my two cents: dan saying they've ordered new broadband doesn't really negate the moving theory...they've obvi just ordered it to be installed in the forever home

It feels to me like earlier this year before the first move, when he said he was going to change up his filming background and gestured behind him. Technically right (because he was!) but misleading (because his new background was in an entirely new apartment).annabanana wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 8:54 pm my two cents: dan saying they've ordered new broadband doesn't really negate the moving theory...they've obvi just ordered it to be installed in the forever home![]()

oh gosh - stuff like this kills me. they always pick the worst vids to "introduce" people to them. they should show an individual video of them, a gaming video, a baking video, and then a PINOF. That selection offers a full view of their content.xxx wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:14 pm Facts.(kind of like the Irish version of buzzfeed) reacted to deppy

The mental image your phrasing gave me is of Dan being bored with his video background and trying to improve it, and spending a day moving it getting progressively more frantic and frazzled and deciding to order a pizza to help him think it through. So he ends up checking his bank balance to see if he can afford said pizza, realising he can literally just move house to get a new background because he's not poor anymore, and calling Phil into the room being like 'Phil I cannot stand this background anymore, we're moving house', with his hair all over the place and furniture and miscellaneous possessions everywhere.alittledizzy wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:01 pmIt feels to me like earlier this year before the first move, when he said he was going to change up his filming background and gestured behind him. and Phil just backing out of the room slowly
don't waste your time
or time will waste you
or time will waste you
Oh wow I'd totally forgotten that Dan accidentally showed the other side of his room, his face as he realizes is funny to me (at around 21:30):lol:sparkle wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 8:32 pmThank you - I do try more with my Dan and Phil analysis than I ever have in educationMoony wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 8:24 pmFirstly, great post, very interesting. Secondly, what?!!sparkle wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 2:22 pm Moon Room - apart from being GORGEOUS, this room was supposed to never be on the internet. It is much bigger than Phil's room, and it contained things that are questionable in who they belong to. Furthermore, if you watch Dans eyes during it, I do believe Phil was sat on the floor and Dan was looking for his permission in what to show. I don't think that we only saw approximately half of it was any coincidence. He wouldn't have just shown it - if Phil was editing/test streaming, doing a live show is also part of Dans job and that should have taken precedence over whatever Phil was doing.
I am not that up to date in the moment, so maybe it's my fault, but when was the moon room shown? I completely missed that.![]()
It was in this liveshow
yea it seemed like they were pretty confused, from the videos shown I feel like they came iff as people that always did Q&AS and random things just for content. Like really? pinof and Tumblr tag?Vanderlyle wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:29 pmoh gosh - stuff like this kills me. they always pick the worst vids to "introduce" people to them. they should show an individual video of them, a gaming video, a baking video, and then a PINOF. Brb just starting up a trashcan parade in honor of having back my favorite (and obviously the most important) emoticon.
First - I'm absolutely dying over here. Everyone on IDB is just so damn funny. Thank you for keeping me so entertained.
Secondly - The golf vid was everything I needed today. Dan being a sassy competitive dork (and looking like he's about ready to climb into Phils lap, CHILL, u know u can spectate from ur own screen rite), Phil's beautiful Culture Club rendition... yup. Anyone else feel like they'd just be so at ease being friends with these weirdos? Love them to death.
On moving theories:
On coming out:
Regardless of anything... there's definitely something in the works! I like the theory that they are pitching a show to a TV network. If Dippy and Pippy were successful in creating an actual TV show, that'd be pretty huge self promotion and a good way for them to diversify their portfolio. I feel like they are definitely smarter than the average YouTuber, definitely very, very frugal boys for being millionaires, and will not rely wholly on YT $ for the rest of their lives. Such smart boyes.

Omg, Ewok, I love all those D and P nicknames. I like the name Pippin myself (friend of mine's dad gave him and his brothers cute nicknames, the Philip was Pip). Maybe Dapple to go along with it, that was the grey horse in the farm kids show I used to watch.
That reaction video, oh cringe. How can people think they're twins
That comment about a Mr Bean wig on a White Walker. Ouch. Kinda funny, though. What is it about men not liking them, though? It seems so common, there are so many kids and more women than men in the phandom, always the ones who leap to hate them are straight (I guess) adult men. I don't know if there's anything deep to it or is it just cos they're not macho, but queer and cute with it? Is it a homophobic thing, even if people don't realise it, or is not liking them and their humour not that deep? Young guy I knew hated them, but his g/f watched them so he'd seen some, he made an awful comment about some weird gay thing they might do (it wasn't clear to me if it was meant about their potentially being gay, it was about helping each other do something, and it was a gross thing to say). It seems a strong reaction when you could just find them a bit annoying.

I agree they look nothing alike.
One pair thought they are a couple but chimes in to say she doesn't think they are but people want them to be
the same girl went on to mention if she was a 14 year old again she would be all over them which is pretty true according to most of their audience

I loved the golf video, the bants were great. They talk so much and it's all so random, there were a few times I had to replayed sections to figure out what was said but I'm not complaining! It was so funny, and I'm still cackling at Phil's dig at Dan's clothing at the end.
I'm not quite sold on the moving theories but I'm loving the speculation regardless.

I loved the golf video! To be honest, if they kept playing Golf With Friends on that channel and nothing else I'd be okay with that. Those bants. (Also everytime one of them gets a Birdie, I feel spoken to even though I changed my username ages ago.

first of all, i loved all the dick talk.
anyways, about them coming out, I'm on team They Won't/Can't Do It Separately, whether or not they're married/dating each other. My reasoning for this is this: e.g. if Dan made a video or whatever about it, and Phil didn't, people would literally bother Phil until he did. In that, they truly are a duo. Realistically, Dan can't just make a coming out video (or something along the lines) and then a week later, Phil makes a video talking about how clumsy he is or something and pretends like everything's normal. Pretty much his whole comment section would be flooded with people asking about his sexuality. It would extremely affect his content. This is, of course, just an example. It can easily be the other around.
this is just my take on it. I do think that there will be a coming out of some kind. In a way, their whole branding is somewhat based on the type of relationship they have with each other. I don't think they'll just continue without acknowledging it. I still believe it's somewhat of a last tactic for them if/when they become irrelevant.

You don't know what the internet is gonna be like in a place til you're moved in and using it though! I find it believable that they'd have chosen a provider that's not very good in their area and not realised until it couldn't handle uploading, streaming, etc. Lucky they're rich enough to buy themselves out of their contract really!Ewok wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:57 pm
Why in the hell would Dip & Pip move to an apartment with an even worse internet connection? If I'm being totally honest, I think their biggest reason for moving was that they got tired of the "roommate" setup in their old flat. I'm sure that their other reasons were legitimate as well, but a bit of an oversight to move to a place with the exact same problem isn't it? My lil trashcan heart would like to believe the real reason for their move is that they wanted a big boy master bedroom to finally share away from prying eyes. I just find the gigantic moon room vvvvv romantic.
It would also make sense to show as little of their apartment as possible if they were going to be sneaky about a second move. Hmm. I don't even know what to think anymore. The internet thing in general just fucks with me a bit though, it is all very reminiscent of the last move. Why are these rats so suspiches?[/spoiler]
I personally don't think they're moving again just yet: it's a stressful thing to do, they didn't do it that long ago, and neither of them seems to like change all that much. To me it's much more likely they're working on something that keeps them busy/out of the house a lot and that's why they're pre-filming/cancelling live shows.
Also I never bought pre-filming as 'proof' of anything: it just seems like a smart way to work if you're a YouTuber, so you know you always have content to post. It's what I'd do!
EDIT: actually I just thought, it's equally possible they've gone or are going on holiday and don't want to say because of airport stalking: they've only had work trips so far this year with a few extra days with Phil's family.
I like the discussion of moving but I'm not sold on it. It's mainly because of the fact that the proof just seems a bit up in the air. Like Dan said in the livestream that he planned to talk about Taylor Swift's new song in his liveshow so it makes since that the internet is just acting up now. And then people saying Phil got his bruises from moving but Dan wanted him to tell the story of how he got them. Also I'm pretty sure they only pre-filmed like two video seeing as they were going to Scotland and it's good to have an extra video prepared when you have the time to sit down and film one. I do think deppy are up to something and we will see it in the upcoming month but we will just have to wait.
Trust me though if it turns out that they are moving I will gladly eat my words and put in applications at the FBI for everyone here.

If they ordered new broadband, I suspect they are switching companies and hence the wait time, otherwise a bump in speed can be done over the phone. I don't live in London, but I believe your main choices are between BT or Virgin Media. I suspect they use BT which relies on a form of DSL (internet through the phone line), which has speed limitations and degredates easily especially when serving congested neighborhoods or apartments—almost always with DSL you never get what you pay for. If it's available, then they're probably switching to cable broadband, which provides much faster speeds and won't bottle neck as much when the rest of the neighborhood is using at the same time. I think Virgin provides 100mbps standard and you can probably upgrade more.
But even the fastest internet in the world will turn to crap if the router is old or weak or not placed well. Ideally they'd get a wired connection straight into the office, but if that's not possible then repeaters, or better yet, a separate router in bridge mode that would pick up wifi from the base router, and then connect into your computer directly via Ethernet, since a router is much better at picking up a signal than a busted ass mac book (ahem).
For a weird reason, I've got this pet peeve when a professional or practitioner doesn't use the best tools available to them... like if a chef uses a dull knife and cheap pots, or like if hugely successful internet creators use busted ass computers and weak af internet.
Since its multiple-opinion day it seems, I'll throw out mine on deppy's sexuality... my only wish for them at this point is some sort of casual acknowledgement, not wink and nod, or glass closet stuff, just one day *boom* you're out to the world, but without the fanfare, like Jon Cozart—he didn't have a coming out video, he posted an insta of what was clearly a coming out celebration (if you looked close enough) with his friends and since then has made only passing comments and jokes about his bisexuality, but there is no room for ambiguity—he's an out Bi man. Now if Dan's biggest hang up is the whole label thing, fine, then speak to that and don't turn it around and say that it's society's issue that we can't figure you out or put you in a box. At some point denial and misdirection seems an awful lot like shame.
I'm not sure how others feel about celebrities or public figures and their "social obligation" (if there is one) to come out so they can be a beacon for others or an advocate for the community, I'm not sure I buy into it myself, but if I had one reason for either or both of them to come out would be for the positive impact and visibility, especially for a younger demographic that makes up the majority of their audience... there's a lot of power in someone you admire and are entertained by and hearing and seeing them come out. There's a plethora of examples, but let's just say you're a young diver or athlete and you grew up watching Tom Daley in the Olympics and said I want to be like him someday, now imagine that same young athlete is questioning their sexuality and you see your idol come out and live their life open and unabashed—that is incredibly inspiring and influential and could change the life of that young person (and many others to be sure).
I feel like a dick for saying it, but at this point I think D&Ps sexuality is not public because of selfish reasons or hangups—they will never (seemingly) come out as a couple, so revealing their sexuality comes too close to erasing the plausible deniability of the platonic nature of their relationship.
The only other more slightly outlandish theory that is always in the back of my mind, is they were once romantic, but put it aside around the time they moved in together for the sake of their friendship and working relationship (though I'd refuse to believe that both of them would have this exact same desire so odds are one of them ends up living with unrequited love—very fanfic, I know)—that at least would add a level of complexity that they'd rather avoid being public knowledge and therefore that's why they guard their sexuality.

wow, i guess i've missed a lot! i got a new job and working two jobs while i finish my last two weeks at the old one has been super tiring, i've only had time to watch the videos, not keep up with discussion.
very sad i missed the dickscourse, even though some were upset about it, i think i could definitely have contributed
don't know much about patreon, but i don't think i like the idea of them doing that. for reasons others stated, it's not really something i can see them doing.
loved the livestream although i'm upset about how awful the lag was. and upset that i was out while it was live. hoping i can catch the one that they do next week while it's live, but unlikely with my shiny new full-time job. either way, i'm glad that the audio didn't suffer. i can't wait for them to get even more comfortable with the gaming streams if that's what we got out of their first.
i looooved golf with friends today! i really enjoy this series and today's wasn't my favorite of the three but i appreciated and enjoyed it nonetheless. what i especially loved about it was the colors in the video. am i making this up or was everything more vibrant? maybe it was the colors they were wearing but i couldn't get over how pretty the whole thing looked, and i'm not talking about the twilight course, i'm talking about them. the whole thing was gorgeous. maybe i am making it up!
i've seen some people discussing the weird handshake at the end of the video on tumblr, relating it to them being afraid to touch each other on camera.
all i can see is them trying to do a 'polite golf' handshake. i'm as deep in the trashcan as i can be but not everything needs a conspiracy.
as far as the moving train....i'm not sure i'm on it. i do believe they won't be in the current apartment for too long, but i don't think they're moving just yet. and i probably won't until it happens, unless something drastic happens like last time with dan's younow from his phone, showing totally empty bedside tables and no wirrow painting, followed by a baking video with nothing but video necessities in the kitchen. i love the idea of them moving into their forever home the sooner the better, but the evidence isn't strong enough for me yet to think it's imminent.

liked the new golf video! was very cute. i loved the colours and the bants. they both looked really good in this video (maybe i just like the really dark colours of the twilight level in the golf game idunno) but. dip n dot might be movin? i mean, i'm not completely sold, but it's certainly possible.
also when dan said that "we're together" comment i was like hmmm *side eyes emoji* bc i know itll be taken out of context haha. good video though overall. im a bit sad we didnt get a dan liveshow today, i was looking forward to that. but oh well

With regard to the bolded part above: how does that not describe at least Dan currently already? He hasn't tweeted (tweeting being a more widely public thing, compared to like the more laid-back liveshow environment where he has been pretty explicit) about boys as explicitly as Cozart, but the sentiment is the same, he's not trying to appear like he's only attracted to women, he's not trying to appear to be straight, he's pretty open about that and has been for some time. What more is required to not be considered only ~ambiguous. I think people only think it's as ambiguous as they see it because they've tied D&P's sexualities into the relationship. If we don't know they're together, if the relationship is ambiguous, then the sexualities are too, when that's completely unnecessary. We don't need to know that Dan is with Phil to accept his numerous displays of attraction to men. Shoving people into a closet they're not trying to be in is endlessly frustrating to me (I'm not necessarily saying that's what you're trying to do here buut).Phantasy wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2017 2:55 am Since its multiple-opinion day it seems, I'll throw out mine on deppy's sexuality... my only wish for them at this point is some sort of casual acknowledgement, not wink and nod, or glass closet stuff, just one day *boom* you're out to the world, but without the fanfare, like Jon Cozart—he didn't have a coming out video, he posted an insta of what was clearly a coming out celebration (if you looked close enough) with his friends and since then has made only passing comments and jokes about his bisexuality, but there is no room for ambiguity—he's an out Bi man. The thing about fanfare: D&P have a crazy large audience. Jon Cozart also has a large audience, sure, but he uploads like once every few decades, he doesn't have thousands of people breathing down his neck weekly and he doesn't keep people somewhat in the day-to-day (well, week-to-week. sometimes) loop like D&P comparably do. To state the obvious, they're handling their careers differently. I think the 'easing into things' route that D&P (mainly D I have to say, sorry, but he's always been more generally forthcoming) have taken has been a both good and bad thing because the audience is the frog who hasn't yet noticed they're boiling because they're still waiting for some obvious line of change. Like 'oh Dan is out now, when before now he wasn't'. The water's boiling, it's been boiling for awhile, but nobody wants to acknowledge it because they always think there's more to come. I guess the finish line where they just release their wedding photo? One day out of the blue for literally no reason, in direct opposition to everything they've ever said and tried to keep to themselves? It's not happening. Take what's already there for what it is, there's actually a lot less ambiguity when you get rid of the fog of anticipation of more more more.
Also, wanting something to be received without a lot of fanfare has little to do with how people will actually react, especially when the people doing the reacting are an overwhelmingly large and engaged and ..excitable.. group of people. Putting some kind of quotable and definitive statement out there would be a Big Deal whether D&P wanted it to be or not (and they clearly don't want it to be... that's why we are where we are...)
I also disagree with the shame comment in relation to D&P in a way that I can't even discuss in a coherent way right now because it actually made me something-like-angry. And the selfishness comment. So hopefully some other part of this made sense and I need to leave now.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

I've always seen this as a case of not only (potentially subconscious) homophobia but also misogyny. As proven by any react video ever, they generally come across as something that teenage girls would love, and as we know, anything that teenage girls love becomes stigmatised.

the new gaming video was lovely, I always enjoy the mood of those and their relaxed bants. but the bit when Phil had to cross the rails was really stressful!
the highlights for me were the handshake (whatever the reason was, it's just cute) and the moment around 12.32 with Dan's soft "Phil, seems like you're one behind" (maybe it's just the contrast after all the screaming but I replayed it several times).
the joy was a little spoiled because the ls was cancelled. I agree with thatdanandphilguy that when you're waiting for something for the whole day, it can be disappointing. I was really in the mood for a ls and the gaming vid didn't hit the spot and I'm a tiny bit salty that out of all the videos it had to be my beloved golf one. still better than nothing
I can't buy the explanation about the slow internet, as it worked perfectly fine all the previous weeks. I guess he was just tired because he'd been doing something else. a project? maybe. moving out? not unlikely. or maybe they're indeed switching companies like Phantasy suggested
I'm not sure what to believe but I think I'll jump on the moving train simply because it seems fun. the route may be devious but I like the destination. I don't think we're going to reach it soon. some time around Christmas? 2018? I hope so. and it would be nice if they chose to share the news. though I'm not saying they have to
with all these theories, it's like trying to read a book where some pages are missing and chapters keep changing places. but again it's better than having nothing to read at all
oh, pink trash can, my star

I agree with somethingsketchy's assessment-- it's not that they are put off by dnp's content itself necessarily, but by dnp's perceived audience. teenage girls aren't seen as a complex audience (even tho they are). sometimes i wonder if men react like this out of secondhand embarrassment to the supposed degradation of being primarily liked by such a group of allegedly substandard people; they wouldn't be caught dead making videos for this demographic (though i bet teenage girls make up a huge portion of this channel's views) so clearly there's something wrong with someone who does and maybe they think dnp lack self-awareness. If in an alternate youtubeless timeline any of these dudes met d or p through their jobs or w/e they probably wouldn't have such an immediate visceral negative reaction.somethingsketchy wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2017 5:42 am(bolded by me)flarequake wrote: Tue Aug 29, 2017 10:19 pm That reaction video, oh cringe. fine, let's talk about shame.Phantasy wrote: Wed Aug 30, 2017 2:55 am I feel like a dick for saying it, but at this point I think D&Ps sexuality is not public because of selfish reasons or hangups—they will never (seemingly) come out as a couple, so revealing their sexuality comes too close to erasing the plausible deniability of the platonic nature of their relationship.
coming out of the closet is framed as being a rejection of a gay/bi/etc person's internalized shame which may or may not actually exist. the reality of the matter is that formally coming out of the closet is set up to be, even in the best case scenarios, enormously humiliating. being a public figure is not a best case scenario because there's just that many more people scrutinizing you who have their own expectations you need to contend with.
here is a list of things in a typical formal coming out announcement:
- a recounting of internalized shame, which others can then experience voyeuristically, and which is straight people's fault
- apologizing for "lying" about one's sexual orientation/gender identity, which the person did to protect themselves from straight people or maybe they never lied and straight people made a bunch of assumptions
- apologizing to straight people for making their lives difficult because now they've got to do the hard work of unpacking their homophobia
- asking everyone to please accept you, despite your sexual orientation which has now been positioned as a flaw
- acting profusely grateful when people react with basic human decency to your announcement
- answering a dozen obtuse and invasive questions
what i'm trying to get at is that coming out in this way requires the individual doing so to undergo public self-flagellation for things that aren't their fault for the benefit of those who harm them. refusal to participate in such a ritual may, in my reading anyway, indicate not internalized shame but tremendous self-respect . formally coming out can be an activist/political gesture, but not it shouldn't be obligatory; it's not at all shameful to go the queen latifah route.

Phil was hilarious in the golf vid, that was my favorite vid in a while.
Some of my favorite bits:
Everything about Phil's voice at 6:58
Groin comment at 11:49. Maybe he actually has been reading this forum lol
At 12:37 ... I love when phil makes "your mom" jokes even though he got super sensitive and moody when dan made them. Phil's mom is too good for this world, he can't let such blasphemous comments be made about her
At 13:00, I just love hearing phil talk about his childhood friends, is that weird? Like, I could listen to him talk all day about all the shenanigans he got up to as a young lad. He and his friends probably made more movies like the one Phil posted a couple years ago, and I need to see it. What I'm basically saying is that I want a Phil origin story. I mean, if Jabba the Hutt can get his own origin movie why can't phil????\
13:28- Phil: "that was quite sexual." Okay Philly
22:30 Phil: "they're to mine the drugs!" Seriously phillo, sex AND drugs? At this rate you'll be on DAPG swearing up a storm you mad lad
Anyway, this whole video gets two thumbs up from this guy!
