What is it that Flipside is/was doing for them? I assume organisation and negotiation of event attendance and spons?
In general agencies provide support for brand deals and the experience and contacts to get in touch with brands and opportunities like book deals, movies, tours etc. They're literal managers, suggest how to improve their income because the creator income is tied with their own. They want to keep the creator successful and also happy, so that they won't leave the agency.
One thing I've always been curious of is the durations of the contracts - I would assume they aren't very long term honestly, so I think it would be easy for creators to kind of slip away from an agency if the relationship isn't working anymore.
Dan and Phil were without a doubt the most successful and profitable talents at flipside (and in general, in the YouTube world I'd say, especially considering the British community) so I think whatever deal they got is pretty good. I've seen quite often with YouTubers that it's the manager that has to keep the talent happy, not the opposite
In TomSka's latest Last Week he and his friends play Truth Bombs (@7:50). He then has a quick and interesting talk about his income and how money relates to a viewer's relationship with a youtuber.
That was really interesting! I don't watch Tom but I appreciate his honesty and transparency in the clips that I've seen here and there.
Yeah, I only watch his main videos occasionally, but I will, more often, watch his Last Week vlogs. I generally find the behind-the-scenes stuff just as, if not more, interesting than the end product, but that's true for me for books, movies and tv, too. I love the nitty-gritty process, planning, and business side of things. It's fun to see how things are put together and work.

Bit off topic but I'm now binge-watching Safiya Nygaard videos, having never seen a single one before a few hours ago...I her!
I wonder if we'll get a D&P video tonight...I definitely feel a little deprived if they go more than 3-4 days without uploading anything, which is daft I know!

That was pretty interesting. Tomska is pretty unique in how he tries to be honest to his audience about a broad range of topics. I think his vlogs are his best content. If only he could inpire Dan and/or Phil to do the same. 30 minutes of honest content about their life every week, sign me up Sometimes I wish less people in the fandom would care so much about their relationship and how they looked at each other and instead were more focussed about getting to know them and what they do. All the fan interest for golfing with friends and dogshoots keep them neatly chained in a nicely branded box.
One they profit of immensely - i'm sure.

We've been so spoiled
I'm hopeful for new content but of course my expectations are always low. Fingers crossed. I feel like I miss them. Which makes me feel so silly.

I couldn't agree more. Sometimes it's so annoying when everything they do somehow ends up being about their sexuality or relationship. I wish we would talk more about the actual content in other contexts. And ironically the same people tell not to romanticize Dan's depression, while romanticizing everything else. I know I'm guilty as charged, but still.
I also hope they'd give us (deeper) content to talk about, lol.
Ooh, voluntarily family mention... unsurprisingly about his mum. How many years now has it been since Dan even acknowledged that he has a father?

If anyone's curious about the next gaming video...
EDIT: I've just checked and the expansion pack is coming out on November 10 apparently.. so I guess new sims video in the weekend?

Does dan have a contentious relash with his dad?

Yeah fair enough (assuming it's the pets pack for the Sims) but do another game in the meantime *cough* Dream Daddy

Oh boy, he's talking about the Sims pets expansion pack which comes out on Friday and knowing them it'll probably take like two days to edit, so no gaming video any time soon
Oh and in regards to Dan's parents, I was wondering whether Phil ever sees them. I know Dan usually celebrates Christmas with his family and occasionally goes to other family gatherings (like the barbecue earlier this year) and I'm sure Phil has met his parents but has he visited them (or the other way around) recently or for longer than a day? Sorry if I sound ignorant, I'm not quite up-to-date with the Dan and Phil history :')

That is actually so precious but oh boy I already feel deprived of content I was really hoping we'd get a video tonight but I guess Dan will have lots to talk about in his live show tomorrow with spooky week and dog calendar. We had so much content in so little time that I can't believe it's only been a week since Halloween wow
I guess if they're waiting for the expansion to be released then Phil will be in London till at least the 10th? Hmmm. It really feels weird that it seems like he's not going to Florida. I was almost wondering if they might pre-film stuff, pinof included, but they haven't even asked for questions yet so.. I don't know what to think.
They've been quiet though, and that is making me wonder if there's any surprise coming

Do they know that they can film something ... that isn't the sims... in the meantime ?
Hope this extension is worth the wait (probably won't be tho, I mean, it's still the sims... plus no dog content can beat the calendar now - unless they get an actual dog)
Guess Dan's tweet also means they (Phil) definitely aren't going to Florida if they're gonna be home to film it in 4 days.
edit : oops liola you already said almost the sane thing sorry ! but yeah I really don't think he's going now, even if he leaves tomorrow, Martyn would have already been there for like a week and it doesn't really make sense for Phil to go after the 10th ? but yeah it's surprising anyway

Ooh, Pets expansion, I’d forgotten about that. Cue all the squeeing from both of them, and us at them.
Dan’s tweet is funny, I love his short “mum no” reply. Even if did like llamas still, it’s a bit big for his slightly more minimalist aesthetic (I’m not sure he really went for that, but he mentioned it once ) and tbh it’s face is a bit scary. Reminds me when I was very little some relatives gave me a 4ft stuffed bunny (almost looked like Bugs, but not) and there was also a cat nearly the same size, maybe meant to be Sylvester. I love the cartoons and characters, but the toys were so big I was pretty scared of them, kept them in the wardrobe for years and gave them away the first time I had a clearout.

Really hope Dan just misunderstood the question or badly phrased his answer and he wasn't saying it'll be at least a week before we have another video. I'm craving... something, idk. Gaming something. I'd be totally okay with them remembering Dream Daddy exists.

What if phil actually left for florida yesterday and they're using the fact that they're waiting for the expansion pack as an excuse? If he stays there for like a week, they can film the sims next monday or even late sunday and have it up by tuesday... I guess they think we can handle a week without content after they posted every day for like 10 days.
We'll see if phil cancels his liveshow on thursday...

lowkey off topic but it’s november so.... i need to just let it out of my system and say that i’m really not looking forward to pinof this year.
phil’s shoebox of a room is too small to film it and it’s going to feel Off i can already tell.
like, filming pinof in a “set” loses a lot of the charm and i’m scared
i kinda wanna hear what you guys think too tbh bc i’ve been thinking about pinof 9 a lot lately ;;

Yup. If i'm craving anything it's just the deeper, more genuine content. I've got the feeling they might crave that too, they must be getting tired of staying in the branded box? They've been basically producing the same content for years now. Their video's are starting to sound like film series that just don't die. PINOF 23, Internet support group 5965. Next Dil and Dab will be having children and they can just keep the same thing going as much as EA likes to milk the players with a zillion expansions.
It's not that I don't enjoy their content, but it could be more creative. I'm thinking about he LS where Dan was telling how he wants Danisnotonfire vids on his main channel to meet his own personal quality treshold, and how he has a lot of ideas but waits for the right time to work them out, the time to research. I appreciate that effort, but feel like his heart is only half in it because they occasionally just also go for the "quick and dirty" content.
What do people think about the creative direction their channels are going?
Also, cuz I support moms teasing their youtube celeb sons: here's a certain song he used to sing so endearingly but likes to delet now he's Reborn

STIll working out to use this site so excuse if I’m doing this wrong. I never really understand the excitement when it comes to pinof now because it’s never gonna be what it was back in the Forster two. There was no forced “fan service” oh get them to recreate a gay couple from this show etc it wasn’t just them answering random questions. So I can’t say I’m excited for it. Also I wish dan would bring more personal content into his youtuber Channel, I know that he is never completely serious but now we have seen him open up about husband mental health we can see he can still keep his humour while the subject being person and helpful to people who relate. I want more topic to do with being queer, I know he’s not out but I wanna know more about his struggles with identity and finding it hard to denfine himself. And I mean really hoping this is the content we get. I wanna know what it was like going to a all boys school, I know this is selfish content but I wanna see conent I relate too.

Yeah, same. I'm not into the new bedroom, it's too small for them to move around at all.
Though for me, I've gotten less excited with every pinof. Like as it goes on, it gets less and less like the cute little spontaneous q&a that it started as, and more and more formulaic. The questions have all started to become the same and they're relying on the gif-able moments to make the videos interesting.
This is kind of stupid to propose on a website like this, and I don't mean to insinuate that this is in any way likely, but I was wondering what people think of the possibility of them ever leaving YouTube? They don't really seem to have much enthusiasm making original content, sometimes only filler, they only seem to enjoy making gaming videos, but even that is debatable. I was thinking of earlier this year, when dan and phil crafts ended, and it ended well and at a good time, but still the end of an "era". Then, just recently that they announced that this was the last calendar they made. It's kind of the small things. That they don't like running ideas into the ground (cough cough ISG cough cough)and usually end things before they become repetitive and stale. I bet they are mean enough not to continue after PINOF10.
I know that they have said that they'll always want to make videos, but Phil wanted to become a film director and look where's he at, he said he'd never end Draw Phil Naked and yet he did. The fact is, he and Dan move on from things, they grow tired and have new ambitions. I was just wondering when it would reach the point they decide to close the chapter of their lives online, or even just on YouTube. They don't seem to have any much enthusiasm anymore to create very consistent content, and they do technically have three channels, but I think you'd be a bit biased if you really don't admit that their upload schedule is quite spotty. I know that the level of effort they put into videos and the frequency of their uploads depends person to person, but I'd just like to point out that them doing YouTube for the rest of their lives is highly unlikely, and there is bound to be a day where the last video is uploaded.
I know a lot of people really anticipate them moving into their forever home and getting a dog, etc, and good for them, but does anybody really believe they'd continue on making videos once they reach this period?

This is an interesting post, but I actually feel like the little changes they make prove the opposite of what you're going for here. I think that if you want to have a long running career that satisfies you on multiple levels then you have to constantly be making adjustments to try and eliminate the parts of your job that bother you or drain you. That is more what I see them doing - shaping what youtube is to them and the role that their job has in their life to something long term sustainable. They want it to be financially viable and regular video making is how that happens on youtube now, so they focus more on the content that is easier and more enjoyable for them to make regularly; they originally started out leaning heavily on their own merch sales but now they've built an expanded empire of merch with the IRL Store and can make things that they find fun and creative to make; they don't want their online personalities to stay stagnated in who they were five, six, seven years ago so they evolve over a period of time (rip Draw Phil Naked, rip danisnotonfire, rip innocent-cinnamon-roll-Phil).
I also think them moving this year is a big indicator that they're making adjustments that make it easier for them to continue youtube indefinitely, as well. They've made sharing certain areas of their home purely voluntarily as opposed to the necessity it was before, due to a limited amount of space. To me them picking a place to live in with dedicated filming spaces shows that they've planned things out with youtube as their career in mind. The older they get the more full other areas of their lives will be, youtube will likely become more of the job we do and less of the all consuming driving direction of their lives. But I don't think that goes hand in hand with leaving youtube entirely.
I'd be more worried about them leaving youtube if nothing ever changed, basically. Because if that were the case it would be obvious that what they do on youtube was becoming less and less reflective of who they are as people in a personality-based career field and I'd see the implosion as inevitable.
(Which is not to say that I don't think they'd ever leave. I just think that should they leave it would be a more natural side effect of the platform itself eroding away.)

Okay, your post is definitely very reassuring, and definitely a perspective I didn't think of. Though, I still wonder what direction they are steering their content and if it will be self-sufficient. Then again, money isn't exactly an objective. I just wonder if they will continue to aim for higher projects (basically just anything off the platform) and/or if they would ever entertain the idea of vlogging (lol, probably not). I guess we have to wait and see. I think my main concern was coming from one of their most popular creations (the calendar) is drawing to a close, and it makes me wonder if their ventures will start to decrease, or if they have more ideas on the horizon. They are difficult to predict, and I'm on the fence whether I feel they will make semi-regular content, or whether they would eventually drift into obscurity
