I've though for a while now that they are not as close in height like they pretend to be. Although I have never understood why they would lie about something like that, these boys can be a bit strange that way.

Same. I think being the same (very tall) height is part of their 'we look like each other' gimmick with the hair etc.

I think listing Phil at 6"2.9' was a tell-tale he's tangibly shorter cos otherwise they'd have stuck him at 6'3 for the sake of 0.1inches. Radio shows (rip) are a dead giveaway.

I am fascinated by the idea that Dan denies his own physical growth. I'm also fascinated by the idea that Dan wants to look like Phil. The first one has more evidence than the second as far as I can recall but both ideas are very intriguing to me.

That thought has entered my mind and intrigues me as well. Maybe he slouches a lot so he and Phil look more like the same height.
Or maybe his evil plan all along was to look so much like Phil, so he could kill him and take over his identity.

while I think they are trying to make a buck in a fairly honest and straightforward way, they will always have to balance between the strong personal connection that so many fans feel with them (if only because of the vlog format) and capitalizing on that connection.

Indeed. I think it’s a freakishly difficult balance to maintain and honestly I admire their ability to do it well most of the time, with only occasional mess-ups (imo, of course others may judge them more harshly)

Ugh, coming from a place where we measure people’s hight in cm I’m all kinds of confused by the 6"2.9' vs 6'3 vs 6’1’’ discussion. Putting it through the Internet feet/inches to cm converter helps, but not as much as I’d like it to. Whatever, my verdict is that Phil is about 4cm shorter than Dan (convert it for yourselves guys, feel my pain) and in this photo the difference seems greater because Dan is standing closer to the camera

i think they do have quite similar leg lengths, just dan's torso is huge is that the only huge thing oi oi saveloy so it makes him look a lot taller, and as flarequake suggests his hair also gives him height (brb having what's hiding in dan's hair war flashbacks)

Note: This was Playlist 2015, and it wasn't Louise's only infraction around this time - she supposedly also almost outed Tronnor, talked about D&P's "girl box" in their bathroom (which made D&P very confused in a liveshow later on hahaha) and while her marriage with Matt was crumbling around her she liked a Louise/Dan fan fic where the story was Dan comforting her after her marriage had fallen apart. Oh and she had that awkward liveshow phonecall with Dan and Phil, too. <--- I'm thinking Louise might have had a bit of a bad time around this time, is all I'm saying.

It was a year before but Louise actually talked about liking fanfic of her and Dan here @7:10

Just like in her collabs with them recently, I again find it kind of weird how she thinks of Dan (who is apparently quite a close friend of her) in a very sexual way.


for the size thing. They don't look the same size to me even in that DDR video. I think Dan is 6.35 or 6.4 and Phil is 6.25. I don't buy the bad posture argument because its true Phil's posture is terrible but Dan's is equally bad. Like Oqua, I am always intrigued by Dan's reticence to acknowledge his real size and that he has grown so much. But he seems to always have been quite embarrassed with his height downplaying it even in the early days when he was saying stuff like "it's just a normal size because I am a guy and I am 19" or "I am not tall it is that you are short". If he is complexed about it, I admit I think it is a weird complex but who knows.

Re picture: Finally we have a Phil picture. Love Dan's jumper, he looks good in it although the sideway pose is a bit annoying at this point.

Re heights: count me in to the people who need to google how much of cm is Dan and Phil's height. I always thought the 2.9 inch is a joke that Phil want to say that he is almost as tall as Dan but shorter but almost! It is part of their brand will i get a warning if i use size 50?

Excited for new merch video! One thing that I like about their merch is they are made with quality. Part of the height thing is that Dan wears so many weird thick-soled shoes whereas Phil almost always wears those blue converse type ones which are a lot thinner. I think probably they look like they're closer in height in the DDR video because they both have just socks.
The thing I don't get though is, if Dan is so sensitive about his height, why doesn't he make an effort to find thin-soled shoes.

I know we've long since moved past the Phanservice(see what I did thar) debacle, but I feel like I need to add that I still find it worrying/interesting that the reason that most of us don't think Dan and Phil are kind of awful people is because we think Dan was completely or partially lying in 2012. That, in itself, it a bit morally ambiguous, I think. Dan as the terrible closeted lying liar who lies is such a bit part of the Phandom lore, and I honestly wonder if it bothers him at all.
If you are to believe the version of events that Dan himself wanted you to believe, then Dan made up his bisexuality for attention, the flirting/Formspring answers were for attention, and the Voldy video was just a prank to troll the shippers (which is not only rude towards their subscribers, but to their gay and bi friends, of which they had quite a lot.) I also feel like Dan should have at least apologized for some of his homophobic comments back in the day...I doubt he's ever going to bring it up again, because unlike Emma Blackery he knows not to beat a dead horse.

if it turned out Dan was saying the truth in 2012, I don't think I would hold it against him tbh. Yeah he was kinda homophobic or at least very problematic (but still said he supported LGBT which is also paradoxical) and he was aggressive, rude and kind of a jerk but he was also in a bad place, struggle with fame, struggling with his public image, under pressure from a very strong fanbase... he is clearly not like that anymore and very supportive and open minded. So for me, I wouldn't think he is an awful person for his past mistakes.
Maybe i am a bit on my own here but I don't think someone being a jerk/ saying homophobic/racists or whatever shit at one point makes them an awful person for their entire life.
Actually I agree with Dan on his speech about Nash Grier and forgiving people who were ignorant assholes if they change.

What i would have a fucking problem with is him now mentioning male attraction every two seconds if he is queer-baiting. This would really make me think he is an asshole. (but I am safe cause I 100% believe he is queer and with Philou)

During Playlist Live 2015 there was some controversy around the youtuber Sprinkleofglitter, Louise. Most controversy was about the way she is rumoured(!) to have answered a question about phan. There is no video of this, hence rumour, but several people at the time confirmed she answered a question about Dan and Phil's relationship saying: "honestly nobody knows".



^ These are the original tumblr posts that were made about it, that were later backed up by other people. Note that both posts were made by the same person and that the second post was what started the whole "girl box" thing as well (that's the only reason the girl box is relevant to this post).

After Louise supposedly answered the phan question, she went on Tumblr and liked a post where a fan was pleading other fans not to grill Louise over D&P's relationship, because she either doesn't want to break people's hearts if they're just friends, or she "doesn't want them to hate her" if she confirms they are together. Note: This is a fact, she definitely did this. [Original Tumblr link]

Why is this interesting?
1. Phan lol
2. Other friends of D&P's usually avoid the question altogether these days and don't let on that they know some sort of truth. By liking that post Louise did let on she knows something, and that she is in fact uncomfortable getting asked about it. This is true regardless of whether she actually answered that phan question or not.
3. It is also a weird change of stance for Louise, who in 2014 had no trouble denying phan:



The girl box thing

The same girl who reported on Louise answering the phan question also said Louise told them Dan and Phil had a "girl box" in their bathroom - and because it was in a popular Tumblr post, it BLEW UP. The phandom went crazy about the girl box and wanted to know what it was. Lo and behold, one day later the girl actually managed to film herself asking Phil about the girl box and having him confirm it (0:37):

So at least that part of her post was true, ya know. Anyway, that's what the girl box is and that's what the whole Louise phan controversy of Playlist 2015 was all about.

Final notes
In the name of full disclosure, it's worth noting that this wasn't the only controversy/questionable behaviour Louise was involved with around this time:
- During the same Playlist she is also rumoured to have told a fan that Connor Franta was currently dating someone, even though he hadn't made anything public himself.
- Two months later she had a liveshow phonecall with D&P that a lot of people described as awkward and strange [link]
- A few weeks before announcing her separation with Matt she liked a Tumblr fan fic that was about her hooking up with Dan, who comforted her whilst her marriage crumbled [fic link] [screenshot of Louise's like] [Louise talking about it]
- (For those who don't know, Louise's marriage ended in divorce this year and she's said it was a really bad year for her where she lost touch with a lot of friends.)

If he was being completely honest in 2012, I still wouldn't think Dan and Phil are awful people. I don't feel like they owe any apologies; a lot of stuff Dan said was problematic I suppose, but mehhh. What are people classifying as specifically homophobic rather than just overly and unnecessarily hostile/rude? The grandmother/Phil comment? Dicks colliding? Because while I guess it could be homophobic to get so hostile about the idea of people thinking you and a friend are sexually involved, I don't think it was so much 'I'm not fucking a guy, gross' but more so 'I'm not fucking my best friend, gross' and he was just very aggressive in the way he put that across in order to shut down (well hoping to) the speculation.

I don't even want to bother with Voldy because I don't think it was a prank... but if it was, they didn't release it willingly so how can that be held against them? It would have been a shitty prank with very questionable intentions, but hey they decided against doing it. But I can't see it as a prank anyway, so I don't even care to 'defend' it tbh.

He's in a better place now (meaning he's not being a complete dick for no reason anymore) and much more socially aware and sensitive, isn't that apology enough. People grow and mature and I don't see the point in holding regrettable things from their past against them for the rest of time. Especially when they're very obviously making an effort at being better humans (thinking of Dan's comments around the Oscars about the internet being a bubble of people being accepting and more informed etc. and how the 'real world' is comparably awful).

And honestly, I'm sorry, but I want to stab myself in the eye every time I read somebody going (even hypothetically, I know) 'if Dan is lying/(or whatever?) about mentioning male attraction' [he'd suck]. Why the actual fuck would he do that? For the lols? It doesn't even make sense. I want to type more, but. it just. doesn't make. sense. why.

About the height thing.

The Imperial system doesn't really do exact measurements though do they? Two people can be 6.3 or whatever in height but not the same in the (obviously superior) metric system and thus be different heights. That said, even using the Imperial System I don't believe they're the same these. Once upon a time, sure. But Dan has grown since in these last six years, and his shoes and poofy hair add even more height. Plus slightly better posture apparently.

But yeah, if you'd measure them exactly using the metric system, they would definitely be different heights.

(Disclaimer: I did not really pay attention in the class when the Imperial System was explained to me, I don't really understand or use it and I just curse at it when I find a cool recipe that uses cups and tablespoons because I'm too cheap/broke to buy the spoon and cup sets some shops sell. So maybe I'm talking shit I dunno.)
