Loved the new videos from Dan! It's all been said already, but I loved that we got both a DINOF video for the sketches and humor, and a DINI video for the recommendations and rants. (With the bonus of us getting multiple videos!!) He also was convincing... I'm genuinely looking forward to watching some of his anime recommendations. #spon

Semi-seriously, he's so wildly popular that "support" from him, (however humorous - "jk, no I'm not", can do nothing but provide support for them. I've not been a Pewds fan (lbr,I barely have enough time in my life for this forum ffs) but kudos to him.

And on the topic of the the bigotry/repression/oppression/hatred members of the LBGTQ community have faced for centuries: I long for the day that we can accept people for what's in their heart, not who they love (or the color of their skin, etc.). This world is a scary place -- there are countries with death penalties for non-straight relationships. But even if someone doesn't face death or physical retribution, there can still be the risk of loss of friends/family. One of my students has been disowned by her family because of her sexual orientation. She struggles financially to get through college but there's also a deep hurt in her that is hard to describe. She's essentially an orphan, has lost her mother and her father, who just happen to live in the same town. It's heartbreaking. It's a road that that the majority of people don't ever have to walk. Things are evolving and I've seen a lot of progress over the past few decades, but we aren't there yet. Please be gentle with each other and respect people who put themselves out there, as well as those who choose not to.

On a side note, living in the good old conservative South in the USA, I have a co-worker who is gay and an atheist, and he says where we live it's easier to come out as gay than as an atheist. Sadly, that is true.

Phil's AD on the subject was easier for me to digest but I do get that Dan was more detailed on the topic hence those who understand the world will enjoy them. Love those role playing though especially

I like how it isn't until 36 seconds into the video that the annotation appears to disclaim an issue that is present from the beginning of the video. [DAN] was still learning the whole youtube thing. That, or he just genuinely anticipated that any viewers who doubted the veracity of the video would watch the whole thing before commenting. Bless him.

I also enjoy how Dan's kept his interest in DDR all these years. I haven't played since I was 12, though I did play "Keep on Movin" enough for this entire video to be too familiar.

I'm sure everyone's aware of this already, but my exposure to phandom/fan discussion of is pretty much limited to this forum and like maybe 2 tumblr blogs, so I'm still caught by surprise on a lot of things.

Like the fact I'm watching so much shit go down on tumblr right now, all these people are getting super upset at the "sudden" notion of Dan being bi(or not straight.) Like, there's literal battles and name calling happening and "just because a guy is attracted to other guys doesn't mean he isn't straight" and a lot of logic where, it's like, I get where you're coming from and I understand the points you're trying to make, but everyone is going at it so viciously that everything is just coming off really offensive?

Idk, this is a pointless post, but it really makes me appreciate you guys at this forum more, lol.

lol, it's not 2012 anymore. He'll either laugh it off or pretend he has no idea what you're talking about. He knows how to handle his sexuality in the public eye now. And, he knows exactly what he's doing when he makes videos. It's not like he doesn't know he's going to get multiple messages about his sexuality in this liveshow. He knows what he's doing, and he knows how to deal with it

I've noticed this too on tumblr, and it's so tragic. D+P are 2 guys in their twenties, they don't need to be "protected" by a bunch of teenagers with a blog. I'm sure Dan knows exactly what he means when he speaks about his attraction to the male gender.

I'm only seeing the drama from a cursory angle (people I follow have reblogged posts trying to get the fandom to calm down), but your observations are interesting, pixlexia, as I've only seen people hating on the bi label because they are under the impression he is exclusively gay (as opposed to your experience, which seems to highlight those who think bi does not apply to him because he is straight).

It is all too much for me, someone who usually finds in-depth discussions about sexuality and labels very interesting. Besides the fact that for whatever intentional or non-intentional "motive" Dan is normalizing expressions of same-sex attraction, I lit-ruh-lee don't care anymore.

Oh, I've been reading that one too, dw! I'm actually all for the discussion on this topic! It's just that, in comparison, people here have actual arguments and discussions and points to make that are based off various personal experiences and worldly knowledge, rather than seemingly pulling out these passionate opinions out of nowhere that are A) close minded af, B) have next to no backing to them, and C) aren't nearly as aware of D&P history. (I think C plays a big part, actually. I'm a lot more compelled to listen if you're aware of the literal dozens of attraction examples from the past and not just this singular vid.)

Idk, seemingly people here for the most part listen to the points being made rather than going into complete critical-shut-down-mode like "how dare you try to even try to have thoughts about things." I just felt super surprised going into tumblr and seeing people having meltdowns about it, because like I said, the only real discussions I see are the ones hosted here.

(Except I guess it's ironic that I think this considering that the other thread did get a mod warning, lol)

Oooh, interesting. To be fair, I was trying to search for something by using specific keywords, so I'm sure that influenced what arguments were getting brought up on my end. Either way, people are sort of losing their chill, and as ambiguous as I try to be with my opinions on things, I'd be lying if I said I didn't find it at least a little bit entertaining. (I'm shameful, honestly.)

Also, I do feel a bit sorry for the people who have no interest in any of this sexuality discussion. It gets brought up pretty much all the time, and if you aren't the least bit interested it must just sound overdone and boring as hell. Simultaneously, I'm with all the other people interested for relatability/self-identification/just general analytical reasons, but you guys have my sympathy.

I probably have watch this at least a gazillion time. I don't know why, but fetus Dan being pro on DDR makes me happy. And the fact that he admits (somewhere, I'm pretty sure I'm not delusional) that he cannot play as good as before makes me appreciate this video more.
