The stairs are definitely next to the desk. Check the lamp:


And considering they have labelled this living room/desk space "upstairs" and the gaming room/Phil's room/snug "downstairs", I don't think it's a storing bit of the apartment. Unless... it literally is?
Phil's room and the gaming room don't seem to have any windows. Maybe it literally is the basement that they built their sets in. Cause yeah, these stairs don't look as stylish as the rest of the place.

Let me add some fuel to the flames. Did anyone else think it was a bit odd that Anthony credited Phil as just "Phil" and not "AmazingPhil" in the Philthony collab even though Dan was "Daniel Howell" in the Danthony one? The video titles are wtf am i doing (ft. Phil) and Stop saying we look alike! (ft. Daniel Howell) respectively. I'm not saying Phil is going to rebrand to "Phil", but maybe he'll start going by Phil Lester or something.

Can I add even more fuel to this and say he's rebranding to Phil Howell and Anthony just didn't wanna give away the rebranding yet! Once Phil totally 1000% rebrands to the last name Howell, then the video title will change!!!! (side note, I've been loving all these "theories" on here the past few days!)

On a serious note, I don't know how much I actually believe in Phil drastically rebranding any time soon. D&P have quite firmly insinuated that Phil's branding and hair are not going to change even though Dan's did, and I don't know why they would bother to repeat it so many times if it weren't true. Then again, Phil has been quietly squeezing himself out of the PG box lately, so who knows what is going happen.

I feel silly now, but I was legitimately sitting here for a good few minutes, staring at PG, and trying to figure out what it stood for. In my mind, the P had to stand for Phil, so then what was the G? Well...

But yeah, I agree that I don't see Phil changing his branding anytime soon. As amazing (heh) as it would be... and now I'm just envisioning a beautiful future that only knows the YouTube channel Phil, ran by a man with a ginger quiff, wearing exclusively cozy sweaters or flannel, glasses all the time, curled up on the couch doing liveshows while holding his Daddy mug in both hands, giving a progress update on the Mark of Oxin sequel. His plants are thriving in the background.

EDIT: Also, am definitely appreciating all this A+ detective work with the stairs and stuff. I have zero spatial comprehension in general, much less trying to imagine a layout mentally, so thanks.

Oh, your 100% right, I hadn't noticed the lamp! It's weird, I didn't think the stairs would look like that, the metal railing really threw me off. And yes, I'm assuming the filming area with the lounge and Phil's bedroom is underground or at least has very little natural light.

They did say the new place has even weirder layout than the old one, but I still can't wrap my head around how they would need to take a lift to the flat and have underground space at the same time. Maybe they already live in the forever home and are just trying to throw us off by telling all these lift stories that make it look like they live in an apartment building. No, but seriously, I doubt the downstairs floor is underground because there were treetops visible in that one photo they took in the new lounge before the election.

I'm thinking penthouse apartment with mezzanine levels and these stairs go down to a front door. Or they lead to a corridor where other rooms come off of it.

They're testing how much of the new place we can work out, and realising that if they frame things in certain ways the same room can look like 2 different places. They're seeing how much Phil can get away with - I'm going to maybe guess his swearing being bleeped was to see the reaction to it. They're seeing how much they can show us. Phil's humour is getting more and more adult, not to the level of Dan but at least to a point where I find him funny and not just comforting?

Something is going to change soon. Be it #PhanWedding or be it Forever Home™ or anything else, I feel like this is building to a change. (I also feel like i'm waiting for some casual touching between D&P on the gaming channel - something undeniably affectionate)

i don't recall anyone posting this yet so: glad to see the ~creepshot war~ really is extending to their main channels now

i liked reading all of the different opionions on the video again in the day of the light. seems like it was a bit of a hit-or-miss, with apparently some correlation between liking it and having had an emo phase yourself. i'm also thinking that maybe it didn't hit the mark for everyone because while the content was of course completely different, the overacted style of the video was still quite similar to the collab on anthony's channel (which was fairly recent, too). so maybe it would have been better to wait a bit longer with the upload (i can't believe i'm saying this about dan but here we are).

i also feel like both videos were quite "anthony-heavy", as in, dan adjusted his style to match anthony's, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but of course most of us are watching for him. i suppose that's at least partially true for me as i thought the skits done in their apartment / with phil were the funniest.

in contrast, i didn't like the beginning of the video that much, and after revisiting yet, i think it's because for one, it's too similar to the "stop saying we look alike" opening, and i also think the camera angle / framing of the shots / audio isn't great. anyone else feel that?

don't fool yourself, the appointment clearly went through, phil has been wearing a wig since march and is ready to reveal his new self any time! "me and phil were doing a thing that you might eventually see" refers to them jointly deciding on a new Look. then in "that week", phil got his haircut, but after the mirror reveal, he decided the world wasn't ready for this yet and dan created a meticulous plan (june: make a curling vid, july: let me shame you for your emo hair, august: reveal your new true self). so when we ask dan about "that week in march" in the first august liveshow, he won't respond, but only shout "PHIIIIIIIIIW" and phil will march in to reveal his rebrand. it's all there...real eyes realize.

As a Dan girl, I didn't really vibe with this video. Liked a few of the scenes like with the joining the black parade remark, but it seemed a bit forced and like a nothingy sort of subject matter. Almost a bit of a waste of a collab because Dan and Anthony have such great chemistry and I'd have loved to see a sketch like Dan makes with Tomska, as opposed to them talking to the camera.

So wasn't really my fave video, probably wouldn't rewatch but I did appreciate the fact that Dan is putting a LOT more into his post-production and editing since his rebrand. I REALLY like that and I thought Phil's little cameos were hilarious. I do ADORE where Dan's channel is going, he's a really special creator I think but this is one of those videos where I think he's trying a little bit too hard to make something funny.

The house looks pretty though guys, am well jel. I'll just go back to flathunting for my shoebox in London then haha.

The glass on the left in the pic is a 1/2 wall of glass which runs along the side Dan's computer desk (where he does his live shows). The white wall on the right in the pic is also a 1/2 wall & that is the lounge where their gray couch is just on the other side of.

I could understand if their flat was a modern industrial place but that railing is the only thing that seems to be industrial so it really doesn't make sense.

Just my observations so far.

if Phil was gonna rebrand. What do you think he'd change? Isn't he due a video this week too?

I think he's targeting an older demographic with his rebrand. I'm 22 and that video was super relatable to me because I grew up during the 'emo' phase and got shit for it. (it was weird, 2006 EVERYONE IS A MOSHER EW, as soon as TBP happened, OMG DIE EMO SCUM). Yeah younger people would find it funny but the people who find it the most relatable are gonna have been teenagers in the late 00s, and Dan aint nothing if he aint #relatable. Maybe give it one more video, but I do genuinely think his videos with the outro are targeting people more my age (I'm gonna argue 18-29 demographic here) who are closer in age to Dan than 11-17 year olds. Look at the jokes in the Tinder #spon ffs!

I enjoyed Dan's video (though I do hope it is the last of the Phanthony collabs. I liked them, I just feel like they've run their course). When I got the alert yesterday (while out to eat with my husband's best friend and his wife who we are visiting) I was hoping for a slightly more serious, but still funny and skitty psa on bullying. A quick peak at Tumblr later in the day revealed lots of praise for the Phil dragging, so I adjusted my expectations.

I agree that the intro felt a lot like the first Danthony collab and some of those wall confessional bits felt over the top, but I think it was done well. I did like the skits they did separately (sleep walking and going to join the black parade, that g-note ls title was totally foreshadowing), but my favorite part was the triple force that was nail painting and hair straightening while singing, interrupted by Phil, on shame cam 3. Really any part with singing or music was gold.

I love the photos Dan chose. I was really hoping to see that 16 year old Dan selfie (at least I think he's 16, the lip bite one in the thumbnail and at 1:03, that I should definitely not like so much) after Phil showed Anthony's in Anthony, Dan or a Rat, and Dan said 16 year old Dan wished he looked like that. And the hanging out on the steps with the blurred out friends was quite a surprise. The only part that made me cringe was Dan's selfie freak-out (though I watched it back several times because moon room, but their too clever with their camera angles and it didn't reveal any more than the Wimbledan selfie).

Lovely choice of Phil photos as well. Ladybird selfie which is gorgeous and *not* cringe (and I'm hoping Dan knows this). I don't think anyone else mentioned Dan's word choice and image juxtaposition of Phil: "to go outside looking like that" (pina colada double straw drink Singapore date pic taken by Dan) "they must have no friends, no loved ones" (zoom in on high quality professional pug shirt photo of your man's beautiful eyes and ginger brows).
I found the discussion on emo vs lgbt discrimination interesting last night, but was too tired to join in (then didn't sleep well at all and got back on here before 6 am). I can see where it would be hard to know what to take seriously from this video. Most of us accept Dan's rock throwing and now exacto knife blade throwing stories, but obviously the eyeliner through the eye story is fake. Though I'm curious about its juxtaposition to "I had to explain to my dad what I was doing and he didn't understand" (paraphrasing sorry), because that part *could* be genuine. I just keep thinking about the story of the girl at Phil's school and it makes me grateful to have grown up in a relatively tolerant environment. I only got my locker vandalized once with a misspelled slur and I think the gothiest girl was generally well liked even if some people didn't understand her need to be "out there".

Anywho... those stairs freak me out (lack of risers and they appear to be suspended?!) I hope the kitchen is upstairs because I would not like to go downstairs for anything in the middle of the night in that place. I would definitely keep Phil upstairs with me too.

Very interesting observation re: the "Phil" credit. You all know I'm ready for new hair and a wedding, though I don't know how I feel about surnames. I prefer Howell aesthetically, but Dan is already basically a Lester. You would think they would want to keep their names professionally, though Phil is strong enough to carry one iconic name. "Phil". I like it.

I haven't watched TomSka's vlog, but I'm looking forward to his video at the end of the week. I'll probably be watching the liveshows very late (this leg of our vacation is very social). Ugh I don't feel well. I swear I had something funny to say that I thought of in the middle of the night, but it's not coming back to me. Oh well.

Oh! Oh! I remember! Re: the moving theories. Someone said Dan's musing about switching out the DVD box sets in his ls background was proof they were staying for awhile. What if one ls the shelves are empty and someone asks about it and he just says he's in the middle of "rearranging things", because he's already set us up for that. Eh? Sorry, I'm so tired.

I'm pretty relieved the Anthony collabs are over because I don't like his content. He seems nice enough, and deppy seem relaxed with him, which is good, but I really disliked that first collab with Dan. I know that's an unpopular opinion, I just found it really repetitive, and didn't find the improvised humour funny. I kinda liked this emo vid though, because as a former emo this was definitely Relateable Content.

Now onto the thing I actually want to talk about, I absolutely loved the Crash Bandicoot video . It reminded me of some of their older vids like Donkey Kong, and it was beautiful and I've already decided it's one of my favourite vids on the Gaming Channel. I mean I have about twenty favourites, but this is one of them.

I am STILL salty about Phil cutting Dan off when he sounded like he was about to talk about the first Crash Bandicoot video, after he said 'hearkens'. Not often am I desperate to hear the end of Dan's sentences, but of course the one time I am Phil interrupts him. Half of this damn video was quotable, honestly. "Our mum" was hilarious. Dan, afterward, "We're going CRAZY". I love that they put the horror-sound effect during that.

I think when Dan said he poked himself in the eye with an eyeliner pencil, he just jabbed it and it made his eye water so his dad noticed (the X-ray he used was grim as hell).

Having loved the video and watched it again, it's less fun to rewatch much really since the characters they're playing are a bit annoying, certainly I love Dan being himself telling a story, his sharp humour's very rewatchable when he's not being all glum. I like Anthony and his other videos, though I didn't go for the dating himself malarkey, that was too cringe.

I'd be up for a Phil rebrand in theory, I mean anything he wants to do is fine, but if he stopped dyeing his hair black, that would be a big change. I doubt he would suddenly do that since he's preferred to have it black all this time for a reason, but a quiff would be interesting. A shaggier fringe would look more relaxed, but I think we've said this a few times already.

Add me to the list of not a fan of their metal bannisters. It's all very modern so maybe that fits? I have a love-hate relationship with modern design, a lot of it is beautiful and minimal, but it can be a bit clinical too. It's growing on me, though. Our kettle recently sprung a leak, but a clear one with a blue light like Deps has cost a fair bit more than buying the same model again (good luck us).

I guess it's my Phil-trash heart talking, but I love his cute lil fringe, it makes his face look in such a peculiar way. He's one of a kind at the moment, and you can recognize him ASAP. However, I would love his hair to be more fluffy. My heart still beat faster when I look at 2009 videos because yes. All the yes no wonder lil Dan fell for that rugged Phil I would too

So I don't mind the fringe at all, I'd love some more..volume and a carefree look, not so glued to his head, but all in all I don't hate it. I don't mind the quiff and glasses look either, he looks older like that but like..a hot dad. Though I hate glasses myself and everything that hide those beautiful eyes can gladly f*ck off. I have a theory about the first ISG being Dan the most emotional and real he's ever been on his channel (and him and Phil breaking up at that point in time)

RE: Dan's video, I just rewatched it again and loved it more and more. The G note and "to join the black parade" bit will forever make me laugh.

I'm not wondering if this is the video he was talking about when he tweeted about "bloopers that we would enjoy"? The timing seems right since he's obviously been working on it since he came back from Vidcon. I'm really hoping for some bloopers, especially from the scenes filmed by Phil because I need more angles of their

What i DO want from Phil is more mature content. This includes swearing. Please please I can handle a 30yo swearing and making dirty jokes, that's all I want from Phil.

can I just say that I totally agree with you? it's like you read my mind because I wanted to make pretty much the exact same post I'm one of those people who just want Phil to do whatever makes him happy with himself and his content. I hope he doesn't feel too much pressure to change his looks or act differently, but if he himself wants to make changes in his branding just because he feels like that, then and also, I don't mind him not swearing on AP, from what I can tell it's his personal decision, so his main can stay PG13 if that's what he wants, I can respect that. but I see no reason to censor him on the gaming channel, since he has already had a few slip-ups. would be nice if he could balance Dan's constant shouting of swear words at least once in a while

I listened to the audiobook of Connor Franta's Note to Self this weekend and holy shit is it heartbreaking. The way he talks about his ex (Troye obvi) breaking his heart breaks my heart. I don't know if we'll ever get that, but those videos tend to be some of my favorites. I have no doubt they care about their audience and feel a significant bond with us. At the same time, I would love for a full-on, emotional, real video from deppy about something, anything. Maybe they have one you all consider to be like this, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. We know they have things to talk about- Phil lost a friend while in Uni, Dan was bullied. I just feel so much closer to YTers who get real.

I just watched it and yes, he's more emotional and real than a usual dinof vid, but idk. I recognize he's a bit more open but he masks it SO DAMN WELL that you really have to know him and his style to pick it out. I guess I am selfish and I want some personal stories goddamit.

I have to agree, though, I want more mature content from him. I really thought the aesthetic (and his clothes) in the "Anthony, Dan or a Rat?" video was much more mature, but I think that was a virtue of the background being Anthony's and not Phil's brightly colored room.

same here, the compilation is pretty telling, it cracked me up, especially the ending. you can see he tried so hard not to break his character this time, he literally growled at some point in the video

yeah, can't argue with that tbh, not that I think he's immature, but everything about Phil's collabs with Anthony was refreshing in a good way. I just can't see how he can even film anything in his new shoe box of a bedroom, I don't mind the bright colours, it's just I want more space and I definitely want more skits and more of Phil's adult humour, even if without swearing
