"I didn't give you consent to touch my joey" and "Squirtle, consent" aren't very serious in my opinion. He's not literally saying "remember kids, consent is important!" He's throwing the word consent around in silly scenarios. I definitely think he's joking around, I don't see either of those uses of the word "consent" to be serious. Please explain how it seems serious to you? I'd love to have a different viewpoint shared because I'd love to stop feeling this way about Dan's use of the word "consent."
First, I completely agree that consent is important and is currently a complex social issue. The way I see it, jokes like this tend to be perceived two ways - either trivializing or normalizing. I don't think either interpretation is inherently wrong but rather is tied to individual experience and context.
On this particular example, I personally fall on the normalizing side of it. "I didn't give you consent to touch my joey" and "Squirtle, consent" are jokes, but they place the issue of consent at a more basic, simple level that I think acts as a normalizing influence on the overall concept. I didn't explicitly say you could touch or intrude on my personal space, so don't.
I interpret the point of the joke as not trivializing the importance of consent, but rather enforcing the need for it. The way he is saying it is not serious as it is a joke, but in this case I personally don't see it as harmful. That being said, I can see why others would be upset by a complex social issue being reduced to a punchline as I fall on that side of the fence on other issues and in different contexts.

Team Mystic for the win.
I watched it while at work so I really need to watch it again and give it my full attention but I really love Pokemon Go videos. It is like a mini DITL and i just love seeing them do something different.
Salty Dan was my favourite part. It is very annoying when someone else gets a Pokemon and it doesn't appear in your game!
I would love a Pokemon Go in Australia Video. I bet Dan is loving the different Pokemon over there. Really jealous. being stuck with Pidgeys and rattata

Of course I've got nothing groundbreaking to contribute, I just want to agree with everybody who loved the video.
My favourite parts that I can quickly recall right now include, but are not limited to:
- Phil chasing a squirrel
- 15:19 Phil's "stop hitting me with your balls" and the way Dan yelled "Phil STOP". Massive bonus: Dan's facial expression and the guy on the bike behind him
- Dan looking GOOD in his outfit
And also:

I wouldn't say I liked it more than the first but I definitely agree with you on the more vlog-y vibe front
Re, the consent thing that evee brought up: I personally feel it similarly to spaceguitar and visiblelurker. My reasoning has just been perfectly explained by visiblelurker Imo the trivializing (mocking?) vs the normalizing explanation is spot on and I definitely feel he's doing the latter.

Just saw the latest Deppymon Go, reactions under the cut:
First things first:
Oh hell naw, Phil. Shame on you. Insulting your own grandmother? Now that’s low I mean we knew it was gonna be a toss-up between Team Inflated Sense of Self-Importance and Team Calm-Yo-Tits andactuallyitleakedsoweknew but really? The hate is uncalled for.
That’s it. Un-stanned. Look at my icon. That’s right. I’m angry starlight-still now. I’m not playing with y’all, This is it.
That's right.
I'm walking away.
Hmf.
Sayonara, nerdz.
Of course, I’m playing Instinct-hate aside, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it a lot. It doesn’t hurt that I’m in one of those moods where things have been so rough lately that anything remotely funny sets you off into a fit of giggles. So, happy timing
Nothing too detailed or reflective, just little reactions:
Phil's naming stories, like how his Rattata got called “Jesus"
Phil’s eyes when Dan zoomed in on them and said he should get on that podium and express an opinion........... If I weren't angry!star already I'd be ghost!star again.
I love it when they get that little rivalry going, like when Phil kept catching ones that level 2000 Dan didn’t have and Phil’s name choices I think he was genuinely pissed about the Dratini.
Dan at 6:54 shaking the camera and saying “bye bitch” to the Pidgey, he’s peppier than Phil in this one.
Dan gets so intense and competitive …and that all-black ensemble…
Phil’s a wanderer…he wanders off…he chases squirrels…the Doctor wouldn’t enjoy having him along but it's oddly charming.
Running from the rain…what, are they made of sugar well their outfits are.
All that being said, I’ll change my icon back when we Instinctians get a formal apologyI’m good and ready.

Certain points in the video they are literally sitting on top of each other and seeing their faces through the reflections of the phone you sometimes see them lean super close. Of course less than 5cm is totally normal #platonic distance
Phil's dainty leg crossing gave me 10 extra years of life. His eyes and 10 second quiff Also his continuous ball jokes and even appreciation for the male butt
The whole video was like two husbands walking through the park. Dans whiny "phil why did you leave me" and Phil's giggle and "sorry" were out of a fucking rom com fight me.
all of this and yes i noticed the dainty leg crossing too and i loved it<3
like everyone i loved the video. the close up on phils eyes (dan loves phils face, he always zooms on those eyes) and the air pushing his hair back phil chasing the squirrel and getting scared (his little jump was so funny). i love how casual phil is with games. he likes playing them but at the same time he couldnt give a shit.
the game itself bored me a bit. i was excited for pokemon go for 2 or 3 days last month.
despite that both the pokemon go videos were a bit disappointing for me because i am GREEDY.
i know its stupid and i have to remind myself its a gaming video. but they remind me so much of a day in a life vlog i want to see them go back to their home/hotel and chill. watch movies, order pizza, sleep, decorate a tree or sth. i miss the more "domestic" part of it. It wasn't a very exciting video but it was pleasant and entertaining enough.
Besides, I really, really, really want Dan's jacket (nah don't tell me how much he's paid for it), it looks great. Much better outfit than the last time. The cosplay thing he's planning to do might be cool tho. Hopefully we'll see it soon, I mean, how long this game is going to be relevant anyway? I'm not at all salty that I can't play it on my phone. Not at all.

I *loved* Dan's stingy comment. I love that Phil seems to be that way about spending money. I'm far too charmed by the idea that it's something they tease each other about.
(That being said, I totally spend real money on that game, too, it's just so much fun, and like, level 32, so I feel v comfortable having paid a small amout for a hella lot enjoyment. )

Yes to this! We have to remember that consent is not just with sex/personal space etc but it should be a normal thing and when he uses it like that it just points out that is everywhere. It can be "may I barrow your pencil?" or "may I kiss you?" Etc. Consent should be used all the time but a lot of people don't think about the small stuff. It is just being conscious of other people's feelings no matter how trivial.
Note: I yelled at a guy at work today because of this. I brought in a treat for my upcoming b day and he just walks in my office and opened the box of cupcakes. No, "may I have one?" He does this all the time it just bugs the crap out of me. I'm mean how rude are you. The whole world is not yours for the taking. Seriously....sorry still irritates me...[/rant]

As a big fan of Pokemon Go I'm sorry if my comments on the video are serious! I don't know if I liked the video that much, because I am so addicted to it I wanna see them actually catching the good Pokemon rather than just talking about Pidgey all the time. I know exactly what Dans reaction to catching the Vulpix is like because since the update a lot of the Pokemon run away!
Just a few things I noted during the video:
> Dan complaining about not catching the Dratini. He totally caught it after Phil did and they stopped filming and if he didn't what a sucker seeing as he totally could have done
> Phil explaining to Dan what the insence was, he already knew as Dan has some already going when they were in the uber
> they shouldn't let Phil hold the camera as he's so shakey
> there is no way Dan got to level 20 (& now 24) without spending serious cash on lucky eggs. I downloaded the game when the Australian version landed and am only half way through 23.
> Hyde Park is a Clefairy and Growlithe nest, how didn't they catch any. smh.

This video was filmed a couple weeks ago, and PGO had the delay release in the UK, so he's had far less time to play than the rest of us. I've been playing since the day it was released and play constantly and I'm only at level 19 (halfway to 20).
He's level 20 in the video (And now he's saying he's level 24???). I regularly walk 3-4 miles when I play so...for a guy with a full career, prepping for tour, a supposed fear of society and the outdoors, and pneumonia, his level is suspicious.

and the conversation about consent is really interesting and important, but i don't have much to add. visiblelurker already said most of what i couldn't put into words. but i don't think there's really a right or wrong way to look at it
also, the pokemon go video really made me want another day in the life video. time to watch the old ones and hope for a new one?

Oh damn that last sentence, I agree so much. The Fine Bros make some pretty boring choices for what they're gonna show but I'm a bit over people acting like the Korean music industry is just the same thing over and over again. It isn't any worse than Western music in that regard. If your entire view on Kpop is based on these video, maybe stop.
But kpop is not an umbrella term for korean music, it's a genre in itself with its own specific sound. And while i like kpop and hear how different the songs are, i also understand why it would all sound very similar so someone who doesn't like kpop.
I think they tried to make it different by including khiphop, but failed miserabley. They should have made a ytr entirely about khiphop to include some variety to get some more varied opinions. I'm sure there's lots of good music available in that genre.
We even talked about how they could make another kpop react more interesting, for example by going into the working conditions of idols (with the gfriend falling video as an opener), there are so many more interesting angles to this, why do they insist on this oh-how-weird-how-is-this-successful narrative?
absolutely agree that it's patronising how surprised they all are about the success of kpop. english speaking countries only make for a part of the worlds population. Non-western things are popular. There's nothing surprising about that. It's the same with bollywood, why are they always so surprised that other countries have blooming entertainment industries? The whole world listenes to us pop music, but when something foreign is popular in the us, it's a miracle
Really liked isg, but i like the format, so that's no surprise.
Conversation moved on so a spoiler it is.
Oh of course Kpop is not all of Korean music, but people act like there's less musical diversity in the Korean pop genre than there is in the Western genre and that it all sounds the same when that's simply not true. I guess there is a specific sound or format in most kpop songs, but among artists there are so many differences to be found. Like GFriend sounds nothing like AOA, and EXO doesn't sounds like BTS. The list goes on and on. But it's Korean and ~weird~ so people have no problem saying that it's all the same. Nobody would say Adele and Fifth Harmony make the same music just because they both sing in English though . They did try with the musical diversity by bringing in some Khiphop but it wasn't a good choice. I think they should've brought a band in the mix instead like, FT Island, Day6 of even the Wonder Girls as they now have a band concept and are killing it. It wouldn't really stray from the pop genre, but would still show a different type of artist.
And honestly although discussions about the working conditions on idols are interesting, I'm not exactly jumping for the opinions of people ignorant on the subject and who think it's all the same anyway. The Fine Bros are notorious for asking their questions in a pretty biased way so that no one will get out of line anyway. 'This idol got injured but had to keep performing / this idol got stalked by their fans / this idol can't date the other idol because their companies forbid it and their fanbases will go berserk... WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT?' The YouTubers will answer with how terrible that is for the idols and that they couldn't imagine going through that. End of episode.

Hyde Park is excellent for Pokémon Go, many London parks are. Plenty of Pokéstops and Lures. Central London in general is insane, but the crowded streets are annoying while playing so parks are just a lot nicer. Just sit in a spot in the middle of two or three Pokéstops where lots of people are dropping Lures Central London is really their only option for a filming location because they don't wanna make it obvious where they live, so going to Hyde Park makes sense.
