Ooh, thanks for the name. I just read up on it a bit, and I'm intrigued to see how it turns out. A decentralized crypto currency could drive away a bunch of people that would normally pay out money for bars on YouNow due to not understanding the system, but D+P fans are likely to follow them over to a new app, which would be good for them getting a large share of the currency. It's an interesting tech model.

Some more musing on Phil’s diss track from a self awareness, how he does YouTube, business stand point.

So after listening to Phil “rap” about I dozen times (rip me) I’ve got some feelings. Originally when we heard little snippets we assumed that Phil was saying that “you/we” *the audience* was only here because we ship phan (pretty true), but as the diss track is about Phil, the *you* is *him*. He is only up on that stage because we ship phan, has only come this far, been this popular, because of the shipping. This coupled with the line about being in Dan’s shadow... I know it is all in good humor, but I feel there is a bit of truth. Dan rose to popularity in 2012 because of his video content, surpassing Phil. But Phil has stayed relevant because of their relationship/chemistry/collabs. It’s a interesting balance. Dan doesn’t have to include fan servicey videos if it’s clashes with his quality threshold. And yes, Phil can make fun little story time videos or make a slime video because he feels like it, but the most popular videos on his channel are his collabs with Dan. And he’s aware of that and at some point he/they chose that from a business/career stand point and that fascinates me. Like obviously they decided on the joint branding with TABINOF/TATINOF and continue with this tour, but just on their individual channels, like they really did decide that AmazingPhil would be used as a joint channel. And they both benefit from this. I know some people feel sad about the in Dan’s shadow line, or a bit guilty about the shipping bit (dizzy had a great response to this on Tumblr here: http://alittledizzy.tumblr.com/post/173 ... bc-we-ship ) but I’m just kind of in awe that he went there and his self awareness/comfort with it and what it means/has meant for a long time. I read up on Rize, younow, and the whole cryptocurrency thing and I'm curious to see how it'll hold up next to the behemoth that is YouTube but really I had to roll my eyes a bit - leave it to our reliable Capita£ester and Daniel How€alth to hop aboard that money train (though actually I fully support them their investments and being smart business men - buy all the Allsaints and Vetements my good sirs! )

It's hard to even put words to why that insta story from Dan is so endearing. I saw "ty bb ly" and my heart did a weird melting thing, what are these human emotions, how do I return them, I want my money back. I'm glad they made it through the day unscathed (even if the same maybe can't be said for poor Marianne) and I'm glad they're so excited for this tour and I'm so damn glad we get the instagram updates so we can feel that all the more clearly.

just got back into my dorm and it's 1am so obviously instead of sleeping i need to ramble my thoughts on a forum

i honestly love this show. i'm a media, culture, and communication major so the way in which they got fans to buy tickets to a two hour show analyzing What Dan And Phil Is and What It Means To Be A Phan vs A Fan and How Do Dan And Phil See Their Fans is absolutely amazing to me. i so desperately want to write a paper about this and interview them for it ughhhhh. dan started talking about the concept of fandom at one point and i have never been more interested in the words coming out of his mouth than i was in that exact moment bc that is: my shit.

difference wise, it was nice to see that the show personalization is legitimate. not that i doubted they would actually use the stuff from the website, but it was still nice to see.

still got the feeling this is a beginning of the end tour but more a beginning of the end of Dan And Phil instead of dan and phil. using the tour as a way to ease fans into the possibilities of solo projects.

also i uhm voice memo'd the show for posterity. don't think i'll be posting it anywhere but if people want and it's not absolute trash when i go through it...

I don’t think they’ll pull the plug on the whole YouTube thing and just quietly fade away—but, I do think they’ve been laying groundwork for a diversified income stream that is not so heavily reliant on the D&P brand or video making. My head-canon is to get through the tour, maybe Dan will drop his June video along the way and it will actually be about sexuality, and after the tour, drop PINOF10 that is more like a celebration and culmination of everything that includes bloopers from past videos that reveal they are a couple. Announce forever home. Get a dog. And focus more on expanding IRL for other creators, maybe move into producing other stageshows, continue developing apps, games, clothes that aren’t solidly D&P.

Knowing Dan it was either meant to have multi-purpose meaning or he meant it specifically for Phil but with the full understanding that it was ambiguous enough that no one would be able to say it was without a horde of people tromping in to immediately argue no way, of course not, not a chance, you're delusional for even considering it. agreed. i dont have a communications major but i love analyzing things just for funsies. as someone who grew up jumping from one fandom to another, its definitely an interesting thing to discuss. i feel like the most recent hot take on creator vs fandom discussions is quite relevant to this: "how much or little do creators have to share with the fans?"

before, fans are used to having little to no contact with the creators they look up to because back then, internet was still in its infancy. as a result, most older fans are either more laid back or desensitized in a "ive seen EVERYTHING. whats new?" kinda way. however, now its pretty much accessible to anyone. ive seen so much discourse in recent fandoms ranging from fans sending death threats to a voice actor's wife and family for not making their ships canon and fans complaining to the creators for apparently making a "thing" despite the "thing" being a popular headcanon and not a part of the show at all, unless the creator eventually decides to put it in the show itself. both are VERY REAL THINGS ive seen in other fandoms. and the equation almost always is like this "BIG FANDOM = BIG DRAMA".

anyways, this reminds me of a thing i had retweeted a while ago:

it walks you through the process of how influence works its way through groups of people and the positive and negative things that can come out of it. its simple and interactive. though i did have to learn psychology for my career, i only know the basics, so this is really interesting to me. sometimes i like to joke that im like an old bean (thought im only like, 24? what the heckie) but i see a difference in how i used to view fandoms and how i view it now. there is definitely a power struggle happening between creators and fans and its really painful to watch sometimes because the most immature and chaotic are usually the loudest. im a daycare teacher who takes care of babies, i see no difference honestly. there has to be a balance of power. i have to acknowledge that i cannot control all the babies, i can only influence their behaviour but at the same time, these dang babies need to understand that whining and crocodile tears wont change the fact that i still need to change their poopy diaper. anyways, im going off-track....

tldr; you should definitely write that paper and you should definitely interview dippy and pippy about it.
