Is there some way her license is narrow? A degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) is the typical degree for a licensed therapist (of any sort), at least in California, where she is licensed. And the MFT license itself requires many further qualifications beyond the degree, of course.
Maybe "narrow" was a bad word choice. I just meant it's specific to marriage and family therapy, and my point was just to empathize with some of what I've been seeing on my dash in terms of panel disappointment.

I am not an expert on licensing and certainly not in California. (My perspective is affected by the fact that my parents are therapists who do CBT and have PhDs, but I'm not trying to speak from their perspective of expertise or to assume that their way is better than anyone else's.) I don't have much knowledge of the LMFT and I wasn't meaning to demean it. My understanding is that it is a Master's-level license to practice specifically dealing with interpersonal dynamics in marriages/families/couples. Maybe that's different in California. I'm more used to others in my (non-California) experience (e.g., LCSW, PhD, LISW, LPCC).

Personally, I don't feel like I know enough about Kati Morton to say much there but my disappointment is that there's only one therapist on the panel, with experience in one type of therapy. (That is not a perspective I've seen more broadly in the phandom, as the objections seem to focus more on her.)

inanerat wrote: Sun Jan 24, 2021 3:50 am Ok so a while back someone started a convo about what would be a Phili video that we'd really love to see, and I talked about why I wanted VPMO2 and why it would realistically be something Phil would make, as well as something I would like.

And since we now have VPMO2, I would like to update my response: I would like a Phil nail art video.
Firstly, I think it would just be a funny and entertaining video for myself personally. But beyond that, I also think it is something that fits into Phil's sort of informal 'try new things' series, kind of like the Norman ( :( :betta: ) makeup look video; a chance to have fun and do something kind of creative and be bad at it but have a good time doing it. I was also reminiscing about that time Phil (tried to) helped Dan paint his nails yellow for that youngminds stream in 2017 and how much of a disaster it looked and how I want more of that. It also just generally fits youtube well, since like the makeup video and the wish haul videos, they're just things that do well and are generally liked and wide reaching on youtube. Also I can't remember for sure, but I know dnp get lil promo packages from various other youtubers, did either of them ever get one with Holo Taco? 'Cause if they still had it it would be a fun and convenient shout out, since I know they've hung out with simplynailogical at vidcon and stuff. Finally, like the makeup vid, it would give fandom members who actually are good at stuff like nail art a chance to have fun recreating whatever Phil does in a nicely done looking way.

Ok, that is all, I just needed to put it out there. :waiting:
I love this idea but tbh with Phil's lack of fine motor skills, I can't see him being able to do much more than poorly painted nails with a blob of other colours for the 'art' It'd still be super fun to watch though, I really enjoyed his Norman makeup video but he also had a much bigger canvas to work with. A video with Dan doing his nail art could definitely work! Now that it's in my mind, I really really want that to happen...

They definitely did get sent the original collection of Holo Taco but I can't remember if it was something Dan/Phil mentioned or Cristine?

I certainly agree there's a difference between a PhD and a master's, which an MFT is. And I also agree that that the name of the degree suggests individual therapy is not included (though that isn't necessarily the case). However, in practice, almost every non-PhD therapist in California is an MFT, regardless of what type of therapy they provided. As this page explains, "Many MFT master's programs in California also qualify graduates to sit for the LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor) licensing exam, either with no modifications to the curriculum or as a specialization that includes some coursework beyond what is required for the master's in marriage and family therapy."

Anyway, I'll dig myself out of the weeds and address your substantive point: yes, if this is to be a panel on mental health, it would make sense to have more of a balance of people with professional experence and people with personal experience. :tu:

Hello, new poster here! 👋🏼
Just wanted to share here that I’ve suddenly seen many british youtubers promoting stereo. W2S, Calfreezy and Willne have all posted on their insta stories that they are going live tonight on stereo. It seems like Phil was the first bigger name on there, who made some test shows, and now they are getting more people involved. I wonder how much they are offering, because these youtubers don’t seem like people who would normally do this. Two of them already stream on twitch.
Anyway, I just thought that was interesting. Now I’m just waiting for Phil’s new video, even though I don’t think he will reveal anything too crazy 😀

Oh that's fascinating - I love that Phil was the tester for it.

I still wonder if he and Dan got the leaderboard prize money, too?

Dan and Phil is a common noun now

Yessssssss PHIL VIDEO.

Also I'm surprised no one is putting forth opinions on Dan's panel. Usually people have lots to say about Dan talking about mental health!

He's apparently doing another panel next week.

I only caught part of it, but I feel like I don't have much to say partly because Dan's audio cut out a lot and partly because most of he said was things we've heard before. I did find the bit about a fan becoming a Young Minds ambassador interesting; I poked around the bios of the Young Minds ambassadors and it didn't illuminate that for me but it seems like that would be pretty cool from Dan's perspective and Young Minds' to be spawning new ambassadors.

I think it's a really great achievement for Dan to be invited. The World economic forum is a big deal and the type of people to be invited (any other year) are the kind of people with actual power to change. Very proud of our Dan today <3

The panel itself was maybe a little dull and didn't reveal anything new to us but that wasn't really the point either. The point of a panel like this is to bring forward important issues and perspectives to people with power and it's really cool that Dan is using his ambassadorship for this.

Now I'm just mourning the Swiss insta content we would have gotten if he actually had been able to go to Davos, sigh

I wasn't able to watch the panel live but having just finished the recording, it was Dan's best mental health panel appearance so far imo. He made a lot of really interesting points though the general audio/freezing issues were a little annoying. The moderator seemed to really be digging what Dan was saying too, pulling out quite a few of his points to feed further conversation.

Another thing I found fascinating about the panel was Kati. Having no idea who she was other than what was mentioned here the other day I was really interested in what she would have to say during this panel. What surprised me most was that, as the only therapist on the panel, she approached most questions from her point of view as a creator rather than an expert. She made one or two points about licensing later on in the panel but most responses were about 'my audience' etc. Felt quite strange to me.

OMG! I also thought it was strange!! What in the world could that be other than a dog? Please give alternatives because otherwise I will be stuck with the idea of a dog and then feel so sad when it is revealed that it is not

I haven't had a chance to watch the panel, but I've seen some captioned gifs and I like what Dan had to say in those. I really do think he's going to be taking a fairly generalist, traditional approach to mental health in terms of talking about practical behavioral changes and also how thoughts and feelings are connected, and honestly, while it's a message I'm pretty familiar with, it's also really nice to just have it reiterated.

I will say that I find myself thinking fairly often about that bit in the Stereo joint show where Phil says his mental health is generally good, and boy, would I love to hear them have a conversation about that. Because while maybe what Phil meant is that he's never had a major depressive episode, or doesn't have a lot of issues with irrational thoughts impacting his behavior, I would be fascinated to understand what Phil's experiences have been in terms of understanding his own emotional life better and how that might have been influenced by seeing Dan struggle with it. I also just love hearing from people who approach the world differently than I do, particularly those who are more outward than inward focused, and I wonder sometimes if Phil falls into that category.

I totally agree with out Megancita!

I used to follow this Canadian couple, Simon and Martin, where she is partially disabled due to health reasons and thus suffers from acute mental health challenges. He showed himself to be this great supporting partner, almost trying to project positivity as a way to show that he couldn't be dramatic about himself because it was her the one suffering. This is the impression I got: he started taking care of himself (gym/eating healthy) almost just to be able to take care of her.
This to me is kind of... sad, no matter how precious, because if y ou have someone suffering at your side, you do end up thinking "I am fine" just to avoid putting pressure on them or because you end up "hating" depression (after all, it is difficult to be supporting to someone who does not take care of themselves).
It also reminds me of that Teen Mom couple Catelynn Baltierra and her husband.

Dan is taking medications though, so I hope this means that they got to understand the limit between friend/lover-support and professional support.
