It was a fine video, but... I'm bitter and petty because it wasn't a DITL. I bought a ticket for Introspective Idiots and this is how they repay me? Yeah, sharing food and Dan feeding Phil with the chopsticks was mad cute and all but I still hate them.
Commentary:
- #SPON because Phil wants to make the most of out the festive month of capitalism. Also this is the third video in a row on AP with Dan in it because it's basically a collab channel.
- What's the point of Dan in a sera fuku if we don't get to see him in the skirt??
- That bento box is so cute I want it
- A few years ago I saw Lunchables for the first time in a picture on Tumblr and I've been disgusted with the concept of it ever since.
- "It barely counts as cheese." It barely counts as food in general.
- The satsuma seems to kinda be the best part of this nasty lunch though...
- 30 year old can't get straw into a drink carton.
- Blackcurrant is a great flavour, Ribena is probably the second least awful thing in this lunch if it tastes like the blander and non fizzy version of Cassis that I imagine it to be.
- "Alright, rich kid." Dan educating Phil on his upper middle class privilege.
- That's a really fancy bento... most people don't actually do all the super cutesy stuff every day.
- My eye starts twitching whenever I hear Phil say something about pancakes and IHOP.
- That bento would need more rice for me tbh?
- I know that Dan knew fully well what he was doing when he was feeding Phil but fuck it, I'm into it anyway.
- A flashback to their
honeymoon holiday.
- I actually have an empty bottle of Pokémon ramune sitting on my book. I don't even like ramune, I bought it for the Pokémon because I'm a responsible adult.
- A lot of Dutch food is ugly and bland as hell BUT we don't have Lunchables so I'd like to kinda be excluded from that Western lunch culture Mr. Howell. I ate proper bread and fruit... an some sugary cookie marketed at school kids at 10 o' clock snack time but these days schools are slowly banning them.
- How many times have they recommended Food Wars and My Hero Academia by now??
I don't see trying foods from other cultures as cultural appropriation tbh? Of course Japanese people could have different thoughts on that. I guess it might bother people that they make money from the video so it's different than 'normal' people trying it, but if that's the problem you gotta cancel the entire culinary side of YouTube.

It was also kind of nostalgic as someone who majored in Japanese and lived in Japan for half a year. I can also confirm that most bento boxes look nothing like that in Japan

this made me want to get a proper bento though, why do I live in a small Dutch town with incredibly limited access to Japanese food at all
Gotta love some 'sushi' from the frozen food aisle at Jumbo right? *vomit*
