Choose your own adventure! Omg. Okay, based on the limited information available, that kind of makes the most sense. It would be a “different” show each night in that the different audiences will choose different paths and outcomes, but will all still have the same array of choices so it isn’t entirely improv every show. So D&P mostly know what they’re in for and the audience chooses what they do (like the fanfic segment of tatinof but for the whole show). And people who have been thinking there could be an app involved, maybe that’s all it would be? Just a multiple choice thing to get Dan and Phil to do x or talk about y (or whatever the game show/Hunger Games elements may be ..like murder). Still confused but intrigued.. and still contemplating a bank robbery so I can go, don’t tell anyone.

(If this is a déjà vu conversation, sorry! I forget what the conversation around the app possibilities has been already since I wasn’t really on board with the idea being an actual thing before this liveshow lol)
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

I don’t think there was much talk of an app, I remember cos I was one who mentioned it. I wasn’t sure how it would be locked down to just the audience at each show, but maybe? I don’t know what other tech there is that they might be using. The old Who Wants to be a Millionaire handheld devices are one thing, some tv shows use cards or paddles which seems even more clunky for a show on this scale, or there’s the good old-fashioned screaming, we all need to do and hear more of that

I think it's gonna be PINOF-style input meets Dan vs. Phil (hence the "game show" stage design) with DAPG banter. I feel like DAPG has been their "trial platform" for a while now - learning how to just roll with weird things instead of editing it out.

edit: by PINOF-style input I mean audience questions/requests/challenges

I think Markiplier has paddles? An app that only works if you are in a certain location would be an option, but that also sounds like a lot of work + you need to provide wifi so everyone can use it, and even then, it's limited to people with phones. I'd love some live interaction (even if it's mediated in some way), though I could also see them taking input online before the show.

Since we haven't gotten the promised three-hour-warning for a Phil liveshow, I'm assuming that we'll be getting a gaming video later!
Also, I have nothing substantial to add on how the tour is gonna be interactive, but I'm loving reading everyone else's ideas right now :thumb:

sadly, i think Phil's liveshows will be pretty hit or miss- he doesn't seem to have the same desire to talk to his fans like Dan does.

@20:22 "We're gonna have this skeleton of this show that asks big questions about 'who are Dan and Phil? who are their audience? what's their relationship? what does it mean to give the people what they want, what is the relationship between a performer and their audience? what would happen if you just gave people total control'."

He keeps using that phrase and while i'm sure they would't really give the audience complete control, i can't help wondering how far they are willing to take this and how they will set boundaries because we can all imagine how it will go if the phandom is given free rein.
He also said 'get involved beforehand ' so I think it'll just be like collecting prompts (for.. whatever.. they're doing) or suggestions(?) before the show, and filtering out the more terrible things we all know they'd get because people are, on the whole, garbage monsters who can't be trusted.
coffeepenguin wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2018 11:59 am I really hope that's just his usual way of over-hyping things and it's not the central theme of the show. Or if it is, they'll handle it well.
Yeah, they're too control-freakish to not be .. in control lmao. Or to keep the element of surprise, without anything offensive or line-crossing, their tour crew/staff will filter the fan-submitted stuff for them before the shows, so everything is still a surprise, just not a horrible one. Because the alternative.. I mean.. they're not that stupid.. right..?
coffeepenguin wrote: Wed Feb 21, 2018 11:59 amI mean, I believe in them and stuff, but TATINOF was already somewhat about that and I will forever judge them for the fanfiction section whatever their intention was.
(ง'̀-'́)ง
As Dan & Phil have never asked "the people" what they want, yet keep saying the tour is "giving the people what they want"...I'm guessing from that, and the volume of mentions of it, that it's going to be a pretty core part of the show.

I thought Dan's use of the word 'performer' was interesting, juxtaposed with the previous references to 'real Dan and Phil' during the tour. Mix that with his description of the set - "it's like something from the Hunger Games meets a game show" - and I think I'm beginning to get a feel for where this could possibly all be going.

Initially Dan's live show questions were giving me slight 'The Death of the Author' vibes....then that last question brought it crashing down to Puppets & Puppet-Masters, which honestly makes me want to immediately sell my tickets and run in the other direction. But anyway. I agree they're not stupid and know exactly what a truly open forum would (sadly) bring to their yard, so part of me feels I should just have faith but it's reassuring to hear I'm not alone in the TATINOF flashbacks and concerns. (I'm just thankful I'm not going to the first show so can gauge reaction first).
These are super interesting observations to me, thank you, especially the bolded par about the difference between "real" D&P and "performer"! Not gonna lie, I kinda like the idea of a Dark Circus if it really comes to that, and now I'm even more intrigued, damn you Dan for knowing all too well how to hype things for your audience

On the criticism over not enough information about the tour, I wasn't there for the TATINOF either, but it seems to me that it's sort of standard practice? For example, if we're talking about stand up comedians, you don't really know what it will be about until they start promoing it and reciting bits on TV, but only small bits. And even with the music, you might buy the album beforehand, but even then you don't know the set list and the arrangement before the tour starts. I understand wanting to be reassured when you're going to spend money on something, but with any kind of performing arts, if it's a new piece, you really have to just take a leap on faith and maybe rely on the reputation

Hm, I'm not sure about an app for the reasons named above and also because people are usually told to turn their phone off or put it away during shows as it could be distracting otherwise and it prevents people from filming the show. You'd also need enough space on your phone and battery. At my university we do use an audience response system with keypads but that might be a bit expensive as they would need thousands of those things and people might misplace them or take them with them accidentally or on purpose. Paddles are possible but would be kinda difficult to count and screaming would just be incredibly annoying. I don't have a clue as to what they plan on doing

I see that Phil recognizes normal sized glasses as adequate for eavesdropping, even if he doesn't for actually drinking out of.

This is the best thing ever. Phil's face has me dying. Dan is a full liar if he's saying he has never done the same thing before!

Loving the domestic back and forth. I’m 100% with Phil, if someone is audibly arguing I’m gonna be rubbernecking the shit out of that

I agree with Phil, listening to other people's arguments is pretty interesting. I definitely would've been tempted in his position, it's like watching free TV (or radio, considering he can't hear them).

In any case, this type of banter is beyond adorable. I love it. :love1:

I'm with Phil. I have definitely eavesdropped on neighbors fighting in the hallway before. I hate to be "that" person, but did anyone else find his use of pronouns a bit odd? "My neighbours are arguing..." why not "Our neighbors are arguing..."? Could this be more evidence in support of the 2 flat theory? :sherlock:

Both flats are filled with shared possessions, two of them being Phil's straightener and mirror in Dan's moon room and Dan was clearly in the same exact room taking those pucd .. I'd say even if the two flat theory is true why would a "my" instead of our mean anything?

Since I am always late to literally everything, I only watched the ls today.
I have a weird thing: I almost never watch them actually live, as I get a bit nervous for some reason knowing it's what's happenning at this exact moment. I prefer to watch knowing the liveshow has already ended. I also tend to pause them a lot, and a one hour video can turn into two or even three hours of watching for me.

What Dan said about shaming people who listen to the soundtracks before seeing the show infuriated me. Hamilton is not performed where I live, and I'm still a teenager. I can't afford going to the first world countries to watch a musical with hundreds of dollars worth tickets. There is no official recording that I could buy online to watch in high quality and pay for all the effort and soul that went into its production. Don't I have the right to see it? Should I wait years until there is a slight chance of me being able to afford it? Yes, I have watched the bootleg and listened to the soundtrack, and I refuse to be shamed for it. I'm a huge Hamilton fan, and I would be the first one to run to the musical theatre, if I could. It's actually one of my dearest dreams to see things like Hamilton and Les Mis on stage one day. And even if I lived somewhere where they are performed, is it really a good advice to go into the show completely blind? Imo, someone who actually knows what's it about and is invested would get much more pleasure (and heartbreak) from it than the casual viewer.
Forgive me my anger, his words just scratched a sensitive topic.

from what i've seen, phil just uses "my" to refer to pretty much anything he has even partial possession of. i don't have timestamps or anything, but i think i remember several times when he referred to the old london flat as "my house," and there was definitely only one of those. so i don't find it suspicious, just a weird lexical quirk of phil's.

I took too long to understand what this meant lol. Do you mean him saying "my neighbours" instead of "ours" indicates their (theoretical) 2 flat set up is separate enough that he considers one his and Dan considers the other his, to the point where they consider their neighbours separately? Hmm I think that specific version of the 2 flat theory doesn't have much going for it yet so yes sure let's throw it on the pile.

I too have listened to neighbours argue with a glass pressed against the door, even though I'm not sure the glass even helped..? Either way, I support Phil's nosiness, especially since their neighbours all have to listen to them shrieking at all hours of the night.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me
