+1 for being a lurker. I've only made a few posts here and on GG. I don't think I have anything particularly interesting to add so I sit back and stalk this site haha

As for getting bored with them, I've been since 2010 and am a full grown middle aged nose pervert now. I don't see myself getting out of the phantom anytime soon. If anything I'm more invested now since discovering IDB. It's too cringey on Instagram/Twitter for my taste. I saw a post where someone was complaining because "OmG I can't go to TATINOF bEcAusE my mom HATES mE!!1! My liFe Suxxxx". Reminded me just how old I am compared to the major demographic.

Also, I saw a video from the M&G and a girl was freaking out because Dan said he loved her hair. Guess he hasn't updated his generic fan compliments for the USA

I'm sad that Ice Cream Cake isn't on there anymore, mostly because when I first saw it on the UK playlist last year I wondered how the hell that ended up there. I know Dan has had a bit of a kpop phase but I don't think he ever really kept up with groups and lost interest in general after 2013? So it's weird a newer group like Red Velvet is on there, as only kpop act as well. You'd think he would go for the obvious boy group choices like SHINee or EXO something. Didn't he once mention Lucifer was his favorite kpop song?

Or did Dan read the controversy about the double entendre lyrics you get when you translate the song? If so, bad naughty Dan. (jk)

Surprisingly no Toxic or Thinking Out Loud for America, apparently! Though the current USA playlist on spotify is only 19 songs long and the UK one was 30 songs, so it might not be the whole thing.

i found the playlist really cringey and the singing at the start is about 30% of my reason for not going, a room of teenagers singing and screaming about twenty one pilots literally sounds like absolute hell but im still impressed they managed to cater and cover for so many people.

he kind of had 2 kpop phases: late 2010-mid 2012 shinee/suju/snsd phase, then the 2012-2013 2ne1/bigbang phase. the most recent mentions he made: ice cream cake, 4minute's crazy, and saying he listened to shinee's album in 2013. they brought out 3 albums in 2013, so that alone kind of shows he wasnt really keeping up to date. in the react videos he saw exo, orange caramel, tvxq, bts, exid and bap and seemed like he was up to date when he talked about hiphop in korea

basically, my point is, is this a 'you dont know what im talking about so ill stop' thing, or is he actually not interested? because i dont care either way, but he downplays certain interests and bigs up other ones, and i like to know what he actually enjoys and what is a joke. he's been into kanye for ages, but almost immediately after he actually started talking about him and rap in general, he made sure it was a meme and a joke, when he's shown before that it isnt just 'hahaha kanye senpai!!' he has some fairly complex views on an artist he admires and the work he creates. psychoanalysis: comfortable enough to talk about interest that gets dismissed, has to make it something where he can laugh at the jokes about it rather than just being laughed at for being passionate

Hate is too strong of a word, I'd say I don't love about half of this playlist. However, I'm one of those obnoxious people that absolutely adores singing their heart out in public, especially when there's a crowd involved (as, being a freak of nature, I also love crowds). So I'm sure if I ever were to go to one of their shows (European tour pls, boys!) I'd absolutely destroy my vocal cords with my rendition of... absolutely everything. Lol, sorry jaej and adequack that you have to suffer during public events because of people like me
Anyway, I think it's a nice idea on their part, even if just to make the crowd excited before the show.

thats probably the thing that i find the weirdest about the phandom, they say they like something once and suddenly its "A thing", like its everywhere in phanfics, edits, it always comes up, tbh i think thats why Dan is so apprehensive about opinions, he knows he only has to mention something once and it will be there forever.

I think it might be the typical Dan just being kind of afraid of stating his true opinions because he might be afraid of the backlash, like he has mentioned in particularly his opinions video. Not to psychoanalyse Dan too much, but I think there might be some truth in the part I bolded in your post, just because I myself am kind of like that (is this what projecting is...). If it's something that is said in a jokey way, people can't lash out at him as severely as if he stated something completely seriously, and I think especially with Kanye who is deemed to be a bit problematic he might think it is a good strategy. And additionally, with things that you are embarrassed to like, it is much easier to admit that you like them in a jokey way because you can always use that as a defense when people question you, which we have kind of seen that Dan does in the ironic appreciation video by stating that he only likes things ironically.

The k-pop thing has always made me wonder though... Why doesn't he talk about it more? He seems to be very aware of his audience and I think a lot of his audience fall into the type of people who might like k-pop. He doesn't seem to have a problem with talking about a lot about other types of less mainstream (or slightly looked down upon) fandoms like bands or 1D or anime... Hmm...

EDIT: it was ages ago but regarding how much I will last: probably 1 year and half but everything is possible. Never have been part of a proper fandom, I've always been lowkey supportive of the artist/actors I like but usually I'm not too much invested or spend money on them, I go in periodes in which I follow them and then leave but check every now and then.

As far as dan's interest in kpop goes... it's very casual but I do genuinely think he enjoys it. He likes kpop, but he doesn't go out of his way to get to know groups that aren't from the big 3 nor has he ever actively taken part in a kpop fandom or has any interest in that. And as the older groups he's familiar with grow inactive or disband in the coming years, while the new groups take over and the oversaturation of the kpop market continues with like million rookies debuting every year, his interest will probably decline further (unless he's gonna stan some rookies). I don't think he ever really played his kpop interests up or down though. It's just a minor interest he sometimes talks about. And I don't think kpop fans give a damn about what Dan thinks or likes. There's far less of an overlap in the Phandom with kpop fandoms than with Bandoms or fans of other western pop artists. That probably helped with it not becoming as much of a thing as FOB and Muse.

Dan playing up his interest in certain artists like that is mostly 'giving the fans what they want' I think. Muse is a good example. Phan shippers credit Muse as the sole reason for Dan and Phil even meeting, and Deppy is okay with them thinking that. That way they don't have to talk about other things they bonded over. In general, if the Phandom thinks Dan only cares about those artists they also care about, they won't ask about his other interests. I imagine being able to enjoy some artists by yourself without thousands of people asking what you thought about their new song is nice thing to have. It's also the reason we'll never see Guild Wars 2 on DAPG or even talks about it that much, it's Dan's private thing far away from his fans. It sucks for the people who have genuine interest in his likes and dislikes and aren't just looking for validation of their own interest though.
