Got me curious now too, I went scrolling through the thumbnails to find that shirt (assuming it's actually the mint green one and that screenshot has been edited, but maybe not) and I can't find it. I clicked on the few where he's not in the thumbnail and it's not those either (and now my eyes have just been assaulted by that awful pizza-print tshirt).

Also, I noticed this two posts ago, but didn't edit to say, "Woo, I'm a blobfish!" Good grief, I've posted a lot.

it's been great hearing everyone's stories so I figured I'd share mine real quick. I'm 17, I don't think anyone else has mentioned being 17 so that's quite exciting, and am a junior in high school. So far I haven't dropped out of anything but I did quit my calculus class last week (because I was failing it) which I'm worried will affect my college apps. This sucks because I hold super high standards for myself and constantly worry about my work ethic even tho I spend too much time procrastinatings. But fortunately I'm better at the humanities and arts anyways, so I hope to do something creative and impactful when I'm older. I also am pretty introverted, awkward, and weird, which is probably why I enjoy Dan Chris and PJ. Phil is also amazingly cool but a lot of the time Amazingphil is too "produced" for me.
I was waiting for someone to mention they were 17 so I wouldn't feel alone hahah! I'm turning 18 and moving out for law university in a couple months, which is very nerve racking for the obvious reasons, but I'm excited about it and hopeful everything is going to go well. Funnily I was studying sciences in school but like you I'm much better in humanities so I decided to just do the humanities exams and go for it!

It's been so interesting to read everyone stories and see how much most of us have similar and the same impact deppy have in our lives! Sometimes it's easier to forget everyone here has different experiences and lives and just start to group everyone together as blobs with opinions.

Yay! I really thought most people on here would be in their teens, so this is really interesting.
16 yrs old here!
But idk where I am otherwise on the scale. A dropout, living on my own and adulting, hopefully studying film and television next autumn and atm very close to having YouTube as my job. The phandom seems to have an unusual amount of dropouts and tbh Dan's story is one of the only positive ones I've heard, so for him for telling it and encouraging probs at least hundreds of young people to destroy their safe life plans and follow their dreams. I can't even describe how much YouTube has impacted me in the last 5 years, and now I have taken the last step and actually decided to try and pursue a career based on (online) video making. For me, YT is the only thing that always works out so it has completely shaped me as a person.

have been my main role models for the last 2 years, and idb is such a nice place to dive into the nice and easier YT fan standpoint (/ fluffy phan world) and some discussions here have actually made me realize things! I really love this community and hope life will work out for y'all soon
Can I join the young people club? This is honestly the first time I've ever felt young when interacting with the phandom. Reading all your stories is so lovely, the fact that we're all here together, with all our different diverse backgrounds, because of our deppy trash status is such a nice thing to think about. I'm currently 16, in that period of time where I'm technically supposed to be stressed but haven't realised it yet.If anyone else is doing the IB, please, help me. . I want to go into animation/design when I grow up, so I'm aiming for that - anyway again it's been real inspiring hearing all your stories for some reason. Everyone's so lovely!

this discussion about financials is really interesting. I've not spent much more thought on it before other than knowing that they're probably doing really well money-wise, but now I just sit here grinning because I am feeling so happy for them, having their own companies and everything. I get that it's a normal thing for YouTuber's, but it's still undoubtedly really cool. I am so happy for them and their success!
So, thanks to everyone who contributed to that discussion :)

I've thought about their financial situation before, and just in general I'm happy that they seem comfortable. It's funny how surprised I was to find out through this forum that they have two separate companies. For some reason I'd never even considered that (probably as I didn't know YouTube proceeds would go towards a company. I imagined it would be something like YouTube is a company that gives them a paycheck? Idk.) I just thought things like their books and merch would be in their company, which would be joint. Here's the question I quite enjoy though, do you think they share money (even if they make it separately?) Because I'll just say that when I was living with my partner for years, it felt silly to hoard our own money since it was all going to the same household. I don't imagine that would be impacted by relationship status since it's so clear that they have no intentions to part ways.

I definitely don't think there's going to be a May phan wedding. The idea is pretty laughable to me given the evidence some are basing it on. No one here has made me cringe with the amount of belief, but I did see some YouTube comments on a video where the clips were compiled, and some people did seem to really hope this was the case. Hoping to not have another "coming out video" response from the phandom when they in all likelihood don't get married.

They do have another company for their merch, that they and Martyn are directors of.

I'm not really surprised at their finances tbh, they're clever people who seem like they have good business heads on. I am more interested to see the reports for tatinof tbh, if they're making around 1,000,000 for their main channels/gaming channel then I expect tatinof to have made at least 3x that.

Least they can put that money to good use and buy themselves a nice property to live in!

My guess is because, at the end of the video, they asked people to vote for them in the Sony Golden Headphones contest (and said that if they won, they'd upload a London DITL). Similar to them deleting/unlisting other contest videos (e.g. Supernote) after they were no longer relevant.

Or maybe they're not as down with shamelessly asking people to vote for them anymore? ;)

. This is so cute! Bless this person for gaining this footage and sharing! It's so quiet. The girls are so polite! I love, love, love this! I love the part where Dan interrupts Phil to talk about Phil's degree! Now that's married!

I always wondered how phans just "approach" deppy. Now I know they don't need to, Phil stepped off the elevator and without a second thought just waved at them just based off them in a group and their body language, there was no "can I have a picture" it was instead like a silent agreement and understanding

Oh jesus, that made me uncomfortable as fuck to watch. No one even asked how they were doing until two minutes in, the girls were polite I guess but were still basically treating Dan and Phil like objects to pose with for selfies, have sign stuff, and to take videos so their friends get noticed as well.

Toward the end that one girl actually asked them a question but then didn't engage with the answer at all and just asked them sign something else.

This just proves to me that I would never, never approach them in the wild. Because I feel like this is the treatment they expect and the treatment they're programmed for when encountering fans, and if that's the Dan and Phil I'm getting then I at least want to know they're being paid for their time in a professional m&g capacity.

(The part where Dan interrupts Phil to talk about his degree is adorable, though.)

That was exactly the thought I had, and especially when in the end I saw the girls just filming themselves with Dan and Phil in the background. It just felt dismissive of them as individuals, in my opinion. They're not just selfie props and autographs.

It did spiral a ten minute day dream though of what i would say would there ever be an opportunity where they'd want a genuine conversation with me, I gotta stop doing that

this. also in videos people took at m&gs (which nonconsensual filming) they seem much more relaxed, and they do seem to chat a bit, even if it's only for a minute. like here, they're at the science museum and they're clearly going somewhere, and that's interrupted. which i guess is where i draw the line: for me to approach them, i'd have to be reasonably sure i wasn't messing up any plans (making them late, bothering them, etc). but a m&g would be ideal, as that's them setting aside time just to meet us and have mini-chats.

Yeah, I mean, Dan and Phil were super sweet in that video and they didn't come off particularly bothered by it all, but also those girls were waiting for them to exit the elevator, already recording. That's just not okay, imo.

I hope if I ever met them outside of a m&g setting (likely never because they have no reason to come to my area) I would just smile big and wave, then move on. If they approached me, I would try to make the conversation about thanking them and what of their channels I enjoy. And only if they offered, would I take a picture or autograph. Just, the concept of approaching celebrities and disrupting their daily life for my own benefit wouldn't sit well with me. Also probably something they'd expect but I would also ask if it was okay to post said picture before doing so. Reason underneath the spoiler.
I recently learned that Emma Watson doesn't take pictures with fans she meets on the street, and that reason is they would likely post it, and it would blow up, and suddenly anyone in the world has access to knowing exactly where she is. She's been stalked before. I just, after considering this, I applied the concept to Dan and Phil in my mind and I don't think I could ever post a picture of them without explicitly asking if that was okay.

Dans face when he comes out of the lift just before his little wave says it all to me.

Why don't people make more conversation around them? Glad when I met them out in the wild back in 2015 I actually had a full discussion with them, there was no autograph, silence or awkward hug in sight! (tbh though I wouldn't approach them if they were on holiday or just out and about. Least I saw them whilst working).

I actually think it's fine to share things like this, it ends to inspire a lot of insightful discussion about how fans interact with Dan and Phil (and vice versa)! We aren't the kind of forum that only discusses the positives, we aren't even the kind of forum that all agree on what kind of things we find positive and what we don't.

Same. I just heard their squeaking and saw how they filmed the elevator before Dan and Phil arrived and that was too much for me. They didn't even have a chance to avoid them (even though they wouldn't, knowing how polite they are). They were trapped in that elevator and could probably see the fans waiting for them before arriving. No escape possible.

On another, kinda off-topic note:
My parents just told me that "a YouTube star" lives above the apartment their friends live in. I asked how many subscribers she has (100.000) and who she is (never heard of her). I told them that it's not that much nowadays and my father asked how many subscribers "the two guys I always watch" have. Then he was surprised they don't have the same amount of subscribers because they do everything together. Apparently he does listen when I talk, that's surprising because it often doesn't feel that way and I talk a lot of shit. My mother then asked if the one with fewer subscribers is the one I like and I said I like them both. And she said, "Yeah, but that's the one on the right side, the one you prefer, isn't it?" Nice to know she already knows their seating arrangements after watching (and disliking :( ) one single video
