You can absolutely post about things like that! This thread is open for anything Dan and Phil related, not just recent happenings.SexyTrashCan wrote:Ok so just to clarify this thread will talk about most things Deppy related (with boundaries obviously) not necessary what is happening right now or the topic the thread is on? Do tell indeed. (And not to sound paranoid, but screenshots of the annotations before you post; you never know what might happen lol)

Well one good place to look is on the "My First Date" video.melon lord wrote:do tellSexyTrashCan wrote:Ok so just to clarify this thread will talk about most things Deppy related (with boundaries obviously) not necessary what is happening right now or the topic the thread is on? They seem like odd annotations for Phil to make to be honest. At 1:51, when Phil is describing the date and him being awkward asking "Do you like Crash Bandicoot?" one pops up saying "why am I in this flashback?"
???
Why would Phil make this, or why exactly would Dan make this do you think? Am I just jumping to conclusions?
(You guys should look at some videos yourselves as well, from what I can tell Dan made annotations in blue whereas Phil's where in green)
I watched a certain time in "The Breakup" over and over because an annotation at 0:28, saying "way to put me in shot Phil". I thought that was what Dan would say if he was somehow shown on camera, but he wasn't. This annotation was right at the time when Phil was talking about how breakups are normally horrible and messy.
Just a quick rambling not logged into youtube while binge watching so more I cannot pinpoint but thoughts on the 2 mentioned.
Will get some screenshots now but also check the times yourselves

Oh, I think that's Lion's annotation in The Breakup.
He's half out of shot so "he" is snarking at Phil about it.

Don't be embarrassed! I'm glad you brought it up, I really like Phil's use of annotations in his older videos. It's nice to revisit them. And I'm totally not a fan of Lion, clearly.SexyTrashCan wrote:yup let's nope the fuck out false alarm can I die of embarassment

Ohmigod the thumbnail alone is incredible Thank you, Daniel, and well done. I will paint him a black and grey petal-flame thing I've been doing lately as a reward even though he'll never see it (was going to anyway, tbh).
Um, not to beat a dead horse, but what the fuck?? Dan's parents? If I was in clear distress and suddenly stopped doing something I desperately wanted to do I'm pretty sure someone would have noticed. And they didn't even question that she randomly moved? Jesus Christ these people.
first: great video, did brighten up my boring day, thanks
second: this just confirms again that dan never talked about his feelings or whatever with his parents. sad but also just another reason why he is so relatable

Love the white-and-grey shirt and unstraightened hair.

Loved this DINOF video! I also decided to learn piano because of an episode of Arthur!! (I lasted slightly longer than 8 weeks though!) and I actually spent this weekend teaching myself Mia and Sebastian's theme by ear so it was super #relatable

I really enjoyed that vid. Love it when he does sketches.
Really happy with all the content we've gotten from lately. Hope they keep this up.

Okay that video actually made me laugh out loud in the beginning
DAN IS BACK lol. I can kind of relate because I had an awesome guitar teacher but I had to quit because of band and my band teacher was a massive dick so now all I do is play velvet underground songs by ear *tragic*
Hilarious, amazing, brilliant, etc etc. It felt VERY much like the content I subscribed for three years ago now - exaggerated sketches, scripted-not-scripted kind of feel (you know what I mean, not rambling but not totally fake), funny dressing up and self-deprecating humour. I'd love to see Dan's channel keep taking this direction. It's almost like the last two years didn't happen and we've gone straight from the end of 2014 to the beginning of 2017!
I enjoyed this video more than any other danisnotonfire for a long time. He got a comfortable alliance between repeatability and role-modelling, which was what felt off about the exams video.
The wonkyness of his t-shirt collar bothered me though.

Great to know that he was inspired to learn piano by Arthur! (And also good to remind myself that I am not bonkers for being inspired to learn the violin after watching Barbie in Swan Lake! I was 6 years old
)
As a music nut, I really enjoyed that video! While I never had any nightmare scenarios with violin/music teachers/lecturers (yes, I'm mad, I'm doing it in uni), poor Dan having his dreams crushed like that.... At least he had the willpower to keep playing the piano and not let that mad oul' wan stop him from enjoying music.
Serious kudos to him for learning Fur Elise before taking up lessons (or was that a joke?)
I really hope it wins the Oscars

Me too! On violin of course, but I have gotten right hand on piano. Plus that soundtrack is still stuck (and probably forever stuck) in my head!blackdenim wrote:Loved this DINOF video! It's a good thing to be strange. Normalness leads to sadness - Phil Lester
I don't think Dan's childhood is as traumatic as he makes it out to be for entertainment value, but I do question why he did not go and get a new piano teacher. Watching this videos makes it obvious how he hates confrontation and does not automatically go towards others for help or advice, though I'm not sure this has anything to do with his family, just Dan's particular personality and behaviour that makes him inclined to internalize any problems he has.
Also, I didn't find that the experience was a "traumatic" one, son, I've been through piano exams, they're traumatic. Though I sympathize with the horrible piano teachers, I've had ones with strict and tough personalities and they can be difficult, however not impossible. Again, I feel that because Dan did not discuss his difficulties with anybody, the problem became worse and resonated on his confidence.
Additionally, I'm a bit disappointed he did not persevere in music, albeit the terrible teacher. He would have never made it musically if he easily stopped there, though I admire his ambition and hard work in earning money to pursue his interests initially, I predict that he would have lost interest anyway.
I really enjoyed the acting and sketch set up, his acting was on point for his evil piano teacher and young self (smiley, cute and dimpled Dan will be in gif sets soon, count on that). Also the editing and spacial sense in the set he made in the flat was amazing, the quality feels less amateurish and more professional level that I think Dan has been aspiring to have, so props to him for creating that.

THIS EXACTLY!! you're much more eloquent than I hahahhahaa! The last 3 (wow time flies) years have been so frustrating to me because Dan is SO funny imo and he was the first youtuber I watched that made actual comedy videos. I've always been slightly defensive over his (and Phil's but for a completely different reason, I'll put that in a different post when it's relevent) content because he gets labeled as a pretty boy youtuber who only gets views for his looks which is really shitty. That's why I was so happy when he was on the comedy pannel, but of course they continued to treat him like that even on the pannel. It's insulting to both him and his fanbase. I couldn't defend him for years though because his content was kind of bland and I wasn't into it, so I'm really glad he seems to have his mojo back!azara wrote:Hilarious, amazing, brilliant, etc etc. It felt VERY much like the content I subscribed for three years ago now - exaggerated sketches, scripted-not-scripted kind of feel (you know what I mean, not rambling but not totally fake), funny dressing up and self-deprecating humour. Found the beginning of the video super cringey for some reason (Dan I do not care that Arthur is furry propaganda) but it got really good in the middle section. I loved his reenactment of young Dan- so cute.

I loved that, he's always so funny in his storytelling and the dressing up sketches (little old lady in black skinny jeans ofc
). Good point about how he used the space in the flat, 000dia000. It was super effective. Sweet how the tone changed at the end to an inspirational speech while twinkly-Dan played Fur Elise at last (also sweet of him to put that in after all his refusals really). His wavy hair's setting off his brown eyes somehow too, maybe cos it's framing his face differently.
