I'm guessing it's to focus our attention on these.. easy topics, so he has something to talk about in his ls, as Creator Summit anecdotes are already exhausted. (But I'm secretly hoping for a gaming stream instead.)

I am also secretly (or not so secretly) hoping for a gaming stream. Those have been some of my favorite content these days. Does anyone know when the first "phan-prix" they always mentioned happened? They said it was before their gaming channel - was it something for BBC?

My main beef with Dan back then was that I found it ignorant that he seemed to apply Western standards to Japanese media (like twix has said).

I think its very normal to apply our own experiences/knowledge/cultural norms to things when attempting to make sense of various things in the world around us, unless we learn otherwise, which is probably one of the reasons why Dan (and Phil) avoid going too in depth in the live shows (although it would be cool if there was a way to have more deeper discussions because I am genuinely interested in their opinions). I know I have rolled my eyes in the past at Dan discussing American politics, but I can't really blame him for not having a deep understanding of our political system when a large portion of Americans don't have a basic understanding. I don't know how it is in the UK, but in the US we really do not learn about non-Western culture/history/standards in high school, or at least I did not. I've learned more about different cultures from having most of my coworkers be from different parts of the world than I did in the entirety of my education. I generally get the impression that Dan is someone who wants to learn, but unfortunately "show us your chins" is a lot easier to type into chat haha.

I do generally fall into the opinion that it's frustrating when Dan tries to voice/assert an opinion on something and he's not entirely educated on the topic, I think this is actually a great example of what Dan's diss track means. I think it's got to have had some kind of 'don't touch the oven' effect on him mentally, too. A lot of phandom want Dan (and Phil, but that seems more unrealistic) to use their platform but when Dan does try to speak up about something and get it wrong I think the response probably feels so intensely negative and frustrating that he's less and less likely to try again.

Which is actually one reason I'm surprised he's still talking about mental health and defending his 'dark' humor. He has to have seen the criticism, he has to know there are people who get upset that he makes jokes about wanting death, etc, but apparently this is actually a hill he's prepared to die on whether or not people tell him he's problematic for it. And I'm actually okay with that, because I feel like he has a solid perspective and response to people who don't like what he's expressing and how.

So basically: I think when something is important enough to Dan he's still willing to express opinions even if he gets backlash for it. I think the opinions he's unwilling to express are the ones phandom wants him to share more than he himself actually wants to share. (But maybe it's also true that if a topic just isn't that pivotal to his daily life or if he doesn't feel like putting the time into educating himself, he's probably better off not casually sharing a controversial opinion with an audience of millions.)

I love this whole discussion! I definitely agree, especially with the bolded part. This is actually one of the main reasons why I really admire dan, when he expresses a strong opinion on something's he almost always has noticiably thought through it. I admire that so much compared to people with which-washy ideals or who insists on something without having an actual reason.

The difference with the YoI comment is that he was flooded (to an annoying extent) with people asking him about it for like two months, he couldn't not comment on it even tho he said a few times that he wasn't that into it. If ur not a fan of something's you're not going to go seek out more info on it seeing how it's a lighthearted anime, something not usually seen as a deep diversive thing. The queer baiting argument was felt by a lot of people who didn't realize theres a deeper story behind the show--I shared that opinion at first before y'all started tLking about it. I can't blame him for not being more educated on the topic, it's a sports anime, in most cases that doesn't indicate something u need to educate urself on.

When he talks about social or political opinions i can tell he's at least tried to educate himself on, and they're never ignorant opinions. That's why I don't mind stanning him as hard as I do, thats more than a LOT of people in the public eye.

Re problematic things. It might just be my sphere of influence, but I never thought something like his YOI comment couldn't be called problimatic? Discussion-worthy, and uninformed, yes, but I usually researve something as strong as 'problimatic' for truely harmful people or actions, like Felix or Donald trump or Idubz, or racist comments of rape jokes. Idk

Oof, I hope no kids watch that movie that Phil mentioned...I watched it this past weekend and had to turn it off at one point and I consider myself to have a strong stomach. It was really good once I forced myself to watch the whole thing, but I think if a 12 year old watched it, they might have nightmares for a while.

I mean like a paper one, but each picture and certain days have scannable QR codes that link to like vlogs, pictures, boomerangs, skits, bts footage, or whatever. And the codes only become active the day of. They would need to do it all in one go, they could upload stuff to the links throughout the year.

I’ve never seen anyone do this, and I don’t think it’s what they’re doing but omg it would be amazing.

Do you guys think Linda Blacker is shooting the calendar this year? She's always working with YouTubers and shot Zoe and Joe's calendar last year... Those photos would be so pretty! Them not shooting it themselves is a little bittersweet, but I'm actually pretty excited for this!

I'm not typically a merch person - I have no need for a D&P shirt or journal and tbh I don't think my hubby would appreciate a poster of the two of them on our wall in our bedroom

I would however buy the hell outta whatever mug they end up making! I've got such a massive mug collection, my cupboards are seriously overflowing . Like. Just yes please. They've found my one weakness here.

When Phil mentioned the bloopers video, did anyone else think of that one tumblr post where Deppy post a video called "cut that bit out" and it's just bloopers from their videos together where they're being affectionate/ kissing or something? I doubt that will happen, but I'm excited to see the things they usually cut out of videos.

Good discussions going on. I don't want to interrupt, but I wanted to get other people's opinions. What do you all think that dark folded cloth area is?



The person who posted this zoomed in screenshot on Tumblr claimed it was "the balcony" by which I assume they mean the one seen in Dan's university vid, which no... that video clearly shows white tile flooring and we've already figured they have two balconies (the second being off the upstairs kitchen). But it does kind of read as curtains. I'm just wondering what else it could be. And does it look curved to you?

Also, I wrote a long post yesterday that got swallowed up by the void, but to shorten it: I'm just pondering if Dan saying he was all set up *upstairs* to do his liveshow, is him implying the relative position from where he was then (i.e. trying to say his bedroom is downstairs, which I don't believe, see floors and door) or if the "upstairs" was just referring to the lounge's position in the duplex in general and that he just scurried off to the closest private room. I seem to recall him implying once before that his bedroom was downstairs in relation to the lounge, piano nook or kitchen, but I don't remember when.

Just to bring this back, Phil mentioned in his liveshow that while dan was doing his livestream he was "just upstairs" in the lounge. Doesn't this contradict the current idea of floor plan? I'm gonna leave this to the experts but does anybody have new ideas?

Aww it finally went up on YT, that is a cute thumbnail. I was in a weird limbo in having just missed it, but it not being up so I had to watch it on Tumblr and it took 15 mins for me to realize that I had to click the video to get full screen and that's why Phil's head kept being cut off. Then once I enlarged it he looked like Spock.

I still don't like the yellow tee, it reminds me of a buttered popcorn jelly bean. Made even worse by the prayer hands and the words on the back. Glad he kept the black ripped jeans and is giving the white ones to Dan. And while he didn't seem sure about keeping the camo, it did sound like someone assured him he looked really good in them.

Kind of strange they didn't have a gaming vid filmed for this week though. While it does sound like they've been busy, I would have thought they had a Dream Daddy in the can.

Phil said he was upstairs watching Doctor Foster while Dan was doing his livestream and I'm still confused. I might even start buying into the more than two floors theory...

Haha just saw the above. Yeah... if it was *just* the flooring I would probably accept that the master just got the nicer wood, but the door doesn't match the rest of the downstairs...

Hi!!!! Long time lurker here, first time poster. I love this forum, its such a welcome distraction for me so thanks everybody that contributes to it!
I don't want to distract from the LS today which was great btw but saw this while surfing today and thought I'd share. Looks like the Tatinof doc is going to be distributed outside YouTube red. Seems like a big deal for the boys, surprised they haven't brought it up.
