Am I the only one who doesn't minds spon content at all? It genuinely doesn't bothers me (I only mind when it's a beauty guru that doesn't specifies exactly what product they're sponsored by in the middle of thousands).
I also have a hard time seeing tour/book/shop 'spon' as being really a spon because it's theirs.

I actually don't either I was just being shitty. What I haven't enjoyed is spon at the expense of normal content. Its not so much that they've put out spon instead of normal content, its that what they're sponning for has made the normal content suffer (both in terms of frequency and quality imo).LurkingTrash wrote:Am I the only one who doesn't minds spon content at all? Although I must say their last few vids, I've really enjoyed. More like what they were putting out before all their time and attention was eaten by something else. Hopefully that's where we pick up from when normal business resumes.
So no, I wouldn't mind the bour stuff at all if it weren't for how it has affected everything else. In fact I would enjoy it if it weren't for that.
edit yaaaaay new pokemon vid

oh yeah, I agree with you here, when it makes normal content suffer it does bothers me then.Lurktacularr wrote:I actually don't either I was just being shitty. I'm HYPED about new pokemon video. heck yeah mini-ditl!!
Old news now but I loved the photo Phil took. ISG was extremely meh but I'll give Dan a pass for not making it after two months of no vids, that's how he should post these imo.
Hyped for Pokemon Go! I am forever thinking of the vids deppy claimed they've made for the gaming channel and wonder why they haven't posted :') I hope they will film a pokeGo one while they are in australia too, I don'r think it's that hard to film specially when there's the two of them. I've watched one of Jack's pokemon vids and it's so awkward when he tries to capture a pokemon and film and the same time.
Sorry to be a downer but I don't feel like they'll ever fully return to "normal" schedule. I think that they'll keep on looking for opportunities that will expand the brand or give them more profit. I don't think that youtube will ever go back to be their main source of income. I even feel like they might make a new story for another tour as this one was so successful.

Till it's out in the open, not like some beauty gurus I'm okay with spons if at the end I like what they do. I arrived when already the tour and book have been anounced so what I miss are the ls and the radio show, don't know how it was before.LurkingTrash wrote:Am I the only one who doesn't minds spon content at all? I don't mind the #spon, particularly when it's cleverly presented. And I don't think the Doritos reference was #spon; I think somebody recently asked Dan which was his favorite variety of Doritos, maybe in a ls? So current-ish topic, no foul.LurkingTrash wrote:Am I the only one who doesn't minds spon content at all? i absolutely agree with dizzy on that nails situation, and more importantly, the only reason you guys think dan's being harassed into painting his nails is because he is choosing to read out those questions out loud during liveshows, which not only brings more attention to the topic but also encourages more people to send him that to get noticed, that's not the approach he uses for any other topic he genuinely wants to avoid, because he's been a public figure for years and knows how to handle himself at this point
if he does it, which i'm not so sure he will maybe he simply wants to stop biting his nails, it's because he wants to, has the phandom encouraged him? well yeah, but no one's holding a gun (real or figurative) to his head

Quick note that the ISG video has 950K views in one day... not too shabby. His vids usually garner over 2M views, which roughly translates into $2,000 (more or less, depending on who (demographically) actually watches it and doesn't block the ads.)

Aaaanyway, Kids, if you're going to drink, get tattoos, drop out of uni, make YT videos... do it safely. For Dan.
Anyway, I don't really have an opinion on the nail polish situation.
As for Dan being relatable, I think he still is in a lot of aspects. His sense of humour is definitely what got me hooked. Along with the social awkwardness, and even little things like his interests/diverse taste in music.
I'm excited for the pokemon GO video!

that's what I meant, that he posted it relatively quick after the latest dinof vid instead of making us wait two months for an ISG, soz if I didn't made myself clearuglyamerican wrote:errr, have you forgotten the Diss track already?daichii wrote:... the sitc vid is cute, I have not been paying attention to the whole thing as d&p are not there so it was a nice surprise, i didn't even know that they were in a contest for best book

If Dan decides to paint his nails I hope he turns it into a video where Phil attempts to paint them and it ends up being a disaster.
That way we would get a cute video out of it and Dan could say "well there you go phandom I painted my nails (kinda)".

OK, getting back to the "regular" posting theme. So after the tour is over, does anyone see another comparable / sizeable project in the pipeline? The tour (and concurrent book-writing) was (and still is) a huge creative - if not logistical - endeavour that essentially puts everything else on hold (and involved a lot of people.) But now that the tour is drawing to a close (maybe,) it seems that they will have more time to devote to YouTube - if they don't branch out into other media projects. Or they go back to the BBC? How much of their creative time will be absorbed by managing their own business / advertising affairs now that they've appeared to have dropped ChannelFlip? Personally, I don't think they will have the time to produce regularly scheduled content like Caspar or Joe Sugg - even Connor Franta is slacking on his schedule to devote more time to ancillary business. (I'm using these guys as examples because they share the same demographic as D&P.)

I'm not sure it will be entirely youtube-centric but I'd like to hope whatever they dedicate their time to involves a higher level of content (whatever form that may take - vids, liveshows, radio, presenting, docs) than we've had for the last year.uglyamerican wrote:OK, getting back to the "regular" posting theme. And I'm fairly sure it will. Imagine if you took all the time they've put into producing mass-distribluatle differing content rather than getting something out of it which only reaches a small captive audience each time or is one-off (tour and book respectively). We'd have been flooded with deppy stuff.
I use the 'more vids' thing to basically mean 'more content', whichever way that may come. I'm not necessarily attached to it being YT vids, although I wouldn't want them to stop entirely.
Oh and edit do they really only get like $2k for a 2m vid?? Surely its way more than that or smaller youtubers wouldn't be making a living?
