not just them, it seems to be across the board. the little jokes today (and they've made them before, too) about what they'll do 'after youtube' make me feel comforted, not stressed, for some reason. maybe knowing they're self-aware, and they're good businessmen and act on that, usually?
i just came here to yell about the marry them thing! happy yell, slightly confused yell. i'm shocked more people aren't discussing...alittledizzy wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2017 9:03 pm Some very hasty timestamps:
:15 - Phil and the mpreg right out of the gate. "It hurt my than childbirth. And I would know."
1:55 - Phil points out the pigeon mating, they take an interlude to watch.
2:45 - Neither Dan nor Phil see tentacles as a drawback. (Phil jokes about the tentacle under the table.)
3:11 - The tentacles are self-lubricating. Phil thinks that "could be interesting."
3:26 - Dan is gender specific but with Ricky, Phil's "Bro to the end."
3:46 - Ricky can kiss his own butthole.
4:09 - Dan describes Phil as "a very nice, peaceful person" and Ricky is "a violent maniac."
4:44 - Dan saying "we" throughout Phil's scenario; probably means Phil and Ricky, but still amusing.
5:10 - Phil sticks the cards down his shirt.
5:17 - "He have sex, then he snacc." "Dan have snacc." "Can I have snacc?" "We all snacc." So, orgy? Orgy.
8:42 - Dan wants to make steamy love. (Gender neutral)
9:48 - Phil points out that Dan will turn into a furry Dan.
10:26 - Phil's is "x."
11:44 - PJ jokes about it being a penpal. That could move in with you. Dan makes a joke about moving fast, Phil says, "Then you marry them."
12:39 - Phil's 'awww, Dan.' seems so sincere.
on the pronouns - the cards are all worded gender neutrally, right? so the divergence is actually when they gendered them. phil made pj's female, susan, and dan made phil's male, ricky. pj and phil just didn't stray from the card for dan's; thus i don't think we can draw any conclusions about them making a conscious accomodation for one another unless we also want to say that dan was accomodating phil being gay. (i'm not going to go down that rabbit hole).
yeah he latched onto the rectal prolapse part especially, he left it as the last point when listing the traits even though it wasn't in that order when playing the game, so he must have felt it important. i got why - he doesn't find the inclusion of a medical problem (and perhaps the insinuations of why it would happen, if i can join some dots) all that funny, and didn't want to be seen passively laughing at it for comedy. phil's 'aww, dan' felt very genuine in tone and i thought the whole thing was extremely sweet. (i'm with dan, i wouldn't laugh at that in a game, either. good on him, basically).
9.49 - phil: can't text them or he'll turn into a furry dan.
pj: i didnt think this through.
10.05 - dan: wow, every socially awkward furry's end game.
pj: i may have picked the wrong one.
clearly to me pj is aware of dan's furry proclivity. so he didn't quite make sense here, he should want dan to pick his card, and dan's comments weren't negative. maybe he just got a bit flustered thinking about dan in a teddy bear suit. yes, i think i'll go with that.
11.00 - phil: however, that could be like a sexy anime fantasy where they look up at you and go [coyly] s-s-senpai!
dan: i thought this would be quite funny, and there'd be no way to make me feel uncomfortable, but we got there.
THIS was both of their biggest reactions of the whole video - but why? dan was extremely chill and didn't flush or stammer once, despite the topics (highly unusual, in my eyes, but that's a whole other post), and phil saying this one thing got him embarrassed. phil looked so pleased with himself, so delightfully cheeky. they've joked about the senpai thing so many times over the years, dan himself often initiating, so why those reactions, now? the only thing that goes through my mind is it's a kink dan has, and he either consumes the related porn or roleplays these scenarios, but again, doesn't explain why today. it reminded me of a 2015 radioshow moment where phil teased dan after Bitch Better Have My Money played, in that Dan liked Rihanna at the end of that music video (she's naked, lying in a trunk, covered in money and smoking, for the unfamiliar). he got similarly coy and moved on quickly. did he interpret phil as imitating a female anime character in a sexual situation and that triggered an insinuation/memory that dan got blushy over? for all his filthy mouthed unashamed moments over males? intriguing.
agree with all this. I've long stopped reading opinions (i don't even like talking to a friend online who's already seen the video before i've seen it) before viewing, i find i have a much more enjoyable experience, and in turn enjoy comparing my unbiased reaction to other's after the fact.captainspacecoat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2017 1:00 am Overcooked livestream thoughts - What I have learned is that I need to stop reading people's responses to their videos before I actually watch the video, because I was so wary of them being in a stressed/tense mood that I was tentative to watch the video. I actually really enjoyed it, and didn't pick up on tense vibes at all. The game itself was stressful (I felt that those levels seemed more difficult than the previous ones they've played), so naturally they were stressed while playing, but to me that added to the immersion of the video and got me hooked. Admittedly, I didn't watch live so maybe the tension was less noticeable watching it back than it was when they were live, but I am confused as to how people are interpreting the stress/tension as related to Dan and Phil rather than as related to the game itself. Anyway, I thought it was great, 8/10.
having said that, fans finding dan irritating is perfectly valid. i definitely do at other times. however i didn't find dan out of the ordinary today, at all - what i did notice was phil asking him to calm down, which he doesn't usually. collectively everyone has hit the nail on the head - dan yells because he's frustrated with phil not thinking and acting as fast as himself (we know dan's internal reactions are just 0.25 faster than a normal person's, i often think that's the reason for his word flubs), and phil further freezes in reaction.
i think what we saw today was phil hitting a point where he's frustrated, but also perhaps concerned from reading fan opinion that people are irritated by their content when dan screams. he mentioned earphone users in the last few days on another occasion. phil is within his rights to express himself, he's not a robot and they're not a perfect couple, there's no such thing. but funnily enough i think commenting doesn't help, either - dan naturally calms down when the game starts going better, and phil in turn does better because dan is calmer. when they raise the problem with each other after an initial stressful patch, it seems to set off a loop, that the fans then feed into by commenting dan is hurting their ears. it's like a catch 22 of people noticing afresh what has always been a dynamic with them (going back to 2010 gaming vids).
