DINOF videos don't make me as excited as AP ones lately. And even AP videos don't get me as excited as they used to.

This is what your shitty upload schedule has done to this C'MON BOYS.

Anyways. (sigh) The nature of the Roast Yourself Challenge videos is cringe, it's introspective self reflection, it's someone basically screaming their insecurities over a diss track.
I love it.
I watch other YT'ers who have a clear brand and persona im sorry and to see them be so self aware is refreshing. And I'm a snoop, so to hear what someone perceives as worth roasting about themselves is particularly interesting.

I think he is going to stick to his branding until the tour is completely over, so it doesn't interfere with the show. But I'll pretty much only enjoy this video, if he roasts his 2015 self, and gives some new insight as to what he thinks is worth roasting.

Things I hope he'll roast: rehashing jokes, ambiguous sexuality, having the same hair since 2009, #RELATABLE, spending 30 minutes on one tweet
Things I hope he glosses over/doesn't use: llamas, delia smith, whisks, never leaving the house*,

Just a quick note on Phil's liveshow (there was so very, very little of it after all) - not for the first time, Phil professes to be bad at pranking. Bad... At... Pranking... lolz. Bless him, maybe he's managed to forget (good for him if so).

If Dan's doing roast yourself I'm fuckin there for it. If its DINOF roasting DINOF it'll be decent I think and we'll get a chuckle out of it, because even if he limits himself to the DINOF branding its still Dan writing it and its right up his alley humour-wise.

HOWEVER if its Dan Howell roasting Dan Howell and DINOF (cos lets be real, there's scope and material to tackle both separately) it could stand to be my favourite DINOF vid in recent memory. And if he goes down that route I reckon we'd get a nod to phan, because how could you not? Come on, that's prime bait. In my wildest dreams it would be a really funny way to come out: 'I've been trying to hide my relationship for 7 years and I can't even convince my own preteen audience [cuts to Phil awkwardly waving]'. As if, though.

Why are we all assuming he'll be awful at rapping? He's a man of hidden talents. He listens to a lot of rap, is somewhat musically inclined and can edit it to fuck and back. Again depends on how he wants to tackle it - a nerdy white boy (in which case yeh terrible but mostly deliberately so) or just go in on it (in which case I think he'd be alright).

In summary I want Dan Howell roasting the fuck out of Dan Howell and not holding back on the content or production. Come on Dan, I know you can do it.

Oh P.S itsonlybeth that's interesting. What if it was a wrap up in the sense of a conclusion/finale to reasons why Dan's a fail? It would work well imo - gives him an excuse to do a funny challenge and wrap up a series which should have died a while ago anyways.

I am not surprised if it is a Roast Yourself Challenge because someone (from idb but i can't remember who) predicted it when he said he need his voice for the next video. (i am pretty sure i read it somewhere whether on here or twitter)

I am looking forward to his making fun of himself humour because that's all I want from him. Contrary to most people here, I don't think I will be comfortable to watch him roasting Dan Howell because it feels intimate because only people with thick-skin can roast themselves properly and put the video up for the world to see (also I don't want him to feel bad about himself. Lol)

I mean, I know I'll cringe at a Roast Yourself anyway, and I agree with swofro that a Dan Howell roast would feel quite intimate and I don't want him to feel bad about himself, so idk, I might prefer a DINOF roast.
No matter how the video turns out, brilliant or just cringe I still applaud him (if it is a roast) for taking a risk, somehow I didn't really think he would do it until now, and I hope he keeps stepping out of his comfort zone for future DINOF videos no more internet support group pls

Even if he could pull off a decent rap, I don't think he would. See his clip in the "Rather Be" BBC video and his comments on it. If he can't be perfect, he'll go for intentionally bad so he can avoid the criticism. Doesn't want to be seen as trying too hard. Laugh with him, not at him.

But put me on the "I'll be happy to be proved wrong" wagon on this along with the other things mentioned.

I haven't watched any videos of this challenge though, so I don't have any expectations going in.

Philip DeFranco did something like that by asking his audience to comment on an embarrassing old picture of his, but I'm sure the concept could work without a specific subject as well. It'd be a bit like an Internet Support Group with the audience participation, but actually fun to watch. Even if only to see which ones he would include and which other ones he'd ignore. And the phandom is pretty funny. Funnier than either of the boys sometimes.

I actually really like this idea! Better than any possible new versions of the internet support group thats for sure.

I'm finally back on the site

Phils liveshow was alright. I always enjoy his livehows but he was distracted in this one and no matter how much I love him I cannot deal with 10 minutes of ice cream talk. It makes sense because he was going to a BBQ so he was really distracted but I wish he was more into it.

Also agree with dizzy about Phil being more open about him and Dan. He mentioned Dan so much last week and even told us he likes to stare at Dan while he plays games I've been watching Phil's liveshows for a while and he always uses "I", its his default word so I don't get the same impression that he's distancing from phan.

Dan's roast video: I think we'll all enjoy it. I remember the reaction to the meme video but it ended up being really funny. Dan's always is bold with his videos and that usually makes them enjoyable, even when the concept and creativity are lacking. He always includes moments like "editing tips", moments that we don't expect to ever get acknowledged. I really hope its Dan roasting DINOF and not DINOF roasting DINOF. If it's DINOF then I'll be scared to watch because DINOF reacting to anything (think loud screeching in childhood video) is the most annoying thing in the world.

Phil said he just helped with filming and emphasized that it isn't a collab so I think his contribution onscreen is pretty minimal. That AP vs DINOF would be amazing. I'm always intrigued on how they truly view each others content. Dan was a fan of Phil's content in 2009 but there has been a huge transformation in AP so I'm always curious on Dan's feelings. They both conformed their channels to fit these personas (sorry) with the #relatable meme and the #cinnamon bun plant child so did that effect their opinions on each others work. Do they still see the other as a good youtuber? Do they actually still enjoy watching each others solo content or do they critique it? Interesting that they didn't say they were each others favorite youtubers, were they just being coy or were they serious....

I actually think they wouldn't list each other because they consider everything they do a collaborative effort to a certain extent. I think they still handle the bulk of work on their independent channels but I think they do it with the other's input and oversight. So I could see them feeling enough ownership over each other's channels not to consider them in the running for 'favorite youtuber.'

I'm curious about Dan's new video (like the rest of you). I never saw any Roast Yourself vids before, so I just watched a whole bunch of them and I liked the ones by IISuperwomanII and Emma Blackery (haven't watched her in ages, but the diss was great) the best. In Grace Helbig's (which was okay), she dropped a line about how she'll never be Dan or Phil.

Dan's "A Message to My Younger Self" was basically him roasting his teenage self, but he did it so thoroughly that it left me feeling kinda sad after I first watched it.

Dan has definitely made digs about other youtubers content in the past that could very easily be applied to amazingphil's content.
Like when he chalked his hair purple in a liveshow and made a dig about how for some youtubers that would be good enough to be a main channel video (like say for example amazingphils dyeing my hair blue video lol). When the chat pointed out Phil did a video along those lines Dan was quick to point out Phil was doing a Q&A while dyeing his hair. Because you know adding a Q&A makes it an innovative idea ,right Dan? .
So yeah I think Dan is either secretly not that fond of a lot of Phil's content... or maybe his great fondness for Phil means that when Phil something he automatically thinks it's good despite what he thinks when it's any other youtuber.
