on all levels except physical, dan is a furry.
no but it's just..... not surprising. he jokes about having depression but that doesn't mean he Doesn't Have depression. i have lot's of friends who are furries (for some reason i attract to them) and they're the ones to mostly joke about it. jokes can come from personal experiences and i think dan just relates to aspects of the furry community. you don't need to wear a suit or have a fursona or even "act" like one in order to be considered a furry. my ex boyfriend is a furry, my best friend's boyfriend is a furry, both of our other friends are furries, my sister's girlfriend is a furry. they're all furries. even that said best friend IS A FURRY. and they do not fit any of the stereotypes. they all just ironically say uwu and owo lmao
i make jokes about being not straight, and guess what? i'm Not Straight. i have clinical depression and bad anxiety, but you bet your fuckin ass i make fun of it. hes been making these furry jokes for almost 10 years and i think maybe,, just maybe, POSSIBLY...... it's cause it's the truth.

oh wow, a top of the page pointless rant? Love That For Me.

i snorted and almost choked on my water dangit,

honestly all these predictions are just fun and games cz at the end of the day, its all genuinely gunna be wonderful. i do think every pinof is something special in itself already but i know that dan sure do love a good "number" to end things. part of me thinks that its better to end a series while its still good before you overstretch it (as they say, "die as a hero or live long enough to be a villain") but i also believe that pinof is and will be a long standing tradition in the howell-lester household. so...idk man  who knows what the future holds?

anyways, as for the furry thing, i dont find it a big deal at all? he could like things to a certain extent just like everyone else. he might be fully embracing furry or not at all but still like some aspects of it, and thats fine. let the man embrace his truth yall

A bit more context to my late night post of yesterday.
I guess it all depends on what criteria you use to call someone a furry.
I have an interest in lots of things and make jokes about some things i'm interested in it for years. Doesn't mean I self-identify with what i'm joking about. I like to joke and mock aspects of "hipster" and "bro culture". Not because I am or identify as a "bro" or "hipster" but because I think some aspects of the (sub)culture are funny, and interesting. I've got a couple of friends who are to varying degrees into Rastafarianism. Some would call themselves rastafari's, others just like the clothing or hair style, for others it's not much more than liking reggae music or having a more than average historical interest in Haile Selassie. But they would never call themselves rasta's.

I think there is a difference between having an interest and joking about something like (furry) subculture and considering yourself part of that subculture. Sometimes both go hand in hand and sometimes they don't. I have not seen anything by them that suggest that Dan sees this as anything more than a joke, so i'm also not assuming there would be something more just because he's been joking about it for a while. That's not that remarkable, some people have been joking about furries for years just like they like to joke about other memes for years.
If Dan (and or Phil) truly were furries, I don't really care and I support furries right to self-expression (which doesn't mean that I can't find it strange). But to anyone who thinks they are furries just on the basis of what they have said and done until now I say politely: I don't think you understand the joke and it suprises and also worries me a bit how quickly you are willing to label someone a furry.

Afterthought : If we define being a furry as nothing more than talking and joking about it for a while/ saying we support them, I guess mr. Danyiff has turned some of us into furries too because this topic has been bubbling up a couple of times now on social media and this forum  Paws in the air if you like this rebrand ;)

Team pinof forever and team furries.

It’s more than just the jokes. It’s a strong interest in animals, in their mating calls, heck just in their mating, particularly the mating of animals of the same sex. It’s feeling comfortable in and never wanting to take off a lion suit as a teenager. It’s a whole closet full of onesies (yes I know that most of them were gifted). It’s talking about the anthropomorphic tv shows and video games that shaped their childhood and the role playing that was done. It’s making foxes a part of the AmazingPhil brand, in addition to lions. Heck it’s all those animal jumpers they both own. All the stuffed animals Dan kept well past childhood and posed naked with. It’s Dan using furry as a metaphor for deflecting about the nature of his relationship with Phil in his diss track. It’s starting out a very personal, romantic video with “awrf” (but sorry you still think that’s a joke too). It’s dating a boy with a very strong affinity for wolves and taking him to the zoo. Its the importance of and attachment to a furry hat and pair of mittens at the beginning of their relationship. It’s dressing up as a cat and a bear on Halloween instead of something gorey. It’s Phil commenting that there better be a bear in Dan’s first YouTube banner. It’s a childhood nickname that stuck and got picked up and ‘there’s no bear on this island =<‘ It’s the fucking cat whiskers, not just in pinof but before, and Phil saying they made him feel good, and making sure Dan always brought the special marker whenever he visited Phil. It’s Phil quietly saying it’s ok to google furries after Dan says not to when they mentioned they were educating Louise about it. It’s Phil sincerely saying being a furry is a good life choice.

Dan may make jokes about it but Phil is always calmly honest. You may interpret that as perhaps Phil being the furry and Dan just being vocal about it to deflect, but I think that’s just their styles. As alittledizzy said on Tumblr the other day, Dan is in a constant state of joking and being serious about things simultaneously. So yeah, much more than just a nine year running joke.

I have nothing to say because @autumnhearth said everything I could ever say and more. Dan's favourite way of being subtly honest for most things is joking. It's pointless to ignore someone's truth just to hide you being uncomfortable with it, and this goes back to when he joked about his depression .

we are still able to view what he says as a joke while also recognizing the underlying truth of those jokes. he has used this way of self expression for his entire time on YouTube- it's the same thing with his depression jokes. i remember there being an entire argument whether or not dan has depression because of the amount of self-deprecating jokes. and then dan uploaded "Daniel and Depression" so the debate was settled. he makes the same jokes about his sexuality.
if he's not a "full blown" furry, then he is at least very interested in the subculture and relates to some of it.
that's just a really good example of being a Closet Furry tbh.

@autumnhearth Can it also be meowing a song instead of singing the lyrics because I've always thought this liveshow clip was especially sweet. Dan genuinely thinks--and Phil seems to agree--that if you're uncomfortable singing you'll be more comfortable meowing.

@Stakhanov If you're interested in whether Dan personally identifies with furries/feels represented by them, this story Dan tells came to mind. (Whatever the game show "The Crystal Maze" is Dan and Phil sure seem to love it.) http://youtu.be/i69K1EOO4DQ?t=15m13s

Abso-frickin-lutely. I’m sure there are things I missed and so many others we don’t know about of course. Thanks for reminding me of the cuteness.

I don’t think I said, but I liked the pumpkin carving vid a lot and agree each vid should not and will not one up the last. Cheers all. :ribena:

I know we just got spooky week and I have no right to whine, but at the very least, could Dan, like.... insta story Phil gaming? I'm not asking for a full-ass, edited video, but just... a sprinkling of content.

I was thinking the same thing. It feels like spooky week was literally weeks ago but it’s been 3 days. I would kill for a homey instastory or pic. Give me Phil napping on the couch so we can see they’re sleeping. Give me Dan putting away the Tesco grocery order. SOMETHING! I’m starving for content.

@knq thanks for the clip. I just watched it a couple of days ago. That's one of the things he's said that makes it clear to me he's not a furry himself. He says the group were furries (not 'traditional cosplayers) and then talks a bit about how he thought the zombiecat was a bit 'extra' for attention. The key part imo is where he says "for some reason, as like you know a niche culture fandom on the internet, i felt like, i had to root for them. I almost felt, like, you know in some way, I felt like I was being represented by them. Let's not read any more into that."
So he roots for them as a niche culture fandom on the internet. Much like his audience, the fandom, is a niche culture fandom on the internet. So he feels represented by the furries because he links the with niche cultures fandoms. That is the most straightforward interpretation within that context imo. At no point does he say or imply he considers himself a furry.
I think this is one of relatively few clips where gives a sincere thought about the subculture, and it's one where he voices support. However most of the things (including he Halloween twitter change) is clearly in jest. Likewise, all the things that @autumnhearth mentions I don't believe are Dan or Phil sincerly being furries, just like I don't think Dan singing the Llama song or selling llama hats means much. Dan literally edits in things in his video's like 'let's yiff'. I don't think that's him genuinely soliciting people to masturbate with him. It's him making a joke. We all like and watch shows and movies with 'anthropomorphized' animals, it does not imply we all identify as furries. Do they have an interest in cute animals and furry culture? yea I think so, they do joke around it a lot. Does these jokes signal that they in reality also identify as furries like some of Dan's jokes were maybe signalling depression? No, I don't think every thing they joke about (and some themes stick around for year) has to mean they are also revealing some deeper truth.

This is the worst thing. I am literally so worried right now, even though it's probably nothing.
Is it standard to go to hospital for fainting in the UK? It's not here, but -
We will likely never know the cause, but I really hope he takes care of himself and that he will be okay... :(

Oh no! I wonder what caused it. I fainted at work once (literally during a meeting where everyone in the office was there, ugh I’m glad I don’t work there anymore, The Cringe) and it was mostly just embarrassing lmao. One second I was bored in a meeting, the next I was face-first on the gross floor. Good times. (But I hope he’s good, maybe just some low blood pressure?)
Thanks and have a great day! Oil me

it makes me worried because it's not usual for me to go to the hospital because you've fainted! but i'm relieved to see them talk and joke about it so it must be fine now!
