Okay, I noticed two things from this graph, first that there's a severe drop off point of people discovering them in 2016 and an even larger one in 2017. Some of this can be granted to the amount of time that people go from being casual to a phan, and the amount of time it takes for someone to take that leap and stumble across this survey. However, I do wonder if 2015 really was their peak and if they are in a steady decline in terms of new subscribers? Their new subscribers and followers on Twitter don't seem to be dedicated fans, they all seem to just be casuals and there for the popularity of deppy's videos/tweets. Not because they actually like their content, but because there's compulsion to following a twitter/youtube account with a large subscriber count.

Also, I know that a lot of the results of this survey is kind of positive for Phil fans, but let's be honest most of the people who took this survey have been in the phandom for a while and found this on tumblr or through friends this doesn't exactly cover the entirety of the phandom and only the extremely dedicated. I kind of see some results as needed to be taken with a grain of salt, as I'd see people voting for Phil rather than Dan on popularity posts so that he doesn't feel left out.

I don't genuinely believe in things like the Chinese zodiac or star signs, but I still think they're fun, mysterious, and love when they make sense. So the fact that sheep are compatible with rabbits, and that the descriptions of their signs match up so well, is incredibly satisfying.

The thing I noticed was there are 3.5k people who had taken the survey in 2015 and 20.5k who hadn't, so that's a huge turnover of engagement.

Thanks to all those working on the Survey! I'm a bit of a stats nerd and am already looking forward to spending lots of time looking through all the results. Both my daughters, as well as myself, completed the survey and it prompted some really interesting discussions.

Wonder if we'll get the Dream Daddy video tonight? Hope so - I'm in the mood for a laid back chatty video (golf would also fit the bill nicely but we know they've already filmed DD).

About the drop in new subscribers in the last 2 years, I don't think that we can attribute any importance to the data from 2017 honestly, has obviously the year is only mid-way and I doubt a lot of people that found D&P in recent months would already have become invested in the phandom as to reply to the survey in substantive quantities. I do think that it's interesting that there is such a big drop between 2015 and 2016, and I totally wouldn't be surprised if they had already reached their peak at around 2015 (as many youtubers from their time seem to have), but there are so many factors that come into play that it's hard to tell. I really want to see direct analysis of the change in their subscribers in their channels though. For example, I think that a lot of people stop having interest after being in a fandom after let's say 2/3 years, but then also a lot of people take a while to 'enter' a fandom after engaging with the content, which would explain the huge quantity of people answering the survey from 2015. I love to analyse these results though, it's fascinating, can't wait for more. I can't remember if there was a question about whether the person answering the survey is a big fan or more causal, cause I'd love to see the correlation of that with how long they have been subscribed.

In terms of the results possibly being more positive for Phil because fans wouldn't want for him to feel 'left out', I don't really see the logic in this context, when so far the questions have been 'How long have you been subscribed to Dan/Phil?' 'Who did you find first?' - I don't see why anyone would answer misleadingly in those objective questions, as they don't really show any preferences.

The question about 'What channels are you subscribed to?' with around 40 more people subscribed to Phil than Dan made me really surprised, because I think that in the last survey it was the other way around. (Has Dan humour annoyed 40 people that much? Iconic)

I can relate to this. I remember taking a survey about Dan and Phil awhile ago which was probably the 2015 Phandom Survey. I ended up having a rather tumultuous 2016 in my personal life and with Deppy not posting much content because they were on tour and me becoming increasingly irritated with tumblr to the point of leaving, I stopped watching them and engaging with any part of the phandom.

I finally came back once I was done with undergrad and saw their Moving Out video and Dan's Rebranding video. I guess for me it felt like a breath of fresh air and I felt motivated to see what they were up to again. I slowly caught up on the videos I had missed, and when the Bahamas one was teased I was confused what all the fuss was about which lead me to this place and you lovely people

I didn't end up taking the survey this time around because I was still catching up on things I missed from 2016 and the first few months of 2017. Not sure if other people were in the same boat as I am, but the lack of content and engagement made me fall off the bandwagon for a bit.

Yeah I was interested by that too, especially as both surveys got around the same number of responses. It was very interesting doing the survey actually, I was surprised Phil had more (if only a few) subscribers than Dan. I'm excited to see people's thoughts and reactions when all of the results are published.

I admit that I don't believe in Zodiac compatibility much either. I usually just find them entertaining and funny when they seem accurate. So I'm glad you all thought it was fun too.
autumnhearth I enjoyed the reading for Dan.

I read some on their matched signd and here's some fun anecdotes I thought I'd share:

-The rabbit and sheep have no qualms about being homebodies. They both relish in the security and comfort of their homes, although the rabbit may get the social itch a little more than the sheep.

- Both the Rabbit and Sheep share a fondness for the finer things of life. Even though the Sheep is not as social as the Rabbit, the two are sure to indulge each other with good food, fine wines, and pretty clothes. They do love their expensive clothes, sky bars and hotels

- The sheep will need to be able to rely on the rabbit as he can easily become stressed and scattered, not knowing how to manage his many creative talents. Yet considering the natural connection between the two, the rabbit will most likely know how to handle it, especially since they are excellent listeners. I'm totally not thinking about the existential crisis in TATINOF :gg:

- The rabbit appreciates the sheep's kindness and tenderness, and feels a great sense of achievement and confidence due to the sheep's fixation. *cough* Phil Trash #1 *cough*

- In business, they do best when they are doing something creative. A third party is best hired to handle the books since neither of these signs are known for being practical. On behalf of us all, thank you Martyn for saving D&P from bankruptcy

- When the Rabbit and the Sheep are together, they attract attention because of how much fun they have and how loving they are together. They can even make others jealous at times, this is because of how well they seem to get along. making everyone watching them feel like a third wheel

Sorry, I said to myself I wasn't post this after my last one and instead i turned into complete

autumnhearth wrote:Interesting graph. The volume of gaming channel vids in the spring makes me feel deprived. What are you up to boys?

Cute fan art! I really like the plantboy!phil concept and what people have been doing with it since #vasegate. Too funny.

On a related note, I rewatched Dan's last liveshow last night with the husband (mainly because I wanted him the hear the emo stuff). And I had the same thoughts that I did the first time around, which I don't think I shared here: when Dan said "the sole reason" he doesn't want to show his bedroom is because of its lack of houseplants a went off in my head.

He mentioned the lack of plants and their importance as an aesthetic like half a dozen times. If I were analyzing a ls like literature (which I get it's not) I would say that plants are a metaphor for Phil. Curiously someone in the chat mentioned that there are plants that can survive without sunlight and he asked if there are humans that can, which yeah he was probably referring to himself to be relatable but... And the keeping the curtains drawn could be a metaphor for the privacy of their relationship. Or of course I could just be reading too much into this. Thoughts?

Still curious why he even did the ls there. He mused about possibly doing more ls in his bedroom and about changing where he films his videos and the possibility of eviction.
All sorts of directions.

while my logical side wants to say its seems unlikely that he made this metaphor for the sole purpose of letting people know where the line is.... but my trash side makes It seem like such a dan thing to do, and maybe if not actively, he was subconsciously making these statements with Phil in mind. If so, then that would make complete sense that they would compromise like this, dan wanting to be more open with the audience, but at the same time, Phil posting another sleepless night with phil video to further push the illusion of sleeping in separate rooms.

I admit it was from a couple of different sites. I found them all on the front page of google searching Year of the rabbit and sheep compatibility. Some of the descriptions were uncanny though. I could have easily made the post twice as long.
I shared the lines I found the most interesting and tried to avoid the sites that focused too much on talking about heterosexual relationships.

The phandom has been missing out on some adorable fan art possibilities because of D&P's zodiac fail. There are poor souls out there still believing Phil is a horse.

this "internet and robots will destroy us" talk gives me anxiety, nooooo.

i liked the parts where phil recounted his own memories, and also talked about how their job wouldn't have been possible back then. also dan's talk on being able to share creativity without relying on an authoritative figure. those parts were really interesting to me.

isn't it also possible that less people discovered them in 2016 simply because their main projects in that year were aimed at an audience that was already there while at the same time they were uploading less frequently to all of their channels? i guess we'll only see that if there's another phandom survey and there'll be reliable/complete data for 2017 as well.

but yay! i'm hyped for the survey results. feed me those sweet correlation graphs.

phil liked shelter fanart on tumblr with the caption "my finished painting of @amazingphil in his “wilderness” outfit! I really love the shelter videos - wish he’d revisit that game sometime soon". i sincerely hope he took that message to heart.

That. Is. Adorable. Totally fits Deppy, whether or not it is actually accurate to everyone, it makes my trash, demon self very happy.

I always feel guilty about creepshots but I also love them

I laugh at myself that I'm 100% sure they're a proper couple yet my heart does the happy-flippy-thing whenever Dan hangs out with Phil's family in ways that could honestly be seen as couple-only behaviours, like the politeness freakout, the family vacations and the trips for Mama Lester's birthday along the family AND Martyn's girlfriend

EDIT: the React video was nice, but wow nostalgia. I too have the sound of the modem still going in my brain Phil, I so feel you. The boys look lovely in that video but also quite different from their own, I guess camera angle and lens really do change the way they look in videos.
Will probably never be over the BONCAS and the beauty of Phil Lester.
