I enjoyed this whole rant and I agree for the most part. I don't play piano, but I am a trained singer so I know a bit about this stuff. I would argue, however, that Dan does NOT have perfect pitch. That's a misnomer. I think what you mean to say is that Dan has a good ear - he can hear songs and figure them out easily because he understands chord progressions and basic movements in music because he can hear them, not because he learned them. I was also born with a good ear. I can pick out accidental notes that don't belong or predict how a piece will go just because I hear it and feel it, but I don't have perfect pitch.

If he had perfect pitch, you'd be able to play notes and he could tell you which note they are without looking, or if you said "Sing a C3" he'd be able to perfectly do that. I don't believe that he can. There are not very many who do have perfect pitch.

I don't mean to attack lol, it's just that people often tell me that I have perfect pitch because I have a good singing voice and I can hear and correct when my voice goes a little off very easily, and I usually have to explain to them why they're wrong. I just don't want people here to be thinking that Dan's some kind of whiz kid who can hear a complicated chord once and name all the notes in it.

I agree and this is what I thought too I only said he has perfect pitch bc that is what he claimed in a live show. I didn't really believe him tho lol but I just added that bc he said it himself. I have the same thing! I can distinguish wrong notes and stuff but I don't have have perfect pitch- I don't think think Dan knows what perfect pitch is if he claims he has it then lol but I wasn't sure- thatnks for confirming this!

First of all YAY for other (former or current) music degree students on IDB! I'm finishing my first year of a BMus degree (playing the violin) and it honestly has been one of the best years I've had in education in my life. Plus I feel I can play the violin slightly better I hope! (It never sounds good if you make a mistake or are out of practice, trust me)

Back to Dan and his piano : I'd agree that he doesn't have perfect pitch. I believe what he has is 'relative pitch' which is what you have described the bits that I've bolded. i have relative pitch. I can sing a note if you ask me to, i can (eventually) figure out the pitch of a note when you hear it, I'm able to sight sing reasonably well (thank god because that's been in all my violin exams) and I can tell what chord progressions are by ear. He can learn certain pieces by ear (that maybe don't have many complicated chord progressions and have simple backing chords (the famous four-chord progression). Plus he mentioned in the ls that he watches Synthesia videos on Youtube (how he is learning YOI) that show you what keys to press at one time on the piano.

As regards to him saying the term 'perfect pitch', I always thought that I had perfect pitch (as told by my violin teacher). It was only when I got older and met more music students (and was asked to sing some notes) when i realised that I was a bit hesitant about singing the note first time (I was second guessing myself). Sometimes I'd be right, sometimes I'd be wrong. That's why I perfer to say that I have relative pitch (I have it but I'm still not as good as perfect!)

Fair play to Dan playing the piano without sheet music though! YOI was the highlight of the ls for me!

Last time he brought the subject up, Dan clearly didn't know what perfect pitch is. He can play things by ear. That, as others have already said, is not the same.

I wish they would at least indicate to us that they won't be uploading anything today. I get my hopes up on Tuesdays and Thursdays and today has been radio silence from the both of them...

Also,AmazingOCD, I don't think that Dan even has relative pitch. If he did, I think he'd be a better singer, and I don't believe that he can read music, let alone sight read. I really just think he has a good ear for music brought on by listening a lot and being naturally musically inclined, but I honestly think he has little-to-no technical knowledge. I think he really should take lessons again - he's got the raw talent. Actual knowledge about music would make him more confident, a better player, and he'd probably be more inclined to play/pratice.
He knows he's not technically that good, so when all the tweens in this fandom are like "wow ur so talented!!!!", that must make him so uncomfortable. I know I would hate that.

I feel like I'm well and truly stuck in the routine of thinking about when they said something along the lines of "we'll post videos tuesdays and thursdays when we're away" as a sort of replacement for their liveshows, and now I'm in bed waiting for a tweet or something. I guess if you never have expectations you can't be disappointed.

My guess is that if they're flying they didn't want to tweet about leaving in case fans met them at the airport - I mean, after all this time I think they'd have guessed that if they want to actively prevent stalking, it's best to tweet about the events after they've occurred and left the place (I'm not saying they should have to be responsible for people not stalking them, but they're not going to bluntly say "stop stalking us" without disgusing it as a joke, so the best way to prevent it is by tweeting later)

Yeah, they may be uploading to the time zone their in. When do they usually upload in their England time zone? I'm only an hour off Orlando time, so I could see when they'd be uploading if we're right.

if they're planning to upload around their regular time in the US i think there's still some hope for a video today. not getting my hopes up but i've noticed they upload around 3:30/4:30 because it usually overlaps with my classes that i have at those times.

like i said, i don't want to get my hopes up but i don't really see a reason for them not to upload. if they have the video(s) already filmed and edited they could have even scheduled it to go live at a specific time if they knew they'd be flying at the time they'd want to upload it.

They've never hosted any kind of kickoff thing so that's as much a mystery to everyone as as you! Hopefully they'll do at least a few games that are just the two of them, and we'll get video of it.

There will also be meet and greet pics (haven't checked the schedule so I'm not sure which day) and since they're on a panel hopefully some good footage of that, too!

I thought I would keep calling him "Dan" forever, but "Daniel" is lowkey growing on me and now my heart is conflicted. I'll probably still call him Dan, but who knows about the future... "Daniel" might slip out once in a while! Especially since I'm lowkey living for "Phaniel"

It's a little confusing to me because sometimes he's clearly thinking for himself, and sometimes he's clearly just parroting liberal commentary. A lot of his fans seem to be very liberal, so I kinda wonder if he might be doing that for their sake.

At the core of it he seems to be a bit more liberal than me, and I'm basically middle ground somewhat liberal leaning.

I didn't realize people had interpreted it differently, maybe it's a generational gap? To me it was obvious he was making a male inclusive "calm your tits" joke

I finally had time to sit and watch the entire Mark of Oxin playthrough! Sorry if this has been talked about before, but it's an awful lot to backtrack and I read kinda slow.

I noticed something at 2:00 in part 2 though...

Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but that's kind of a weird phrasing. I feel like it was a poke at Phil being bi.

I have this theory about Phaniel.

I think they are purposely getting us used to the ideas of them cohabitating long term, both being openly bisexual, and generally the idea of them as an actual couple instead of just a ship BECAUSE...

I think they might be planning to actually reveal themselves as a couple, possibly around the end of the year. BECAUSE...

i hope your prediction comes true. I agree they (at least Daniel) are getting us used to them as a couple in a ltr. Would love them to kiss onstage at BONCAS this year. I thought it was so weird that they didn't even hug last year even though they confirmed they wouldn't go farther than a couple feet apart ever. Kind of doubt they'll actually ever kiss in public, but come on, give us a hug, if even for yourselves to authentically enjoy a shared joyous moment.

As a little thing to start off, I am so curious how many people here actually feel like they're still shipping dnp? Cause i almost feel as if these two are lately becoming just a couple like any other yt couple that's solidified their relationship over the years. I wouldn't call myself tinhatting either with all the recent news about the house and the future dog that seems to confirm everything. It seems as if they are slowly but surely making themselves comfortable infront of us, and also just making all our headcanons well.. canon lol

Not sure where to really put myself within the fandom anymore? as a casual shipper? as an observer? What are people's thoughts on how casual they're being rn? I'm just glad they're looking as happy as ever

as far as shipping, i've said this for a while that i don't really know if i feel like i ship them as much as just genuinely believe that they're together. i feel like it's kind of the same thing but there's a difference. and i've believed they were together for a while but lately they keep doing things that just solidify it even more.

but i agree, i don't think they'll ever actually come out and say they're in a relationship. in my opinion, i think they're not hiding it anymore but also not really saying anything about it. i think that they know that most people know they're together and they're ok with it but they'll never verbally confirm.

i think they won't because they don't want the unnecessary extra attention they'll get because of it, they don't want it to define them because nothing is actually changing, just people's perspective. i also think they just want to have some things just to themselves, like the upstairs of their new place. so as much as i wish i could know just to ease my mind i don't think we ever will officially, but i do hope they keep it up with how they've been recently.
