I thoroughly enjoyed that ls!! Usually they don't completely hold my attention but this one was just so good. Also they both looked so beautiful i can't even... Dan's hair tho
the bit about the fact that dan is now seeing phil's hairdresser and the fact that he comes to their house and the whole phil goes first and then dan so phil can have things to talk about... that just made me so fricking happy.
edit: ALSO the fact that they are going to play club penguin!!! i feel like it might be a mixed bag in its reception, but CP was a really big part of my childhood so when they mentioned it I teared up a bit. I'm really sad that they closed the site and the fact that deppy played it right before it was gone I am so looking forward to that video!!

That was a nice live show, and I think that they were both in a good mood which made it nice to watch.
The clean me bit was great, made me
Also I'm here for an AP vid of Phil curling his fringe.

i felt like such a third wheel in this liveshow the beginning when phil pulled dan back in and then they were sitting so close together and they just had such good chemistry aaaa im such but this was a cute liveshow. i don't usually watch phil's liveshows but it was a joint one and i was missin out on some good dan bc he didnt have his tuesday. good and cute liveshow though
theyre such cute lil nerds
oh! also, phil posted on my younow profile sayin i was one of the top fans..and give me a dying tulip
im pretty sure it was an automatic message, but it was still nice to get anyways

That was a really great liveshow. Althought they were all over the place and didn't talk about a lot (hair dresser, a bit about Phils video and then tv shows and anime? rest was weird but honestly quite hilarious tangents) I was looking forward to more praise and in depth discussion of Phil's rpg dammit. And give me some more hints about wth you are working on guys
And I love Phil. Especially sassy Phil. When he talked about spons....
Such a difference from his last video. Did anybody feel like they kinda dragged the video with the "content" mentions, especially Dan? I don't know exactly how he phrased it but it reminded me of the criticism we had going here earlier...

Adorable liveshow.
No dreaded/anticipated announcements - just them talking shit and being cute.
They evaded pinning down travel dates, which makes me think they're definitely leaving next week and the only reason for the liveshow was because they knew they wouldn't be doing another one for a few more weeks.
But I'm sort of happy at that, because if what they've been busy doing is just prefilming content then that means they can try and keep up their regular gaming channel schedule even while hopping between flights and countries.

All the talk about their career really stood out to me: mentioning the radio show, the brit awards, "please book us", "what not to do with your career". Wondering if they really have something secret in the works, or they are just worried about it.

Fuck, this ls was hilarious! I never thought third-wheeling could be entertaining. My Internet broke twice (as usual), but at least I could continue where I stopped. Just wasn't exactly live anymore, but whatever. Some thoughts:
pulvis et umbra sumus
Not sure about this specific moment as I need to rewatch the ls because I missed some parts of it but I definitely feel that Dan was generally in a 'let's drag Phil a bit' mood, both with his words and his facial expressions while reacting to what Phil was saying. However I also got the impression that it was all done in a very affectionate and humorous manner rather than a malicious onemio wrote:Such a difference from his last video. I think so too. It actually reminded me a bit of Rose and Rosie at times. He also kept smiling in a "you're so stupid, why do I love you so much"-way whenever Phil did/said something weird. And I feel like he didn't want to praise Phil too much, as he did that a lot recently. It seems like he was very aware of that and therefore went for dragging him. I don't know, it was definitely all in a playful way. Even though Dan does annoy me sometimes with some of his comments and reactions.hunnyftw wrote:Not sure about this specific moment as I need to rewatch the ls because I missed some parts of it but I definitely feel that Dan was generally in a 'let's drag Phil a bit' mood, both with his words and his facial expressions while reacting to what Phil was saying. I got the impression Dan's point was more like 'Phil took a video that could have been boring but it's still good bc look how many people like it."hunnyftw wrote:Not sure about this specific moment as I need to rewatch the ls because I missed some parts of it but I definitely feel that Dan was generally in a 'let's drag Phil a bit' mood, both with his words and his facial expressions while reacting to what Phil was saying. (Which is definitely his own Philboy goggles in action, because it was a boring video.)
Definitely strong with the affectionate dragging, though. Both of them - it seems like a pretty intrinsic part of their natural dynamic.
i'm literally coming back from several months of silence just to laugh about this oh my god i was literally laughing so hard because they were so obvious and like dan wouldn't move until phil turned the camera because they were both just sitting there in their pants. why would they even go live to 20k people in their pants?! what even is 2017scientia wrote:100% think that both of them were just in their pants or shorts or something, the awkward delays before each of them stood up had me

I only got to see the end of it, so I didn't see much, but I don't doubt it. That is absolutely hilarious
Aww yes all the dragging was very affectionate and the couple vibes were so strong. I mean I can't really imagine watching this and be like " aye two bros being besties"
... but I actually came back to say THESE YACHTS. KILL THEM. WITH FIRE IF NEEDED. I almost had a heart attack the first time this happened and you could see how they both got kinda annoyed by it. What's the point of making such a feature that interrupts the live streamers all the time??

Hi everyone! I just made an idb account over the weekend, but I've been lurking on the board since December. I was a dnp fan in 2012/2013 but lost interest until mid-2016, when I saw a copy of tabinof at a bookstore and realized a lot has happened. Anyways, I am greatly interested in the character growth and changes in presentation that have been happening over the last couple months, and take great solace in dan and phil as a study in ambiguity in order to distract myself from the stressors of my real life. I didn't really have any fandoms that I was apart of between 2013 and 2016, and I noticed it had an affect on my mental health, so I'm happy to have a fandom again to help me get through the end of college. Anyways, hi!
In terms of this liveshow, I had high hopes for it being one that was entertaining and stress-relieving for me, and in those regards it came through. I enjoyed the hilarious messiness of the beginning, just because to me it showed dnp being in a sort of caffeinated yet happy state that is encouraging to see. I've seen some conversation about people feeling like the liveshow felt off in terms of Dan's humor, both in general and towards Phil. I've personally felt that Dan's humor took a turn towards more negative and self-depreciating jokes than normal in January, and therefore his humor often leaves me feeling negatively more than it used to. (I am in that camp of people who often find Dan's liveshows stressful for this reason.) But I do think that when he is around Phil the humor is mediated by banter enough that I find it more tolerable. In terms of his humor towards Phil, I did find his normal #quality content jokes towards the concept of curling Phil's fringe and the DNA video very annoying. In fact, I believe he said something about the DNA video being a subject that Phil's viewers wouldn't be interested in because they aren't interested by anything that's not stupid? Am I the only one that interpreted that comment this way? Because that's the kind of comment I find most annoying, and that definitely left me feeling sour. But I didn't find anything off about his humor towards Phil, because I agree that fond dragging of each other seems to be a natural part of their banter. But I was also in a fairly positive mood when I started watching the liveshow, and so I didn't feel sensitive to seeing them treating each other in this way. I can imagine that if I was already in a crappy mood, it could feel tiring to do the work to remind myself that this is how two people who spend almost every minute of the day with each other do banter.
Anyways, sorry for this long first post. But I'm happy I worked up the courage to start posting here (slash was convinced by following alittledizzy on Tumblr), as I very much enjoy these in-depth conversations about deppy.

I agree. I feel like this must be done on purpose; Dan at one point had a lengthy bit of dialogue about accepting when you feel sad and expressing it in whatever terms work best for you. I'm probably paraphrasing it awfully but I don't have time to look up the quote right now.obliviongrace wrote:I've seen some conversation about people feeling like the liveshow felt off in terms of Dan's humor, both in general and towards Phil. Basically - I kind of wonder if not forcing himself to be upbeat is actually part of Dan coping with whatever it is Dan has to cope with, and if being extra morbid/negative just gives him some sense of security.
I definitely agree that their humor is just the back and forth between two people who are exceedingly comfortable together. nihilist-toothpaste had an amazing post that I assume you're referencing, and I am gonna copy/paste my addition from tumblr since I am far too lazy to try and word the same points a different way. 1) I think Dan is extremely wary of going overboard being seen as too complimentary or too affectionate with Phil on camera. He’s too self-aware and too afraid of liveshows where he can’t take things back, and it results in a sometimes drastic mix of extreme warmth and extremely cutting remarks.
2) Phil is self-aware too but in the opposite direction, I think an unfiltered Phil would be a) more physically responsive and b) more sarcastic/cutting/insulting but Phil strives not to set the example of insulting language on camera, even when doing so means it ends up just sort of looking like Dan is being mean to him and Phil isn’t responding back.
3) This liveshow might have had more of that because it really had no purpose. When Dan’s only dropping in for ten minutes they can find a focus easily. When it’s a joint show because of an announcement or there is one focal topic (like tour stories, last year) or they have a supply of anecdotes at the ready (last December it was LA stories) they fall into a pattern that centers around telling the same story and not purely reacting to each other’s spur of the moment commentaries.
4) I think Dan’s reading more from the chat isn’t because he felt off but because they don’t have real life stories they can share. Whether it’s a secret project that’s off the table for discussion right now or they’re just prefilming content they’ve made it quite clear they’ve been busy with work but aren’t inclined to say what the work is, which I don’t believe leaves much else besides them talking about what tv shows they’ve been watching (which they did) and the random show and tell (which they did).

Well that liveshow was kind of underwhelming, but still enjoyable to watch. I was mildly put off by Dan, as I did get the vibe that he was so self-aware to the point that it hindered his ability to just relax and be normal. He seemed so set on always having a snappy, negative remark at whatever Phil or the chat were saying, and it kind of made me want to shake him and just be like "shhhh please just talk normally, there's no need for the salt". The bit when they were talking about making a video curling Phil's hair stuck out to me as particularly off-putting.
But then again, some of you have made some really great points - it's obviously just a part of their natural dynamic, Dan himself has said he's joking, it's all in good humour etc. nephilimcat, you're so right, those interactions are a lot like Rose and Rosie! Thank you for making that comparison, it's something I've never thought of before but it made me reconsider their snappy, sometimes one-sided banter in a more positive light.
Things I found enjoyable/hilarious:
- Phil accidentally sending the flowers for his mum to his own address (hilarious and something I would probably do tbh)
- The fact that their lives are so intertwined it makes conversations with their hairdresser difficult and repetitive (had a lil heart-attack when Dan said they were talking about "Melbourne", also I swear we already knew they both get their hair cut by Fabrice at home? Did I dream that?)
- Dan's reaction to someone asking if he'd be sad about Phil (what a stupid and insensitive question, what are people expecting him to say ffs??)
- The fact they've preplanned all the films they want to watch on the plane to Australia
- The fact that they definitely weren't wearing pants (their absolute refusal to let the camera see below the waist was not subtle at all, also what did Dan have over his lap? Was it Phil's bird jumper?)
- The fact that they played Club Penguin on the day it closed (I'm genuinely excited for that video, I loved CP when I was like 10 :')
I'm so curious about why they've been so busy. I feel like if it was just pre-filming before they go away they'd just tell us so, but they're keeping pretty quiet about the specifics. Also the fact that they said there's a dinof and an AP in the works at the moment, when Phil just uploaded yesterday. What are they up to ...
Also obliviongrace welcome!!! I also started watching dnp in 2012/2013 before leaving and coming back in 2016, it's amazing how much they've changed and grown in that time!
Edit: I forgot to say I loved the mention of their Christmas Adventure, and them fondly and somewhat jokingly describing it as underrated

Yes, alittledizzy, I was referencing Leela's post, along with some others that I saw floating around on other blogs, although hers is definitely the most direct response. (Reading her posts is also largely what got me back into enjoying analysis of them back in December).
That's a very interesting point you make that perhaps this is Dan's way of accepting his feelings, and it leaves him feeling better than if he forced himself to act happy. I had forgotten about that speech in the liveshow, but the behavior I've seen in him is definitely similar to what he described. Although, if this is what is working well for him right now, that's a bit sad in that I find that kind of behavior most stressful. Perhaps I'll just have to avoid his liveshows whenever I'm already feeling stressed from a day.
