Tuning in to repost this wonderfulness, easily one of my favorite parts

I don't have much to add besides the fact that, for me, a 30 minute-long video is a treat because we get a fuller picture into their way of interacting with each other. It also feels more like you're having a chat with two relatable friends rather than being presented with neatly packaged 5 minutes.

And tbh, I'm always a bit perplexed at all this persona talk. Of course they show us only certain personality aspects/opinions/etc they're comfortable with but imo Dan with his big mouth (for example), seems the kind of person who could easily drop something outside of this giant conspiracy script (especially in collabs). Phil's definitely more careful in crafting an image but I totally agree that those are just some amplified characteristics they already possess in abundance. (Don't get me wrong, I can totally see the Slytherin part haha ) The "loudness" aspect of dinof to me seems to be just the way he is, kind of? You can clearly see that he's an awkward person and as someone who really is one, I just think he's overcompensating sometimes. And for the most part, he's always been like that, it's normal to have become more confident though.

On a stupider note, yay left side!

I'm with you on this, because that's what I heard as well. She was agreeing with him, so this time it appeared that his story was true and not embellished.
That's what I heard too - I was surprised to read that other people thought it was the opposite!

Re: paying for meals, I agree with everyone. I was very surprised that she had to pay. In my experience, if the meal is to celebrate someone their meal is either paid for by the person who organized it, or is split between the other guests (or at the very least partially paid for by the others if it's too much for people's budgets). That's what I've done with every 'birthday dinner' I've ever done with friends or coworkers. I would've been very annoyed.

I was definitely surprised that they brought up any of the financial side of it, though, since as phamnotof mentioned, youtubers so rarely will bring that up. And as much as I thought the specifics of this were odd, it's always nice to see the finances acknowledged to some degree.

idk, if you're rich, then I see it as even more reason to pay for the person you're surprising. I mean, maybe it's the fact that I come from a collectivist society, but from what I've seen, the really rich people are even more likely to pay for the thing they organized? idk, the whole surprise thing where you have to pay for yourself seems like a rip off to me.
Yeah I do agree that if you surprise someone you pay I was just thinking more along the lines of if I invited some friends to a catch-up in a reasonably priced restaurant it wouldn't really occur to me to wonder if that was something they could afford so perhaps for people with a lot more money then me it doesn't occur to you when it's a much more expensive restaurant either as it's not as big as deal as it would be to me.

But in all honestly I've never actually heard of the American youtuber who Louise said organised it so I don't really have any idea how successful/rich the organiser is in this case.

Interesting! It never occurred to me that she might be agreeing. I've re-listened to it like five times now and I still hear:

Dan: And we— we did finish, erm, the butter that they gave us—
Louise: Well we didn't eat all the butter but that's by the by!
Dan: Okay.
Louise: It was delicious.

I saw Dan's "okay" as a concession. Like 'yeah, fine, we didn't actually eat all the butter.'

i assumed they finished the original amount of butter and, like, a considerable amount of the extra butter, since they said it was excessive? an exaggeration, but not that strong?

guys from trip advisor here are the butter nipples:

and the person that posted those pictures posted that as main (assuming she took the same menu as them, they had beef with pan-fried fois gras on top)

also off-topic but I find it funny there are spelling mistakes in the menu on the restaurant website. That's kind of funny for a restaurant that has a michelin star

sorry, are you implying D&P (and co) ordered the fois gras when you said "they had beef with pan-fried fois gras"? Or just that the restaurant ("they") had it as one of their options for the main for that particular menu?

If the first (or even the latter, if they did end up ordering it), and this is purely speculative, maybe that's why they didn't mention what they ate, as fois gras is a bit controversial.
if we could nail down that they ordered it i would even put it in the political comment thread

If my friends took me to a fancy place like that, I would not want them to buy it for me. It wasn't her actual birthday just a catch up so maybe that is was Louise didn't expect them to pay. She offered to pay her sisters even if it was just Zizis so she never expected anyone to pay for hers.

Usually you say that if you did do something and trying to play it off.

tbh I would have eaten all the butter too if I was paying those prices

I am saying that the person who posted the picture of the velouté also posted her main course which was the beef with fois-gras. So if we assume it's a set menu (that apparently changes every month at that restaurant) and that she had the same set menu as them, they probably also had the the beef as main dish. Or maybe there were several options in the menu and they chose something different. idk. But I am pretty sure they had the same set menu because the girl who posted the pics also had the soufflé in dessert, the one that Caihley had
ahah tweet Louise, spam her asking what they had to be sure :)

thanks for the clarification! :)

I found the trip advisor reviewer that posted the photos, and she said that her and her date ordered different starters but that they both had fillet of beef, so it seemed to be a selection out of at least two choices, so unfortunately I don't think we can say definitively that Dan, Phil, Louise and/or everyone else ate foie gras. Still, it would explain why they didn't mention it if that is what they selected...

Liked the collab with the 3 of them, but didn't love it.
It didn't feel like a 4 months wait vid tbh so I feel slightly disappointed.
I'm not sure if it's the format what I didn't like or that it wasn't really funny, I kinda expected the most hilarious collab ever but it was pleasant to watch, not just extremely funny imo.
I also agree that Phil's style didn't go that well with them, he's just not one to jump in in a conversation so it felt kinda awkward to watch him trying to talk.
The massage bit was my favourite tho.

I do have to say I liked Dan's collab with Louise more, but I also agree that it should have been much shorter. I watched half of it yesterday, then fall asleep and watched the other half today. They could've cut off a lot of it. Kinda sad they haven't seen each other as much to have more stories together, the first awkward stories vid was really great. It does make me thing this dinner was just an estrategic gathering to get some collabs planned, like all of them have made vids together since that dinner.

I find it odd that Phil hasn't RT Louise's tweet :?

i am so annoyed that we don't know if they took the menu at 75£ or the one at 110£ :(
because if it's the one at 110£ there are only two choices for each dish. One meat and one fish. And Dan doesn't really like fish that much but likes beef in his mouth.

I haaaaaate that with the two of them together, please stop.

About Dan getting louder, he definitely has. He's a lot more screech-y than a year or two ago. Both him and Phil have commented on it too - Phil complaining about Dan's loudness in some videos, Dan literally saying in one liveshow something like "when you're trying too hard to be funny and you just end up screaming". I personally find it really off-putting.

I really liked Dan and Louise's video, though. Which was a bit of a surprise because (unpopular opinion time) I don't like their last awkward moments video together. Mostly because of Louise because I don't find her to be a good storyteller at all - too much sputtering. Overall the 2014 video just came across to me as two people trying to retell funny anecdotes that happened to them, without actually managing to make it funny for the people listening. I liked this new video a lot better. Louise is still a terrible storyteller (sorry Louise) but I like that they got to take their time with it and at least Dan retold some parts in a way that really made me laugh, like the alpha male part (such honest self depreciation, no need to play it up at all ) and Phil ordering the flowery drink when Dean had a lager - "it's just who we are, guys!" Indeed.

Btw the first time Phil introduced that house plant in the NWW I thought it was hilarious because I read it as him making fun of himself and his tendency to do so when things get uncomfortable - am I the only one who read him this way?
litteronthebreeze wrote:Can anyone confirm if it was Galvin at Windows? (http://www.galvinatwindows.com) from the instas at the time I thought it was and their description of the place fit too.
It was. Hazel tagged it in her Instagram picture that day.

Also Dan and Phil have been to Galvin at Windows before with Wirrony.

I think we'll hear about Dan being there once they're actually doing tour bus prep and tech rehearsals, and he just won't mention one way or the other where he was the days leading up to it until enough time has passed that it's not going to be a big deal to anyone.

I would love it if someone spotted them out but I have a feeling even Martyn's picture of Gatorland is probably delayed long enough that no nosy Florida fans could pop in while they're potentially still there. And I don't think Dan and Phil run nearly the risk of just being spotted and recognized out in Florida, so Dan could be doing things with them and I think it's realistic that we'd never know. They're far, far from household names or recognizable faces for most people in the US.

Hmm. Maybe they are going together... ?

Personally I think Dan is already in Florida and I wish he'd say so. It's not weird to hang out with people before starting the tour, no need to be cagey about it. But as usual, who knows.
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

trashqueen - i am in love with your signature, it's so cute

lilmango - i hope you had a nice birthday yesterday.

i fell asleep really early last night and woke up to find a 30 minute dinof video. hmm, i have an unpopular opinion, but i didn't think it was as great as the rest of you. i certainly didnt sit there laughing that much and although i appreciated the story and i love dan and louise together, i just got kinda bored of them saying how #awkward they are for 30 minutes. also that mark on the camera that shows up on dans chest the whole video is annoyiiiiing and i couldnt stop looking at it. i like that he made a 30 minute video though, 30 minutes of dan and louise is never really that bad, they really bounce off each other, i wish they would collab more.

i have watched the nww collab though about 20x and i really really like that video.
i just love it when dan licks his lips (& he does it a lot), so much so i made a little gif of it.
Image

i am so looking forwards to the tour kicking off, only another 6 days. i really hope they document their road trip across america and then upload an hour long video of them on the bus, in random places, and lots of tour footage.
