Dan & Phil Part 56: Phanthony! at the Disco

The best bit for me was the first one, those ripped jeans do look good on him. The black zipped jeans with the Ghibli top were pretty good, though the dangly straps, zips and even the rips seem too elaborate for him, but I’d love to see him wear any of these things if he likes them. The fringed top immediately made me think of angel wings, also any long-sleeved black top looks amazing on him. The light pigeon-hypnotising top was adorable and the light blue jeans suited him pretty well, need to be tighter, though, some things are too big on him. The white jeans and bright sunshine top were a surprise, he looked like an 80s popstar out of Wham or something, a cool dude posing by the pool. That’s definitely his model outfit.

I wasn’t sold on the rose print jacket, even without the tshirt being too long, but everyone was determined to get him into some roses and ripped jeans. Maybe a different rose-print thing would suit him better, his grey long-sleeved top does. The beanie outfit almost suited him, but even without the shorter jacket, the tshirt was too long and the beanie is such a look and he’s not that slouchy.

I was surprised Dan actually bought a set of pants, though not when Phil refused to model them. I remembered a brand called Clever that had some fun designs like purple with a dragon print on the bum or a similar design in black and grey, but the current designs weren’t so good and I didn’t think Phil would appreciate the suggestion (still, man has a cute butt, ngl).

So many silly outfits, now we know how he might suit some different styles and at least the cheese dress let us perv at his legs, those are nice. I remember seeing a few things in the hashtag, the cami dungarees, fringe top and pink palm tree suit (was it palm trees? Could have been flamingos for all I can remember now). I didn’t like the green and silver outfit at the end either, but I tweeted a similar pair of trousers, so at least now I know what they’d look like on him. If he was comfortable in things, I guess they’d look better. I maintain a dark purple suit would look amazing and I love the blue-and-red bird print jumper I found. I’ll have to save that for another time

It was great to see the slounge again and to see how big it is. I could almost tell which tshirt Dan was wearing in the reflection too, it looked a dull shade of blue (not in a bad way, just not bright), maybe the animal print one he got in Australia, but whatever, he just always looks cute and cuddly in pyjamas. The bants were good too, Dan’s contributions were funny.

The video was a good combination of funny and serious, though i think the "what is this i look weird" reaction was a bit overdone, since some outfits really suited him, and some outfits were a bit repetitive like ripped jeans in different color, but Dan's commentary was funny.

For a tiny split second I was worried he was actually going to go through with the underwear and was prepared to cringe, i like that Dan bought them just to troll him, or maybe to have him model them privately.

It's an interesting concept. I think that Dan sometimes draws more of the attention to him (not necessarily a bad thing, just something I've noticed). It was nice that the focus lay on Phil in this one, and it fit the idea of the video.
(On the other hand, from what I've read, we all spent half the video watching Dan's reflection, so it might not have worked out as planned )

This video is one of my favorite AmazingPhil videos ever. Everything about it, the clothes that were picked (great job Dan), Phil's awkward fashion walks, and Dan's commentary were perfect. I am so happy Dan seemed to take his job seriously! And yes, I did get distracted by Dan's reflection. He's a distracting man!

I'm surprised not to see any bedroom discourse start up from this. I mean, it makes sense for Phil to not film in his tiny room, but it just reminds me how small the room is when he can't film a video standing up in it

I'm so happy Safiya got a shoutout in the video! I feel like I say this every time I post but I LOVE her I seriously want her and Phil to collab sometime.

I also think Phil has been working out but probably mainly cardio. He doesn't look super muscley, but he's definitely leaner than he was. He's also lucky in that he seems naturally quite well built (broad shoulders and some definition in his arms) so if he wanted to he could look relatively ripped quite quickly (can't see him wanting it somehow though!)

My favourite outfit was the white jeans/yellow shirt combo - it really suited him! I can 100% see Dan in the jeans and shoes though, I bet that's why he chose them. I'm also tempted to buy myself the rose jacket!

My only complaint is that a lot of the outfits were quite young - Phil is 30 after all, but some of the outfits seemed like they were trying to dress him like a teenager; I suppose it's just a reflection of what was in the tag though

(I am almost the same age as Phil and I don't think being 30 means you need to put on a twin-set and pearls (or the male equivalent) but I'm talking more about the cut of some of the clothes, the hats and stuff - especially combined with his hair a couple of the outfits made him look like he was desperately trying to relive his glory days in the mid 00's)

As for the pink suit... To me he looks like a school boy on drugs, but it does fit him well and I wouldn't be opposed to it if not for the colors/pattern/maybe the shorts.

Dropping in to say that this video made me cringe and laugh, I'm so glad Phil went through with this in this way. I had low expectations (all strange or all similar types of clothing), so.

Best outfit to me was definitely the yellow-white combo, it both looked really good on him AND like something he would actually wear outside. Opalescent(? ok google if that's the word you want) hoodie was great too...Wasn't a huge fan of the camo, but he didn't look bad in it, just not him, if that makes sense. (also, mismatched socks! Phil, come on now. It's a fashion vid.) Also liked the edgy pants, if you take off the straps at the back (assuming you can), they're just a cool pair of jeans.

You know, the shiny shirt at the end...If you used it as like, a second shirt it would actually be ok with some black jeans, I think. I kinda think he looks good in the color, at least.

If he does another one of these I hope they tilt in a winter direction next time. Fashion is easier when you can layer more, as far as I understand it. (Also, scarves and trenchcoats and well cut jackets would be a great look...)

Well that was a video wasn't it? ngl a lot of it was... not my taste :') And I don't even mean the obvious joke outfits. I was also very disappointed that there was no leather jacket anywhere in this video, like come on Dan get a grip.

Commentary:

- Phil laughing because Dan is being dumb behind the camera reminds me of that incredibly soft ass hidden clip from Super Amazing Project. Not even 30 seconds in and we already find ourselves in a trashcan.
- Just like in the Not Milk Challenge video, Dan is too vain to get in front of a camera in pyjamas.

Definitely. I really, really wish he'd actually been put in some 30 year old appropriate outfits. But I also didn't suggest any so I guess next time I need to put into the world what I really want to see. Loved it!!! Agree with most people about everything - Phil is amazing in ripped jeans, loved seeing his v nice legs, he did seem self-conscious in the clingier shirts (he has nipples that are p present and they often showed which I think might have made him uncomfortable), he needs to keep branching out like this, Safiya shout-out is v nice, etc.

Some things I clocked that I want to share for no apparent reason -

Dan says "get your knees out for the lads" when tossing the ripped jeans at Phil which is probably just a common phrasing but I still did a doubletake, haha.

I liked the black denim rose jacket but I think it's funny that Phil said "it's a bit too Dan" which either means it's a bit too dark moody soft edge or actually means it's too much like Dan's aesthetic and look and he wants to be separate from it specifically, like they want to differentiate their styles more clearly.... haha, definitely overanalyzing, but still.

I love when Phil is pressing his butt against the class and then also right after when he realizes there are no sleeves and how you can see Dan laugh in the reflection! It was just a cute moment.

I love the ring moment and how when Phil gets it stuck, Dan walks towards him and then goes back after it gets unstuck... haha. It was just a cute domestic moment.

I love the bright suit actually even if Phil doesn't, haha. I'm not crazy about a short sleeve blazer but if it was long sleeve, I'd want him to wear it with black pants and a white button down and be a little funky. However, I die at the acknowledgement that the shorts were too tight and he was trying to hide his modesty.

Overall, very fun cute video!!! More content like this please!

Bless his soul, he looked so genuinely uncomfortable in most of the outfits! I have soooo many thoughts on the video ahh it was Too Much for my little heart.

1. If this was my first ever time watching them, I would've assumed 100% that Dan was Phils boyfriend. It had such a Jenna/Julian Safiya/Tyler vibe with one talking to the other who is off camera most of the time. How far they've come

2. Beanie-Phil needs to rise. I thought he looked soooo good in the beanie (at least when he pulled it on all the way, when he first came out it looked silly. Also it would look better without the fringe) and then he didn't like it MY HOPES HAVE BEEN CRUSHED

3. That format worked so well?? I'm sure logistically it's easier to have someone filming but I think having dan to respond to gave the video a much more natural and intimate feel. I think it wouldn't have worked as well if it had just been Phil giving his thoughts in a normal talky video. I mean it would've been fine, but we all know they're better together. I think Dan being behind the camera made him filter himself a little less, so we got some rather enthusiastic comments. Phil seemed totally focused on Dans reactions (he's not even looking at the camera most of the time) so it makes the whole thing seem less...idk like less forced reactions? More genuine interaction between them and less putting on a show for the cameras than I was expecting.

4. Dan squeezing phils arm?? Surely it wasn't necessary to SQUEEZE it

5. Phil looked so awkward and uncomfortable, I don't want to arm chair analyze him, but his body language made it clear that he really didn't feel good in any of the outfits. He just came across very self conscious? Personally I didn't care for any of the outfits (styled differently I think the clothes would look fine) but still...maybe it's knowing people/dan thought they would look good made him feel overly scrutinized or objectified? Maybe is just he doesn't like to be pushed out of his comfort zone, and his style (clothes/hair) is a big part of that? Idk I was just surprised how self conscious he seemed, especially on the ones meant to look good. For such a lighthearted video, I expected him to at least go along with the joke a little bit or try to work it. maybe part of why dan reacted so strongly was to try and make Phil act more confident...I'll stop overanalyzing now.

6. I'm so glad snarky sarcastic dan was lost in the woods and replaced by supportive enthusiastic dan. Makes these types of videos so much nicer.

I just looked at some of the YouTube comments and I have to say I’m a bit disappointed that so many of them are about Dan. This was a great video and it was Phil’s idea and he should get more acknowledgement in my opinion. I feel like it’s one thing to come here or to another board and talk about how we want Dan to do it too or whatever, but I wish he got more attention in the comments on his video which he may look at to see people’s reactions.

I'm so behind with this thread omg, I'm sorry I don't have the time to read all the posts right now, I will try tomorrow. BUT I have to say, this has officially become my favorite phil video of this year and honestly?? also in my top 3 fave videos he's ever made. Top dan and phil content as well, this is a highlight of the year wow, I'm still shook.
Everything was great, the outfits, the bants, dan's commentary, the general domesticity, the extended look at the lounge, the tiny dan and phil stickers (?) on the plant, the vibe of it all. I loved every second and I hadn't laughed so hard in a long time. I've rewatched it four times already and I'm still laughing.
Phil looked super awkward and at one point I was like screaming at the screen the same sentiment that dan also expressed "phil please just do one normal one!", about the struts But that's why we adore him, he literally couldn't take himself seriously and it felt like he was trying to be his most ridicolous self to conceal/overcome embarassment and general discomfort.

I don't know which one was my favorite outfit, but the black ripped jeans looked great on him. I loved the rose jacket as well. And despite not being the biggest fan of white pants in general, I agree that he can pull them off, so I'm down for him wearing them (not that I can see that actually happen though). Not so sure about the yellow shirt though, I agree with him that he looks better with bright or dark colors rather than pastel ones (even though I still remember fondly the pale blue shirt he wore in the pastel edits video, and how good he looked in it). Since I like how he looks in black, I also kinda dig the "bird outfit" lol.
All these outifts did feel a bit "teenager-y" though, I agree.
If he makes this a series or at least makes another one, I'd like him to wear some more classy/smart clothes, like dress pants, button downs, ties, even a suit.
