Okay, my ratings outfit by outfit:

ripped black jeans: 12/10 please wear (I think Dan agrees)
twenty one pilots outfit w/beanie: 4/10, all i see is Jughead with the beanie and he looks uncomfortable in the shirt
punk soft: 6/10 the grey shirt needed to go
safiya's coat: 7/10 just because it came from safiya, i love and want to marry her
birb shirt: 4/10 because phil looks good in all black but no on the flutteries
our lumberjack dad: 5/10 i'm struggling because i want to burn the outfit but also i enjoy the flesh
pearlescent hoodie: 8/10 - i enjoy how he wraps himself up in it, i think he liked it even if he had reservations
bright pink suit: 6/10 because the color looks weirdly good on him even if it's ridiculous. love that it wouldn't button/zip/close up and he had to cover his junk
camo dungarees: 8/10 i hate it but he made it work. really only wanted to give it 5/10 but dan loving it was worth three points.
cheese dress: 15/10 for underwear/butt shot/thigh
yellow shirt/white jeans: 10/10 because he liked it, he felt comfortable, and it looked good. am prepared to swat dan's hands if he tries to steal those jeans.
punk outfit: 8/10 why do i like that so much? i want to see dan play with the zips
christmas tree aesthetic: 4/10 i'm trying to rate it on how i liked it not on humor but honestly this one is four points of my enjoyment of their reactions

Yes, to this too!!! I think sometimes it gets very easy to slip into thinking of them as the same person, but something out of Phil’s comfort zone isn’t necessarily out of Dan’s comfort zone. It would be more interesting to see Dan come up with his own idea for something that would push him out of his comfort zone on his channel and for Phil to make this a series on his channel (in my opinion of course).

Loving the timestamps, commentary and outfit ratings rizzo, Catallena and dizzy.

I'm having a bit of a hard time processing the video, as I was in a very negative headspace right before watching it the first time. I didn't love any of the outfits, but I did appreciate the video itself. Not my fave of the year, but definitely in my top 5.

I thought I'd do something a little different for my post and include my husband and son's reactions. As they watched it with me later.

-Kiddo thinks Phil looks "amazing" in the first outfit. He loves the beanie. I don't, but the shoes are cool. I noticed a bit of northern!Phil came out when he said he doesn't do hats. Black ripped jeans are a win.
-Kiddo squealed with delight at Phil's tongue wiggle (oh to be innocent and not understand the connotations). I like the jacket, but not the white cap. Phil you look good in black, accept this please. Kind of sad that this was the only floral reprentation we got, I love some of those suggested shirts.
-Phil looks so soft and fuzzy, it reminded me of that tan stuffed puppy Dan nuzzled that pic Phil took of him in 2009. Had to make a side by side comparison post on Tumblr.
-I love the fringe shirt. I know he wouldn't wear it out, but somehow I think it suits him. Keep it for flapping and cawing and twirling at home.
-Kiddo cackles at Phil's butt in the glass.
(At this point I find it worth mentioning that the husband thought Phil was changing out on their balcony during the whole video. This prompted much discussions on the layout of their apartment afterwards.)
-"Our lumberjack dad" again with the "our". Dan is so gracious to share. And on the anniversary of the "oi he's mine" tweet.
-Husband cracking up at fireman bants.
-I don't like this outfit one bit, but it was nice to see Phil's arms from the sides. I'm used to them straight on in gaming videos and they look so thin that it makes me roll my eyes at the Tumblr url "philsmeatyarms" (goes to see what they have posted, yep it's arm porn), but they are actually nice.
-Neither of them had a reaction to the ring. I almost died. (It doesn't help that I thought I saw a flash of gold on Dan's finger in the Sim's vid... it was nothing, I was hallucinating.) Of course I don't think Dan would propose to Phil in a sleeveless plaid shirt (or on camera).
-Husband likes the pearlescent hoodie, wants it for himself, kiddo agrees. I love it on Phil, not for me.
-Love the color of the suit, just not the shorts. Poor Phil.
-Husband thinks Phil looks good in the olive green tee, if not the camo. We were all appalled at the idea of the dungarees, but I've gotta agree with Dan here.
-Boys are a bit quiet during cheese part. (Afterward husband said he didn't understand why it was blurred out, as men's boxers are just like shorts. Clearly he doesn't understand Phil's modesty or the humor. Queue discussion about Dan blurring his nipples.)
-Husband agrees with the world that the yellow and white outfit is the best. I'm not quite sold on the top, but love the jeans.
-Kiddo wants the Studio Ghibli shirt (we've been attending G-Kids movie screenings this year. He has his own Totoro plushie.) I agree and think it's a good look for Phil. White on black is a fave of mine.
-The green shirt is a beautiful color on Phil, but the material, ick. See arm squeeze quote below.
-Husband wonders if all the trousers were picked out by Dan with the idea that he could wear them. I don't think he would go for the light blue denim, but take the straps off the bondage pants and you're left with some nice black trousers with unconventional zips and a cute little metal pull in the back.

-Husband was also distracted by Dan in the reflection, didn't think he was in pjs. I agree it was the Australia animal shirt.

Completely agree with this. Dan doesn't need us to look ridiculous, we know he can do a great job of that himself

In all seriousness, the fun in this is that Phil is an unfashionable person who also tends to hate change and going out of his comfort zone. His style has barely evolved in 10 years. Allowing strangers on the internet (and Dan) to pick things for him is actually kind of a big thing for him. That's half of what makes this video so good.

And Dan needs more original content. He's already done two videos originally done by Phil this year, he doesn't need another.

Exactly, Dan tries a lot more different styles than Phil does.
A lot of what people want Phil to try wearing, (ripped jeans, beanies) Dan's already done.
It's much more interesting to see Phil go so far out of his comfort zone, since his is so much smaller.

OMG I loved this. Which is pretty much the consensus it seems. I am really hoping we will see some of these items in the future. Maybe Dan wearing the hats in a LS or Phil wearing that hoodie in a LS? I really liked the whole vibe. Phils awkwardness seemed more authentic and fun. That sounds like an insult I think but I don't mean it in a bad way? I think this content just seemed nostalgic and different together in the best way, which probably makes no sense but is the best way I can describe it.I also loved how chill Phils initial reaction to a unisex dress was before he saw the cheese. And how to they not die tripping over that rug? I really want to know what shirt Dan is wearing too. IDK why but I have the feeling that its one of Phils but literally have no reason for this sense so don't read into it at all. I was also hoping to see him in a Nathan Zed Good Enough shirt but when I saw the interaction on twitter I had noticed that everything was sold out so maybe its ordered and we will see it in the next of this series(because it had better be a series) or in a video?
I think my aphasia is hindering my ability to articulate how I feel OR Phils butt killed whatever poor communicative skills I had. In general, LOVED the video and I want more now.

On about my fifth rewatch of the night because I can't sleep, I noticed a cute exchange that I had previously missed. @8:15 Dan from behind the camera calmingly saying "It's all going to be okay" as Phil emerges after clearly having a stress and getting himself tangled up in the camo overalls.

Been lurking for the past 6 months but just wanted to pop in and say all of my expectations for this video were met AND exceeded.. this is added to my fave Phil video of the year and one of my faves from him of all time.. seriously I've already watched this four times

Loved the outfit choices there Dan! Faves included the yellow shirt and white jeans combo (also feel like if he paired the yellow shirt with the black skinnies that'd be more up Phil's current style imo), the Ghibli shirt and the first normcore/grey and maroon look (ngl I found that the beanie suited him!)

I was hoping to see some Harry Styles - esque wide legged trousers/printed pants, some button ups and/or a pair of clear framed glasses to add to the accessories, but hey that'd be some good options to add in for a second part to this video, huh :please:

Everybody said everything so I'll just chime in to say it's definitely my favourite AP vid all year and Phil should keep the white pants or else.

I guess that's why I'm still single)

But it's just a nipple. My example of Grace/Mamrie doing the same thing was just supposed to underline it being a goofy thing to do between friends, but maybe another example (without so much 'only women's nipples are considered inherently sexual for some reason' baggage attached): what if it was Jon Cozart asking Hannah Hart to poke his nip after commenting that it was visible through his shirt. Just because it's funny. Like there's nothing sexual or suggestive about it, imo, in either of the examples or with D&P. I know exactly what you mean about Tom/etc and those kinds of jokes coming from straight dude types, but D&P just aren't those people. I mean if someone wanted to make a good case that they are, that goes beyond 'we don't see enough to know with 100% certainty what kind of people they ~really are, so what if', I'd be into it. Maybe there's some blind spot that needs clearing. But otherwise it's a baseless thought experiment, like: what would this action mean if it was Tom and Elliot doing it? (although if it was Tom and Elliot doing the exact same thing that D&P did, I don't see anything about it that could come across as a gay joke; it's literally just poking a body part they all share without any comment on it being weird/gross/sexual/anything. It was the equivalent of a nose boop on a nip, just a meaningless silly action

) And anyway it wasn't Tom/Elliot, it was Dan and Phil, and there was no allusion to it being anything other than a body poke to continue joking about how tight the shirt was.

Someone tweeted out a vid comparing this nipple moment to one in an earlier gaming video where Phil was touching Dan's pocket and Dan said 'you almost touched my nipple' or something and Phil takes his hand away and apologizes. And that's just another tiny moment that's intended to be jokey and not serious, but while still making the point that it would be weird if Phil had touched his nipple, because [insert reason here but it could be looked at as a slightly homophobic 'ew a dude touching another dude's nipple' or just 'um friends don't touch other friends' nipples, that would be weird' (and while that is probably true for most friends, it's not true for all friends- especially when it's not at all done in a sexual context)]. And I'm sure none of it's that deep for them when filming, they're just trying to be entertaining, but as a viewer, seeing the difference between the two instances ('whoa dude you almost touched my nipple lol awkward' to 'lol yeah whatever poke it') seems like a positive progression. Actual conversations about nipple progression, only on the internet.

To people who follow them closely this may come across as a natural interaction(or at least something coming from a natural interaction) but i don't think it's the same for casual fans.
The Try Guys skit really illustrated how outsiders perceive them and what they do.

Dan's fanservice comments just bring me back to the self-conscious aspect of their interactions on camera. They know what gets gif'd and what tends to elicit stronger reactions and that's what they avoided for so long (mainly: touching) because they wanted more control over their official narrative of being friends/roommates. So while audience interaction (and those Strong Reactions) are a good thing - because happy audience = happy bank account - I can see where discomfort and reluctance to be as natural comes into how they interact(ed), because it would just be spun into more fodder for the shipping and proof and whatever other audience additions to its own narrative of More Than Friends which was something D&P didn't want to appear to be actively encouraging (or playing into) since it would be at odds with their narrative.

And over the past couple of years they've let go of some of that anxiety (while still sticking with the public definition of friends) and loosened up (touching! Phil doesn't only stare at the camera the entire time!), but the awareness is still there and always will be. Those Dan moments (the fanservice comments, the weird forcefeeding thing) come from a complicated place of being overly aware, and somewhat resentful sometimes for it imo, of what the audience wants from him and Phil and a need to be clear that if we're getting what we want, it's because he's initiating it, he's not just a commodity. It's like women posing nude (or scantily-clad, or whatever) and the never-ending debate about what it ~means under patriarchy. This is most likely a terrible analogy but I'm going to go with it, it's been a long day.

It's that old chestnut: can you be in control of your own objectification? Like, does it mean anything to say it's your choice and you want to do it (even when those things may be genuinely true to you) when it's what society wants and expects of you to begin with? Because feeling confident and wanting to show yourself off and succumbing to external pressures that have made showing yourself off a de facto part of being successful (or valued or validated) both result in the same thing. Giving in to what society (or the patriarchy, or your audience, or xyz) want. So there's this fun mess of finding control over giving your audience what they want, or doing what you want, or doing what it takes to be successful, and the confusing intersection of all of those things along with competing narratives and internal/external pressures. It's about trying to find a way in all of that to either keep or take back your power, if it's even possible to do so, and if it's not, then it's about the only available alternative left: to be clear that you are fully aware of your participation in doing what is desired of you by others, you're not just some unwitting participant going along with the current, you're choosing to (orrr want to appear to be choosing to). Because you actually want to or because you see no other option available to you and/or because choice is an illusion when you exist as any kind of 'other' in society- who knows! What matters is the narrative you choose for yourself to get through the day. Dan telling the audience what they want and then (maybe snarkily or awkwardly depending on the day) going 'here watch me give it to you' can be uncomfortable, but I don't take it as an admission that those things are fake/acted out, just some shaky moments where he's trying to demonstrate some semblance of having control over himself/themselves and their form of objectification. Yeah I don't think that analogy really landed, it might need to marinate longer. Anyway, this ramble took a wrong turn somewhere, where'd the nipples go.

i just watched the video and haven't had time to catch up fully yet, so i'll just assume that most of my feelings on the video have already been stated by someone else and look forward to an evening of tea and idb

but just to chime in for a second, the video was amazing and has to be one of my favourite aps ever. i thought it was a good choice to include dan, not just because i love their collabs obvs, but dan's commentary really added to it. otherwise it might have been too pj/"i don't understand fashion"-y? i agree with Catallena in that i don't really need to see dan reuse the idea though -- i think in his case, people would mostly tweet pastelly/"soft" things and ridiculous, non-serious suggestions. it'd lose the appeal compared to phil's video that featured a lot of suggestions of what people thought would actually look good on him (and what did, like the yellow/white thing, the camo dungarees (though i don't get why dan was that Obsessed with them lmao), the roses jeans jacket, the ripped jeans). tl;dr it was A Good video, phil was great, and i'm looking forward to that Post Fashion Video Universe.

Definitely. I really, really wish he'd actually been put in some 30 year old appropriate outfits. But I also didn't suggest any so I guess next time I need to put into the world what I really want to see. (Or, alternately: people did but Dan ignored them bc Phil in sensible adult wear doesn't appeal to the teens/rake in the views.)

I'm glad people felt the same, I was worried the comment came across as 'once you're 30 you're over the hill and should just wear dad jeans and sensible tshirts forever' which is not what I think. I think there's a fine line though and some of the outfits (especially the beanie one!) were on the wrong side for me. This is why I think a 'Dan chooses my outfits'' (or even like Bryony or Wirrow or just anyone who knows him quite well) would be good - they'd naturally pick stuff that might be out of his comfort zone but that he probably would feel and look more comfortable and age appropriate in.

You're not the only one! While it was obviously not the sort of thing he would ever wear for a multiplicity of reasons (not his style, not really aimed at his age-range etc), I think it did genuinely suit him. I'm not a fan of beanies at all but I actually think it really worked with his hair-style and head shape. I'm also a heathen because I really liked the sleeveless plaid shirt on him lmao. Again, not at all the sort of outfit I would ever usually like on a guy, but I guess it must have really spoke to my lesbian/bi-ness (I truly do not know which I am, help a gal out smh).

Anyway, v good vid, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree that it was the right decision to have Dan off-camera, his commentary was really funny without detracting at all from Phil, especially the bits in the beginning.

Also, fancybum a+++ to everything you've been saying!!!

Up to my third rewatch I just want to say what a blessing this video is to a Phil girl like me. I'll never stop saying it but that man is so fucking beautiful and I'm glad he tried to do something a bit out of his comfort zone and I'm so glad Dan was there offering his commentary in the softest way possible, sarcastic whom. Also I wanted to hug Phil so much because he looked so self conscious NO BABY you're doing amazing sweetie you're handsome I want to steal the stars from the night sky and hang them in your living room so you can use them as lights you fashion show.

-Phil should never wear anything else but ripped skinny jeans. Black looks amazing on him and makes his legs even longer but boy oh boy he looks good in the baby blue ripped jeans. Hate white pants but BOI.
-I don't know why the knowledge that Phil wears white boxers has fucked me up so much but I haven't been able to stop thinking abut it. Just... white boxers. Help me. His butt tho

-The 2005 emo outfit might be my absolute favorite. I had those pants. I never knew I wanted them back in my life until I saw them on Phil and realized I miss them.
-I realize green is an incredible color on Phil, doesn't matter if it's olive green or a deep emerald or even camo. Just..wow he looks GOOD in green almost as good as in black.
-I wasn't a fan of the beanie look but now I'm wondering how it'd look if he was wearing glasses and pushed his hair up.
-I'm still not over the sushi underwear. Probably never will.
-The ring fucked me up. Even more so the people on tumblr making me realize that...ah yes Dan knows Phil's ring size. Just..casual. I didn't need that mental picture in my life. I don't know my own ring size let alone my friends'

How much money do I have to give them to make this a regular series PLEASE PHIL

loved the video!
as much as i want dan to do this, i want him to actually try clothes that would be realistically worn as an everyday outfit rather than majority be joke/gags/costumes that people may request in to troll him (which is fine to show one like phil in the cheese suit lol).

but i'd kill to see him in a beige trouser and a soft colored, fitted button-up because it's so opposite from his usual black, dark monochrome colors and jumpers that are too oversized.
just looking at his last 20-30 pictures off his instagram, he either is in black or very loose fitted shirts/long sleeves/jumpers and i miss that white, moth button-up; it fit really well on him!

i loved the dan&phil emoji from the brits in their house plant. adorable.

still processing the fact that phil willingly filmed himself being in boxers in front of dan for almost the entire vid... and the ring moment tho, I hadn't feel like total phan trash for a while now and they just brought me back to the trashcan #notcomplaining

I hope this vid and all the positive response it got makes phil realize that it's ok to go a bit out of his comfort zone with his fashion choices, specially when it comes to awards and other events

Also, I don't think that dan should make one of these vids, the idea is not as interesting as it was with phil and as others pointed out he already takes risks with fashion... plus I totally love phil but for the life of me I can't picture him choosing any good outfit, maybe a lot of ridic ones yes but he already got dan to dress up in many crazy outfits for AP

I hope he does this again. I don't want Dan to do it though, I feel like it doesn't really make sense? Especially because Dan is a fashionista already and I don't think Phil knows much about fashion, so Dan is kinda better at picking a mix of silly and actually good looking and fanservice-y outfits. I don't think a role reversal would work all that well. I hope he continues to keep Dan as his assistant though (should he make this a series).

Yesterday Louise tweeted that she was going to post her weekly vlog today, since she was busy this weekend, so I’m not counting on the collab today. Sometimes she posts videos in the middle of the week though, so if we don’t get it today, we might not have to wait until next Monday.
