So, I was just browsing Amazon because window shopping is my hobby. My other hobby is reading reviews left on youtubers' book and I found a dad left this on 's review

Just another example of Phil being a good liar: at 13:30 he said he'd ordered "the broccoli burger, the broccoli fries and the broccoli milkshake" with this serious face, and I was like "oh! are those real things?" (silly me) and Cat was totally confused for a moment as well, and then Phil's like "if you just remove the word broccoli from there then you'll have the true answer," and Cat was like "that's clever, I thought you're being serious." I thought he was serious too lol.

Phil is such an interesting [complex] person; sometimes I feel kind of waves of confidence coming from him, and yet there are other times when he strikes me as the shyest person ever. You guys say he's comfortable starting up conversations with random people, and I can see that too, but at the same time apparently he tends to avoid making phone calls - in the same vlog Cat said she had to call the room service to ask something for Phil, because he was uncomfortable to do it himself. I can relate though, talking to people on the phone can be really stressful.

And Phil with his fringe pulled back, aw (going back to around 13 min). I don't know, I love his fringe, but him showing his forehead every now and then makes me feel good on the inside. But if he wore his hair like that all the time I think it'd lose its appeal pretty soon, and probably would result in us wanting him to have his fringe back again.

Btw, have they ever explained why it's Dan and Phil and not vice versa? I'm genuinely wondering. :D I always thought it's because "dananphil" sounds better/smoother than "philanddan".

Thank you, spider! Yeah, that's a reasonable explanation. In fact, if there were a different one, I'd probably be surprised. :)

Tbh I always thought that it was the change in popularity from "Phil and Dan" to "Dan and Phil" with the change of popularity when Dan passed Phil out in terms of subscribers. After all, early Dangirls probably saw Phil as the sidekick kind of role and even other YouTubers seeing Phil as Dan's little accessory. There's was probably such a clear swap to "Dan and Phil" with the popularity switch online and then to their joint careers in Radio. However I agree, it does have a better run on words to it than the monstrous creature the Philanddan (extinct since 2011 RIP)

Though I am a little annoyed by Phandom in comment sections getting irked whenever someone happens to say "Philanddan", especially in older videos, saying "EW it sounds so wrong!!!!!!!" Maybe I'm just crazy but it is one of most annoying thing to see by the phandom on tumblr or youtube comment section. I just want to log on and comment "get over it, it was their old brand!"

For me at least it's purely phonetic. Dan and Phil rolls off the tongue easier. Phil and Dan has a lot of stress on the andD part and it slows down your mouth (at least for me). You can say Dan and Phil in a smoother voice because there is no hard barrier. Also if you say Phil and Dan then the Dan part drags on, like PhilandDaaaaaaan, whereas DanandPhil is quicker because Dan is quicker to say. If you say DanandPhil it basically turns into Danand Phil.

This is my own reasoning. It's like Ant and Dec. Ant is a less harsh sound than Dec. It's a very abrupt name like DEKK-. So Dec and Ant just sounds tiring to say because you need double the breath. Or Sam and Dean from Supernatural. Samand Deen. It just sounds better. :geek:

They can try and pass it off as a decision that was made because of one sounding better than the other all they want, but this is essentially what it was yeah. When Dan was still the less popular one it was Phil and Dan, even for their first Christmas radio show in 2011 they went with that. But then Dan suddenly became more popular and it just kinda became Dan and Phil. Phil stuck with Phil and Dan for a while (see the title of the New York video) but since then the only time it made a return was for the Japan DITL because it rhymed.

I actually remember this switch over. If you look back to their Jamaica trip, they basically confirm that they were saying 'Dan and Phil' on dinof, and 'Phil and Dan' on AP. Once again, link because I'm feeling less lazy still (you're welcome you toads):

0:07

Then as they started becoming more of a duo rather than regular collaborators (despite what 2012 Dan will tell you) with the start of the likes of SAP, the radio show etc they had to pick an order and stick to it. That was around the time Dan was surpassing Phil which may have come into it, but as everyone's pointed out it is easier to say and I don't doubt that was genuinely one of their considerations.

You know what I was wondering before? How does Phil's fam refer to them? Cos its uncommon for your own family to say your name second when paired with another (lbr here I'm talking about when referring to a couple) but then 'Dan and Phil' is such a thing so maybe it permeated their vocab too? This point was brought to you by the hapless wanderings of a deppy-deprived mind COME THRU LIVESHOW I need you rn
I wonder how biology can explain the physical pain you feel in your chest when all you want to do is talk shit on IDB

I had really deep profound thoughts on them lying and such last night while I was falling asleep, and most of them are gone now :( IDk about lying about real life things, and I don't like to assume.

However, the one that really bothers me is the lies in videos. The faking surprise especially. For example Dan talked about the Kangaroo suit for weeks in his live show and how they bought it together specifically for the australia vid, then acted all shocked and amazed that phil had secretly bought it for him. I get that it's sketch comedy, but they use this tactic A LOT and it bothers me every time. It bothers me the most in PINOFS. You cant tell me they don't set up shots where they have to get props ready like the stress mushroom or the dying chicken thing. Especially with how much Dan like to plan things. I don't believe you!!!!!!!! You can see it happening more and more as the pinofs go by, and I understand its "better" because the jokes can be planned and the editing is easier but it hurts my heart. :x

The other think I was thinking about was how people keep saying "Shipbaiting". I understand where you are coming from, but I think it is a mix of two things
a) they have made the domesticity and closeness part of their "Brand". I think this comes back to control. Dan especially knows people like it and want it, but wants to control the everliving heck out of how and when we see it.
b) Trolling us fondly. Tatinof was catered to the shippers is a phrase I see often. As anyone who was there knows, every moment and gesture in that show was planned to a T, and they played our emotions like violins.

mod note: tatinof spoilers under the cut
I don't ship them, but when they stood next to each other as cowboys and went to reach out for each others hands before realizing they were going to touch and pulling back (very scripted but gotdam you could feel the chemistry in the freaking balcony anytime they got within two feet of eachother) I screamed just like everyone else. They have realized the power they have over our hormones, and (Again, I think its mostly D and P just goes along with stuff) use it to troll the crap out of us.
Now the combination of these two things is deadly, and not fair to us. Maybe they shouldn't be doing it. IDK. I don't think they would if it didn't work every fricken time like magic. Maybe they are together and their kink is having it be a secret lol (JK, lying and hiding a relationship is extremely hard and stressful and cannot last more than a few years, I could only manage 3 before I had a complete mental breakdown).

This got pretty rambly, and I'm going to stop now.

What really stands out to me here is how differently their actions can be interpreted by fans with different perspectives.

What you see as them lying and bad/dangerous, I see as Dan choosing to be more open and honest with his core fanbase. Roughly 20k people saw the livestreams, millions saw the video. I see it as a level of trust and comfort that he decides to give the non-scripted facts to his liveshow audience, the 'behind the scenes version' - while the general more casual audience got the 'performance' part, which is scripted. I mean - is there anyone who doesn't think main channel videos are scripted? Because they definitely are. They're entertainers, their videos are entertainment. When speaking to a big audience who isn't following their every move, they use lies as exposition and to make the story consumption flow more smoothly.

I don't even have the energy to go into the shipbaiting topic again. All I can really say is that it's hard for me to imagine what the appeal is to anyone who genuinely thinks they're baiting that hard or being that deceptive.

hadn't they addressed before re: the radio show that they go in alphabetical order because it then, by default, appears earlier on most lists/searches and they have more chance of being stumbled on by accident? that's why it's Amazingphil and danisnotonfire but Dan and phil
isn't that also part of the reason why phil has that username in the first place? on another site the accounts were listed alphabetically, so someone just searching for people will come across A before they get bored and give up before P

Really enjoying Phil’s live show so far, sad I have to leave soon.

Do have to say that I really feel like Phil wants something to look after. His biological clock may be ticking.

Phil's live shows always make me happy- he even had me laughing a few times.

Loved his "what is my life" comment after yelling Leslie's name and his comment about buying Terminator and 2 scented candles.

I love Dan's live shows for his snark and humor but Phil's live shows are usually a nice fluffy distraction thats always appreciated on a Sunday.

"Short and sweet" is the best way to describe Phil's liveshows these days.

That said, my fave thing was learning that those 2 share saved video games and play together privately: "We got to a town..." when he was asked about a game. We.

Also I am living for a possible Simon the Shrimp Jr. (Practice for a dog, amirite?)
