Dan & Phil Part 46: Some kind of a gay backstory
shaken by the news- three friends living two streets down who had plans to go but those fell through. so grateful they didn't and that almost everyone is okay, although sending love to the victim's family. glad that deppy tweeted about it.

[offtopic]I'm from Manchester and I'm sad even though I'm pretty sure my family's Ok. It just feels even worse when it's somewhere familiar.
Hope everybody there is Ok. It's nice the boys tweeted.[/offtopic]

Just wanna say speculating about their weight/health when we're not trained professionals is pretty shitty - especially when Dan's had weight insecurities in the past (/still does, who knows). I just don't feel as though the conversation should happen, it would create far too much conflict of opinions from us who are literally just judging Dan by his body mass on camera, and any food that he would talk about (I saw something similar about what Phil's was eating being unhealthy a fair few threads back and it's just like ? He wouldn't show everyone him eating a salad or something in comparison to showing sweets).
Manchester: Holy shit it was the first thing I saw on my phone due to dnp being on tweet notifs for me - I can't believe it. I know some people who went to the concert in Birmingham yesterday, if it had been one day earlier... Although on Arianas tweet I saw some Trump supporters claming that it was stuff like this that made them vote Trump and I'm just in shock that they can't express a little sympathy and keep quiet.

All my love to everyone in Manchester, what an awful thing to have happened
It feels pretty futile to be fighting right after such a horrific event, but I will just say that Gnosia your earlier post was wonderful and articulated everything I feel re: the weight discussion. Also thank you to the people pointing out that we're all coming at this from different cultural contexts, that's something that's easy to forget and I'll definitely try and remind myself of that in future.
I do think there's a difference between people ganging up on one person/making personal attacks against them, and multiple people fundamentally disagreeing with what someone's said and expressing that though, and as far as I'm concerned the latter was what happened here for the most part. By expressing my concern about judging dnp on their fitness/eating habits earlier I truly didn't mean to start drama or attack anyone, hence me not actually mentioning anyone's username in the original post so as not to make anyone feel targeted.
I personally feel that pressuring potentially closeted people to come out or else be branded as manipulative a la Shane Dawson and giving unwarranted criticism regarding someone's weight/health is inappropriate, and people here have the right to express that. I would fully expect people to drag me to hell if anyone was offended by something I said on here - that's what a discussion-based website is for!
Anyway that's all I'm gonna say on the matter from here on out, in the interest of not dragging on any negativity as I imagine it's not very fun to read, and there are far more serious things happening in the world right now.

I hope anyone and everyone here that is from or near Manchester is ok. Thoughts are with families, some have lost their children and significant others, it's so heartbreaking. The world can be a messed up place.
Woke up this morning and twitter was full of tweets about Manchester, including deppys, and that is nice of them to do. Cannot imagine how people are feeling right now, it's such a scary and sad situation.
Stay safe everyone.

I am shocked by what happened in Manchester. (Found out by looking at Deppys tweets this morning) Love to everyone in Man City and anyone who was affected by this.
Apparently, the arena isn't too far from their old apartment (not making this about Deppy)
Why do people do these things....
I think Felix's tweet sums my thoughts up best Ari was in Dublin last week (I think) and most of the audience were girls aged 12-19 and early 20's and their parents.
When this type of incident affects people your own age, it really hits home.

The Manchester attack has been constantly on my mind since I read about it; just wanted to hop on here and send out lots of to everyone affected directly or indirectly. It's a terrifying thing for both concertgoers and performers. Feeling incredibly bad for Ariana, she is so young and already has enough weight to carry as a public figure.

Haven't read the last two pages yet, but I just wanted to say I hope all of you and your beloved ones are okay! Couldn't stop thinking about Manchester this morning, even if I don't even live nearby (I'm from Germany). I'm shocked - especially because the audience was so young and, well, this might sound dumb, but I didn't expect an attack at the concert of such a famous singer like Ariana. Wish you the best

It suddenly hit me that the victims in Manchester were so young. I already said it, but I just hope everyone on here in the Manchester area is safe.
The Manchester attack has been such horrific news to wake up to this morning. I regularly travel up there for gigs and will be back there next month for one. It's a fantastic city and one of my all time favourite places.
It strikes me that Ariana's fan demographic appears so similar to D&P's and my thoughts and best wishes go to all those affected by the attack yesterday

Off-topic to everything occuring, but to lighten the mood I thought I'd ask how people discovered Dan and Phil? I'm wondering how many people discovered Dan/Phil first (or if you found them on their gaming channel).
Mine was through Dan's "Meaning of Life" video, which probably says a lot about me aha

oh my god what happened in manchester last night was awful, my thoughts are with those who were affected by the attack

i first discovered dan after his "die emo scum" video was posted on my twitter feed a few years ago! after that i started to watch his videos more and through that i discovered philsaffarinda wrote:Off-topic to everything occuring, but to lighten the mood I thought I'd ask how people discovered Dan and Phil? i was aware of them since like 09 or whenever but i never really watched them. but then a friend recommended one of their sims videos to me years later bc i love the sims. and so then i watched more on their gaming channel until eventually i got sucked into watching literally anything i could find of them on youtube lol. i just started watching their livestreams this year and have watched their joint videos multiple times.saffarinda wrote:Off-topic to everything occuring, but to lighten the mood I thought I'd ask how people discovered Dan and Phil? Quite similar over here, I discovered Dan when I found some screenshots of the "Fandoms"-video in 2013, watched some more videos of him, and at some point of course became aware of Phil (how can you not when you're watching Dan's videos)nikkii wrote:oh my god what happened in manchester last night was awful, my thoughts are with those who were affected by the attack

In late 2015/early 2016, I kept seeing Tumbr posts that were reposted to Instagram. So in March of last year, I decided to check them out. I thought Dan was really funny, I wasn't much into Phil though. Then back in October, after not watching them for a while because personal stuff, I decided to watch them again because I was bored. I watched "I Nearly Blinded Myself" and I was hooked. I began learning about all their history and I was officiallysaffarinda wrote:Off-topic to everything occuring, but to lighten the mood I thought I'd ask how people discovered Dan and Phil? I used to be sad I didn't find them years ago, but once I learned about 2012 and all the drama, I was grateful.

my usual answer is that my sister found them through charlieissocoollike and showed them to me in 2012. but i thought i recognized phil when she showed me, and now i have confirmation! i found my old diary from 2007 (when i was a tiny child, age 11), and i mentioned philsaffarinda wrote:Off-topic to everything occuring, but to lighten the mood I thought I'd ask how people discovered Dan and Phil? so basically apparently i subbed in 2007, and forgot them when i lost that account (in 2010).

I was somewhat aware of Dan and Phil a long time ago. Can't even remember when. But I remember liking Dan's videos, and being really apathetic about Phil (and tbh, I did not ship it at all back then. Thought it was funny anyone would). Then I spent a long time away from YouTube and in summer-fall of 2016, I slowly watched a couple videos here and there. Nothing major. Then when I got out of a LT relationship, I watched some of their Sims videos and just fell in love completely. Lol. I had free time, no one around to judge me, and they made me believe in love again. I know this isn't the whole story though, because I recently found an old tumblr and there was some shippy reblogs on there, but I honestly don't even remember being aware of them at the time, so

ok if there would be an "who discovered Phan in the funniest way"-award, you would most definitely win! I think it is really interesting that a lot of us/phans in general wasn't that enthusiastic when watching the first/second/third video, but then had a long break and after starting to watch them again became a huge phan. The same happened to me - started to notice Dan in 2013, casually watched a video like once every two months, then got obsessed in the end of 2015.
I wonder if it's because something changed about their content/behaviour around that time? Or if it's something about their character/content which people notice only after some time and which gets them obsessed?

I first heard of them when watching Youtube Rewind 2014 in school, and my friend started hyperventilating and phangirling when they appeared on the screen. I didn't understand English well back then so I couldn't had cared less, but after a few months, at the start of spring break, she forced me to watch some of their videos. I realized I actually really liked them, and understood what they said because of their posh accents (or at least Dan; tbh at the start I had no idea what Phil was saying 99% of the time, but luckily my English became better over the timesaffarinda wrote:Off-topic to everything occuring, but to lighten the mood I thought I'd ask how people discovered Dan and Phil? I haven't been a fan for a very long time. I was introduced to them in late 2015, maybe only January 2016, and thought they looked cute, but I didn't watch their videos because I didn't think very highly of them since I thought they were for teenagers and I wanted to be an adult Eventually I started noticing phandom comments under some videos I was watching because of the second April Fools video and became intrigued. I decided I had to know why so many people watch them. I think I watched Phil's "CREEPY DOLL WATCHES ME SLEEP" video first and then discovered the DAPC channel, where I found out where all those comments came from. And now, over a year later, I am here 17-year-old me would be so disappointedsaffarinda wrote:Off-topic to everything occuring, but to lighten the mood I thought I'd ask how people discovered Dan and Phil? My heart goes out to Manchester and all those this senseless attack affected
I went back and looked at my subscriptions back in March, and noticed that I was subscribed to Dan, Phil, and superamazingproject. Out of these three, the only one I even vaguely remember was the very beginning of superamazingproject and how I looked forward to new episodes. The gaming channel didn't exist back then
I clicked on all my old subscriptions to clean up channels I wasn't into anymore, and somehow fell into the dnp hole. I think it was because of the latest pinof or another collaboration? Now I'm making a nice little dent in this pile of trash I'm living in
It's been too long so I don't really remember, but I was watching Dan and/or Phil in 2011 or so at first. I was into YT in a big way 2010/2011, and then I lost interest and never went back until earlier this year. I remember being very into charlieissocoollike though, so I probably found dnp from there.saffarinda wrote:Off-topic to everything occuring, but to lighten the mood I thought I'd ask how people discovered Dan and Phil? i also had a break, but i liked them a lot before it happened as well. i liked them in 2011/2012... ish (i watched one of phils weird kid videos first, i think.) and then i got distracted by life and didn't watch for nearly a year. got back into them more casually after a while, then the gaming videos got me back to being a hardcore phan.
