Popping in to represent the #phanaf contingent. I'm here for their chemistry and them together, not so much the content. They aren't good enough youtubers on their own for me to stick around just for individual content, so I'm here for as long as their dynamic together remains accessible and entertaining for me. (Plus the obvs emotional attachment to the relationship aspect.)

to anyone who was affected
i won't be upset with them if they choose to stay silent but i do hope they say something. this might come across badly, but i hope dan especially says something, who in the past year has really aligned himself with the community (by admitting attraction to men and being a public figure, not saying he's done some massive ordeal, just that he's braved this far in coming out).
tbh tho, i don't care if he says something or not. theres a lot happening, and showing solidarity is nice, but most people aren't focused on which celeb said what rn, and neither am i.
(i say this, but know that something from dan would mean a helluva lot to a large portion of the phandom that doesn't id as straight. we shall see)

To put it simply: because it would indicate a complete disconnection with the real world just to stay on their "no drama, no worries" brand.

honestly theres a chance they feel/were warned against mentioning it for safety purposes, even if its more about inner anxieties than genuine risk. most people who will be read as not straight wont have a live show soon after showing support for the victims. its terrifying stuff, if they dont mention it for that reason, id support them. theyre not straight allies, wont be seen as that, and wont be sitting comfortably in their home just being upset about it.
i know that i and other closeted/quiet not-straight people would keep quiet as hell if there was a homophobic incident at school or in the local community, because if people already doubt you then support can = you as a target. when the level is this high, i completely accept them remaining quiet to not feel worried.

wow, i never thought of that. wow. that adds another, sadder layer to this tragedy.

They will probably say something on the internet, they are in america so they should be aware of what happened but would I be upset if they aknowledged it on social media? no.
jaej maybe you have a point, before I thought it was an isolated psyco but now it was confirmed to be isis, so security measures surely will be raised.

Exactly, and its not only them, they have an audience of over a thousand kids there too…I mean, I don't think it would necessarily make them a target, and maybe they will tweet something, but I think these are all things they would be considering.

I agree with this. I also think they may stay silent for safety reasons, not just their own, but their audience and the crew. I would assume that their management would encourage this. And if it meant protecting not just themselves I think that would be the big reason for not saying anything. Just aligning with something that could be taken as not straight and being in a large group could be making a target. That being said, if they were home, or at least not on tour I think wholeheartedly they would acknowledge it.
I also think they really would have nothing to worry about. It is pride week and it is awful to say but they would definitely be low on the target list. Their audience is mainly young, and so not thought of as LGBTQ+ identifying yet, even if a lot of them are.
Side note: I work for a large international corp, and I am in charge of the campus. I called security today to make sure our flags are lowered to show respect and solidarity. It is a small thing but, it is something I could do to show those driving by that we are thinking of those effected by the tragedy in Orlando. (I really want to say in the US, not just Orlando, and to that I want to say, in the world and not just Orlando, or the US, because we are all effected whether or not we are connected to the community or not.)

One side of me feels really frivolous and disrespectful with the victims and their families just by linking this topic with Dan and Phil.
I agree to a certain point with all the opinions said on this matter. This is an awful thing to write, but Dan and Phil are already a target for fucked up, homophobic, armed psychos, and even more if radical islam is involved, because they are two progressive thinking guys, from the UK, with millions of Europeans and Americans as audience.
They have a show tonight. Let's see how it goes...

That was good of you. Apparently the flags in my hometown are flying at half-staff today. I'm not in the US right now so I can't see for myself, but it makes me feel a little better nonetheless.

i dont mean they are actually targets over anyone else, i mean that of course its possible for them to still feel anxiety over it and want to minimise their own worry.
guns arent legal where i live and if i masc it up a bit then i'll blend in, but i've cancelled my plans to go out over the next couple of days just due to being paranoid and incredibly afraid. i'm not going out at night for a while and dont even want to during the day. im more paranoid than most people, but its a real fear and if they feel uncomfortable and want to stay quiet then i cant judge them.

to all of this
also, tank you for taking these steps
also: for everyone saying that they wouldn't tweet because of 'no drama' policy: The no drama is towards things like ghostwriting by zoella and not about tragedies. They often tweet about things that matter, they have tweeted tin the past and will tweet in the future, eg. yesterday about Christina, in the past about the us legalizing gay marriage.
I won't think any less of them for not tweeting, and I agree that it might have to do with security issues or even something like me who just barely can think about the issue without feeling very badly emotionally.
I really dislike when people go all out on 'they HAVE to talk about this political issue/tragedy even if they don't want to because they have a huge following and need to set an example' because it isn't always about that, they already are a good example everyday and have strong morals, if they can't address a specific topic every once in a while it doesn't means that they still don't actively try and make themselves a good exempla (ex. both of them have stated they're feminists and every other live show they talk about issues like that and give advice to people and just generally try and use their platform for good things)

do we have any proof it was ISIS? i think it really was just one isolated psycho, ISIS has a tendency to claim all terror attacks as their own whether they did them or not. just to make people more scared.
this news is absolutely terrifying and devastating. my heart goes out to florida.[/offtopic]
i don't blame D&P for keeping quiet/staying on the down low. 100% agree with jaej +winston.
christina grimmie's murder being recent also wouldn't be helping. it's a major headfuck all the way around.

I hate when people bring their otp in this kind of issues, the loveislove tag is trending rn on twitter and people are making it about their otps, I hate this. And their management is milking them ? Girl pls, you're in the wrong fandom. And I agree with the fact they might have not acknowledged it for safety purposes

If they keep quiet I doubt it'll be because of a 'no drama' policy. They said something about Christina's murder yesterday. If they don't say anything it'll be because of other reasons, whatever those are.
It's terrible what happened in Orlando. My thoughts are with the victims, their family, friends and the LGBT community. What a shit weekend this has been

This always happens when a country legalizes gay marriage (or doesn't like in South Korea recently). When gay marriage got legalized in the UK people freaked out about Johnlock WHO AREN'T EVEN REAL PEOPLE??? Fangirls sometimes really live up the their bad reputation damn.
