As always, I jump in with an OT because I find something interesting and want to know whether it's real :D
So, is it? Does anyone know?

On tumblr, but I couldn't link for some reason with the tumblr option

Edit: after some googling I don't think it's real, but I may have missed something

I don't find it surprising that they got the console for free. When I saw the video, I actually thought it would be a #spon video at first and was surprised when it wasn't.

But I find it interesting that they didn't mention nintendo sent them the console (unless they actually bought it themselves, which is highly unlikely considering PJ got one). Because they did mention getting some stuff for free before, even stuff they didn't want or use in videos (e.g. that Batman lego watch or whatever that thing was). So why don't they mention something they actually wanted and use in their videos? When do they mention that something was sent to them? Why would they mention getting a random watch but not a console? Or is that exactly the reason why they don't mention it, so people won't think they only act like they like it?
Or maybe this is a thing they only mention in ls and in the next ls, they will casually mention it. I don't think they ever mention that they get stuff for free on twitter or on Youtube (apart from actual #spon videos), at least as far as I remember (please correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe they prefer to mention it around dedicated fans who won't get angry like some casual fans that don't seem to understand that YouTube is their job (not saying that all dedicated fans are much better). I don't know, I'm just rambling, sorry

(so much "mention")

This just doesn't sound like a thing they would do, so it's probably fake. But who knows, maybe they are already desperate enough for this

Hmm the original source has no source themself as to how they know this info and seems to have deleted all past tweets sometime in December. :sideeye:
I'm not really sure what to take from this. If this person is a journalist then wouldn't they have linked to their main article, not screenshotted it???

I don't think this is a reliable source, given the guy only has one other tweet and not many followers, plus as others have said the fact that he doesn't link to a source. Also the fact that Dodie Clark is listed as a contestant, this really doesn't sound like the sort of thing she would do, especially as she seems very concerned with reputation and is also focusing on her music career. It just sounds like a very strange bunch of people to me

Yeah, if this was true I'd wonder if Dodie's common sense had overridden her knowledge that she's kinda sensitive for that sort of environment. That Brad guy's always tweeting insults about Dan, I don't know why he's talking to Phil vaguely chummy all of a sudden (well, drama, headline, blah, sounds like mocking how a phandommer would tweet them about it). Maybe shouldn't brush off those kind of shows as sensationalist trash too easily when we watch silly people licking cartridges, but this sounds terrible. I hope Deps and Dodie aren't this desperate, anyway (yay alliteration). Funny Phil just tweeted about a shark tank, that show sounds just like one.

He's genuinely so awful and I don't trust him at all, but he was listed as one of the contestants on the show which makes me think he would know whether it was real or not, no? Maybe he's just shit-stirring by going along with it, but also could his acknowledging it mean that at the very least, the show is a real thing and BradTheLadLong is going to be on it?

I still think it's probably not real (especially given Dodie's involvement, I feel like her pretentious film-maker friends would give her hell about it), but there is a small part of me that thinks it's not impossible. If it is real, I'd much rather dnp host than actually be contestants, so I guess there's that.

Admittedly I don't know who some of those people in that mock article are but with almost 8 million subscribers I think it's entirely possible Joe Sugg may actually have more subscribers than all the other supposed contestants of that "show" combined. And yet rather than a paragraph about him they have tagged him on last and failed to include his last name or channel name. Dan and Phil the supposed hosts also only get a brief mention and no write up.

That's definitely completely fake. Even if we ignore that they aren't even focusing on the biggest names they have attached to the supposed project like a normal press release would focus on there is still something off about the writing style, it doesn't read like it was written by a professional.

(a small trashy part of me wants them to be contestants tbh) (i mean,,, i'd actually love for them to be thrown into that kinda environment just to see how they'd react) BUT i'm 100% sure this is fake. They've said that they want to focus on YT and ""life things"" this year, and everything else surrounding this situation is just too fishy and vague to be real. Just another silly rumour

In regards to them not being completely upfront about being sent the Nintendo Switch, I thought it was kinda obvious? YTers always get sent this stuff lol

I'd definitely consider Dan not wanting to lick the same game as Phil a no homo moment because he didn't just say it was gross he said he didn't want herpes *intense side-eye* also I hate to say it but I'd watch the shit out of phan on big brother lmao

Soooo late to the party with this but meh. They're posting so much that relatively new things feel old so fast, what a world.

Dan and Misc Watch 2017
Wholesome Howell Says Hi (Week 8)

Prompted Dan Mention
10:10 (chat) I thought Dan was going to pop in
“Yeah, his younow broke on Tuesday just before he did it, so he might pop his head in, I don’t know, let’s wait and see”

33:55 (chat) Has Dan turned into a nun?
(chat) He brainwashed me
(chat) I saw Dan’s leg, I wasn’t ready

"What did you think was underneath there, just a floating abyss of wholesomeness?"
(chat) I wanted to see Sister Daniel again
"I don’t think Sister Daniel’s coming back"
34:20 (chat) I feel lonely now
(laughing) “Oh, thank you. Dan’s gone, so you’re now filled with loneliness”

34:40 (chat) Dan looked like a girl on the front of a magazine
“A space magazine”

36:40 “Hi to the ‘wholesome phans’. Oh, sorry I didn’t say hi while Dan was here as Wholesome Howell."
Unprompted Dan Mention
8:50 (about Best Picture mistake) “Dan freaked out. I think he woke up all the neighbours by screaming at the TV.”

48:15 “I’m gonna film a new [AP] video this weekend, so look forward to that whenever I get around to editing it. Dan’s gonna film one as well. We’ve got new gaming videos out and.. life is good"
Neutral Dan/Phil Mention
4:10 “Anyway, you might have seen on Dan’s twitter that he creepshotted me while I was sleeping, which I think I deserved; we’re having a little bit of a creepshot war at the moment"

12:10 “Dan and I have a gaming channel: DanAndPhilGAMES"

12:45 “I’ve got a Dan and Phil calendar”

23:25 A WILD DAN APPEARS

24:05 Phil: We just did a ‘Keep or Charity’ game.
Dan: How’d it go? All your ugly clothes, where are they going?
Phil: They told me to give away my colour-changing green tshirt
Dan: Ohh, the one that you sweat in and then it just shows all your sweat patches- yeah, that’s gross.

24:20 Phil: You do look like E.T. You actually watched E.T. with me the other day.
[Dan again explains he missed all the 80s classic movies blah blah blah]
Phil: And I only found this out recently and I was like, ‘Dan, what is going on, you haven’t lived until you’ve watched E.T.'

25:45 Phil: You look like such a funny creature. It’s like Galactic Rock Pokemon Dan has been born
Dan: There is a galactic rock Pokemon in the new one, it’s called, like, Minior. Remember?
Phil: Minior.
Dan: Yeah. Or is it Meteor? I can’t remember. But yeah. It’s pretty cute.
Phil: Yeah.

26:15 Dan: When’s the next AmazingPhil video, Phil?
[Phil had to wait for something to arrive first before filming. It’s arrived now]
Dan: Are you making the video you told me you were gonna make?
Phil: Yes, I think so, but it might not work, so we’ll see.
Dan: Strap yourselves in lads, this one is a humdinger.
Phil: You’re in for a little storytime with Phil.
Dan: Oh my god, I was 10/10 shook when I was hearing this.
-I'm scared. Did an Uber driver try to kill him

26:50 Phil: Is it gonna be a Dan and Phil filming weekend, where we both make videos?
Dan: A ‘philming’ weekend. That would just be Phil actually, that makes no sense.

27:56 Dan: Boom. Phil’s liveshow or Internet Support Group, what is this?

29:17 Dan: How are we both going to film videos this weekend? Fight me.
Phil: I’ll do Saturday, you do Sunday.
[…]
Dan: That’s what happens when you share a camera.

29:50 (about chocolate)
Dan: Just pour it all over my body and I’ll just roll around on the floor.
Phil: Yeah. Uh— no. (laughs) I wasn’t even listening to you.
-k this was funny but the second part got ignored and it’s kind of just as funny to me

30:08 (still reading the chocolate thing what is that)
Phil: ‘Epic Slabs’
Dan: Same. I’m an epic slab.
Phil: I’ll have an epic slab. Look at that.
-heh. I'm 12.

Dan: That’s what I see when I look in the mirror. An epic slab: a perfect rectangle filled with sugar.
Phil: Oh my god look at that, 160 pounds [as in money, I first took it as the weight of the chocolate, which would be yikes]
Dan: Phil. Okay. (takes book and throws it on floor) That— no. This is what happens: Phil goes, "It’s only 160 pounds, but I reckon we could eat it in three days"
Phil: Wouldn’t happen.
Dan: Phil!
-yet people drag Dan for his alleged superfluous spending...

30:35 Dan: I feel so weird, I had so much sugar yesterday.
Phil: Yeah. Oh, we went to afternoon tea.
(Phil says ‘I haven’t spoken about-’ at the same time Dan says ‘have you spoken about that’)
30:50 Dan: Dear god, you had too much sweet? Who are you? You’re not Phil Lester.
Phil: Were you not defeated by the cakes?
Dan: Yeah, I was. It was so bad.

32:15 Phil: something about harvesting lemons; I had to harvest them but didn’t know the correct way to harvest them.
Image
-some more 'Phil/pregnancy' material to continue his 2017 theme... pregnant with secret creative project ideas maybe...

32:35 Phil: See, Chloe wants to harvest lemons with me, Dan. You just don’t understand.
Dan: Wow, just go and write the Lemon Fic, Chloe. Self-Insert Lemon Fic.
Phil: I don’t want to read the Lemon Fic.
Dan: Yeah, you do.
Phil: Speaking of—
Dan: Stick the acid in there.
Phil: Stop it! (laughs)
Dan: What? Your mouth. Lemonade. It’s just about making lemonade, what’s wrong with you.

33:12 Phil: Are you heading off into the wilderness, Dan?

33:30 Dan: Stay hydrated. I came to say hi. I’ll stop hijacking Phil’s stream, ‘cause this is just supposed to be a Phil thing, so I’ll let him get back to showing you the wonders of his clothing.

Miscellaneous
4:30 “I mean, I’m calling it a party, it was really just a group of friends watching the Oscars and commentating over it, which is one of my favourite things to do- just chatting over stuff. That’s why I love the gaming channel so much, it’s just an excuse to commentate on stuff that’s usually weird."

6:00 “Let’s pretend nothing’s happened, okay? I haven’t said anything interesting. Which is subjectively true.”

9:50 “The drills started outside the next morning [after the Oscars]. So I went to bed at 6 and the drills outside my bedroom started at 8”
...

11:00 “I think I’d go to a beach house and play Zelda if it was my spring break. Not that I have a beach house to go to.”
...

11:35 “Are we still enjoying the Horse Prince? I’m loving the Horse Prince"
12:00 “I think if you just focus on the story- I mean it’s not the best gameplay, I’ll be honest, [but he’s invested in what happens next etc]"
“It’s weird... and kind of great at the same time"
-I'll need to see another episode to break my tie on what I think they actually think of the 'game'...

13:15 (about ordering in pancakes for Pancake Day) "So we got everything. We got maple syrup, maple bacon, Nutella”…
-Well there (probably) goes my ‘Dan’s being a secret veg*n’ theory. Said without judgement, just noting it.

15:35 “I’ve been going through my clothes today 'cause I wanna give some more stuff away"
16:32 “I am trying to clear my wardrobe"

23:05 PROMPTED PJ MENTION
(chat) What are you wearing now?
“It’s an Oscar’s Hotel tshirt, which was a series PJ made"
-I mean he could have said PJ and Chris, but ok. That's fine. Sure.

38:35 “I’m excited for a horror movie called Get Out by Jordan Peele because it’s getting incredible reviews”

44:20 “I think it adds character; I don’t think everyone needs perfectly straight teeth for any reason. I’m happy with them, so I don’t think I’d get braces. They’re fine."

45:20 "[The thing he needed before he could film his AP vid] was just a prop that I might get someone I’m re-enacting to wear.”
-someone eh, wonder who that might be.............
................
-I'm not necessarily complaining, especially if it's just a practical cameo, but I wouldn't mind more solo Phil please and thank you. I just realized I'm dumb and this probably means a prop for himself to wear while acting as someone else in his story. sigh @ me.

Phinal Tally: said ‘Dan’ 19 times

Dan and Phil Watch 2017 Week 8:
Dan mentioning Phil: N/A (..but also 10/10.5 minutes = 0.95 per min.)
Phil mentioning Dan: 19/49.5 minutes = 0.38 per min.

secretagentphan wrote:I'd definitely consider Dan not wanting to lick the same game as Phil a no homo moment because he didn't just say it was gross he said he didn't want herpes *intense side-eye*

I disagree with this so hard. Nobody wants to lick a piece of poison-flavoured plastic with somebody else's cold wet spit slathered on it, no matter who the spit came from. Herpes was just an easy joke. It's not a no homo moment, nothing they do these days is no homo which would be a clearly stated aversion (distaste) to something perceived as ~gay~. Any sexuality can agree to Just Say No to cold plastic spit (unless that's your kink in which case uh... enjoy... that..).

If anybody cares to, could you rewatch the part where they bring up the afternoon tea, think things about it and then share those things, because to me it felt like they both prepared to discuss it. As in they made a joint conscious choice to casually discuss their afternoon tea together. They planned on Dan 'popping in' and then planned on bringing up Phil's tweet (that he tweeted without context) and gave it context that involved just the two of them. And ok listen, I know roommates go out to eat together, and know things about each others clothes, and talk about buying expensive chocolate/food to be shared. I know. But I just feel them palpably doing. something. y'know? Like just constantly widening the boundaries they've set, giving themselves more and more room. Or did it just come off as actually casual and I'm watching too hard. Are we the frog being slowly boiled (but like.. minus the gruesome ending)?

I wouldn't say that Dan not licking the same cartridge as Phil is a "no homo" moment. I think that he's just exaggerating about the herpes part, but I do think that he really doesn't want to lick the cartridge that Phil licked because... it's a freaking cartridge with spit on it. There was this liveshow where they drank out of the same bottle, but it's a freaking bottle, okay? Bottles don't taste bitter, and when a cartridge is bitter and already has spit on it... Besides, he doesn't need to lick the cartridge because he can just kiss Phil anyway.

Yeah, I get the feeling he (and maybe the journalist who posted the thing) is just trying to get a reaction from fans and everyone. Phil hasn't replied yet, I doubt he will. The few phandom replies are all calling him out on that too.

Lol that the arm vs leg debate is still going on. The first bit is his arm pushing off the sofa to get up then you see his leg but he has his grey tracksuit bottoms on. It's not a bare leg, you people are thirsty af

Also, just something I noticed, in many of deppys videos people are really concerned (maybe not the right word there) about them 'no-homoing' stuff. I just wondered why people are so bothered about it? Is there any other people out there like me, who only watch for the gameplay and their personalities rather than phan moments, or am I definitely on my own here? Like, I instantly knew when watching the Switch video that people would be so worried about the not wanting to lick the same cartridge that it might take away from them how funny the video was. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm genuinely just curious about it.

The big brother style show that has been talked about, as much as they would never do it, I would love to see deps actually take part rather than just present it!

I agree with this and I don't think you are watching to hard. For people who seem to have been very careful and aware of what they are saying and the effect it will have, all this can't be accidents.

I would also like to add the moment in the cartridge licking video when Dan asks "why do we own this" (approx. 1:30), talking about the apron that he gave the impression of having no previous knowledge of. He could have phrased that in so many other ways.

I think I've got a bit conditioned to notice it, though I don't think I go looking for it. I didn't notice anything when I first watched them and thought people in the comments squeeing over a look or a touch were ridiculous, but seeing so much of that everywhere, high-pitched or low-key, it seeped in. I watch them for the bants, wit and humour, and how much I love them, though, the potential meaning in a cute moment isn't a motivator.

Your timestamps are always amazing, thank you for posting them weekly

I'm not sure whether they both prepared to discuss it, but it wouldn't surprise me if they'd at least brainstormed some ideas of what to talk about before going live. I think the way they talked about the afternoon tea was really interesting actually, as they didn't go to any effort to imply they were there with other people. While I don't think that confirms they were alone (and I wouldn't be surprised if there were actually other people there with them), it does mean they weren't worried about implying that it was just the two of them, and I do think that's significant.

They had to have known people would speculate about them being on a date, and if they'd wanted to avoid that they could have said they were with management or other friends or something, but instead they implied it was just the two of them. I think you're right that it does suggest loosened boundaries, and it supports the idea that they're caring less and less about what other people think.

There was definitely a time where they would have made sure people knew it wasn't just the two of them, such as that one liveshow (in like 2013/2014 maybe?) where Dan was telling the story of when he was on holiday in India and a spider fell on him while he was talking on the phone, only for Phil to later confirm he was the person on the other end of the phone and Dan became all flustered and tried to play it off as work-related. There was also that time on the radio when they were talking about seeing ball lightning at Phil's family house, and Dan was like "Er what were we doing again? Something for youtube" as if to ward off implications of them being together simply for the fun of it. They've definitely come a long way in that regard.

Like, I instantly knew when watching the Switch video that people would be so worried about the not wanting to lick the same cartridge that it might take away from them how funny the video was. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm genuinely just curious about it.
I watch for both them and the gameplay (or personalities in their non-gaming content), but here's the thing: there's only so much to say about a video framed around the gameplay. "That was funny and I liked it./The game was boring but this moment was funny./This game sucks." All of those are conversations that do happen. And then it ends until the next video. And especially when it comes to the games they choose to play, there's really not a lot of material there. I don't know if the same thing entirely goes for personalities as that probably does get discussed more, but personalities stay pretty consistent. The 'phan' aspect is something ongoing (in the sense that it's not definitive, we don't know anything about it in the same way we do about their personalities or how they played a game), so it attracts more discussion/focus. I would love more conversation outside just the phan lens, but at the same time, there's only so much to say? Like if you liked a video: you liked it, the end. Or the opposite. It would be boring for everyone to just pause until the next one, so the ongoing background conversation of their off-camera existence continues in the meantime. Am I over-explaining? I'll stop lol, hope that made sense though.

tl;dr - I watch other gamers, I watch actual playthroughs. I'm not on a forum for any of them discussing them or the games they've played. Because I liked it or I didn't, or it was funny or it wasn't, and then I moved onto something else.

And the no homo thing, I just find the term offensive when used on things that it doesn't apply to because it just reads as an accusation of homophobia.

There was also that time on the radio when they were talking about seeing ball lightning at Phil's family house, and Dan was like "Er what were we doing again? Something for youtube" as if to ward off implications of them being together simply for the fun of it. They've definitely come a long way in that regard.
Yes! That whole thing of them either trying to avoid mentioning doing things when it was just the two of them, or overexplaining when 'found out', was on my mind, but they'd already kind of chilled out with that, as in not seeming bothered/not overexplaining things. This felt different because rather than passively letting people assume things (? or whatever), they actively put that info out there when it didn't need to be. And no 'it was with our publishers' or anything to 'explain'. At least, it better not have been. with publishers I mean. 2 books is plenty.

!!! Right?? I like thinking of 2017 as de-branding. Even if there's no end point (like a ~Final Reveal~ lol, that's just not their style), they're still making an effort to be different/less guarded with what they say and how they say it, even outside of the context of each other. It's just nice watching people loosening up. And fascinating to watch it consciously be a thing they're trying to do.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

Is the cartridge licking thing really something people are worrying about? This is the only area of the phandom I keep up with so if people aren't freaking out on here about it I don't see it. I know we've had at least one poster on here say they considered it no-homo but is that the stance of a lot of people rather than the opinion of the odd few?
I'm honestly surprised that that would genuinely concern enough people for it to be a thing. To me Dan not wanting to lick the same piece of plastic as Phil was such a normal thing for anyone to say I didn't even register it as being anything significant when watching.

As for whether I'm here for gameplay/personality/phan moments I'd say I'm here for a mixture of all three but I feel compelled to point out I wouldn't be into phan moments if I wasn't into their personalities also.
Youtube is full of cute boys being extra with their attractive friends so in that respect D&P are not unique however I don't personally watch any other flirty male duo on YT because the moments alone are not interesting unless I'm invested (or at least interested) in the youtubers outside of that.
I'd bet a lot of people are the same, phan moments might be a big draw for some but I don't think that alone is enough to keep anyone invested in D&P if they don't like who they are outside of that.

Are they really...?
While it's almost definitely fake, I was surprised at myself for low-key actually wanting to see something like that. Just to see how they'd interact with other people, especially a 'villain', in such a close-knit environment. But no way. The more I think about it the more I dislike the idea and how the whole thing could be twisted to throw someone under the bus. Also the idea of them watching the others safely from a distance and commentating while the others are thrown into the metaphorical shark tank, or them being thrown in the shark tank themselves, doesn't sit too comfortably with me.

The big brother style show that has been talked about, as much as they would never do it, I would love to see deps actually take part rather than just present it!
Wow, I didn't know there were people who were really so worried it'd ruin their enjoyment of the whole video. I mean that moment in particular, I didn't take as a no-homo, because ew other people's spit, but I could understand if it was a pretty blatant no-homo moment it might feel like a diss to shippers. And I feel the atmosphere changes whenever one of them makes a no-homo comment and suddenly one or both of them (or other people in the room) look/sound a bit uncomfortable, so it just makes the moment stick out even more. Some radio show moments come to mind.

I don't know why I watch them or if it's possible for them to do something that would make me want to stop watching. I just like them so much and that's probably all I'm here for.
