Agreed. To me it exemplifies how he cut the connection between him as a real person and his young viewers because he fears they can't understand him. Dropping out of college after a clash between values, goals and expectations lead to an identity crisis (assuming it was anything like that) ... how can i possibly talk about that to a 12 yeal old. Guess i'll just spazz a bit on the bed and call it an existential crisis.

I honestly don’t really see how joking about smoking things and the whole stoner thing is so mature, that’s what teenagers do, at least where I live. So I just find it a bit cringe worthy.

That's not at all how i read it though. He's just playing around with the vape nation meme. Which is by itself a parody of the 'stoner lifestyle'. Internet pop culture is what he breathes and illicit substance use is in that way more of a 'mature' topic in the sense that it would typically appeal to a broader audience than just kids.
I just hate it if all their humor is void of anything that's possibly controversial. I like their jokes to be dark and edgy at times. It's a nice counterweight for all the fluffy friendship/domestic stuff.

Hiya, i made the post in question, ususally i just lurk here but i decided to post just to clarify my position. firstly thanks for saying you like my blog that's really nice thank u! the tags were a joke, i actually have no issue with people disagreeing with me or anything like that, but i know where you're coming from my tags were probably a bad choice on a photoset like that so i apologise for that, but i did entend for the whole 'dont deny it' thing to come across as a joke but i probably didn't execute that very well so sorry about that. the point of the photoset wasn't to actually prove anything except 'sometimes phil mentions boys in the way dan does as well', i tried to clarify this in a message i got after i posted it but i don't think it came across the way i wanted it to either, sometimes i'm just not good with words. but yeah, the point wasn't to ultimately prove, or disprove, anything it was just a silly photoset i made mostly for a friend and we've both sort of come to regret it because most of the comments and tags on it are people trying to use it to prove phil is gay or bi, or whatever sexuality they want, which isn't really what i intended. i only really made it because people expressing same gendered attraction, outside any context of sexuality or relationships or labels, is something i find really positive because it helps to normalise it and as someone who has for a long time struggled with their own sexuality it is just something i thought would be fun to do. i see people discuss dan mentioning boys a lot so it was fun to try find things for phil as well, but tbh i kind of regret posting it because i never really thought about the implications of it and how people would view and receive it, and i guess that is my own fault and i should have probably thought more about the context i presented it in and how i tagged it and stuff, but i didn't and that's something i can't really change now so many people have seen it but i will think more carefully about that in the future. so yeah, i wasn't trying to prove anything really, but i can 100% see why you thought that so i'm not like .. trying to start shit cause i should have thought more about what i said and how i said it because it's easy to misunderstand someone's tone or intention when it's just text, but i was trying to be funny and probably failed haha

That's exactly the point I took from the post, and I was actually grateful for that. Phil's mentions about guys/appreciation or attraction toward guys get easily handwaved while everyone makes a huge deal of Dan's.

Dan might be more vocal now but it's not like Phil has never talked about a guy being attractive. That gifset didn't even include some of Zayn mentions throughout the past year. And I don't at all feel like Phil's sexuality is more of a mystery or that it's projected headcanon to say he likes guys. Phil confirmed almost as many times as Dan did that he was bisexual, and over a more widespread period of time. And Phil isn't even the one that ever tried to handwave formspring's legitimacy! He's literally never backtracked or denied it. The only argument people can make against Phil is that he talked about women too, and well... that doesn't negate bisexuality. Unless OP had actually tried to say Phil was gay or exclusively liked men (which they didn't) then I got nothin' but love for the post.

because i am on the tumbz, i see so, so much pushing of head cannons from young girls who feteshize gay relationships and use shipping as an excuse for really uncomfortable things. one example is the whole Phil Tops no debate thing that i see a lot, and its because i guess people see dan as the 'twink' more- which is just fangirls pushing an idea that they fantasize about, a less intense example is dan smashing gender roles & how he should wear nail polish, etc. i think these things dehumanize them.

I'm not claiming that Phil is straight, let me make that clear. And I actually would find that pushy if someone were to compile a gifpost of female attraction from Phil.

idk i just think that to normalise something is to not make a deal out of it. making it seem like something notable kind of defeats the purpose. i see it all the time with sexuality posts or posts about ~phan moments~ or really dumb stuff like the dress thing, you just cant make something into a big deal and say its normalising it.
especially when its attempting to normalise a wider societal issue like non sexual displays of attraction. it feels wrong to me to take someone saying those things - in a calm, very quiet way that they enjoy and do naturally - and make it into a big standpoint of 'this thing is fine see this person did it!!'

hey! just wanted to say thank you for making that post, i completely got that the tag was a joke and i think that the world needs more posts about phil mentioning same sex attraction

also they way other people interpret your post (as in, making it out to be proof for their own headcanons) is absolutely not your fault, that being said i don't think there's anything wrong with saying phil/dan could be lgbt, and i think most people that tag that post (and the one about Dan, idk if that one's yours as well) with stuff about bisexuality and other lgbt identities are aware that unless they claim any labels themselves (arguebly they had done that in the past and never took it back but that's another conversation all together) what they are saying is just a way of interpreting their behavior, a headcanon mostly, even if based on 'facts'.

Phil has made his attraction much more ambiguous since 2010 and there's little to go on. However there ARE some, specifically to males ("He has a nice face" -in reference to Joey Graceffa) and Dan's (for Phil) "Tayler Lautner with his shirt off" (and Phil's reaction that deserve analysis.

I think that's mostly due to the relatively clean cut image they try to portray to their audience. I think that's why some people make a big deal when they see old clips of drunk D+P or when they make a cheeky comment/joke about sex or drugs. I'd be side-eyeing it if Phil had never said a thing about his sexuality or confirmed being straight, but um, Phil liking boys isn't a ''headcanon''? (I find that such a weird term, nobody should have ''headcanons'' for real people.) He has publicly stated his bisexuality in the past and never contradicted that statement or even heavily implied being straight, like Dan. So yesterday I was staying at a hotel for my friend’s (Ashley) sixteenth birthday and Dan and Phil happened to stay at the same hotel! Unfortunately, we missed them by a hair as we went to the mall but her mom went back and bumped into them. Dan and Phil offered to film this video for my friend and I, bless their hearts. Also, her mom was so incredibly stunned by how polite and handsome they were, she was transformed into a phan ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

just wanted to clarify that i said headcanon for lack of a better word, i definitely think that the labels they claimed all those years ago and the recent attraction mentions are valid, but i also see why other people might disagree and i believe that i'm in no position to say that my pov is the truth, and i definitely can't claim to know what deppy think of this whole deal, so that's why i called it headcanon

lol same, i have mentioned this before, and i think that the overall conclusion we ended up with was that it was a cultural thing + the fact that some kids (especially the ones that seem to be into nerdy things like deppy) are simply more sheltered than others

I mean, a lot of people on Tumblr or any other social media force their headcanons on them so I'm not that surprised. I'll admit that I do it sometimes too but let's say that I keep those "headcanons" to myself and don't put them on tumblr saying to people they shouldn't try to argue with me about the headcanons that I made up.

I am very confused by the negative attention this post is getting. I'd be side-eyeing it if Phil had never said a thing about his sexuality or confirmed being straight, but um, Phil liking boys isn't a ''headcanon''? (I find that such a weird term, nobody should have ''headcanons'' for real people.) He has publicly stated his bisexuality in the past and never contradicted that statement or even heavily implied being straight, like Dan. Until he tells us otherwise I don't understand why Phil's sexuality is a ''mystery'' to so many people. I'm going to assume he's bisexual because he told the world so himself.

yeah, i was trying to be a bit funny. it's sort of a joke among me and my friends to say 'dont argue with me' 'this is real' and stuff just because we find it funny to say that even though we don't mean it and most of the time we are joking about the things we're claiming are 'real'. so yeah i was just trying to make a joke but i can see how what i said could have been taken the wrong way. because i made the gifs partly for one of my friends i just didn't really think about the context of my tags or how they would come across to other people, which i probably should think more about in the future cause i just kind of forget people follow me and actually read my dumb tags on my posts haha. so i am sorry for causing this whole misunderstanding!

I didn't see the post about phil's male attraction to be pushy at all. and the tags were just commonly used phrases today, like the "don't try to come at me" isn't really to be taken super seriously if you ask me. I get that it can come off aggressive to some people but it's a popular phrase people use when they aren't being aggressive at all like idk how to explain it but i don't think it was aggressive just slang. I agree that the gifset is stuff i havent really seen put together before of phil and i really like it. It's not projecting because it's all stuff phil really said?

Also what's the problem with people having headcanons, this is a fandom, headcanons don't hurt anyone because they're just in someone's head. I don't see the issue.

Sorry if it comes across like I'm upset about this or whatever, I'm really not. (I think my post came across as more aggressive than I intended it to be.) Obviously we have different ideas about this, and I respect your opinion. I just take the formspring answers for what they are. I don't think Phil's age or time that has passed invalidates what he said about his own identity, unless of course he says so otherwise.

About headcanons: I just find the word ''headcanon'' weird because it implies that real people's lives are ''the canon'', which I find a bit uncomfortable because we aren't talking about characters in a fictional universe. I understand what people mean when they say that, but it's just not a word I would use personally.
