I don't know if this question sounds a bit stupid, but in the case of dan and phil, is not believing in them being together and still participating in fanart and fanfics still shipping? I guess in other fandoms you know the two people p much aren't together. Also, another question, if one does believe that they are together, wouldn't speculation/fanart/fanfics be an invasion of privacy, because to that person they would technically be writing/creating/speculating about an actual relationship?

Sorry if these are super naive questions but I've never really been in many fandoms before and for sure never encountered something like the phandom so I'm insanely curious.

I won't swear on this, but I'm pretty sure the major ships back in the day were fictional. You know, couples from Star Wars and shit. So where the definition used to be "wanting two people in a relationship, usually romantic" this definition has changed a bit since it became more and more popular to ship real people. And real people aren't the same as tv show characters - you can pick up hints of a relationship, but the writers of the show will usually never lie to you if asked if two characters are in a relationship, because why would they? So there's not so much of a "are they, aren't they" in fandoms for fictional content because they normally already know and then they can go on making their own headcanons. Whereas in real life, someone like zoella could say she's not with Alfie and a year down the line they've been outed as being together. So there's a much bigger element of "sure we ship them, but we also believe they're genuinely together" in fandoms such as Dan and Phil's and since these fandoms have gained in popularity, the overall definition of shipping has been majorly blurred. Especially when a lot of people call themselves a shipper in the fandom when really they mean they both ship phan and believe it's real, but who wants to ramble on like that? Plus, it creates an even bigger divide in fandoms where everyone's already at war with stupid stuff like "no, Hermione was white!11!".

A lot of people still say that it's just wanting people to be in a relationship, however, since it's the most common definition and as far as I know, the original one.

So, 1) Yes, it technically is still shipping, though some would argue that you must not want them to be together/enjoy the thought of it that much if you're willing to say they're not together in reality, even with there being substantial proof out there.

2) This is actually more controversial than some of us would know because the Phandom is a big one, and newbies can be pretty sheltered in that so many of us ship Phan, we hardly see people telling us not to, either because they feel it's wrong or because they don't believe it has any substance to it. In theory, no, shipping is not invading someone's privacy - but like many theories, in reality, it's not so good. To write realistic fanfiction, some say you have to learn more about the people you're writing about. You know, their families, their work, where they live, certain videos that won't be named.... That, of course, is an invasion of privacy that you could say was directly caused by the need to ship and to write fanfiction. Furthermore, a lot of people who ship Dan and Phil also say this includes thinking they're actually a couple, and in people's need to know the truth and so on, they might further invade their privacy by trying to find more 'proof'. So, yeah, it depends how you think of it.

I've now gone full circle and convinced myself that this whole Week in March/August/Secret Project/D&P Convention/moving house etc etc business is going to be a massive damp squib and it'll just be another ISG . Part of me knows that something must surely be brewing but I don't want to get my hopes up. Just post some videos guys so I can be distracted from my pondering!!

I'm confused about the whole live show thing too - I know Dan has said that he might pop into Phil's show on Thursday but has he confirmed that there won't be one tonight? I don't stalk his twitter replies so miss stuff like this quite easily.

I am managing my expectations. Really, they are probably just busy with family stuff that we will never be party to, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with moving, conventions, the release of a Mark of Oxin game or any other exciting thing. I agree they are very quiet, and it's a bit weird... but y'know, it's just as likely that they're just going through a lazy phase and taking long naps on the nice new couches in the nice new apartment so they can't be bothered to post.

I'm rewatching videos, and just saw the old photos vid of Phil's and saw the SIM card ad. Did anything actually come of that? I've never seen the photos or audio things from it.

The thing that annoys me most about this survey is that there are options that fragment the answers - I wish with the 'what do you think their relationship is' the question had been split up into 'together at any point, friends always, don't care' and then from that we got the 'recently together/together once/always together' etc. (maybe thats just how my brain works though but I would infinitely prefer to be looking at that)

I never thought i'd want raw data and SPSS but here we are.... Dan and Phil really do make me want to torture myself

Personally, I'm a big fan of the motto 'sometimes a tweet is just a tweet'.

That is a great motto and honestly I stand by it most of the time too. These guys sure are clever and know how to work with their fans, but I don't think they're constantly pulling some strings and dropping hints.

The lack of knick-knacks is actually what I find the most "suspicious" in this situation. I know they have #somuchstorage now, and there's probably a lot that we don't see, but it still seems a bit odd. For example, the AmazingPhil set up looks similar to Phil's old room, but apart from the sheets and the Howl's Moving Castle art on the wall, everything is new. The knick-knacks on the dresser (or w/e it's called) are like mock-ups of the ones in the old room: they look similar and you probably didn't notice them being different on the first glance (I didn't), but they aren't the same. I also don't believe for a second that Dan would give up his GW2 shrine. Where did all the stuff go? Is the moon room a set up as well as the AmazingPhil room? Do they have a secret floor they haven't even mentioned us? Did the people that rented a storage for their fan gifts so that they wouldn't need to throw them away somehow get emotionally unattached to their old stuff? Do they already have a house where all the old stuff is? Did Janice have pregnancy cravings for Phil's knick-knacks?

WhAT is HaPPeninG? WheRe is eVERytHiNg?

As for the lounge situation, iirc, Dan mused in his first solo ls in the new place that maybe they could now both have have their own lounges so that they could play different games at the same time or something.

I think the knick-knacks Phil used to have on his background are maybe displayed in the lounge. Because I don't think he spends much time in his bedroom, he's probably there pretty much only when filming or sleeping (if he sleeps there, idk), so if the things he used to have on his background are something he enjoys seeing, they're probably somewhere where he spends more time. And the things he has on his bedroom are something not so important and mainly there for him to have something on the background of his videos. Or the old things are on the part of the room we don't see, at least a doll he used to have on his background is on the right side of his bed in hair curling video. Or maybe he just wanted some change and didn't dare to change his background before the move, thinking people are very attached to it being the way it's been for a long time? So many possibilities, so little answers.

I've totally missed Dan saying that! Makes sense though.

I think there's genuinely too much hype for them to not do anything at this point. Maybe Mr. Daniel Hype Howell just over exaggerated the March thing, and now they're having one of their 'pyjama weeks,' and it's all just bad timing. But surely they've seen the hype they've created, so maybe now they're quickly trying to come up with something to not leave people disappointed.

I'm all lit of theories at this point. Just extremely reaching now while we wait for them to do their thing. (I hope this post makes sense, it's been a reallyyyyy long day).

I really liked the Mark Of Oxin release theory btw, I'd love for that to be an actual game that people can play.

I'm really wondering what the hell they're up to. I'm trying to keep my expectations super low so i'm either pleasantly surprised or at least not disappointed, but the hype and the theories have been so wild that it's kinda hard to.

At this point I just want a video, I'm in need of some content. How did we survive before gamingmas and the kinda-regular schedule they started in the past months?

I'm not sure why everyone's complaining about content. Last week we got the sleepless night with Phil on Sunday and dream daddy on Tuesday, which is a pretty normal upload schedule for them? maybe it's because I've been busy in the past week but I have no problem with this amount of content. Two videos a week is pretty good but maybe it's because we're hyping this whole week in march thing? I'd like to say that I never ever thought they'd announce anything as soon as they hit august, just sometime this month. Also I'm gonna play a little bit of devils advocate here with the whole "dans not doing a live show today" he didn't actually say that as of yet.

the reply was just saying that maybe they could do a joint thing this week since neither of them did one last week. Dan might have forgotten Phil does his live shows after him or whatever.
While I do think there's probably something happening, i don't want to hype anything up just yet. And maybe because of that, to me, everything still seems relatively normal to me, since I'm not reading into any of it as much.

I think the most realistic options for their current project is either another book, stage show, youtube red show or convention.

My dream though would be mobile version of mark of oxin and a sequel to it, but I don't think it's at all likely to happen, not now at least.

Anyways! I have never been on board with the whole "release the Mark of Oxin game". Making a game for any platform (PC, console, mobile) is a huge effort. Sure, the video was adorable but it's not actually a good game. It lived off the quirkiness, the music/pop references (hello copyright) and of course of Dan praising Phil for 40 straight minutes. I don't see D&P becoming game publishers any time soon.

I saw a lot of people on tumblr quite convinced they're gonna post a Sim video today, how do we know that? Did they talk about it, along Dan saying for sure he won't do a liveshow? How did I miss this things

The hype has all been created by us. I remember Dan saying something a whole two times and we've picked it up and run with it. A full video game would take about 3 years to make and all of the ideas of what it could be have grown out of our thoughts, nothing that they've said.

It has only been a few days since the last video, though they have seemed a bit quiet. I think cos we had all of the collabs with Anthony before that for a few weeks, maybe that just boosted their output for a while.

I'm hoping Dan does a liveshow of his own tonight, though. It's way different from him popping into Phil's especially just for a few minutes.

What I don't understand is why Dan would mention doing so many videos and then upload so little. In his last liveshow he mentioned filming Sims, golf with friends, candle haul, livegaming and dream daddy, which is the only one that was actually uploaded. If he knew he was going to be so busy because of a project reveal, why mention/ hype us for all of the content he was going to make (and soon too: if I remember correctly he said he would film all of the gaming vids he mentioned that week (which is two weeks ago)). I'm a confused, content starved mess.

I definitely think liveshow or gaming vid. In case of neither I will rebel (who's with me?)
