Funnily, just last night I was thinking how I've been so invested in these two for so long now that I had a pretty solid concept of their context, and me having a little break when tatinof usa was going on allowed me to take a step back... and yep, still think they're together. Rarely waver these days because as time goes on that contextual picture grows and only points further to them being together for me. And I was thinking... wow, it would take a lot to make me seriously see them as platonic these days.

And that still stands. I perhaps underestimated how little silly things can make me prickle, but fundamentally them referring to each other as friends (what else could they even say?) and making fun of the ship ain't gonna rip the phan goggles off my face.

Also a little word of encouragement to any disheartened shippers - yes, the way he mentioned phan was reductive and mocking. But as he said in the description, that's the whole point. He couldn't have said 'i get loads of views because I have a really special and adorable relationship with this person [DONT SAY FRIEND] and so people ship it'... cos that's not really negative or roast-material is it?

Basically I think we need to take a leaf out of Dan's book and not take ourselves too seriously. They can mock the ship, their sexualities etc and we don't need to go questioning the meaning of life about it and take it to heart. Its just jokes innit.

Is it strange that the thing that really shocked me was the masturbation reference? Like, I mean we're all adults here but it made me double-take. The whole Phan reference was one thing (my belief is not shaken), but then he said that and beyond being shocked, I thought "Why? Phil not around?" Like obviously people in healthy relationships masturbate.... but.... you know what? This is all too much for me. You guys get where I'm going IDK

I agree that he was commenting on how his sexuality didn't need to be defined but... That was a nod towards it and that's all I need. It's a big step for him, imo. let me be excited, ok?

Maybe (for once) we could look past the whole phan thing and concentrate on the other good bits of the video without discussing 'is phan reelz' and only taking that one little line and making it a big thing. Haha there are so many funny things in this video besides him saying the ship is cute. A few things I liked:

- the fact he said we can call him a liar because let's face it, we totes do
- everything from your past you delete - ahem riptopsy anyone?
- him calling himself out about being vegan for 3 weeks
- the bit about him failing Uni and his parents being disappointed.
- his rapping in the faster section was frigging amazing. he did that bit so well
- 'subscribe to me if you like 4 videos a year'
- 'and when wet you look like a poodle HOBBIT'

And the one bit that stood out for me more than anything was the line 'procrastinating making videos because being judged is scary, you're so close to being forgotten the hate is imaginary'. Does he really think he's close to being forgotten! This is probably the biggest time for him out of his whole carer with the tour and book(s). I found that bit quite interesting.

Mainly this. Under spoiler cause it has to do with TATINOF: Also, little things here and there that would be more fanservice than shipbait if it weren't for the big picture. For example: the 50 shades of Phan in the make up video or the dancing bit in the Brits last year.

I commend Dan for this video but I really can't watch it because of 2nd hand embarrassment. I'll settle with the gifs. Thank you.

I told myself several times that are platonic friends to prevent possible heartbreak. I thought I've convienced myself. I interpreted that roast as total denial of phan. And it still hurts. Ugh. But hey that roast is subject to different interpretation. Let's see how he'll handle the questions during his ls.

I think it's way more critical of his public image than anything else.

this is what I was trying to put into words. I felt the same way. I don't see how this could be taken as phan is/isn't real. Specially in the context of the line. I just can't see what exactly everyone is doubting in, honestly.

Makes sense to me as nowadays he is more known and established as Dan of be it as radio presenters, author and on tour, as opposed to Dan of DINOF. DINOF sub is rising but the views tend to demonstrate the same returning viewers are watching.

yeah I agree with this, I thought the Phan stuff was the least interesting in that... thing tbh.

Well about the thing about being forgotten, it is a very common/popular opinion in the phandom and on here specifically that they don't post enough with youtube, they don't capitalise enough on it, they don't grow their channels enough, and their subscribers count is not growing as fast as other youtubers and their view count is going down or is gonna go down soon and that if they (and Dan specifically) don't post more/change their content/mature etc. kids will move on and they will fade. There is at least one post a week about that. (and to be clear it is not an accusation, I do agree with some of it, not the fading part tho)

I'm still phan af, but 'friend' coupled with the masturbation remark made my stomach drop a little. =\ In the end I don't actually believe it disproves anything, I just felt a little pang in my shipper heart.

.As the resident phanagnostic, leaning more towards no, imo that line was about what he thinks is a big part of his success ,nothing more or less.

I know he told us not to read anything too deep here but I want opinions on the other parts:
loved his dig at his try at veganism,
his constant effort to be not problematic but then say something that is seen like that
him leaving law school
his 4 videos a year.

Now I only want to see if some other youtubers are going to mention his video.

This And I'm also agreeing with Lurktacularr, fancybum, manged and pixlexia on this topic.

For me my view on them being together or not haven't changed, this is more like him acknowledging one of the reasons why people watch his videos than confirming or dennying anything. Also, calling Phil his friend is nothing new. Their whole branding this past year has been about them being friends.

And the masturbation part I believe is one of the things he did to rhyme, but whatever, I'm not putting too much weigh on that part

I found this really hard to watch. I seriously had to get a bit drunk to get through it.Now I'm going to have to wait until I'm not drunk to decide what I think about it. My only conclusion so far is Dan is "out" but Phan is still closeted...or maybe all in our heads...
