Dan and Phil Part 105: Gay 🧡
I would guess it'll be closer to II than WAD—some improvisation and spontaneity, but less than there seems to be. It's nice that they're theming the show around telling stories and sharing stuff they haven't before, but tbh they're not great at making their shows deliver on their ostensible themes. Even WAD, the show where Dan wanted to get personal and Real, felt somewhat superficial and artificial. I don't think that's a problem, though. As long as they're having fun, it should be a good time.

I hope the posting of the pics is an indication that they are back and that we will get a video soon.

So… 1. Phil really is unlucky. Thank god he went to hospital??
Also 2. I have some thoughts - some of which I already had during the mukbang (like I specifically took notes when I rewatched it) but a lot of it summarises to…I feel like somethings changed a bit recently and they really ARE more open with us? Like.. obviously part of this is tour promo and the need to stay more engaged with us because of that
But I also like noticed that even in the mukbang they made a point of trying to see if they wanted to draw new lines on what to share? And I mean us getting a hospital story from Phil isn’t new but what it still felt.. strangely much more private with all the personal pictures we saw? (Somehow that picture of Phil just after waking up with the stubble feels so private I got flustered looking at it) and the texts they sent ect.
Like I feel like even with tour promo… we wouldn’t have gotten that half a year ago. And I wonder if that’s gonna be a lasting thing?
Even the holiday pictures is like.. I mean we sometimes got some in the past but these have such.. intimate vibes at times?
(Although I do gotta say I had to laugh when they said in the mukbang they hadn’t been on holiday together in YEARS… boys you were in Japan last year. Just because you didn’t go on a couples trip by yourself doesn’t mean you weren’t on holiday together)
And lastly.. this is now a bit outlandish but.. I have this strangest feeling that I feel like they might have gotten married or are going to. I don’t know where this is coming from considering they both always seemed very anti - but I remember Phil’s random fiance comment from like.. five videos back, and in the mukbang his whole appreciating each day… and I wonder if especially with all of Phil’s medical conditions… it wouldn’t be a smart move for them at least legally

Yeah he's really unlucky, damn. What a horrible thing to go through, especially for someone with health anxiety. I'm really glad therapy has helped him cope with that.
And all of this was happening while the tour leaked and stuff too. Nightmare.

phil's experience sounds terrifying - i'm just so relieved and thankful to hear that he is doing well now.
please look after your loved ones and be extra kind to everyone, including yourself
this video feels like it's on a similar level of intimacy to their previous phil/hospital stories - i think that it might feel more intimate because this time was so dramatic and traumatic, so a lot of heightened emotions and experiences came out of it.
i had to take my partner to a&e on december 26th last year and it was a similarly heightened experience.
the holiday photos were absolutely gorgeous, for sure. i absolutely love everything that they've made/shared since the hiatus.
i am truly thankful and grateful for every second

I know Phil doesn't want us to make this a big thing but like =/ My heart breaks for them. That is NOT anything like maybe accidentally swallowing a bit of super glue. That is life and death and genuinely traumatic. I've seen people say this is a new comfort video for them and I'm like??? how??? (no judgement lol I just genuinely can't even fathom it. I don't know if I could watch a second time. I have too much of my own medical trauma lmao.)
I agree with somelikeitpink that something has shifted a little. Experiences like this tend to shake things up a bit even if the actions following aren't necessarily intentional. But also they just seem so grown-up lately. Like they've matured and hit a new level of growth individually and together.

It does seem like Phil is in his seize the day mindset. I do also think about his comment in the Mukbang about being 'lost' after Dan and Phil Games stopped/went on hiatus in 2018. I think a lot of Phil has been resistant to 'living. I sort of feel after the hair dying, DAPG coming back and more that he was starting to free himself. This medical incident will probably reinforce that approach to life. Good for Phil.
At this point I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they did get quietly married partly because of situations like this one. I don't know how it works in the UK, but where I live the hospitals are pretty strict about only allowing immediate family members into the ICU.

I was thinking about this, too. When my dad was in the ICU (which I'm assuming is the equivalent to where phil was being seen) I was the only one able to visit bc they only allow immediate family. it really sucked because I couldn't get the day of his surgery off work so he was just there alone and super confused (he just had a stroke). Meanwhile, his best friend of 45 years wasn't allowed to see him even though they're family in everything except blood. my dad's recovered now, but I'm still pissed about that.JLynne wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2024 1:47 am At this point I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they did get quietly married partly because of situations like this one. idk, maybe in the UK it's more relaxed about visitation and stuff? The US enjoys making hospitals as painful as possible.
This video is an instant favorite because it just has so many good parts. Phil doesn't want us to feel sorry for him and wants to joke about it, so that makes me feel better. I'd rather not dwell on how serious and dangerous that whole thing really was.
They're just so good at telling stories and making even a traumatic incident like this hilarious. From bickering about how Dan did or didn't catch Phil as he fainted (especially considering how Dan complained about Phil not catching him when he falls because of his blood pressure) and the reenactment of it, through Phil being offended about Dan being called his son, a hot doctor (of course, Phil always meets hot people in the most awkward situations) and Phil's super specific requests. It's just all golden.
As for the legal stuff, I also don't understand it and am not from the UK but I'd assume visitations and being able to make medical decisions for someone when they can't would be two different things. And that could be something to consider as well. But I'm sure if we thoughts of it, they have as well.

Making medical decisions on someone else's behalf requires (formally agreed) power of attorney, but that's also completely separate from marriage. It's conceivable that they'd have married for legal reasons in the domain of tax/inheritance, but medical treatment shouldn't come into it according to UK law.

thank you for the info!mez29 wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2024 5:44 am We don't have any discriminatory law around naming next of kin in the UK. Hospitals can set their own rules about visiting but in general there's no need for any legalised relationship with the patient.
you've touched upon my longest-held dnp prediction, which is that they'll eventually get married for the tax incentives.mez29 wrote: Fri Jul 12, 2024 8:45 am It's conceivable that they'd have married for legal reasons in the domain of tax/inheritance, but medical treatment shouldn't come into it according to UK law.

Love the idea of them doing it for the taxes. Capitallester would agree (I can’t get over him managing to squeeze in a nord ad into that story)
I do wonder though.. it would make sense to do it before the tour though since they’ll be spending a considerable time in the US and I think there you’ve got the next of kin rules? (At least that’s what greys anatomy has taught me)
Cause somebody mentioned it: I loved Phil’s random list of demands too. (And I’m totally not curious if they have some sort of household app or what app he meant in it. I’d be seriously surprised if they actually have a full on separate finances approach. Phil looked way too chill using dans card details during the mukbang

Gosh that hospital visit sounded dramatic, I’m glad he is ok, and having a rest on holiday.
I agree they seem more chill, and good for them seizing the day(s).
From the holiday pics to the gaming channel vids these days this is exactly what I have always wanted to watch, I am well fed and do sometimes watch like a proud auntie type of thing like awww look at them shining and far more free
I reckon Nord should offer to sponsor the wedding at this point, it just makes sense lol!

I feel like that was quite a vulnerable story to share—not because of the medical content but because of Dan's role in it, the text messages like people have mentioned, etc. I'm glad they felt comfortable sharing it.
The medical stuff didn't phase me tbh because I went through a very similar medical emergency myself so I guess I don't see it as that big of a deal. Hospitals are used to dealing with blood loss—if you're in the hospital when it happens you're not likely to die. It's blood loss from before you get medical attention that can be dangerous.
Also in the UK and yeah next of kin doesn't mean anything for medical stuff. When I was in the hospital my only visitor was a completely unrelated friend who came and hung out with me for several hours. Next of kin might matter legally but I've never died (believe it or not) and I've never been in a situation where I can't make my own decisions so I don't know how exactly it works there. I don't think Phil should expect to be in a state where he can't make his own decisions long-term—that'd be something of concern if you were terminally ill, and Phil is young and generally healthy. Obviously I support them getting married if they want to but I don't think this is a reason to get married in the UK. I don't know how it works for British tourists in the US though—but again I don't think Phil will need any hospital visits in the US, hopefully.

Some food delivery apps like Deliveroo or Uber Eats have an option to include cutlery with the delivery, and you have to check a box on the order to say whether you require cutlery or not. So I think he meant for Dan to either do that or just bring cutlery from home.
I am absolutely thriving in this era of content. I love their dynamic and how happy they are to share things with us now. Their holiday photos sent me into a parasocial hysteria
Sort of funny (or not) how we're all like "if something happens to Phil will Dan be able to visit/make decisions for him" even though Phil has a bunch of medical stuff always happening to him but not as frequent as Dan, who is apparently fainting on a weekly basis from simply standing up. Phil may have the weird stuff but Dan could just stand up and faceplant the coffee table on any given day. Put a helmet on him or something.
