I don't think the BBC would change the rules in order to nominate Dan and Phil as part of some publicity stunt, that seems a bit biased I just can't see it. They would change the rules for fair and objective reasons, and there was probably some official procedure they went through to even change those rules Basically I believe in British bureaucracy enough to believe this
It made me laugh when I saw Emma post that like 'I'm not going to win lmfao but look everybody I'm nominated go vote for me'. I love her though.

Re: consent jokes
I've also noticed this. I remember him joking 'Dan's consent is not necessary' in a video somewhere ages ago so I think this has been going on a while, and I remember it because it struck me as an odd thing to say. visiblelurker your post was well written and compelling. However, I agree with eevee on this one. They strike me as jokes, part of Dan's inappropriate sense of humour, but I don't know why he has to drag the word 'consent' into the joke, I can see why it would be problematic.

I think there may have been a *ban* of sorts on crew-hanging out photos for the sake of the doc / tour book. Since it appears that the Aus tour will not be in the TB (unless some white space was reserved), such *restrictions* could be loosened somewhat.

I don't think so ,for me it's more their desire to protect their non yt friends, they usually show only deppy and youtubers or already famous person, they even did it in the behind the scenes of tabinof We know that the phandom can get quite intense so I assume they are now used to do it always.

In this specific instance I'm inclined to think that they don't want to sic the phandom on the entire crew. There's a difference in fans lowkey knowing who the crew is and checking their social media, and in people feeling entitled to approach them or spam them with questions because Dan and Phil have publicly acknowledged them so it must be okay.

In the US tour there were four or five people regularly updating social media talking about tatinof while the rest (15-20 people) all kept quiet about it, presumably because they just didn't want that attention.

I don't personally think it's fanservice. Just because dan posted a photo of them together, doesn't mean he's implying they are indeed alone. He didn't state they are alone nor did he imply it anywhere in the post. The implying they are alone is all fan assumption, to be honest. Just like the whole "they went on a date" thing last year when really they went to dinner with the publishers. I agree with the second part of what mez29 said for sure. I can't imagine people who work for them being too thrilled with people trying to find out who they are and being invasive. Not to mention all the pointless rumors that would start because of it. Dan and Phil don't really like to put their other friends or coworkers out there on the Internet because of that.

I don't think it was that formative in his interest in drama, seeing as he was nearly 15 when it came out, and he's talked about being in drama when he was a lot younger than that. I'm pretty sure the reason he likes it is just because it was a thing to like it back then, and it just stuck with him (And about the "crush" thing, wouldn't "admire" be a better choice of words?)

I agree with the reasons others have given as to why he might avoid showing people other than him and Phil on instagram like respecting their privacy etc but also it's important to remember the phandom don't have any chill. If Dan had took a picture of Phil and the girl sitting beside him and put that on instagram (even if she is crew) there would be some fans straight on it with the OMG IS THAT HIS GF??? style comments and it could lead to unnecessary drama which we know they hate. Why risk it?

That being said I do partially agree it was fan service because he has 3.3 million followers on instagram so yeah he will be uploading stuff on there based on what he thinks the fans want to see. Really all their public social media accounts are there largely for fan service and not personal use.
