It made me laugh because it is completely ridiculous, I've seen so many funny posts about it on twitter too. It's times like this when the phandom pull together and just make a huge joke of it that I find it funny. As much as I am beginning to see the real problem with his behavior, I would never expect dan and phil to call him out, and I'm not surprised that dan made the 'problematic dad' joke. Felix's friends are much more prone to see and acknowledge his point of view in this situation ( even if it is skewed) because they know him and his personality, and can perhaps assume that his intentions are not harmful.
It does seem to me that pewdiepie is being turned into some kind of evil figure in this situation, to the point where it is seen as wrong for him to be mentioned in a favorable way. I personally don't see why people have to be so completely shunned over their actions ( unless they are actually irredeemable ie. murder) I guess calling them out might be important in order to get someone to see the harm in what they are doing, but I don't think making them out to be the villain really accomplishes anything in that aspect. btw gnostic welcome back

i honestly fail to see where in this discussion people jumped to the conclusion that (in this case) dan and phil are irredeemably bad people because they didn't call out pewdiepie, though. being disappointed with specific actions of your faves doesn't equal that. i feel like the consensus was more on the "i understand why they don't call him out, but i was disappointed with badly timed mention / because i felt the way they mentioned him served to trivialize the issue" side. it's a plain fact that pewdiepie has not even just made an antisemitic """""joke""""", but also failed to acknowledge why people would be upset by it, let aside apologize for it. which other line is he supposed to cross before it's enough to shun him? this has nothing to do with saying he's an evil person, but he has a large audience, and """""jokes""""" like these take part in normalizing this sort of language, and it's important to criticize the use of it.
it's similar with dan reblogging that barron trump post on tumblr -- it doesn't make him a bad person (i doubt he thought much about it), yes it's 2012 9gag edgelord humor, but it's also legitimate to comment that one doesn't approve of it, or is disappointed that he put it on his blog. i understand that people might be sensitized to discussions about "problematics" due to certain manifestations of call-out / witch hunt culture, but i feel like the discussion on this board has been nuanced with respect to this.
unrelated to this, phangate actually made me laugh out loud. i kind of wish deppy would make an allusion to it at some point, too, just to mess with everyone.
