Well, at least Pewdiepie's fans often get called a bunch of 12 year-old boys, but that more because of his popularity, so I definitely agree with you. I always get annoyed by people making fun of fangirls for behaviours that don't get commented on when done by mostly men (ex. sports fans thank you Morgan Spurlock).bedhead91 wrote:This is going to sound incredibly hypocritical coming from me, someone who takes the piss out of the Phandom quite regularly, but I find it annoying and misogynistic how quick YouTubers are to mock obsessed YouTube fangirls, while fanboys like PewDiePie's Bro Army don't get the same treatment. (The fanboys are actually worse, in my opinion. YouTubers with gaming channels, like Markiplier and PewDiePie, always seem to attract the worse kind of douchey, sexist, 'anti-SJW' dudebro.)
Dan & Phil Part 5: Dan & Phil Lester

i'd agree if it wasnt for the specific examples. pewdiepie and his fans definitely get mocked a lot, mostly for being actual 11-13 year olds.bedhead91 wrote:This is going to sound incredibly hypocritical coming from me, someone who takes the piss out of the Phandom quite regularly, but I find it annoying and misogynistic how quick YouTubers are to mock obsessed YouTube fangirls, while fanboys like PewDiePie's Bro Army don't get the same treatment. with the phandom, its really insulting to fans and to themselves when other youtubers make it seem as though the only reason theyre popular is because of obsessive teenage girls who're only interested in hot guys who might make out. it puts them in a weird place of having to explain 'we actually appeal to a much wider audience but theres nothing wrong with being appealing mostly to teenage girls'. mocking the phandom for being cringey can be fine, but not forcing stereotypes of them being obsessive or shallow based on age and gender when they arent like that
my name is jaejmine masters and i have something to say. dan and phil have fucked up japan
phil lester threw the first brick at stonewall, we love a queer icon
phil lester threw the first brick at stonewall, we love a queer icon
i also find it irritating when people mock fangirls/fangirl culture, but to me hazel's comment about the bar full of teenage girls didn't actually come across as at all derisive? idk maybe it was just me reading it wrong but i found it quite funny bc it didn't seem to come from a mocking/malicious place - i mean, based on their subscriber demographics and the age range of their most vocal/dedicated fans, the thing about the bar being full of underage girls is like factually true
I agree with you, I can't see her tweet malicious at all In my opinion, Hazel's issue is that she doesn't have an Internet persona per se, thus it may seem she is mocking phans when in reality she just doesn't sugarcoat much her opinions (unlike Dan and Phil?)griff wrote:i also find it irritating when people mock fangirls/fangirl culture, but to me hazel's comment about the bar full of teenage girls didn't actually come across as at all derisive? idk maybe it was just me reading it wrong but i found it quite funny bc it didn't seem to come from a mocking/malicious place - i mean, based on their subscriber demographics and the age range of their most vocal/dedicated fans, the thing about the bar being full of underage girls is like factually true
On the other hand, I do get weird / bad vibes from Catrific, and the situation with Luke Conard reinforces my belief.

I've actually done uni projects on this very topic (not D&P specifically but fangirl culture and the treatment of), so one million times yes to all of this. As a person who can pretty much always see either side to an argument, I'm still really passionate about how degrading and unfair it all is. And I typically love how D&P respond to it, too, because normally rather than getting defensive about who their audience is they seem to get defensive on their audience's behalf instead. I think my favorite Dan quote ever has to be when he said "Never underestimate the intelligence of a 12 year old." I feel like that's really important to keep in mind.jaej wrote:i'd agree if it wasnt for the specific examples. pewdiepie and his fans definitely get mocked a lot, mostly for being actual 11-13 year olds.bedhead91 wrote:This is going to sound incredibly hypocritical coming from me, someone who takes the piss out of the Phandom quite regularly, but I find it annoying and misogynistic how quick YouTubers are to mock obsessed YouTube fangirls, while fanboys like PewDiePie's Bro Army don't get the same treatment. About the Hazel tweet - personally I couldn't give a shit what she tweets, I don't follow her or watch her videos, but she definitely got what she wanted and got lots of people talking about her didn't she
these youtubers are very clever, they know if they post anything against the phandom it'll be taken literally and some interweb drama usually happens which gets more and more people interested in why and taadaa, more video views
The thing that was worse than the girl asking Dan is phan was real, was the way the phandom treated the girl who asked. She was probably young and didn't know better but yet the phandom over-reacted (as if they ever do that) and basically tore her to shreds. I actually felt a bit sorry for her, people were really rude to her. She made a mistake, yeah she shouldn't have asked or mentioned that his eyes said yes but she clearly knew no better. The phandom police need to find their chill sometimes and remember that these people are human beings with feelings too.angrymob wrote: I mean, the actual incident isn't that bad, but the whole post afterwards, his eyes said yes, reeks of cringe and denial. And that's coming from someone posting on a forum that frequently talks about itimate aspects of their life and overwhelmingy believes they are together.
Yes there is, obviously the m&g is like the front row seats unless you are me and Human and you get drunk and manage to find some empty ones, ahem but 3rd, 4th, 5th row are amazing views and you can buy them just as a normal ticket.akui wrote:[offtopic]Is there are ticketing options in tatinof that gives you the best seat but not having a meet and greet? Cuz if they cone to Aussie, i would pay a lot for a good seat for the show, but i won't pay a lot to fake greet them for 15 secs. Don't you dare like my hair Dan.[/offtopic]
yeah you can definitely get good seats without a m&g ticket, i was in the front row at a london show (though admittedly quite far over to one side) and i just had a standard ticket
i felt a bit out of place as an 18 yr old male-looking person and the screaming was a tad cringe-y at times (not to mention bordering on sensory overload), but once the show actually started i enjoyed it so much that i stopped feeling awkward - i definitely would recommend seeing tatinof if u get the chance

[offtopic]on that note, i also posted this on the music thread, i'm also going to see troye sivan on the 10th of may in amsterdam and was wondering if anyone else is going? i normally go to a lotta concerts on my own but this one i fear might be full of loud teenagers who are not really there for the music and it'd be nice to have an accomplicegriff wrote: [offtopic][/offtopic]
ps: i find it strange that the offtopic makes everything bold but okay, i'm just getting used to posting on a forum

I don't like Hazel, but I guess I almost understand why she tweeted that. I had a look at her replies and a lot of people did have a big response to her tweet. People seemed freaked out, which is so silly. Still think it was immature of her to tweet that; you'd think being on the internet/living on the internet, she'd understand how fandoms work (they're massively immature).
A bit of a sidenote but I would rather have 10,000 more of these waffly videos of Dan than out-of-context silly "inspirational" quotes I s2gdaphenaxa wrote:
very interesting
actually Dan talked about it a bit in a liveshow if you wanna see
I agree that it's not fair if people attacked her, but I don't find any aspect of this situation worse or better than others. It was cringey for her to ask Dan, it was cringey to post about it and deny his answer, and it was cringey that people attacked her for it. I do agree, though, that people need to find their chill when it comes to these things. Clearly she thought this was standard procedure for meeting Dan Howell.missemma wrote:The thing that was worse than the girl asking Dan is phan was real, was the way the phandom treated the girl who asked. Woah insight much By the way in your mind, what other youtubers will be in the same group asakui wrote:Hazel and her friends are just really not internet people, and they just don't understand nor know how to handle the fandom, so sometimes it's very disrespectful.
I often look at the British vloggers i see three kinds of people, the gleamers they are the cool kids at school, they are popular, but they love their fans only because their fans loves them, but they don't pay much attention to their fans.
And then there are the filmmakers, who are cocky and pretentious, they think everything that's popular is trashy and tasteless. They don't know much about how real world works and their bluntness hurts people.
And there are nerds like deppy who really try to understand their fans while maintain the integrity not to take their fans for granted.

Dan in Florida confirmed..?
Man, they're so dedicated to the tour, making sure they are both in sunny Florida a whole nine days before their first show.
The real question will be if Dan just goes radio silent/bot-tweets the rest of the week, or if he acknowledges when he's there.

Maybe a fan will spot him first and then he'll begrudgingly acknowledge his location.
