Dan & Phil Part 3: Abs and Angst

Just caught up on the LS, and skimmed through the thread to catch up.

No idea where some of you're getting the "moving" vibes from. ngl, just the thought of them moving makes ME exhausted, I'm not the one going through divvying up literally everything they own then getting everything down all those bloody stairs!! Big giggle at whoever suggested they'll move before going on tour. In a week. Whilst rehearsing for said tour full-time. :mrgreen: Though the important question undoubtedly is : Who will get the GHDs in the divorce?! Seriously - about the only thing they don't share is toothbrushes, cologne, and socks.
It's reflected in how much they're doing professionally together too. Going from a shared channel, book, radio show, an international tour to never/rarely working together in the future? Me no thinky so. Yes, there'll be individual projects, but there'll always be tocome home to.

Phil seems to be doing more of the BTS aspects of the tour, so it sorta-kinda makes sense that he'd travel out first... but then again not at all. I smell a cover-up of some kind. (maybe couple of days hidden away together quietly before final/tech rehearsals/playlist) or maybe each sneaking in some family time, with Phil flying to Florida from Manchester, and Dan flying from London. IDK, it just seems odd. Glad to see Dan less panicked about the whole thing though. Not so long ago he was clearly freaking out about how close it was, I guess now rehearsals are going (well, presumably, from what they've both said) they're both a bit calmer/less worried about performing on stage again.

Glad Dan seems happy with the response to the videos. In whatever way we're supposed to take that. Softly softly catchee monkey. I don't think we'll see any more blatant references to private matters on the channels for some time. Anything so far can still be retroactively "it's just a joke, it's not true blah blah blah what we've seen before" put in a box and CRUSH it!! (hee. I'm such B'way ) - baby steps is fine with me.

Yay at taking ownership of the Internet Takeover. Wouldn't be surprised if it was s idea to kill it off, or the BBCs, but either way I'm (admittedly quasi-spitefully) glad it's not going on without them. Not sure about the finale show yet, I'd have preferred an announced final last show, but I'm sure I'll watch it and enjoy it either way. As for what July/into Autumn brings? That depends on where and when TATINOF continues, so we'll have to wait and see. I'd like to see them take over the Monday 9pm on a weekly basis, but who knows yet. They're keeping things close to their chests atm, (or, possibly more likely, they just don't know because they can't see beyond TATINOF with it looming so large right now!) and that's fine.

Pewds... is trolling. Completely and utterly. Who, I'm not sure, but I doubt mind in the slightest, Dan at least seems to find it funny/has taken it with good humour thus far, to me it doesn't seem in any way malicious, and I'm 99.99% sure he'd drop it like a lead weight if seriously asked to stop. Sooooo...

This current discussion has made me think that maybe Dan was so resistant to being associated heavily with Phil a few years ago because he wasn't as confident with their relationship. It'd suck to brand yourself together the way they are now and then realize that you want to part ways which is why I also think any rumour about them moving a part is a bit ridiculous. let them a least milk the joint brand for awhile. Now, they've had a few years together, and maybe he is more sure that their relationship (friendship or otherwise) isn't a temporary thing.

It'd makes sense, especially during that transitionary/moving time, where they'd moved to a new city, sort of gotten a new job, it'd make sense to not tie yourself to much together with another person when you haven't really tested out the working dynamic yet.

I mean, it's also possibly it was that on top of some of the other theories I've heard people mention, like that their relationship was going through a rocky period. Who knows.

I had to cover my mouth to keep from laughing out loud. At first glance, it looks like Phil really doesn't want to do it but Dan dragged him into it, so Phil's just trying to play it off by being silly and Dan's taking it pretty seriously.

This is a "watch me read too much of myself into Dan" moment, but the way he's looking away and playing with his earring is the same exact thing I do when I'm trying to be serious but also feel shy about it. Either way, RIP D&P karaoke.

I do think that this is a factor. Branding themselves together as a duo showed that they had faith in their relationship (whatever that may be) and that they see a future together. That does require commitment and can be pretty scary I'd imagine. Especially when you are in the public eye.

I like TomSka and was happy to see him trying a new (old) format of vlogging his week. I think Dan making a video on DINI for once could be partially inspired by hanging out with Tom (for Rejects?). I think Dan and Tom have a lot (well at least something) in common, and it does Dan good socialising with other youtubers other than Phil who have similar experiences. I like that Dan thanked his audience, it sounded sincere! (ty for typing it out oqua). I think he didn't expect a spon video to be accepted as well as it was. Generally enjoyed Dan's ls for once.
Many people noticed that Dan is in a much better mood in ls after he's put out a new video. Does he have this thing that some people with creative jobs have, when they go through periods of being all frustrated, dissastisfied, impossible to deal with in the process of making something, driving themselves up the wall, and once the thing they've been creating is done, they have short periods of euphoria, than emptiness, and that the process repeats? Good for him for choosing youtube as a job.

Re: Phil flying to US ahead of Dan - he must be doing some BHS preparations, but I doubt he's taking a holiday. There could be some logistics/legal stuff regarding touring the US to deal with in person. Prepare for a week of Dan's sappy tweets in Phil's absense. Also Dan said in a ls that he made that second channel video while Phil was out iirc - for some reason when Phil is out he feels more free to do those videos? I'm sure nobody would mind if he made another one.

So much has happened since I last posted! Some thoughts: on Dan and his video, I was surprised by the denial on tumblr on him being bisexual but I expected it. It's hard for many to accept that the person they're attracted to might not like them back (even though bisexuality does imply both sexes ). I look at Troyes videos and there are tons of comments on his videos praying that he was straight so they can marry him. It's ridiculous and a bit demeaning to try to change someone's sexuality to favor your fantasies. But on a positive note there were a lot of supportive comments so I hope he understands that many are behind him. [/offtopic]

As someone who does not like to speculate about the sexuality of Dan and Phil (and other yt/celebrities) I just want to point out that what you say is true the other way round as well. In many fandoms there are also people who seem to have a hard time dealing with the possibility that the persons might be straight. People who desperately want to prove the ship, are willing to take any "evidence", even demand them to come out (which implies the relationship is a fact) are problematic as well. Such behaviour is no longer just showing support for an idea, it's about fulfilling fantasies as well.

Phil tries, but you can tell the point that he physically cannot sing any higher. It's interesting to compare it to the PotO LS vid

where it's Dan that gives up at the end (even though he was managing up until that point, and judging by the Muse vid, he could have made it through probably up until the very last note.)

I don't want to think about the future because I am really happy with the present. Both boys are happy secure, and successful as an entity. Why do we want to think of the end when we can live happily in the present. Them being happy together in whatever way makes me happy. I like knowing that right now they are together eating breakfast and watching anime. I am secure in the knowledge that they augment each other, and that they play a direct role in each others successes. Where would they have been if they had broken up/moved out in 2012/2013. Would Phil disappear with the other youtubers. Would Dan burn out with anxiety about how good or bad his videos are, or become a gleamer doing pointless tags? I think they are aware that their success occurs in tandem. They balance each other out. Each bad quality in one persons is alleviated with the positive qualities of another. They make up for each others shortcomings.

I think being busy is really good for Dan. Being productive in one area of his life seems to inspire productiveness in other areas, too.

I think that's exactly it, amplified by the fact that there's no outside force demanding Dan make something besides his audience - which is, compared to most youtubers/artists - insanely forgiving of him and not actually that demanding of content. So Dan doesn't even have the motivation most career creatives have of needing to make money, I think he just procrastinates and procrastinates and feels worse and worse for it - which makes that euphoria of having successfully finished something so uplifting for him.

I think the holiday theory could hold some weight, depending on when Phil actually flies out. Playlist starts the 22nd, so the likelihood just depends on how early Phil is flying out. It's hard for me to imagine him needing to be there almost two weeks before Playlist to wrap up details, or even needing a week for tech rehearsals (which is how early Dan will be assuming Dan is flying out midweek, since he had to check his calendar to see if he'd still be in London for a liveshow next week).

I have nothing much to add since you all are incredibly eloquent. But yeah I agree that Dan needs to be busy, he is a lot happier when he is because he has less time to overthink everything, procrastinate and drive himself into creative block and existential crisis.

I've definitely seen both of these types of people among D&P's fans both on tumblr and youtube videos and such. While I think it's fine to have an opinion on what their sexuality is most likely to be, it's important to always leave room for some doubt.

What I don't get is that a lot of people go "oh he came out as gay, now I can't like him anymore because he can't like me", and I just don't understand the logic of that. You're still allowed to fantasize about celebrities even though they don't like people of your gender, just like gay people are allowed to fantasize about straight people! And even if you are of the gender the celebrity in question is attracted to, there are so many other things about you that might make the celebrity not attracted to you, so why even bother caring if they are able to be attracted to you? And do people really think that they have an honest chance at marrying the celebrity they like?

I don't think so, never heard/seen/read anything about it... He was into drama and theatre in school, so maaaaaaaaybe?

Also, regarding Phil leaving early I believe it's to organize things from there, from what we know till now the majority of the tour has been handled by phone, now it's time to put the final touches from an organizative point of view. I can't see them having the energy to squeeze a holiday if not in a spa or somewhere where they can lie as a sack of potatoes, seriously their schedule :wtf:
Dan could stay at home to finish editing or coordinate things from the uk.

Also, I don't see them having the desire to live apart... both seem like the type that copes better in a house where there's already someone. If they are not togheter the only thing I can see is :them moving to a house where their bedrooms are in different parts of the house (sex noises ).

Tbh at this point whether they will move out or come out doesn't bother me that much. It's a waiting game now. Sooner or later they are gonna make a decision to move their life forward, and by then we will know.

Btw if they truly went separate ways, it will be kinda interesting just to see how they devide their possessions. They have equal share to their company and equal ownership to their channel, so no argument over that, but who gets to keep the Magi dvd boxset and who gets the 1 direction poster… here's some real questions.

when i watched dan thanking his viewers all i could think was that it seemed he was hinting at the reception from him being open about male attraction on his main channel. he seemed really sincere.

i can't imagine either of them moving out any time soon. like others have said, they're branding themselves more as 'dan & phil' now and they seem the closest they've been in a while . of course this can carry on with them living separately but i think it will make things less easy for them and i imagine the gaming channel to go downhill if they ever lived separately. also they share so many possessions, how would that work out
of course if they aren't together they'll most likely live separately eventually, but i don't think it will happen yet.
