So smaller British youtuber Dan Stokes (Savannah Brown's ex & the guy in Ben Cook's short film)
Just posted a new video:

And it has Mark Gatiss in it?? How the hell did he get Mark Gatiss to narrate/star in his tiny yt vid for his tiny yt audience? Does he have connections? Are they related? I'm burning with curiosity tbh

Yes I want to know too! Mark Gatiss seems to be a little involved, or at least knows a little what's going on, in the Youtube sphere. Youtubers he follows on twitter and/or seem to know are Crabstickz/Chris, Sean Joseph Young (who was also in Sherlock), Ben Cook, and our ( ;) ) Dan. And maybe more.
A few months ago Poppy & Dan Stokes & Oliver Banks mentioned spending a day or something where Mark Gatiss was also. So that's probably where this was filmed. Since they are all in the credits of this short.

I also really like this one by him:

Mark Gatiss & Youtubers (that I know of)
(wanted to add this to my last post, but I was too late. also I totally don't have to study right now for exams so this is definitely not procrastination )

Dan Stokes & others hanging out with Mark Gatiss
Ben Cook's tweets
(also Charlieissocoollike) (also Chris) (where he mentions writing for Doctor Who magazine and seeing the episodes) (and many more)
Chris (Crabstickz)
Calum McSwiggan

I had no idea until Tyler posted a video about it today.

I've found it interesting all season though (or since halfway through when I first discovered it), that for a season focused on social media, there's been so little buzz on social media about it.
I've been watching it and actually really enjoying it! I usually like this type of show but had never watched the Amazing Race before for some reason, but it's been quite interesting. All the teams are known through social media in some way, but most of them I had never heard of apart from Tyler & Korey, I'd seen a few of the Vine people in passing online but that was about it..
I think the problem with social media buzz about it is that it was filmed a while ago and they've had to keep quiet about who won, but I'll definitely be watching the final this weekend and rooting for Tyler & Korey, they've been doing great all season!
My family and I are utterly obsessed with the Amazing Race. Tyler was the only one I recognised out of the social media crew though. I was pleased that Tyler and Korey were such chill and nice people the whole time. He was a massive dick in the second last episode but I'll give him a pass since it is a competition. Also it's hard for me to justify Tyler winning all these prizes and then possibly the 1mil at the end when arguably he probably has plenty of money. He and Korey won them fair and square so I can't resent him but still.

Spoilers for the finale.
The finale was a bit disappointing challenge wise and didn't have a lot of tension. The memory challenge wasn't even hard. No chance for any of the teams to catch up, basically once you made one mistake you out of the game. Also I'm bitter because I wanted Sheri and Cole to win and I really don't like Dana.

Thanks for the replies everyone - interesting, looks like the connection is through Ben

I think it's really nice of Mark to show an interest in the youtube world, tbh I love it when older, successful people take an interest in what 'the youth' is up to instead of being condescending or whatever

And yeah I like the stars video! Interesting to see where his content his heading, now that he's privated all his older (goofier) vids

These days I often feel like I only get something out of smaller youtubers' content, I guess once they attain the means to sell stuff at you/too much pressure/audience expectation/etc - the content starts going downhill. That's definitely not always the case though (e.g. deppy still nails it every now and then, maybe it's just that my obsession is waning lol)

Totally agree with your thoughts on the finale, I was rooting for Sheri and Cole to do well because they could actually use the money for college, whereas Tyler is clearly doing just fine and the dancers kind of rubbed me the wrong way the whole series for some reason. The challenges were a letdown compared to what had come previously imo, and the fact that they finished in the order they started the first challenge in made it pretty obvious there wasn't anything difficult enough to get really stuck on and give another team a chance to catch up.
I also really liked the newlyweds before they got eliminated, poor Rachel having to do the tough watering/salt challenge against all the boys, and they were gonna use the money for adoption (I think?), which I think is pretty great

can't embed it because i'm on my phone (srsly youtube why won't u let me copy the normal link)

so, doddie came out as bi (or re came out, after going through the 'i don't like labels' phase every bisexual i know including myself goes through)

i'm obviously not at all surprised but i really liked her video so i wanted to share it, the experience of figuring out you're bi is a lot different from figuring out you're gay, so i love watching coming out as bi videos bc those are # relatable to me (so self-centered ikr)

also what are y'all thoughts on doddie?

personally i usually really like her, except for a couple of instances like her video about feminism where she sounded very ignorant imo (also she mentioned heforshe, out of all organizations, why) and that one time she got involved in phandom drama out of nowhere when literally no one was talking about her, and I really like her songs

Old news but always good to hear (also coming out isn't just a one time thing blah blah). I go back and forth on her as a person, but I do enjoy her voice. Frankly I'm more interested in blackerys replies to her tweets about this, saying she has bi-dar. Is she insinuating she's bi too? Let me be a bitch for a minute:
Where's a peer of hers publicly saying derogatory shit about her sexual preferences on Twitter and laughing about it with their other shitty friends? Where??
K sorry I'm good.

I also enjoy Dodie's voice as well, and it's nice to have bisexual representation on YouTube!! I don't blame her for getting involved in the Phandom drama too much because I think she was influenced by Hazel's bias on the matter. I'm also like 95 percent sure that Emma Blackery is bisexual...when I still watched her videos before I started hating her, I noticed that she would sometimes make the offhand remark about finding a woman attractive. I remember her once saying in a gaming video that she found a female character hot, and to quote, ''if she's not at least a little bit gay I'm going to be sad.''
I'm with fancybum on this one, if karma existed then someone would be dragging her out of the closet on Twitter and making jokes about her liking vagina. Oh well.

I really really liked dodie's video.

As far as she goes as a person, I really like her, too. I kind of compartmentalize her involvement in the phandom as a product of being close friends with Evan (ugh), and as far as her watered-down feminism goes, I chalk that up to her being young. She's very talented and mature with regards to her music career and how she presents herself that I forget she's younger than me and hasn't spent a lot of her life seeking out gender/social/political theory.

Re: Blackery. I watched (i know, i know) a recent q&a video with her recently and one question was "would you ever date dodie?" and she made a face/there was a long silence and she said that it would be up to dodie. so yeah, maybe not in so many words, but she definitely has a thing for dodie, which is what i believe the person who tagged her in dodie's tweet was referencing in the first place.

This is very interesting, that would certainly explain why Emma was staring at Dodie like a lovesick puppy in that collab that they did together. It would certainly take everyone by surprise if Emma and Dodie started dating. I hope she's just being attention-seeking, because Dodie is too good for Emma. Fancybum's prediction that Emma was going to date a musician would turn out be true though.

I liked that she was straightforward about it, i find it really fake when people cry on camera for 10 minutes before even saying a full sentence.

I'm very closeted IRL

Love working with bigoted teachers

Also living with another female and pretending to be flatmates is like the easiest thing ever, I love my closet, it's warm.

Not that I currently am, still living with my family.

Look at the introductions thread, there are plenty of us here.
But who the fuck am I kidding? I'm mostly just the rotting banana peel at the bottom of the phan trash can who genuinely gets excited over the thought of them snuggling in bed. Idgaf let a bitch live

[offtopic]Only my best friend knows I'm bi, I told her when I was wasted (I regret telling her , I wanted to keep it secret a little bit longer) I'm fine being in the closet for now.

I guess it's easier to hide your sexuality when you live with girls, our standards when it comes to "friendly-close" behaviour are way different than the standards of boys friendship (my wording is so lame omg I'm so sorry I wish I could express myself in english better).[/offtopic]

Trust me, there are quite a few of us but we are all hiding in plain sight. I also don't know how old you are or where you live, but once you get older, people tend to give less of a shit. I go to a pretty liberal university just outside of London, which has a very welcoming atmosphere for LGBT people, so I have one or two friends that identify as bisexual.

Dodie? No, she was involved in just general phandom drama, nothing sexuality related. Evan has said that living with her is what made him stop getting involved in the Blackery/charlieskies stuff because she was a positive influence, so I'm inclined to like her based on that. Though she has had a few missteps since then, nothing nearly as bad as Evan/Emma.

The only thing I can think of is she participated in the "no bunk" fiasco, which was somewhat related to Phil's sexuality. and then there was that time dan made a cryptic tweet and fans took it all out of context and assumed he was mad at dodie lol. I don't blame her for any of that but I cringe @ evan and emma's responses.

other than that, dodie just sometimes mentions dan or phil when the opportunity for a joke arises (based on the 'ffs' i actually think fans were making that joke/connection first and she had to set things straight jeez).

she did youtube rewind with them one or two years ago, but besides that and conventions, they don't really interact at all. partially because she's close friends with evan and emma (to a lesser degree, I think, but still?). However, she recently moved in with Hazel Hayes, who did that collab with phil, so we shall see.

I find Dodie’s videos strangely comforting and chill, I enjoy checking them from time to time. Though her manner of speech/singing took some time to get used too. I wish she dropped a bit of her ‘cutesy’ Tumblr branding/presentation in her videos (that’s personal preference ofc), I think she’d be taken more seriously as a musician. I like that she’s progressing professionally, her latest original song was very good imo.

She seems like a sensible person with good head on her shoulders, though I agree that some of her comments on twitter/in videos sound a bit immature/one-sided. But she’s quite young and I’m sure she’ll do all the growing up/learn to be in the public eye quickly. I have nothing to add to the sexuality discussion.

Also I like the idea of #dovan.

this is relevant i guess. I am very surprised he would say that honestly. maybe dan said that to make the girl who asked happy or maybe he really likes doddie but that's funny he never mentioned her before or tried to contact her as far as we know

I love this. I was always afraid that Dan would distance himself automatically from Dodie because of her friendship with Evan, but I'm glad to hear that that's not the case. I'd love to watch that collab.

i'll be honest and say i can't really imagine a collab working tbh. she kind of mumbles and makes sounds and stuff and it wouldnt work with the very direct dinof speaking
she's very 'i miss 2007 youtube i miss meeting in fields !!' and twee and 'omg tea and glasses!!' and... dull. i see why she's popular on tumblr, she's got that smol bean flower crown twenty one pilots fairy lights thing thats kind of popular. i find her videos really irritating and dont really like her singing, and since my only other knowledge of her was from a couple of weeks ago when she put a video of a guy on a train on twitter without him knowing because she thought he was hot... not really a positive view.
my name is jaejmine masters and i have something to say. dan and phil have fucked up japan :japhan:
