Is it just me that enjoys casual references to Phil driving?
I don't even know if Dan drives - does he?
Dan & Phil Part 52: And They Were Roommates
Looks like an unpopular opinion but I loved them in the video but the game itself was quite boring to me. Loved the way Dan made fun of the way Phil said Quebec.

Dan had a car back before uni, he mentions it in My First Time I think. And I remember him saying he had misplaced his drivers license and had no idea where it was in a really old liveshow once. I hope he has found it since then :')gnostic wrote:Is it just me that enjoys casual references to Phil driving?

I feel like neither have driven in years though. Phil has admitted he isn't a very good driver at some point as well I think.

Phil told the badger story once before in a video from 2009 called 'Bradley', that he's since deleted. It happened when he was driving to Wales with his friends. He never specifies in the video if he was the one driving or someone else, he just keeps saying "we", but he does refer to himself as a 'killer' at the start of the video so that seems to imply he was the one driving.

I live in Sweden and 'Swedish fish' don't at all taste like our own fish candy (which is delicious!), it's such a rip-off I can't even see a package of it without wanting to invite the unfortunate owner of it for tea and sweets at my house. Consider yourself invited sarmstr2 - and bring Dan and Phil along with you, will ya?

The beginning and ending were cute, but I guess I just don't enjoy them playing this game very much. Will give another try tonight as I was distracted a bit with knitting. Poor badger. Thanks for the background story! Not a big fan of Swedish Fish myself, (too hard, the smaller ones are better) the husband likes them, so I occasionally try them again (like yesterday). Cool story Autumn.

Earlier today I was watching Just Between Us which is run by two best friends Gabby and Allison. Their audience tends to ship them but both have made it clear they are codependent best friends and nothing more. They use the fact that people think they are a couple as a way to get them in funny situations in their sketches. I honestly see a lot of parallels between them and deppy. However deppy has never really said outright that they aren't dating. Saying they aren't dating didn't hurt JBU, instead they used it as a tool in their sketches. What I wonder is that if deppy aren't dating why don't they do a similar thing. Another thing is that Dan's humor is based of being relate-able. But he has never mentioned being alone. Even when it would be appropriate like in the valentines day live show or the tinder spon. These are just some thoughts I have and I would like to hear other peoples opinions. Also here is the JBU youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/justbetweenusshow.

I'm sure you'll get people responding to you to say that Dan did deny they were a couple - but I think that's kind of getting by a technicality at this point, since that was years ago and a very brief period of denial followed by five years of ambiguity and both of them growing up and seeming to make the choice to recommit themselves to a life together repeatedly with no other significant others or future plans that don't involve each other.
So basically - I agree that you can take a lot from what Dan and Phil don't do; like Dan not using being single as a relatable thing or Phil choosing something from when he was a young teenager for his Tinder video. One thing they both really avoid doing is giving anyone the perception that they're single or making any relationship/potential relationship a point of their bantering and comedy at all.

Just chiming in with my favorite parts of the Geoguessr video.
The whole thing about it being a good intro was fun. It was indeed a good (if disorganized) intro, it felt like playing a game with friends and everyone trying to explain the rules and talking over each other at once.
Then I loved that bit at the very end with "like a seal" and the ensuing seal roleplay (so cute, and felt like just a silliness that would be natural to them without the camera on) followed by "you don't get to eat you just get to sniff," and Phil's total inability to deny Dan anything for long. I love when Phil pushes back, which he did a lot in this video, it gives it a better balance. But he usually gives in at least once and I love it.

Just wanted to say, thanks (or no thanks, haven't quite decided) to alittledizzy on tumblr for posting about how phils little "I'm corny. Corny corny corny" jingle is actually referencing a song called "I'm horny", which my ears had not been tainted with until today. Oh Phil. It's just the right anoint of weird and sexual yet cheesy type of awful song I would expect him to be into
That said, loved the video. Dan was maybe a bit too extra with the bants/obnoxious comments (I get it, not a lot of action in these games, it could be a bit dull without amping up the silliness) but Phil kept up and balanced it out which kept me from getting annoyed.

I was surprised with how forthcoming it was! Not that I've ever seen a lot of similarities personality wise between D&P and Caspar and Joe, the latter being very much on the British lad spectrum, where as D&P are about as least lad-like as you're going to find. That said, I've always thought Dan and Joe as having the uncanny ability to squirrel out of providing a serious answer to something personal with either deflection or humor—so it was nice to see Joe in a reflective and forthcoming manner for a change. He gave an answer about his love life and dating history, something I've wondered about for a long time as Joe has only ever labeled himself straight, yet in all the time he's been a youtuber, he's never had a girlfriend or really dated, and it was interesting to see him reflect on the subject at length.George wrote:That Joe and Caspar interview was interesting and funny when you compare them to Dan and Phil. When they talk about how buying a house is a smart move, I can't help but wonder when Dan and Phil will (did. in march...). Is it weird for other youtubers to see them moving into their third house together, when they know the stress of living and working together? How do deppy actually manage that, too bad they never really talk about that stuff. Even that's private, I guess.
Would love to hear an in depth interview given by a peer, and not somebody from traditional media where half the questions are trying to figure out just what exactly is this "youtuber thing". I couldn't even fathom D&P subjecting themselves to a personal interview like that—in fact after the Sunday Times fiasco, I can't imagine them ever agreeing to something where they didn't have final edit over. Would be awesome though to get some unadulterated/unwaffling insight to some topics though.

This is so interesting to me and has been on my mind lately as well. When was the last time that either one of them has flat out denied/dodged any questions about their relationship? Has there been any sort of denial in recent years?alittledizzy wrote: I'm sure you'll get people responding to you to say that Dan did deny they were a couple - but I think that's kind of getting by a technicality at this point, since that was years ago and a very brief period of denial followed by five years of ambiguity and both of them growing up and seeming to make the choice to recommit themselves to a life together repeatedly with no other significant others or future plans that don't involve each other.
Just so odd to me that there was a time when they (mostly Dan, tbh) were so defensive about the topic. Nowadays it's like... no homo howell? Never heard of her.

I feel like in a way, we're seeing Dan do almost a complete juxtaposition of what he did in 2012. Like back then, he went out of his way to make people think he's straight. Always making comments about how he likes girls and boobs and that he's had girlfriends. But now, I sorta feel like he's trying to subtly let us know that he's not straight. Like he's taking a lot of the oppertunities he can to drop little hints that he isnt straight (fondly talking about boys in liveshows, matching with girls and boys in the tinder video). Like he's trying to sorta reverse the damage he did in his good ole no homo phase without directly addressing it - and I'm loving it tbh.Ewok wrote:This is so interesting to me and has been on my mind lately as well. As for the relationship denials, of course the little cynic in me is saying 'they're being ambiguous about their relationship to keep us on our toes and keep us guessing', but more so I do think that they're being ambiguous about it to protect what little privacy they still have in terms of their relationship.

Also, it's kinda ironic to me that the strategy Caspar, Joe, and their group of friends are trying to implement, is already being done by D&P across their 5 channels together. It just goes to show how actually business-savvy the two are (or Phil maybe? Dunno).

P: What are you doing?
D: I'm feeding it to you.
P: Why is it so slow?
This. Yes yes and yes. I wish they'd talk about this stuff even a little in their liveshows.RiriPandaHeart2 wrote:I don't need them to even admit to anything. But I do understand their need for privacy. It's just my lil selfish heart that wants the answers.![]()
The difference between Dan and Phil tho, when compared to Joe and Caspar, is that when the other one is successful it's towards them both as a whole. It's literally money to buy their forever home. And for that reason I can't imagine them getting their feelings/irritations towards each other to be shown in business meetings etc. (Also, they might generally be more mature and professional.) And they are really good at hiding their feelings, they're doing it all the time. How much media training they must've got, with everything to spill and nothing has been revealed...

Caspar's interview with Joe is really interesting. Joe's the only YTer I originally watched who I still follow, though I only watch his videos occasionally, it's nice to see more of him behind the prank lad, he's a good bloke.

Well, I think you can't really compare the two that much because their personalities are so different and so is their content. Gaby has been openly bisexual and polyamorous from the very beginning, Allison is a monogamous straight woman. They also are very different, with Gaby being more outgoing, and they had several times where they weren't that close anymore (but they have recently gotten very close again). Dan and Phil have quite similar interests and are also both introverts that sit in the corner at a party. They are also very private while GnA discuss their dating lives, insecurities, and problems openly and make sketches out of it, while making it clear that those aren't exactly the truth since they don't even live together. There's a lot of social justice on their channel as well. And while they have a joint channel, most of their other projects aren't joint except for the occasional cameo, while DnP do almost everything together but have the most subscribers on their individual channels that they also seem to see as joint in some way. Also, Allison has another best friend, Igor, and I don't know if Gaby has other best friends as well, while Deppy see only each other as best friends.eel wrote:Earlier today I was watching Just Between Us which is run by two best friends Gabby and Allison. The only thing I can think of that's the same for both of them is their amazing chemistry that draws viewers in and results in shipping.
Based on all of this, it makes sense to me. Back in the day, Dan (and probably also Phil) was clearly not comfortable with sharing his sexuality, so that's the first problem. Then the v-day vid leaked and everything changed, so they panicked. GnA started their channel together with a whole plan and were also older than Deppy when they started, already being quite comfortable in their identities and having degrees and work experience that could get them a job in case YouTube didn't work out. Dan doesn't even have a degree, which might have been one of the reasons he was so reluctant to admit that he isn't straight and didn't want to be seen as Phil's boyfriend. And as I personally believe they are together, it is quite obvious why they couldn't handle it the way GnA do, even if they had been comfortable in their sexualities and their careers.
