Personally I think it's a much more natural reaction/behavior, which makes it a bit weird to say that how someone reacts to their friend being a shit to them is something that needs to be an evolving reaction in order to keep other people entertained.
I only wish they went totally "natural" and Phil just gave into the damn kiss.

Like, how does Phil usually react to that kind of thing? he flinched back a bit, so he obviously found it slightly intimidating, but he also found it funny? And, it was a pretty playful display of dominance, which can totally be flirtatious, so, does this kind of thing lead to sexual tension in other circumstances? I just have so many questions...
Your post was super timely, because I was going to go into this based on my response above.
I've always perceived Phil as a tactile flirt. Touching somebody, tapping on them, hugging them, biting them... these are all ways he flirts and my assumption has always been that any level of physical response is something he doesn't want to show on camera, because his physical response (especially if dominant and especially in response to Dan) is always gonna be flirtatious/sexual.
I just immediately assumed that if this situation had been happening without a camera on, Phil'd have kissed him and followed that with an evil grin.
But honestly, at this point, I might be writing fan fiction. Because the guy is mischievous and I refuse to believe that, in private, he'd ever flinch at that.
What I find fascinating is to watch how far he's willing to let himself go in that moment. It's like watching him break through a mental barrier when he's staring at Dan and not letting his head move back any. I saw it as a total win.
