Fun! I wonder what 'soon' means this time.
It really wasn't great. The app is right now not at all capable of handling large audiences. Considering that the same thing happened with Rize, Phil really should've learned from that and probably should've done more to find out whether this app could actually perform in a way it never had before. Being one of the first on a platform and getting a lot of money for it all sounds fun, but I fear that it could hurt his credibility. The Rize disaster was bad but also sorta funny and it was owned by Younow, which wasn't great either but there was a history there. But this looks just kinda... dumb and unprofessional? I'm not feeling it.
On the other hand, I love it when the phandom breaks stuff. It really brings us together. We might not have the relevancy and power that we used to have, but shit like this really keeps our reputation up

So, uh, I was really excited to get home from work and seek out someone's audio recording of the show, but should I just wait for YouTube instead?

Yeah - I would. I technically did record it all but... it's in like seven files with large stretches of random other streamers talking (when Phil's would die) I'd have to edit out.

I came in about 20 mins late and heard most until he glitched again near the end. I hear other streamers were mad that we and Phil crashed the app. Sounds like the usual mess, hence this

This is what i mean... how can he not know the size of his own audience? How can Stereo not know who they're dealing with? They NEED to be prepared for the traffic... it's incredibly unprofessional and careless. Thank god the app is free.
Idk why this particularly bothered me so much. I'm growing so used to other creators handling livestreams for hours on end and with thousands of people at the same time, and those run smoothly, and then we have... this.
Edit: and it's gonna get worse with Seth Everman, oh lord..

I think the youtube version will be pretty fun. There were some stumbling sort of moments (I made a longer post on tumblr about it) but there were also some actual hilarious stories that I think will play even better getting to see their faces.

Oh I only saw ppl saying it was a disaster so I assumed there wasn’t much time for story telling but I’m sure I’ll like it then, I love Phil’s stories! Thanks, now I have something to look forward to again lol

Curious to know what this will look like on youtube. I'm assuming it'll be on his second channel but I do wonder when that's gonna be published.
He said during the broadcast that he’s posting it tomorrow.

I don't know why he just won't do lives on YouTube where his audience is and would actually make being a channel supporter worth while, I wouldn't have a issue with super chats plenty of people with a bigger audience get them so he could make decent money, I'd prefer a pre-recorded podcast to this, I hate the chaos of it and wastes so much of the content time, good luck if Dan is one of the guests because I can't imagine that will go well.

Aside from that, I wonder if Phil had to insist it be a non-exclusive deal? Like yes he'd go live on the Stereo app but he retained permissions to repost it on youtube despite it being sponsored. Or if maybe having an influencer who would introduce a youtube audience to the app was pure benefit for them and they wanted it? Hmmm. Thoughts, thoughts.
i want to know the nuts and bolts of spons like this sooooo bad (younow too, etc.). how much £££ are you getting for this, phil????
i wasn't able to listen live bc i was at work, but i think i'm going to wait for the youtube vid now.

Does anyone have an explanation for Phil's latest instagram stories? I don't know where he is and I am confused and too tired to investigate. What even is that bizarre AC/photo thing?

I think Phil's looking at an LG Art Cool system. With the fancy lights, maybe in some showroom or museum...

Actually, my first take was this is the first glimpse of NEW HOUSE... where else would he be where he has access to the remote control? Hotel?

... Why is Phil posting about AC at 3 in the morning? What is happening, what is this chaos?
Anyway, the liveshow. Look, the idea behind it is good, and I understand that money is money, but I don’t believe for a second that Phil couldn’t find another more efficient platform to do liveshows and streams? I will never stop saying that the best thing he could do right now is a podcast, which is more or less what yesterday’s show attempted to be like. I mean, even Rose and Rosie - who don’t have a huge platform like Phil does - managed to find a deal with Spotify for their podcast, so I think that Phil could easily do that too, if doing live-streaming is something he really wants to do (which.. I am not sure about tbh).
I hope he uses this opportunity to get comfortable with a more casual chitchat with his guests, though. He has a good chemistry with Louise but it was clear that they weren’t in tune in the show. Phil is someone who wants to stick to the topics he prepares in advance, meanwhile Louise doesn’t mind to just be casual and go with the flow. I am still wondering why he chose “dating” as a topic of conversation, knowing that he couldn’t contribute much to the discussion.

My guess is that he chose this topic because the 'Awkward Closeted Stories' videos have gone over pretty well with his audience and it allows him to keep his anecdotes firmly pre-Dan era. I think he thought Louise would be a good guest for this topic and keep it in the high school zone without realising her teenage dating experience was really limited.
I know there were a few stilted moments but I actually liked their conversation for the most part. The parts I managed to tune in for anyway, I did miss the end. I'm not sure I'll listen live to the next one though, I think this series will work better as a youtube video.
I'm more convinced than ever that a Phil podcast would be amazing. I think a pre-recorded chat that he has the option to cut bits out if he needs to would likely be a more chilled out and genuine conversation rather than it being overthought and ultimately ending in him falling right back into the 'Amazing Phil' persona due to the pressure of being live.

I'm glad I didn't bother with any of this live, sounds awkward and frustrating. I'll watch the video when it comes out but I'm not feeling very positive. Just a general podcast-style chat with phriends would be better as others have said, and then would hopefully be more authentic.

So, I don't obviously know the specifics of Phil's deal, but from my knowledge and from different streamers talking about it (whether they stream on twitch or facebook or youtube) the exclusivity deals are usually only restricted to the primary service aka the streaming. So a streamer that signed with Facebook or Twitch cannot stream on another platform unless they're specifically allowed (like for a charity event or something, there has to be a different deal on the side) but they can always repurpose their content to produce a different (aka edited) version to post on youtube, usually the reason being that a live stream and an edited video are two different products. It's why a lot of streamers with exclusive deals (first example that come to mind, DisguisedToast on facebook) can create videos from their livestreams and post them on youtube and monetize them. They can't take the full vod and put it on youtube, but parts of it to create something new? No problem.
And if that's possible with such big players, I doubt Phil's management wouldn't be able to do something similar or even better for Phil. I also really doubt that the main goal of the platform is to keep Phil on it tbh I think they just want the influx of viewers to a) hope some of them stick and b)increase their numbers for the end of the first semester to show potential investors

A proclamation from the king:
Phil wrote:Happy Thursday cacti and also HAPPY DECEMBER

I filmed a new ..transformational video the other day which gave us a glimpse into an alternate reality. All I’m going to say is….

.
Also thanks anyone who came to my live show with Louise last night!! I didn’t think we’d be discussing placentas so early into the show but it was a good bant. It looks like we did break the app a couple of times as so many people tuned in (oops) but apaz they are trying to fix it so it’s hopefully smooth sailing next time!
I was actually wondering if any of you guys managed to grab a high quality screen/audio recording of the show? My technical issues meant I didn’t manage to record it all for the YouTube video version upload - so If any of you guys did record the show, please could you email it over to
[email protected]? I'm not personally checking the mail, but I'll make sure to credit you in the video description if I do use your recording to help me out!
Thanks to everyone who got some of my new winter merch too - I’m excited a lot of us will all be doing my puzzle together over the festive season! (And partaking in the peppermint waters - don’t sit in the hot chocolate and drink your bath though) There's still some in stock over on the combined danandphilshop.com!
I'm back off into my editing cave, I hope your Thursday is filled with delight.

I actually did record all of it but the app broke so many times that it's in multiple pieces and I can't be bothered putting them together right now. I know other people recorded it, so I'm gonna assume one of them was more ambitious with the editing than me.

Video theory: Phil has taken adulting to the next level, complete with beard, forever home, and dog.
But actually I have no idea, how much content could a beard possibly provide? Is it a beard time lapse video? Is he trying on fake beards?

months without uploading she comes back with....idk exhaustion.
random thoughts: I have seen a lot floated around about why Phil might have chosen this particular app considering that he breaks everything, the content issues (whaoooooo) etc. And yes, capital lester etc. etc. But I think it's interesting to entertain a few things. A) it's just for a month which is interesting and b) maybe he likes trying to boost new things c) it's a...way? to begin transitioning into an over 18 space. not like...the stuff we all heard from others. But didn't Louise mention that things could be higher rated stories or something? (I'm so tired I can't remember it all).
I do find it hilarious that he a) punched his router b) had technology issues (RIP those of us wanting to watch today) and c) was playing with AirCon at 3am? IDK i feel like by his tone (like he'd never seen anything like it before) it probably isn't in a forever home, unless it came with it, but maybe a hotel or something?

I agree, I thought it might have been their new home at first, but now I'm moreso thinking that they are staying in a hotel near to their forever home while they work on its renovations. My wife worked in hotels for 10 years and says it's definitely a hotel and a fancy one at that.

I could possibly see them staying in an airbnb but even then I’m not sure because if the pictures from yesterday weren’t delayed he had their lamp and houseplant with him and it wouldn’t make any sense for them to stay somewhere else with their furniture or for them to stay somewhere else if they still have the filming flat. I’m not sure of anything and I know Dan and Phil like to confuse us but maybe they’ll give us another hint soon.

I feel like the video might just be him reacting to beard edits (especially with him describing it as a glimpse into an alternate reality) and then based on how that video goes, he'll come to a conclusion on whether the beard thing is something he wants to try
But if he actually did grow a beard at some point (before he posted the poll on Nov 30) and filmed himself sporting it, that'll be interesting too.

I do admit the picture/AC thing does seem very hotel-y so they could very well be in one. But yeah, I'm not sure why they'd be needing to stay in a hotel/airbnb near their new home when they have a whole ass filming flat--even if it is far away--why would they need to stay near the new place? Also with the pandemic, I wouldn't think they'd want to stay in a hotel or airbnb right now but that's just me

Who knows. Could it be in an office/the IRL office (which would mean the ig story was likely delayed)?
