and you've already covered all bases on dan's ls, but i agree he sounded really sincere when he thanked his audience for the reception of his last video. Idk why but i was expecting some cheeky 'boys are cute'/male attraction reference on this liveshow after such a bold video but that didn't happen, maybe he needed a break after 2 days of the phandom debating his sexuality
re:labels and sexuality (ik this topic is over but i've just though about it), i find it really curious how people are a lot more cautious (or hypocrites) when it comes to bisexuality, no one really debates this much when calling someone gay (until proven otherwise, the same way we're using bisexual here) and straight is the default label anyway, but when it comes to calling someone bisexual suddenly labels are a really big deal and you need a 20 page essay signed by the person you're talking about for it to be a valid interpretation.
it's especially funny in dan's situation since bisexual is literally the only label he ever claimed, ever, yes it was many years ago but still that should count as more than 'implied straightness' (that doesn't actually go against the bisexual interpretation except for very few comments)
but for some reason it seems like some people want to believe that assuming straight until proven otherwise is less problematic?
(haha yay more sexuality! no really it's an interesting topic)
In my opinion, it's definitely important to leave room for some doubt even for people who have expressed attraction only to people of the opposite sex until they have explicitly stated that they are straight (like arguments made against certain homosexual ships being real are sometimes "they can't be together, they're straight" when the character in question has never had their sexuality explicitly stated in the source material). You never know. I think the reason why a lot of people are cautious to brand Dan as bisexual is in some cases bi-erasure (?how is this word used idk), but in other cases (mine I'd like to think but it's difficult to be self-aware) it's more like he has made a couple of statements in the past contradicting his initial identification as bisexual (not that many mind you, but still (and no obviously the "I'm not gay" doesn't say anything other than that he is not gay, which reminds me of another thing that is kind of funny which is that some phan shippers only try to argue that Dan is gay to prove that "phan is real!" when it's so much easier to argue that he is bi... logic )). I like to be on the safe and leave some room for doubt so that whatever happens, I can't be accused of being completely wrong because I'm an obnoxious person who hates being wrong.
But to be honest, this is just such a difficult problem, because (according to statistics at least) the majority of people are straight and a lot of people might not even meet that many people who are open about being of another sexuality, and I think this is especially true for bisexuals because we can go our whole lives ignoring our attraction to the same sex until we find someone of the opposite sex we like to marry and have kids with or whatever you wanna do and no one needs to ever know that we are bisexual. This just makes it so easy (and it's practically ingrained in our society, is this what people call heteronormasomething what is it called?) to assume that everyone is straight until they say otherwise and this is the reason why a lot of people have to "come out". I, too, find myself thinking like that occasionally (although IRL I don't really think about people's sexuality too much unless it's someone I like and want to you know). This is definitely not ideal, but how much can you blame people for this? IDK.
(wow much rant very long so boring... why do i ramble about these kinds of topics so much? i guess as humans most of us are just inherently very interested in sex)
Dan's ls: About Dan's liveshow, did anyone actually see people in the comments referencing his sexuality? And what did they say? My chat kept lagging really bad and I only saw the occasional "you finally acknowledged Haru" comments. From what I saw there wasn't that many comments?
