1: Phil's merch says 'phil' on it in wingdings!!
2: Dan was SO SOFT AND FOND talking about his birthday and the candle! That entire exchange was so adorable and I weirdly teared up a little.
Bonus: Dan praising Janelle Monae. Yaas Queen

honestly, im not surprised but im not disappointed. hes being pretty transparent with us, especially with how he was wanting affirmance from us that the trailer is well edited (whenever it comes out). dans always been a perfectionist so im not surprised hed push back "the june (now probably september) video" later in the year in favour of just how the theme flows. it DOES make a lot more sense for the trailer to be the next one on the pipeline since they have been talking about the tour in his last video. then he said something about possibly filming something quick and easy for now since they are back home and wont be for a while. i feel like its not that hes "indifferent" about it, its more of him taking charge over his creative flow. im speaking as someone who draws and had been posting my art on the internet for years, it took me a while to get out of the "i NEED to draw because thats what everybody expects from me and i feel like im a failure if i dont" mentality. to me, it seems like dans just not letting that kind of mentality win over him because if you let it, itll just make you hate whatever you made thinking that its not good enough. im waffling but i hope im not alone with this opinion (anyone writing fanfics or drawing fanarts out there? whats your thoughts?)dancy wrote: Thu Jun 21, 2018 12:00 pm I gotta say, I was rather surprised to hear Dan saying he's been working hard on the trailer, considering it seemed like Mark had been busy editing it a little over a month ago. Not gonna lie, I'm a bit disappointed that's gonna be the next DINOF video and that he hasn't started working on another one yet. Not disappointed in Dan, just kind of in general because I was really hoping for a nice solo Dan video soon and while I'm curious to see the trailer, it's not really targeted at me since I've already seen the show. Idk he spoke about his channel in quite a nonchalant way, saying there were videos he wanted to film and he doesn't know whether he'll do them now or when he gets back from the tour in September. And then he said he'll try to film something while he's home and upload it in the next couple weeks and do some idea shuffling. I understand the tour is his priority now but it sounds as if he's become a bit indifferent towards his channel with everything being up in the air like this and seemingly not going through with whatever idea he had for the "June video". I think during the liveshow he said he'd upload it Friday.ratlad wrote: Thu Jun 21, 2018 11:33 am today is a perfect day to upload the trailer... please dan.
then 2 days later they can upload a gaming vid.... please.
Not saying I disagree, Dan and Phil are self employed and have complete control over what they do. If Dan wants to film a video every two months so be it, they're still swimming in money anyway and will be for a long while, even if their videos are getting less views than they used to. But I think there's a difference between having a creative hobby and having a creative job. I do understand you, I used to write a lot when I was a teenager (not fanfic, but still) but I gradually stopped and now it's been almost a decade since I last wrote. For us plebs who are not rich af and self employed, there are different rules for jobs and hobbies. Sometimes I don't feel like doing my job, and while much less creative than Dan's, it still involves a bit of creativity. I'm just waffling and this is not criticism, plus I know they're on tour and all, and we're still getting videos, but deep deep down I feel we're cutting him too much slack.ame wrote: Thu Jun 21, 2018 1:03 pmhonestly, im not surprised but im not disappointed. hes being pretty transparent with us, especially with how he was wanting affirmance from us that the trailer is well edited (whenever it comes out). dans always been a perfectionist so im not surprised hed push back "the june (now probably september) video" later in the year in favour of just how the theme flows. it DOES make a lot more sense for the trailer to be the next one on the pipeline since they have been talking about the tour in his last video. then he said something about possibly filming something quick and easy for now since they are back home and wont be for a while. i feel like its not that hes "indifferent" about it, its more of him taking charge over his creative flow. im speaking as someone who draws and had been posting my art on the internet for years, it took me a while to get out of the "i NEED to draw because thats what everybody expects from me and i feel like im a failure if i dont" mentality. to me, it seems like dans just not letting that kind of mentality win over him because if you let it, itll just make you hate whatever you made thinking that its not good enough. im waffling but i hope im not alone with this opinion (anyone writing fanfics or drawing fanarts out there? whats your thoughts?)dancy wrote: Thu Jun 21, 2018 12:00 pm I gotta say, I was rather surprised to hear Dan saying he's been working hard on the trailer, considering it seemed like Mark had been busy editing it a little over a month ago. tbh, i think the fact that phil is there helps a lot because they can easily do damage control and help each other out in a casual manner, also they just bring each others mood up tbh. ive always like joint ls cz the atmosphere is a lot happier.

I think that's an interesting looking at it, but I also think you have to make a delineation between 'it's his job' and 'it's his job, and he's self employed.' If someone loves art and is a professional artist, then they can actually choose to stop focusing on one project and instead focus on another. A professional published writer can actually have multiple novels in progress and choose to backburner one of them for lack of inspiration. If he were a video creator or editor who worked for a company and was paid a wage, he'd be bound to the same responsibilities as you or I - but he's not. Instead of a commission or service-based job where someone is paying him specifically to do or create a certain thing, the way Dan's career is set up is that he gets to do what he wants and gets paid for whatever he puts out.annetamiau wrote: Thu Jun 21, 2018 2:07 pmNot saying I disagree, Dan and Phil are self employed and have complete control over what they do. And to some extent the market (us) can decide if we approve of this or not, by choosing to care/watch or not care/watch when he does post - but to date, people do still reward him when he does post. He's one of a not-high number of youtubers that hit their peak of popularity the same time Dan did and still easily pull 40-50% of their subscriber count in views every time they post.
Same tbh. Yes, they're on tour and yes, they're probably handling who knows what behind the scenes, but videos are what the world outside sees. So maybe Dan should shift his focus more towards the actual dinofs.annetamiau wrote: Thu Jun 21, 2018 2:07 pm I know they're on tour and all, and we're still getting videos, but deep deep down I feel we're cutting him too much slack.
I'm referring to the attitude we (the fans) have towards the fact that he's uploaded three times this year (on his main channel), if that makes sense. At the end of the day he's a successful, self employed businessman and he can do what he wants, but uploading three videos in almost seven months isn't the norm for a professional youtuber.watsonian wrote: Thu Jun 21, 2018 3:00 pm I'd like to express my concern that Dan can apparently say "I just showed you my danussy" and we, collectively as a fandom, respond PHIL MERCH HI DAN PAINT YOUR NAILS

Honestly, these two men manage to be the cutest and also the crudest entertainers I've ever loved.
I tentatively disagree that we're cutting Dan too much slack. What it would look like to cut him less slack? More daily requests for dinofs? A twitter campaign? Because it seems to me the more Dan is pressured to do something, the less likely he is to do it.
