Okay so I actually looked at the proper details and the Melbourne event is at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl, which is a huge outdoor theatre - I'd say that sounds like they're definitely performing, not just doing meet and greets. Also Nash Grier is one of the guests, gross, why is he still getting air time? I kind of hope they shade him in some way haha.

(also i promise i'm finally disappearing now, i feel like i've really clogged up this forum today, sorry!!!)

(edit: top of the page yikes sorry again!!!!

Interesting...

UK- Australia: 21h flight.
Australia - Japan: 9h flight.

Japan cherry blossom season: late March - early/mid April.

interesting...
Well, there are flights to aus via Japan so it's entirely possible that they fly to Japan first, have a layover (like in HK last time) then go to aus
i want japhan 2.0

I thought we had established that Europe couldn't happen due to financial problems and the venues not being available? The Australia gig seems to be a one off thing sponsored and paid for by Amplify. The money for the tour had to come out of their own pockets, they had to organise it themselves etc. So if they wanted to go to Amsterdam they would have to pay for the venue and everything themselves. This Amplify thing probably doesn't cost them a penny. It's not about how far away a location is, it's about what kind of events they're invited to. So yeah, this criticism doesn't seem fair.
I was talking about Vidcon Europe. And I would cry for Dan and Phil except currently it would cost them literally £123 to fly in and out of Amsterdam on the same day. They are not poor by any means and you have no idea how insanely cheap flying is in Europe. VCE has been announced since what, July last year? 9 months in advance. This early you could literally buy £65 tickets (that is return tickets, not even one way price). I'm just annoyed.

I was thinking holiday in New Zealand after it? I'm sure I've seen them mention New Zealand a few times.

Few things in one go, love the FAQ it's awesome, piano teacher vid was funny but made me a bit sad because I wish he'd told someone or found a better teacher and in regards to the live show Cheeky Vimto isn't blue WKD and vimto it's blue wkd and port which combined taste a lot like vimto and it's quite strong but tastes delicious. I sincerely hope the chat in the live show tom persuades phil to tell us what that present was

lol at their reasoning that they won't go to Vidcon in Amsterdam because they have just been to Europe but then they decide to go to Amplify Australia when they wear in Australia right before Europe. I mean - they can do whatever they want to and both trips would be paid for by the event anyway, but why give such bullshit reasons? Why not just say that the date isn't convenient or whatever?
(I'm not interested in either of the events, just a bit annoyed when they pull stuff like that)

OK, I'm way late to the party, but I love Dan's sketch videos, so naturally I was all about his latest video (and effing T.O. stole my comment about the glasses... ) And now, to the thighs - which cannot be unseen. Whoever made the comment "Damn Daniel".... #freethejeans. Seriously though, Dan's picking up jogging again? I think he realizes that he's got to do something , or he's gonna have to revise his wardrobe (maybe cut back on the pizza?) ;)

I feel like chiming in with few things that I have on my mind that’s completely unrelated to the current topic (them going to Australia surprised me big time though!) So I’ve been really enjoying Dan giving his live shows these appropriate “intellectual” titles and him making charmingly mundane thumbnails lol, and I’m kinda sad it all will be gone forever in favor of something more clickbaity. I know, I know, he’s just doing his job, playing the youtube game... and speaking of games, I’m sad (again) by the fact we won't see them play any cool RPG games any time soon or ever 'cause a casual viewer damn them won't be able to make it through a whole 40-50 minutes video.

And also, the Blindfolded Makeup Challenge video - I don't know if anybody has said it yet: I feel for Dan (and Alfonso the filmmaker) the main problem with the video was that it was very poor in terms of creativity; I'm not sure if they thought it was "bad" 'cause it was beauty related (they probably did, but let me dream.)

D&P hate Europe and are secret Brexiteers.

All kidding aside, I'm too poor to go to Vidcon Europe anyway even if Amsterdam is pretty much my backyard (or more accurately I live in Amsterdam's crappy backyard that should be turned back into the pond it used to be) so I don't care all that much about them not doing that one, but seriously? Amplify?? With Vidcon Australia also happening this year I feel like Amplify just offered D&P a shitload of cash to appear in order to attract more people. Get money I guess

I wonder if they're gonna be at SITC this year..

I had no idea what "Amplify" was, so I visited their site. Seems awfully teen magazine-ish to me... wasn't Dan trying to move away from that?

Vidcon doesn't pay at all (beyond expenses), right? So yeah, I'm guessing Amplify just ponied up the cash where Vidcon couldn't/wouldn't.

Not to be a buzz kill but look at this entire conversation about Dan's thighs and imagine if he was a girl? He is not fat by any mean. Once again, just like when Glozzel twerked on him, he is held to a double standard.

If they go to SITC this year I swear to God I will unsub bc last year I went to SITC and they didn't go. They one time I'm in London, and they go to Australia. :sideeye:

Loved the new video though, felt like a total return to true form. Danecdotes are my fave.

I agree! This whole discussion made me so uncomfortable. Saying he shouldn't wear jeans or should work out because he is gaining weight just annoys me so much. Nope, he can wear what he wants and it doesn't matter whether he ways more or less than he used to. As long as he's healthy and happy, it's all fine. Same goes for everyone else, obviously.

I'm quite curious as to the amount of moolah they will bank from this event. I am also really bummed that we'll miss out on some Dan/Nathan Zed interaction. Nathan (and every other worthwhile creator) is due to be at Vidcon EU.

sentinel, if you are referring to a size shaming thigh discussion, then I agree, but don't have a double standard. Any type of weight/size shaming convo regarding any person is a trigger for me. If you are referring to our appreciation of legs, then I'm not so sure. I'll gladly engage in body/face/personality appreciation discussion of anyone!

Agreed as well. I understand that the criticism wasn't coming from an intentionally bad place, but in the end taking a screenshot off someone's thighs and suggesting they need to wear different clothing or start working out because of their body shape rubs me the wrong way.

A different topic: Several of you have mentioned that Dan regrets making the Blindfolded Makeup Challenge, could anyone fill me in on what happened because I never heard of that and I'd be interested in knowing what's up with that.

Ah, okay. No, I get your annoyance but I still think we should wait for them to talk about this before we judge them. Maybe I'm too naive but I feel like they haven't chosen Australia over the Netherlands because it's more fun. It might be the money. Amplify probably pays more than Vidcon. But I don't really feel like judging them. I know they're rich but they're probably trying to cash in as much as possible right now because Youtube won't be forever. I really want to know their reasoning though and I hope they'll tell us. Sorry for me misunderstanding though, I totally forgot about Vidcon Europe.

I checked out Amplify Cool for Summer and it looks like some kind of teen festival. There are quiet a few musicians present, Lindsey Sterling for one, so it seems to be a music festival that also includes social media stars. I don't know what Deppy will be performing though. Their TATINOF routine? Didn't they say they were done with that?

I agree. I'm not really comfortable with the discussions about his weight. He isn't overweight in any way and even if he was it wouldn't matter at all. He looks great in his jeans and I don't think making fun of the way they fit him is okay but that's just me. I try not to read these posts. I don't mean the appreciation or the people saying they felt more comfortable in their own bodies because of him of course but I felt some of the jokes went a bit too far too.

From his liveshow with 'Trump' in the title:
46:40
“I really can’t just shitpost on danisnotonfire because people really want the quality content."
“or even that video me and Phil did for Comic Relief” I get comments like “I really like your comedy videos that are cool and have sketches and impressive editing and make a point and that’s the content I signed up for, I just didn’t sign up to watch you drawing makeup on each other”
I don't think he regrets it (I mean it was for charity at the end of the day), but he seems to have taken any and all criticism of it to heart and based on that doesn't want to do something similar again. On dinof at least. And in yesterday's liveshow he went off on his little rant (around 16:30) about 'quality content' after somebody suggested a video of him and Phil nail-painting (which is basically the same.. genre? lol.. as the Makeup Challenge). Because some dudebro being disappointed in the comments over it will eat at him I guess.

Phil just said in his last liveshow he'd like to go to New Zealand.. So maybe they're taking the bigger payday from Amplify to cut down on travel costs and will sneak a holiday around it. Vidcon/Amplify, who cares as long as fans can get at them

THANK YOU the double standard with body shaming and objectification that happens with Dan is baffling and upsetting. He can wear whatever he wants and he looks fine at any weight, as long as he's healthy. AND even if he isnt, that's non of our business.
