Dare we hope for an October release? It’s that time of year for me to try not to get upset by phandom math. 2018-2009=9 that’s all I’m saying. But I get it, people like to round up, Dan and Phil included.

Yes but it FEELS like 10 years to them because they secretly hate each other.

In GTPWTW (is this where people are getting they don’t know math from? If not ignore me) Dan actually says, “that’s 10 years, next year.” Meaning 2019 and then phil says, “10 years of knowing you.”

That was one instance that when I first heard it I missed the next year part, but no there was a ls where Dan was talking about an upcoming pinof and he equated the number with the year and then also mistakenly said that they did two in one year (pinof 1 and 2 were only posted only 7 months apart, but then they didn’t post pinof 3 for almost another year and a half. So they’ve done one each calendar year, the spacing just wasn’t always even).

I'm still really curious to see whether Dan will respond in any way to Adrian's yt channel. idk whether he knew about it before but being home, he'll be online more and probably see the videos or instagram or something. I don't expect him to directly address it or anything but maybe he'd like a photo on insta? idk why i care so much abt this but it's interesting

i'm really interested to see what happens along these lines as well. dan's so far radio silence on the topic has intrigued me. i definitely understand why dan wouldn't have wanted to talk about adrian at all before, pretty much never even mentioning he had a brother, but now that adrian's a creator in the same space i think it would actually be a bit odd for dan to never mention it or even interact with his content.

Dan and Phil are also quite cautious with who they publically align themselves with (with that one notable exception I try not to think about). At the moment it’s unclear how Adrian will treat queer fans or how he’ll react to the sudden influx of income and attention. He doesn’t have the years of experience dnp do. When some drama pops up, because it always does, you know Dan doesn’t want people looking to him for explanation.

Besides that, Dan and Phil don’t like people who know them having a substantial and uncontrolled place in the fandom. The focus on Dan ‘breaking up’ with CharlieSkies is rightfully placed on Charlie threatening to out him, but that argument started because Charlie implied he knew the phandom better and was better to them than Dan was. Another instance that comes to mind is Onison, and Dan saying he didn’t want Onison to take advantage of the phandom. Obviously Dan had plenty of other reasons to want to break ties with both those people, but I guess I have a pet theory that it’s more about controlling influencers in their fan base than we give it credit for.

His mum is someone with little online presence and the fully developed social filter of an adult. She’s not going to influence the phandom or create drama Dan then has to deal with. She and his grandmother are also the people he’s mentioned most from his family in the past. If he does want to open up, I think that’s where he’ll do it, or at least start.

But I’m also kind of stuck on whether his family is something he wants to open up about at all, despite the few indications lately that it might be.

In a recent Sims video, Phil asked if Dan reverted to his childhood mindset when he visited home, and Dan’s response was something along the lines ‘I have my own place, I’ve made my own life, don’t send me back.’ Both of those (reverting and distancing) are common reactions, IMO, but Dan’s reaction seemed like a very genuine desire to move on from, rather than explore and open up about, his family experiences. Perhaps he doesn’t want to reminisce or open up much, but just wants to be able to say their names.

@Ataraxia25 it depends on the circumstances right. i have an older sister by 7 years and she hated me to the bone when we were younger. (i remember she once told me how she wrote an essay talking about how insufferable i was) i was a kid so i didnt really know what i was doing, plus i was also kind of a selfish brat so it was justifiable. also, i would be more scared of her than my own parents cz most of the time cz she had that much authority over me.

that said, now that were older and has more life experiences under my belt, weve become a lot closer. i hang out with her more than i do with my own close friends tbh.

i cant say for sure that dan and adrian are the same, but it is a possibility that theyve reached a certain understanding at some point in their lives. or its also totally possible that they were and have stayed not close at all. in the end, we will never know unless one of them opens up about it. im personally leaning more to dan having some sort of protective feelings - going by the infamous "fuck off" vyou answer....or was it a liveshow, i dont remember. he wouldnt want a repeat of that so its viable that he is supporting his little bro behind the scenes. ideally, he would want adrian to be able to stand his own ground and dan staying a low profile for now while his bro builds his own space online might be an active choice that he made to support that.

I've been watching a few clips of big vloggers these last few days out of boredom, and saw some footage from the Paul's (I don't know their names and they don't deserve me opening a tab to find out) stage show.
I have to say it's so nice ! to follow two guys who are rich and popular but still fucking CARE about their work being the best they can give to their audience. Yeah, I know dnp are not the next Mighty Boosh (UK comedy duo, recommend ), but within their range, they always put the effort in, and try to deliver in proportion to what they get from their fans, instead of the least possible, as those other youtubers clearly do. What a breath of wholesome fresh air amongst such an ocean of greedy cynicism. (btw I simply have no time for the old "if they had a normal job they would have to put out videos every single week" bullshit, sorry).

I'm happy the insane travelling schedule is over and I'm looking forward to that movie a lot. A bit sad tho that ig stories means there probably won't be any bts included. Which for me is a shame because I rewatch the making of tatinof every so often, but I've only watched the stage show itself once.

It takes them down a couple of notches from the pedestal. They also almost always look genuinely excited for meet and greets and always make sure to give people the best experience possible. It might sound obvious and something to be expected, but when you look at the Pauls or other people on the other side of that spectrum you get some perspective on how decent deppy really are.

Yesterday I stumbled across a video by Connie Glynn talking about ‘the death of the youtuber’ and she divided the Youtube timeline into three parts, the creative chaos, the personality and the buzzfeed parts. She said all these personalities from the second part have stopped being authentic and relatable because they have become rich and famous and ‘old’. I think she is right for the most part but I have the feeling that DnP, who fall into this category, have stayed as close as possible to what they started out doing compared to others, as in they seem to really care for their audience don’t follow what everyone else is doing. That makes them less ‘trendy’ but in my opinion more relatable than they used to be. I don’t know if I’m saying that because I prefer watching them to other ‘personalities’…

This entire post is fantastic but the bolded line - damn, you're right. That's something I've never really stopped to consider before but I think that's spot on. I'm also guessing that little slip ups or even not slip ups but things that don't align with what they'd want out there (like Cat calling Dan straight) probably cemented their desire to not have it appear that anyone else can speak for them with any authority.

Adrian already had his first time brush with this. A friend of his made a vaguely homophobic comment on his instagram, and Adrian initially joked along with it (some people argue it was sarcasm, but idk man, if it's vague enough that a stranger can't tell your intention maybe sarcasm isn't the way to go) and then when he got backlash from other commenters deleted both his friends remarks, his own reply, any comments on the ig post referencing it, and according to someone else unfollowed that friend on instagram. I do wonder if that was maybe his first taste of the fact that the people who follow him now are more likely than average to be queer, just because phandom itself seems more likely than average to be queer, and how that leaves him in a position where he's going to have to be sensitive to that. Whether he does or not, as you said, I think people will look to Dan for an explanation that Dan probably will want nothing to do with giving.

I heard about the first part of that but not Adrian's reaction. That's good. I love fandoms for how queer and queer positive the spaces we build usually are. There aren't many 'you may not cross' lines, but the kind of casual homophobia you see on the playground is one of them. We will unstan.

July 1st they met a dog at a Texas M&G. Phil deleted several old tweets about money after fans retweeted them. Spent their first night on the American tour bus and somehow used all the WiFi data immediately.

July 4th they arrived in Florida and watched fireworks on the beach. amazingphilshop.com was updated so you could sign up for a newsletter. According to whois.com, the domain name adrianhowell.co.uk where Adrian sells his photography was registered on this day. (I wouldn't have checked whois if I wasn't already under the impression that Dan taking down those two videos had something to do with his brother, though, so I'm prone to confirmation bias there.)

I don't know how often Phil deletes old tweets when they get new attention, but I can kind of imagine Dan sitting next to him and getting the same urge to make dumb things he's said in the past less accessible.

Looking at just a few old posts has made me nostalgic for the tour already. I'm so glad they've continued with IG stories so far.

They do feel authentic still, and people who know them or have met them seem to think so as well (I'm thinking of what Louise said in her vlog after they met her baby, and that server at the sky bar).
