I understand where you see the appeal of 2009 Phil touring but to be fair I don't think he would have it in him. I believe him when he says he was very shy back in the old days and youtube gradually helped with that. I can still sense some subtle hints of insecurities when I watch 2009 Phil.
Anyway, I also like that video. Somehow, despite little to no editing that you mentioned, it feels fast-paced, at least to me. I also couldn't help but laugh at his sudden change of topic (with no jumpcuts) towards the end of the video. One second it's a strange ant man story, the next it's pepper tins. Oh, Phil Makes me think I'd love him to do a full-on stream of consciousness video and no, I don't classify his liveshows as that, he's really guarded in them
Despite being total for fetus Phil I can't help but think it's a little bit sad that in 2016 we are so devoid of any new interesting content that we resorted to discussing his 7 year old videos. Phil please, hurry up with editing the new videos (the plural -s is crucial!), and make it at least 7 while you're at it

First of all, his voice is softer and more northern-sounding so that alone is just I loved it when he said "satanist budgy torturer house."
Now that I see why he was pulling down his pants in context, it actually comes across as more innocent (even though, come on, dude, you're practically showing us *that* area) than I imagined. Actually, in a way, he seems very much the same. Sure, he learned a little something about punctuation and pacing and obviously upped his editing game as he got older but there's still a child-like wonder to 2009 Phil (I've decided that's what I'll call it rather than childishness). It's the way he talks- like an excitable seven year old telling you about his day- and his enormous eyes don't hurt the situation. Though I see that insecurity that was mentioned earlier too...there's this 'like me, please like me' kind of quality to it that he's lost as he's grown more confident.
This video actually seemed to echo his most recent Florida one quite a bit. There's the wtf-is-this-creepy-junk-in-our-house segment (OK, now that's creepy), the anecdotal segment and, of course, the nature appreciation segment. My opinion is, of course, biased since I am Phil whether we're talking 2009 or 2016 but the main difference I see is that in 2009 he talks more like his audience is around the same age as him and in 2016 he comes across as much more conscious of the age gap that exists with a large segment of his fanbase.
*Edit: Actually, another thing that I see is his current storytelling style seems to have been at least partially influenced by Dan's. That's one thing that came across even in their most recent ls. Phil tends to jump around quite a bit while Dan's more methodical about setting the scene and building out detail. Compare how he talks about the ant man in 2009 to his re-telling of the tale of the missing cab in 2016.
Oh. About those ants. I don't know about Florida but I do know that Texas has these little red fire ants that *will* bite your feet! So, beware if you're wearing sandals out there.

I love his current haircut. I think he got rid of his shaved sides after PINOF7 and let them grow out a bit so now it really suits him. I love Phil in all eras but 2009!Phil makes me thirsty while 2016!Phil makes me want to cuddle him I still think his content then would never survive now because it was so weird. Looking at the comments of current fans on those old vids is a journey in itself. Everyone is like "my smol cinnamon roll was so weird and strange )
Does anyone miss this cute shorter hair he had for a while? It was my favorite look (Yes I admit I'm total DITL Phil trash but he was so beautiful ).....

I have been watching the latest live show and the part when he knocks the shake on the ground and comes back into frame saying that is why he is hard to exist with etc really stands out to me. A moment passes and he and Dan look at each other via the screen and he says "hi" and just smiles still looking at Dan. That is by far my favorite part of the ls. I don't know why. I can't put my finger on what it makes me think of. It is like he is saying something to Dan the rest of us aren't privy to. The first time I watched the ls I noticed the whole exist with part but missed the "hi" etc. afterward. It is freaking cute and makes me think of young Phil for some reason. Around 7:30
Makes me think I'd love him to do a full-on stream of consciousness video
