Long time lurker, first time posting here. I just noticed that in the vidcon website, Dan has been shown as a featured creator..But there's no sign of Phil.

Thoughts??
I had checked the site a couple of days back and at that time neither Dan nor Phil was featured there...But now it shows only one of them.

Also, did Phil confirm in any of his recent younows that he's going? I remember Dan mentioning vidcon Us in one of his but don't remember anything from Phil.

PS: English isn't my 1st language so sorry for any mistakes..
It's in June, right? Phil's newborn child will only be about a month old, he will need Daddy's attention. 8-)

Phil's babymama gonna want him to be around.

1. It's a mistake
2. Phil has a secret project for that time
3. Phil is secretly leaving YouTube soon
4. As said already, he will be looking after his secret baby.
5. #phan divorce

I have to wonder if #phangate is nothing but a ploy for Phil to do his own meme video for 2017?

he would never address a "meme" like this anyway, because it has to do with his private life. when was the last time he said anything about being single (unironically, not like in the gaming videos where he's talking about characters)? this shit would require confirming that he doesn't have a wife/gf or that he has one.

He's never said anything about being married with a baby on the way, either. Let's admit it, his private life is completely off-limits, which is why phangate is so funny. Oh, and the fact the writer is under the assumption they don't get a copy of the contract they signed unless they ask for it AND that they assume non-disclosure ends when the contract does. :D

obviously. i mean that for it to be talked in a meme video, it has to be funny, but it can only be funny if it's 100% confirmed that he has no wife or baby on the way. but he won't tell us.

the phangate blog has already tagged their post(s) with "parody" and "phanfiction", so... :sobs: the fun's over.

Dang, that was fun while it lasted...

EDIT: yep, I see the #parody and fanfiction tags in the first few posts.

Well done!

idk and I were discussing this on Twitter yesterday, but I thought I’d post it here too, for posterity’s sake:

I deciphered the blurred message in this picture (tweeted by Dan on 29 January 2012):
It says:
  • Sounds good to
    Me! Also we should maybe
    mention that we may be
free on the 11th if al
    cancels and we’l hopefully
    find that out tomorrow
Presumably they were talking about March 11th, 2012, and the "Al" in question was Phil’s cousin Al, whose March birthday Phil once referenced in a tweet saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY COUSIN AL."

According to another one of his tweets, Phil did hang out with Martyn and Cornelia on the 11th, so presumably Al didn’t cancel.

Anyway, this is related to nothing, but I wanted to have a record of this transcription somewhere haha. :)
Oh, interesting. So do we know/think that Dan hung out with Phil and his cousin too?
I hadn't actually thought about it from that angle, but now that you mention it, it does seem likely that Dan hung out with them too, given the way Phil says "we may be free" and "we'l hopefully find that out"! Aww.
If Dan did go with, that would be cute.
I think Dan did go with, according to this tweet from Cornelia which was posted on March 9th 2012 : Image
Awww! Good find!

(Side note - I'm unreasonably amused by the little quirks of this text message: the way "Me!" is on the next line, like he just accidentally pressed "enter" and couldn't be bothered to backspace or undo the automatic capitalization... the way "we'll" is spelled "we'l"... the general formality of it... etc.)

Someone mentioned that vidcon might be releasing featured creators in some sort of alphabetical order and that seems about right as right after a certain letter (ether L or M or somewhere along there) the amount of featured creators suddenly drops significantly per first name letter. And it's worth noting that when dan talked about vidcon he always said we and us when referring to going so I don't see this as Phil isn't going at all, yet. Ether dan will talk about why it only list him tonight in his live show or wait for the vidcon site to update their page. I could've sworn the same thing happened last year or something but then hours later phil was added?

I was thinking the other day about how much of a drop in income deppy will have this year without the regular heavy merch pushes at TATINOF shows, the absence of anything published, and no show tickets.

I'm assuming the double-streaming effort is to try and recoup some of that. Considering some of the top fans on younow are paying in the area of $1000 (possibly up to $1400) a month each, and they're now monetizing on youtube as well, I anticipate there won't be that many skipped livestream weeks in the upcoming year.

(I've also seen some people say there are more ads on videos now, too. Would that be their doing or youtubes?)

I mean, last year will have been a lot more earnings than previously for D&P, so actually this will be kind of 'back to normal' I guess? Also, they'll have residual sales of merch and books just because all that stuff is now out there. Definitely do agree that monetizing the younows could be a new move to get some more money, or they wanted to do it earlier but didn't want to look to some people even more like sell outs?

I don't remember exactly where, but one of the Green brothers explained how Youtube ads work recently, and it really clearly covered all of it and basically said that creators are lying if they say they're not choosing to have longer/more ads, it's literally all options they select. I'll try and find the link

Have Dan and Phil ever actually talked about ads in their videos?

OT: I know D&P are all about "La La Land" and want to see "Moonlight," but this Aziz Ansari SNL sketch (check out his monologue too) last Saturday night pretty much sums up my feeling on these two Oscar noms:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abn6cPxrc5w

They should try to see "Lion," "Fences," "Hidden Figures," Hell and High Water." Much better movies. "Manchester By the Sea" was also pretty good.

Turns out it was a really long set of tweets, so they're in a spoiler:
As far as I'm aware the boys haven't ever mentioned it really? The only advertising related discussion I can think of is the #spon situation with the Oreo video

Well they would only really need to make earning that amount the status quo for every year if they had made life changes that dramatically increased their cost of living and it was now more expensive for them to maintain their lifestyles.
And honestly unless they have bought a secret house (or two) I personally can't really imagine that going back to what they made before is going to hit them hard. Despite Dan's expensive taste in clothing and the fact they probably pay a ridiculous amount of rent for that flat in London I would probably still put my own money on the fact that pre TABINOF and TATINOF D&P were already making considerably more then the level they spend at.

That being said they are hardly in a secure line of work and youtubers can fall out of favour mighty fast so I'd understand if they want to make as much money as possible while they are still relevant so that's not to say they won't be trying to find ways to make as much out of this as possible for as long as the iron is hot.
However I imagine TATINOF/TABINOG/DAPGO are more like money towards the nest egg(s) for them and they can more then afford to make less than they made at the height of these ventures.

Also I might be making this up but I'm sure some youtuber may have mentioned recently that ad money is at an all time low so an increase in adverts may just be that they are paying less than they used to? Plus unlike a lot of youtubers D&Ps fanbase is loyal enough that they probably know they can pile on the adverts and a good percentage of their fans will not abandon watching where I imagine for some creators that is a major concern and reason to keep ads at a reasonable level.

Wow that is really interesting, I actually thought it was Youtube that randomnly selects if you get ads and where in the videos they are placed. Thanks for this very informative.

The double ad thing is interesting - no one seems to know if it is youtube, the networks, a glitch, or malware causing the double ad's. (from the few minutes of research I did). I watch ad's and I am experiencing the double ad thing, but the people like NerdCubed who usually rage at the fact that more ad's have been added to their videos are staying silent. Either they don't know or don't care, but usually they at least say something to let us know.

Philly have you heard about noise pollution? I think you should move asap, just saying *cough*

About their profits, if they aren't too busy with their life things, I think maybe it's the time to film another interactive adventure. I always thought this type of proyects are a good invest of time, you know, a bunch of videos that should be watched one after another again and again, but as the majority of those videos should be unlisted, I don't know how much money they would make from them. Has anyone done the maths of this kind of project?

Pretty interesting those tweets from Hank, thanks! bluebox-away

I like that the non-skippable ad option has a warning that it may increase viewer abandonment. How to convince your audience to use adblock or unsubscribe in one easy step!

Oh yeah I figured that out but I'm glad hank explained it

also if anyone mentions any sort of code at all, referral or discount, they're getting a share of revenue

even if they say they haven't been paid to include it they are still being paid when people use the code

some people just forget that

also shortened links too, they don't shorten them for aesthetic
