I was smiling when a possible phandivorce was brought up but then the conversation took a more serious turn
My heart goes out to the victims and all the ones profoundly hurt by this meaningless act of violence. When i heard about it on the news, they said this was going the be the 20th time that president Obama was going to speech after a mass shooting like this. Depressing. And it's only the very deadliest ones that get headlines in the national news. Terrorism or the act of a mentally unstable person (or a mix of both), these mass shootings exact a terrible toll of human lives and they just seem to get more and more frequent.
I do hope that, somehow, some good may come of this tragedy.
These events aren't really about Dan and Phil and honestly I can understand how, considering their large lgbt audience and history many may look to them and expect them to say something... but idk how i feel about them tweeting about it. In a way, it seems a bit... empty to just offer your respects in the 160 characters tops that silly site allows you.
I wouldn't mind (because i'm sure it comes from a good place) but i don't expect them to do it either. Honestly, i'd rather hear their thoughts in a video or a livestream. There's also the shooting Christina Grimmie that is more relevant to them as public figures with huge fandoms so i suspect that between the bday party and the hectic show schedule this has been on their minds.

saw that on twitter a few hours ago, how fucking insensitive can you be
and also i'm gonna repeat what i said on twitter: this person clearly can't tell the difference between deppy and one direction 'i want their management to stop milking them' lmao really?
I second this. I saw the person who posted this arguing with people that told them that it was insensitive.

I get the worry but for them to turn this very serious and horrible event into something about is just
And they word the last part as if are being held against their will to go on tour

I am on the no tweeting side of the fence - we all know that this was a heinous act of violence seemingly directed at members of the LGBT community, and possibly inspired by a group(s) with fucked up interpretation of Islam. Demanding acknowledgement / sorrow be expressed by public figures when we know how they feel is unreasonable, and I actually think that those who do use social media to express their sorrow are really more interested in promoting themselves / abusing their notoriety. Yea, I have pretty strong feelings about this topic.

I also think that a moment of silence at tonight's show would be appropriate.

It would but knowing Deppy's crowd I'm not sure it would be possible.

Have a little faith, they can be crazy and weird, but i think they know how to react in particular situations, especially that tough.

So, today was certainly a day.
Spoiler'd for a lot of tweets.
I'm so sad that IDB was down during this meet up because holy shit. I was reduced to keyboard smashing, it was not pretty.
My jaw is still on the floor from Phil asking to sign the Formspring question, by the way. I hope I'm not overreacting over here, since it's probably the least questionable of the Formspring answers, but it feels so weird to have them kinda sorta acknowledge it. (According to the OP, they had a "moment" where they looked at each other or something.)

Those Meet&Greet pictures, oh man...At least something good in this terrible situation.
Tho wording and POV of Dan's tweet was interesting.
Whatever, I'm just happy everything went well.

Yeah....that was surprising to say the least (but more so because of the fact that the person actually forced him to acknowledge it lol). I mean, a lot of their followers have seen the formspring answers...I think it's one of those 'they know that we know' type situations where we're just pretending there's no elephant in the room (the elephant of course being things like FS answers regarding sexuality, dailybooth/nakedbooth stuff, etc.). Regardless of their sexualities and relationship statuses, those things happened and have turned into a huge elephant
(Sorry...I had to do that)
This reminds me of when Phil actually responded to someone on twitter regarding a screenshot of one of those 'is AmazingPhil...' google searches and one of the results was 'bi'. 'Illuminati' was also a result and he responded with pink triangles but there's no way he didn't see that 'bi' was a top result. I'm too lazy to go back and find the tweet but if someone wants to be my guest lol.

My head-canon for the day would have been for deppy to send a statement to the effect of "as members of the LGBTQ+ community, our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless tragedy..."
But, the more I thought of it, I realized that although it would have been a brave gesture, it would have had a hint of self-serving too—a detraction that would have generated needless buzz. I'm sure d&p realized that the best and most meaningful way they could contribute is by doing what they've been doing and spread the joy and sense of community that tatinof delivers.

I found the tweet weird because either Dan or Phil have a tendency to address something and the other retweets. I wanted to have both make a statement but like the Christine tragedy we got one.
Also the heart eyes picture made me paranoid. Like if Dan could pull that expression out of his head how do we know that all the find looks he's given Phil during their videos haven't been intentional?! I want to believe its genuine but now Im questioning things. The formspring thing was cute tho and I believe the fan in their story, especially because that answer was pretty platonic.

I think in sad/hard times, one tends to not guard their feelings. I'm inclined to believe feels fortunate that whatever happens they have one another. Hence we managed to catch a few sentimental moments in today's M&G.

I love Dan's tweet. And am glad that Phil retweeted it.
Also really liking those M&G pics.

It was well thought out (probably why it took some time) and maybe even thought out together? I don't MIND it, but they seem to be very careful with the wording and the message.
But Phil just retweeting, are you even surprised? He has always been more "private" with his opinions.

I tend to view serious tweets from them as joint tweets, and yeah I agree they most probably sat down and draft it together.

Regarding the one where the girl cropped herself out of the pic (the one which featured Heart Eyes Howell), does anyone know what type of pose she was making them do? Because I think the pose would indicate how the Heart Eyes Howell came about.

I nearly missed the fact that Dan tweeted about it as I saw an earlier tweet from futuredan which started the same, and I thought it was the same tweet

Basically, they asked for Dan and Phil to "look at each other and smile", so not
explicitly Heart Eyes Howell.
Personal opinion time, but I never actually thought that "Heart Eyes Howell" was really a thing? I'm as much a trashy Phan shipper as the next person, but honestly, Dan just has a soft face. I just think he's looking at Phil because he's talking.

But hey, I'm not here to destroy no one's dreams.

That's exactly the feel I got from it. On one hand it was very lovely and made you feel happy but in another it was too well thought out and carefully worded. It's Dan (and probably Phil) though, so I'm not surprised. Also with them taking long to write one tweet I think they just settled with that for the both of them. Anyway
sweetmm is right in the fact that they may have gotten sentimental and grateful this past day. Hopefully they did celebrate Dans birthday well. I'm now curious on how filled the Vegas show was!!
RiriPandaHeart2 the fan asked them to do heart eyes to each other (from her old tweets apparently it's now it's look at each other and smile) but Phil didn't listen (partly because them both doing it would be awkward AF)
