I really like Jimmy but didn't hear about him before stumbling upon a video of him and Crabstickz, which surprised me.
Ah self-depreciating humor what would I be without you. I think his last video is a true masterpiece and the more I watch it the funnier it gets.

It's so clear why he and Chris are friends, they have the same sense of humor. I do love Jimmy and honestly wish he had more subscribers, I just think his self-awareness is ''too real'' for most people. The reason that Chris is as big as he is because of the whole Fantastic Foursome thing, and I can understand why he feels a bit resentful by becoming famous in that way.

yeah I found Jimmy through Chris too. I do like some of his videos a lot like this one or the cleaning the mirror one recently but sometimes his videos also leave him hanging. I don't really know how to explain it but being "real" and self aware and ironic on youtube is a really thin line to walk especially when your content is old school vlogging and really quite basic. And Jimmy pulls it off most of the time because he is funny and has that banter. But it also can turn really bitter and unfunny really quickly (for ex for me when he is with Chelsea). I also have to say his duo with Charlie doesn't work at all for me. But that is more due to Charlie who I find so dull and boring.
As for Chris I totally disagree he is so big because of the fantastic foursome. That period probably boosted his subs but not the people that actually regularly watched (and still watch now when he finally uploads). I think he was and kinda still is big because he is hilarious and interesting and appealing and that his videos were definitely original with a tone of their own.
Would you say PJ is big because of the fantastic foursome too? Admittedly i actually don't like PJ much. I find his videos boring and uninspired. But likewise a lot of people love him and his universe and I really don't think his success is due to his friendship with deppy.
I think that this notion Chris owes a part of his success to dan and phil, that Chris himself seems to entertain and resent (like he hates that a lot of his followers have deppy profile pics for ex) is completely false actually.

I personally love PJ, he's my favorite YouTuber and I think he's fantastic, but yes, I also believe that he owes a part of his YouTube success to the Fantastic Foursome. Being original, funny and creative isn't enough to become big on the platform, a lot has to do with exposure and having the right friends. The fact is that most people's first exposure of Chris and PJ was through Dan and Phil. Don't get me wrong, if they also didn't put out good content people wouldn't subscribe, but I think it's slightly naive to assume that this exposure didn't skyrocket their subscriber count massively.

I don't deny the friendship might have boosted his subs and given him exposure but I still disagree with your original statement that "The reason that Chris is as big as he is because of the whole Fantastic Foursome thing". Being associated with Dan and Phil doesn't make you big. Catrific is a great example of that but there are lots more. Also we would have to see, fantastic foursome was in 2011 mostly, a bit 2012 too. What were the subs counts for the 4? Was there already a huge gap? Crabstickz was really pretty big at the time.
All in all, i think we kind of agree that being with the right crowd does help you, give you exposure but the content and your personality is what makes you successful. I just disagree with you saying Chris and PJ are big because of deppy. If not completely false, it is a huge shortcut.

I live for that kind of humor. To be honest I watched that video several times today and it still makes me laugh A. LOT. I don't really know what it is. Maybe because, in a relatable way it reminds me of the humour I use when at work and pretending I like my job and stuff?? I don't know what it is but I love this video.
And I'm all here for his banter and the accent as well ngl ( ). I have a day off tomorrow might be time to binge watch his videos a bit.

Yeah i totally agree. Sometimes it is a bit awkward when he criticises content on youtube because its not as though everything he puts out is brilliant. With that said its a hell of a lot funnier than the chubby bunny challenge or any of the vids the gleam team does
I also think chels has a tendency to be super bitter which is a shame because i do like her and i think their chemistry is fantastic. I want their chels and jim sitcom dreams to come true

I think Cat is a different story altogether, as her content is mostly unexciting vlogs and as a personality she's rather bland, unlike PJ and Chris. Also, I never said that I think Chris and Pj are only famous because of the Fantastic Foursome, but just that this was just a contributing factor to their success. I don't mean this in a negative way at all, as I think they are both great YouTubers and deserve all the subscribers.

I think knowing bigger youtubers can help a youtuber gain an audience as people will check out their channel based on the association but then they have to actually deliver the kind of content that will make those fans want to keep watching or they'll gain nothing from knowing that youtuber then a few extra subs who never actually watch to give them view gains.
I believe there are fans dedicated enough to their favourites to subscribe to a youtuber who doesn't interest them because they are a fan of that persons friend(s) but I don't personally think there are many people (if any) who would actually watch new video content week in and week out that didn't really interest them just to show support to their favourite youtubers friends.
I actually think Catrific is a good example of this she has around 750000ish subs and yet her solo stuff as of late seems to be getting around 20000-50000 views. In contrast someone like Evan Edinger who has less then half her sub count seems to be typically getting at least 70000+. KickthePJ who has around 850000 can usually break 100000 per video (although he too probably has subs that follow because of who his friends with). And Bry and Candice who only have around 130000 subscribers get similar viewing figures to Cat despite having less then a quarter of her subs.
To me that suggests she got some followers from her friends that aren't all that interested in her by herself.

Maybe I completely haven't been paying attention or something, but did anyone else know that Tyler is a contestant on this season of Amazing Race and he and Korey Kuhl are the top 3 in the finals now!
I had no idea until Tyler posted a video about it today.

I've been vaguely following along with the Amazing Race, will definitely watch the finale to see who wins it.
I've found it interesting all season though (or since halfway through when I first discovered it), that for a season focused on social media, there's been so little buzz on social media about it.

I've been watching it and actually really enjoying it! I usually like this type of show but had never watched the Amazing Race before for some reason, but it's been quite interesting. All the teams are known through social media in some way, but most of them I had never heard of apart from Tyler & Korey, I'd seen a few of the Vine people in passing online but that was about it..
I think the problem with social media buzz about it is that it was filmed a while ago and they've had to keep quiet about who won, but I'll definitely be watching the final this weekend and rooting for Tyler & Korey, they've been doing great all season!

I love Liam too. I remember loving Chameleon Circuit and their music when they were still around, before the YT abuse allegations. Also, Liam made a video called "Why Do We Ship Real People?" that I find myself thinking about again and again whenever people get really deep into phan theories.
And there's this:

We are and we should be proud because superwholock is technically three fandoms but we are only one. Plus we are already more popular on tumblr than superwholock I think.

I went to watch his video, and I agree with him, back in the way when shipping wasn't called shipping and shipping itself was just a subculture thing that not been broadcasted on buzzfeed, rps(real person ship) was treated as a sort of taboo thing which first rule is "not tell the real person you are shipping that you ship them", rps was interpreted as an extension of the fictional ship, for example you ship character A and B, and because of that you also love the idea of C and D being together. But nowadays with the rise of celebritism and media exploitation, shippers are getting younger and younger, they are more reckless and less mature, and rps is not longer treated as a morally grey thing anymore, which to me personally i think it's very problematic.
However only the true shipper understand the feeling of wanting to ship someone, is too strong and irresistible!!! So I'd say if you ship secretly and not to bother the person you are shipping, it's all good. Meaning we can say whatever we like on IDB just don't scream "Phan is real!!1!" into 's faces.

I've just been watching the last 20 minutes of the episodes since it's on after I get home from work (just to see if Tyler/Korey were still on, I literally don't know any other people's names on the show and usually had no idea what they were even doing or where they were oops) and Korey legit just made me tear up with his little speech to/about Tyler at the end. That right there is a beautiful friendship

Jack is my favourite YTer (after of course) . It is unbelievable how much he has grown over the last 2 years. He is nearly catching Mark up now. I think it helps that he just seem so genuine when he talks in vlogs and really appreciates his audience. He is always on twitter, tumblr answering asks (not a lot of youtubers do that).
I just find him hilarious and I like that I can rely on him to have 2 videos out everyday. Also he is quite hot so that helps
I do like Mark. He isn't in my top 5. I don't watch every single video he uploads. I love his Huniepop and Huniecam series. Also when he plays choice games like Will you press the button? and Would you rather?. My problem is he plays a lot of horror games, but because I watch youtube at night I tend to skip past a lot of his videos.
