I don't doubt that there were a few people overreacting, but I don't think that there were many. Even so she should have just let it go, and not tweet about it. I mean what is that really going to accomplish.

I cringed when I saw that. And she tagged him too. Whyyy.

First of all, I get that it's just supposed to be a joke, obviously. There were comments on the video like 'omg she called him babe!1' and things like 'back off he's Dans' and whatever. But that's to be expected, and a lot of those types of comments are meant to be jokes themselves, I'm sure (maybe not all, but who cares). But things like this are why it's difficult for me to like Hazel (because I do sometimes).

It's just another shitty joke about phangirls essentially, but it also made me uncomfortable because isn't she drawing attention to why people are allegedly (annoyed/freaking out?/idk) about her calling Phil that? I feel like it's an awkward thing to say publicly (because she tagged him, she's actively involving him in it) to a colleague/'friend', like "Hey Phil haha all these teen girls think you and your friend are in love with each other and are mad I'm trying to steal you away, isn't it funny?" Am I overthinking it..? That tweet really just rubs me the wrong way in a lot of ways.

Like, Hazel. Just enjoy your +200K views on the video and shhh, just be nice.

I felt a bit like that too when she mentioned that Phil's bar would be succesful because it'd all be full of underage fangirls. I don't know why, but it seems a bit rude to say that, especially since Phil was mentioning it in regards to him making good drinks.

Hazel makes the kind of jokes that should be made in private, but in public. Because yeah, the idea of Phil making a bar when his main audience is underage is funny. But you don't say that to the audience. I just can't decide if Hazel's lack of censor is because she enjoys being caustic, or she literally just says whatever comes to her mind without thinking.

Do people actually ask them in person whether they are in a relationship or not? I would actually die if I witnessed that. Jesus. Someone please tell me that this doesn't happen.

hazel likes to separate herself from other youtubers to show that shes not like that and shes a filmmaker guys. phil passes for someone she can collab with without losing cred among the pretentious crew, but only if she shows as much as possible that she cant stand the phandom. the phandom is annoying, but no one was literally terrible, so why insult the people giving you views?

I think it comes from her streak of pretentiousness; she thinks she's so above the silliness of youtube (she and Jack are filmmakeurs tu sais) and she wants people to know it. It just seems so weird to me since she used to work for youtube, you'd think she would be more understanding of the fan community that supports it (although I suppose the fact that she quit maybe cancels that out). I don't know. I just think Phil/Dan would look at that tweet and go 'ugh really Hazel', it's just so unnecessary. Maybe she thinks it's ok because she's 'in on the joke' in some way, but no. Just no.

edit: omg jaej beat me to the eye rolling

I think she may also have been trying to distance herself from Phil's audience a bit too. Like, she'll collab with Phil to get some benefit from his fanbase, while still trying establish herself as not enjoying/being of the same level as his fanbase the likes of Evan Edinger and Emma Blackery by making fun of them. I don't know, both annoy me because they show a bit of a lack of self-awareness. There's no need to make fun of fangirls like that when your collabing with them, nor do you need to pander to them. Is there a collab that D or P have done, where a guest youtuber who doesn't have a similar fanbase (ex. Caspar) didn't do either of those things?

EDIT: basically what ^^^ said. I'm too slow.

I mean, the actual incident isn't that bad, but the whole post afterwards, his eyes said yes, reeks of cringe and denial. And that's coming from someone posting on a forum that frequently talks about itimate aspects of their life and overwhelmingy believes they are together.

 yeah I imagine at least D+P know how to deal with casual questions like that, I just pray to god that nobody goes up to them and is like "OMG phan is real! Let's talk about the v-day video! Phil was that real??" because :?

Hazel and her friends are just really not internet people, and they just don't understand nor know how to handle the fandom, so sometimes it's very disrespectful.

I often look at the British vloggers i see three kinds of people, the gleamers they are the cool kids at school, they are popular, but they love their fans only because their fans loves them, but they don't pay much attention to their fans.

And then there are the filmmakers, who are cocky and pretentious, they think everything that's popular is trashy and tasteless. They don't know much about how real world works and their bluntness hurts people.

And there are nerds like deppy who really try to understand their fans while maintain the integrity not to take their fans for granted.

Am i tumblr now?

If I were around and anyone ever did that, I'd literally get up and leave the room. Who cares if I've paid $100+ for tickets, I'd pay $100 to not have to witness that secondhand embarassment. I wonder if DP have plans on how handle that sort of questioning though.

maybe a bit, but i mostly agree so i must be too
if its a scale between the typical gleamer (i wouldnt say all of them, and theres some who are 'gleamers' in everything but actually being managed by them) and the typical filmmaker, d+p seem like a good centre point.
i also think they (through dans twitter especially) are good in keeping that small fandom mentality of being really close and down to earth, which isnt perfect in itself but i think its helped stop some of the complete idolisation that could have happened if they werent so connected

I honest don't know what they are thinking, it's not like she and dan/phil is having a 3 hours interview about their childhood experience and artistic pursue.

She was literally standing in the middle of a crowd and their are 50 more people who were pushing and shoving each other and all eagerly want to speak to him.

Does she really think that was the best time for them to come out?

Think again girl, think harder, use your brain.

I agree, you couldn't PAY ME to witness something like that. *shudder*
I feel like they must have thought about someone bringing up the v-day video in a meetup. If I were D+P in that situation I would just flat out ignore them, hug, take a picture, sign things and then move on.
I have a feeling Dan would get super pissed though, while Phil just stands there like

True. Idk how the question would even come to mind when meeting someone for the first time, but that's just me.

[offtopic]Is there are ticketing options in tatinof that gives you the best seat but not having a meet and greet? Cuz if they cone to Aussie, i would pay a lot for a good seat for the show, but i won't pay a lot to fake greet them for 15 secs. Don't you dare like my hair Dan.[/offtopic]

i agree with your continuum/classification here and i think d&p are a very happy medium. i always try to empathize and think how i would be if i were to make youtube videos and i feel like d&p have been so lucky to have found each other, they support and compliment each other so well in the way they put themselves across as youtubers! i also really like the way pj handles himself as he always seem very genuine, nice and a hard-working person w/o all the ego and fuss.

I thought Hazel meant calling Phil 'bae' in the video but then I noticed she had tweeted this before: and like... The comments aren't even mean or anything (at least I didn't see any of that kind, maybe there are a few). Am I missing something?
And now half of this fandom is apologizing and feeling sorry for Hazel and I'm like... lol, really?
Much drama very cringe

From my experience, the best seats in the front few rows (or orchestra pits or whatever) are for the meet and greet tickets at the front of the venue, and the rest of the seats are behind those and get cheaper the further from the stage they are. If you really want one of the "best seats," you could always pay for the meet and greet ticket and just not go? You'd still get a gift bag and stuff as far as I know.

Lol same.

Hazel jokingly calls Phil bae --> phandom jokingly overreacts --> Hazel jokingly pokes fun at us --> DRAMA!!!!1!!

An equation that makes sense somewhere, I'm sure, but come on.
