They'd never agree to do it, but I just want to see them guest judge monster pops on GBBO junior.998274 wrote:That would be amazing. Just popping in to remind everyone that there is a private messaging feature. If you want to respond to someone's comment specifically you can send your response directly to them. I don't really understand why more people don't take advantage of this feature. Then again I hate public confrontation and reading it makes me really tired and stressed, so of course that is my opinion.
Like the image above, it is important to remember there are both introverts and extroverts on this site, which could account for the group of people who post a lot and respond to each other a lot (and argue a lot lol) and those of us who only pop in to make a brief comment now and again.
Sidenote: With every sims renovation video my signature proves itself more and more prophetic and I love it.

I'm at the hairdresser so bored out of my mind and reading back to this discussion of swearing Phil I just remembered my dream last night. I was watching a Phil swear compilation - dramatically only 1 minute long and bleeped, my guilty pleasure of swearing Phil will never live
I must have fallen asleep right after it because I dreamed Dan and Phil created a new channel, DanAndPhilFUCK and the phandom was freaking out because..well What the hell DID THAT MEAN. Turned out it was just Dan trolling Phil, posting video compilations of Phil swearing and throwing rage fits at the tv while playing Mario Kart.
I'm quite disturbed by my own mind honestly.

Will probably never be over the BONCAS and the beauty of Phil Lester.
Official Moving Hill Mayor
I'd love them on a renovation show. I think another show that would really work for them is Go 8bit. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dara_O_ ... s_Go_8_Bit
They would be able to play video games and they always make a physical version which would be hilarious.

sorry if this regresses the conversation at all but I just wanted to respond to thisgohomohowell wrote:Finally, robot!Phil is creepy. Let's just admit it. A thirty year old man who hasn't matured over the years on his channel but rather regressed and became more childlike to appeal to viewers half his age. The non-swearing so everyone thinks he's a precious cinamon roll!!, the way his vulnerable childish image has lead lots of fans to have a personal "Phil's better than Dan you arseholes!!" vendetta, even draw Phil naked was carried on for a lot longer than it should have.
Regarding "creepy" behavior, what about Dan? How often does Dan reference some kink or sexual situation? Is that not just as concerning as robo!Phil?
My point really being; No matter how a grown man conducts himself ("pure" or not), if his main interaction is with a young audience there will always be a lens through which it can be viewed as "creepy".

Walks through the rubble and clearing smoke. I went to bed after reading a few posts about queer platonic relationships and woke up to three pages on lgbt and mental health responsibility and YouTube audience relationships. And I haven't even posted my thoughts about the Sims episode. Let's start there!
I love decorating episodes and while I was expecting a bit more, I really shouldn't have. It was fun and silly and domestic and that's nice. I do really like how the lounge turned out. That new purple sofa and fireplace really make it pop, but that lonely chair by the window wall should have been replaced with a sofa or two chairs. The kitchen was a disappointment. I know they want to keep it colorful, but those appliances are not sleek (but hey with the breakfast bar references, I got to show my husband that old video and his response was 'that's not even a person" lol). Love the bathroom make-over and Dab's room is still great. The master bed annoys me, but Daliens's room does not, maybe because we know they'll be aging him up, and the cot in the center of a round rug is all kinds of sci-fi minimalist aesthetic. (Just find a better wallpaper. They chose the circle version of Dan's old room.) Oh and the mad scientist laboratory looks great, if totally out of place. And check out Phil with his red room reference. (I feel weird when people on here mention sex dungeons, but if D&P can joke about it...) As for the coziness of the boys, I love ALeaningPhil and how comfortable/natural he is, but Dan often leans away and it's clear it's mainly happening because of where the monitor is for that part of the game, which makes me a little bit annoyed at their set up because everyone is going gaga for the proximity (including me and yes, yes I know it's the the fact that Phil isn't trying to keep distance for the camera which is important.)
Friendship is nice, queer friendship is nice, they are definitely best friends and that's fine if that's all they are comfortable sharing/showing (though I can't and don't want to ignore the romance), however saying you hope they don't come out or are just platonic because that would be validating for you personally, not so nice (in my opinion). At the same time, saying they need to come out and be role models in the lgbt+ community is also a bit selfish. I do sympathize with the disappointment expressed. I was once a young lgbt activist, I started a GSA at my high school and was involved in various groups and events in the community and didn't fully understand why other people were closeted in my area. Fast forward thirteen years and I still didn't really understand why two young, cultured, queer guys wouldn't be out in this liberal internet climate and it *did* upset me.
I've had "Smells Like Teen Spirit" running through my head all morning, because really they are just entertainers to us. Fans like to think of them as friends and they did a great job building that illusion up in their videos and liveshows. As I mentioned earlier, I have been watching their early YouNows (someone here asked why I would do that to myself, my husband asked me the same thing. It's for science, history, sociology, fic research personal phandom knowledge and context) and it is so emotionally draining. I genuinely appreciate how much Phil has matured and become more professional. Yes, I agree there was a time he acted more his age and then appeared to "regressed" for show, but I feel like he's been maturing steadily since then. Comparing 2009, 2012 and current Phil (side channel, ls and vloggy content), there are such stark differences in tone, but also similarities in how he connects/engages with his audience.

I wish he'd give it to Phil, so Phil can bird-feed again, and get their neighbors angry at them again, so they'd have to move (to hopefully a forever home), and fulfill our dreams and aspirations. But then that's me just dreaming. I'd feel really guilty if that really happened. But then... imagine if it did...

P: What are you doing?
D: I'm feeding it to you.
P: Why is it so slow?

I wanted to quote this part of your post because it really resonates with me and I just want everyone to see it in case someone missed it.thephandommenace wrote:Is it fair to make depression relatable and funny? I'm a firm believer that you can joke about anything, even sad things like illness and depression, as long as you don't make the victims the butt of the joke. And whether it's social anxiety or feeling hopeless, Dan's humour has brought a lot of people together and helped them make light of something that normally brings them down. You may not agree and be particularly sensitive to it and not find it funny, which I can understand. But making jokes about it and making it not such a big deal to talk about can also help people feel less ashamed about their mental health, especially if they see other people living with it but being able to laugh about it. So I think it helps that Dan makes it #relatable. It isn't othered into this strange, sad, scary thing, but something that's a part of himself that he has to deal with. And other people who have depression/anxiety don't feel so alone. In my opinion
I am the type to joke about everything. My insecurities, things I'm afraid of, things that make me sad, I will joke about it all because it makes it all more bearable. And I truly enjoy jokes Dan makes, it makes me feel better to see someone saying things I can relate to. I love it that we can laugh at all these awful things together. It takes some power away from them, even if just for a little while.
I do get it that it's not everyone's cup of tea and some might see it not taking these matters serious enough, for me it's just not at all like that.

Yeah I found that too, but how would you order that by accident? Unless.... they were ordering other pet supplies from that store They have a dog food section and Dan thought they were also selling human snacks?
But literally, all the rest are clearly marked as bird food!LtrllySusan wrote:Yeah I found that too, but how would you order that by accident? Unless.... they were ordering other pet supplies from that store They have a dog food section and Dan thought they were also selling human snacks?

Around here where I live you can buy tons of different seed mixes for humans, just for snacking. He might've assumed it was a similar thing and not paid enough attention. There's plenty of 'power mix' and 'party mix' things out there, I don't think it's that strange to see something labelled 'summer seed mix' and think it probably just means added fruits.998274 wrote:I went and googled it and almost all of them freaking bird on the package! I just wanted to say that I've been thoroughly enjoying reading the discussions over the past few days, from culture to queerbaiting to creepiness, and imo everyone's opinions have been well-articulated and from a good place. I was sorry to see the couple of times things went south, but overall it was so informative and, for lack of a better word, fun to read.
I'm not really keen on jumping in on the debate (looks like things are winding down, anyway), but since Phil's on-camera behavior has been such a hot topic, I did want to throw in my two cents, because: that's why I love him. Literally the number one reason I enjoy his content so much is because it's shallow and light and artificial and feel-good. There are only a few YouTube channels I consistently follow, and I don't watch any of them because I'm interested in their "real life". I like one channel for their travel vlogs, another for his creative spin on gaming, and another for his animations. And for Phil, I like watching him in his little bubble where he predicts Dan's future and shows us things he regrets buying, and that's literally all there is to it. It's like cotton candy; sweet and fluffy with no real substance, and for me, that's why it tastes good.
I remember reading a tumblr post once that referred to Phil as "eggshell paint personified", and my first thought was... well, okay, my first thought was, "you used 'personified' wrong," but my SECOND thought was, "yep, and that's the content I signed up for." It was meant to be an insult since he doesn't talk about his opinions on any "important" topics (politics I guess?), but like... I appreciate that there's no drama, no tension, essentially nothing to stress over or think too hard about. I don't think Phil is actually a robot, I'm sure he's a complex and deeply flawed human with strong opinions on the world around him, but that doesn't need to be part of his content. In fact, I appreciate that it isn't.
Like several others have already brought up, I understand why people might want him (and Dan) to be more authentic. Despite everything I said above, I do enjoy in liveshows and such when he touches on topics that are important to him (can't remember if he's really done this recently, though, aside from encouraging others to vote and the pride mentions on twitter) and lets the ~persona~ drop a bit. I have gotten attached to him and Dan as creators, so I'm certainly not against moments of transparency or vulnerability; I just like that he doesn't make it part of his main content. The inoffensiveness is what I'm here for (or at least what drew me in initially).
This post isn't meant to try and change anyone's mind on Phil's content either; I just wanted to express why I like it as it is, since I didn't see this brought up much before.

Hello World is still announcing special guests, big ones at that... I sure hope Dan and Phil don't make it on this list...

I am appreciating the general compassion and maturity in discussions here, even when things get heated. I don't post Opinions a lot because I'm an inveterate conflict-avoider, but there are very few places on the internet (or even irl) where I could express myself as we do here and people will listen, respond, not always agree, and that's ok. It really has stayed remarkably civil considering how polarizing some of these topics are.
Thanks for being awesome in that way, guys, it's why I stick around.

adding to the Phil-robot discourse. I mean, I know that he is not very forthcoming, but his liveshows and videos bring me so much joy. I am literally smiling so much right now:) That's why I love Phil.
Also, we were right in guessing that he was distracted in his liveshow because of the dilated pupils (or drugs)
EDIT: Phil had the same excuse as Dan for seeing Dunkirk (that he didn't understand the timeline).
